Correct Ziad. Tehran controls the state.

A local pub owner spent Thursday night in his pub eating steak, watching TV, and listening to the Hezbollah, Amal, and Syrian Social Nationalist Party gunmen fire at opponents in the street. He says, “I was doubly trapped. There was fighting around my pub, and there was fighting in the area around my house. I had no choice.”

Sorry, but thats bullshit. You people made the choice long ago to let these animals roam around armed and free without opposition. Now you whine and complain that you "had no choice". I say again, bullshit. The fact that you claim victim-hood relieves me of any obligation to feel bad for you. You made your bed of dung, now sleep in it.

Freedom and security is a product of a responsible populace, not a government agency.

14 Sharmuta  Fri, May 9, 2008 1:18:29pm
The Lebanese Army and the Internal Security Forces (ISF) did not participate in the fighting. Hezbollah faced little opposition to its takeover of the city. Druze leader Walid Jumblatt publicly declared that he put his faith in the Lebanese government, and would not allow Hezbollah’s militia to force private citizens and political parties, including his well-armed Progressive Socialist Party, into a clash.

This sounds like suicide.

I'm confused. This doesn't sound like a peaceful inner struggle for personal betterment.

21 antishock8  Fri, May 9, 2008 1:22:36pm

There will be very little coverage of this since it's Muslims waging war. We can't keep promulgating the errouneous and racist idea that Muslims are somehow violent. That would be bad.

Any chance we can get some Jews in Lebanon to defend themselves? Then we'll have the AP all over this conflict in typical Pallywood fashion.

Barack Obama sacks adviser over talks with Hamas

One of Barack Obama’s Middle East policy advisers disclosed today that he had held meetings with the militant Palestinian group Hamas - prompting the likely Democratic nominee to sever all links with him.

Robert Malley told The Times he had regularly been in contact with Hamas, which controls Gaza but is listed by the US State Department as a terrorist organisation. Such talks, he stressed, were related to his work for a conflict resolution think tank and had no connection with his position on Mr Obama's Middle East advisory council.

“I’ve never hidden the fact that in my job with the International Crisis Group I meet all kinds of people,” he added.

But Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Mr Obama, responded swiftly, saying: "Rob Malley has, like hundreds of other experts, provided informal advice to the campaign in the past. He has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future."

From this source:

Lebanon's ruling majority condemned Hezbollah for switching from a "fighter against Israel into a fighter against Lebanon."

It was (and still is) totally fine with the "majority" when Hisbollah targeted israeli civilians and bombed their houses....This war was the matter of time. Lebanese were warned long time ago - and now all they do is stupid, toothless condemnations.

Will it wake them up eventually? I hope so, but I doubt.

Well you know part of the problem is George and Condi's very sophisticated approach to conducting international affairs when you have gutter dwellers and thugs on the other side that don't exactly understand all those intelligent machinations, only brute force.

George should get on the horn to his good buddies in Saudi Arabia and tell them to start spending all those big oil dollars they are sucking out of us on training and arming a real Lebanese army that will actually fight to preserve a pro-western government.

Bullet casing line the sidewalks of West Beirut. However, damage to buildings and other infrastructure appears to be minimal. It appears that a good portion of the weapons fired were intended only to intimidate. West Beirut resident Faisal claims, “They hit some things, but I think it was accidental. I had a full view of the snipers and the RPGs on the roofs. They fired a lot, but primarily into the air.”

Strange.

Intimidation and terror. Pages 1 and 2 of the islamists playbook. Chase the Christians out of the country by creating a hell on earth. Then declare another great victory for allah and expansion of the caliphate. Not so strange to me.

US pondering response to Beirut violence
Published: 05.09.08, 23:36 / Israel News
The United States is conferring with the UN Security Council and others in the Middle East about possible measures against those responsible for the recent violence in Beirut, the White House said on Friday.
The White House has accused the Iranian-backed group Hizbullah of inciting the violence in the Lebanese capital and routing forces loyal to the US-backed government. (Reuters)

Lebanon: Battle for Beirut

As Iran uses Hizbollah to anchor her his Western most point of their Shia Crescent on the Med:

Everyone kept insisting it was not a civil war, but jumping for cover as a rocket-propelled grenade slammed into the apartment block beside us, and masked gunmen fired deafening salvos across the road dividing Sunni and Shia neighbourhoods of Beirut....

"It is impossible for Shia to shoot on Sunnis," insisted a military commander of Shia opposition group Amal, allied with Shia militant group Hezbollah....
[...]
But his words were cut short by machine-gun fire from the Sunni neighbourhood across the road in the central Beirut neighbourhood of Mazraa....
[...]

“We will control Beirut militarily”

The Amal{ed: Hezbollah} commander said on the night of 8 May that dialogue between the two sides was now off the table and vowed his fighters would take military control of Sunni areas of Beirut.

"God willing, we will control Beirut militarily and then we can catch all the traitors and then decide on a president and government."

Blaky, blaky time.

73 J'accuzzi  Fri, May 9, 2008 5:42:44pm

This always seems to happen when the west's bribe money is late and Iran's is early. It was better in the old days when drug farming and drug smuggling kept both sides busy most of the time. Suppose the travel and charter outfits are drooling over all the money that will be thrown around again to "save" all those "American" and "Canadian" citizens south of the Litani who will be demanding evacuation again at taxpayers expense.
