NYT Presents Extremist As 'Moderate'

Mon, May 12, 2008 at 9:27:21 am PDT

In their quest to find showcase “moderate Muslims,” the New York Times strikes out again with an article that completely glosses over the radical opinions of their latest poster boy: Jihad Watch: New York Times presents Islamic supremacist as moderate non-zealot.

Well, he's a moderate extremist.

2 bosforus  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:28:59am

How can their be moderates in a religion that teaches extremity?

3 Nevergiveup  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:29:35am

The NYT: Surrendering one issue at a time.

4 Occasional Reader  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:29:49am

Hey, if he doesn't have explosives strapped to his body at this particular moment, he's counted as a "moderate". Get with the program, people.

5 MandyManners  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:30:26am

re: #1 haakondahl

Well, he's a moderate extremist.

Is that like a radical centrist in the non-Muslim world?

6 Alouette  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:31:00am

That video is in-your-face obnoxious.

7 Ben Hur  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:31:22am

Exterminator as moderate.

8 BGOH  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:32:00am

Does lack of an explosive enema make a terrorist a "moderate?" If so, I didn't know that. I just have to wonder why they aren't a little more agreeable without the dynamite hidden in their nether regions....

9 JammieWearingFool  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:32:06am

Alo looks like he's been sucking on a crackpipe for too long.

What did you expect, something on Pat Donnell?

The NYT: Surrendering one issue at a time.

at this rate, I guess they ought to include free Arabic reading / writing lessons for those 12 who want to renew their subscriptions...

12 Alouette  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:33:01am

This guy is a "moderate Muslim" like Amy Winehouse is a "nice Jewish girl."

13 SpringheelJack  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:33:40am

You don't get it. From the NY Times viewpoint, he IS moderate. From past history, the NY Times would classify Stalin and Trotsky as moderates as well, and anybody to the right of Mikhail Gorbachev as being a radical right-wing extremist

You always classify "moderate" as "where I am"

By that measure, to me Rush Limbaugh is a Leftist

14 Kragar (proud to be kafir)  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:34:48am

If this guy is a moderate, I'd hate to see what the NYT thinks is an extremist

15 haakondahl  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:35:20am

Wow. I read the lyrics to the "song".

Actually calls for suicide bombing as a means to bring about a global caliphate.

Thanks, NYT. That little bit of journalism was just too much to ask, huh?

16 shibumi  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:35:34am

Perhaps they have a different definition of "moderate." Perhaps the NYT sees any Muslim who is not wearing a suicide belt that is about to detonate or holding the bloodied severed head of an infidel in his hand, as "moderate."

/I wish I was being sarcastic

17 Roger  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:35:59am

A Muslim apostate turned Christian or Jewish.

19 maddogg  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:38:31am

So, does he advocate moderate suicide bombings?

20 ggt  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:38:40am

Lizards, the laundry is going to be taking all of my attention for a while. Sorry to say, I have to leave.

Charles, on the previous thread @ 439, Ben Hur notes a corrupt Fairfax County cop tipped off his Caliphate friend on a terrorist list. Perhaps noteworthy, as Fairfax County, Northern Virginia is prime WashingtonPost moonbat country.

24 Wino  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:39:26am

Maybe he's only moderately extremist, not extremely extremist. Next up: apathetically extremist.

25 Kosh's Shadow  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:40:11am

Extremist Muslim: One who blows up Jews right now.
Moderate Muslim: One who gives Jews a "peace plan" that makes sure they'll die later.

26 Ben Hur  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:40:48am

Moderate?

That's like Conservative Joo, right?

Or is the "Conservative" kingdome of SA?

I keep forgetting.

27 Cygnus  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:41:00am

That video was giving me vertigo, so I had to stop watching. I think that Cindy Sheehag has a new soulmate here.

28 rawmuse  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:42:14am

According to the NYT, Radical Islam must become mainstream.

29 stevieray  Mon, May 12, 2008 9:42:33am

Crap like this is gonna boomerang on 'em... eventually, the general public will just come to see "moderates" as anti-democratic Caliphate worshipers. The NYT should know by now... playing games with words doesn't change the perception of the person, it changes the perception of the word.

Soldiers of Allah

The last Soldiers of Allah album 1924 was their most successful album.[citation needed] The name of the album refers to the year 1924 when "Islamic state was destroyed" (see Abolishment). The album was recorded before 9/11, but it is supposed that after 9/11 the group became controversial as Islam came further into public awareness in America, see Criticisms.[citation needed]

Soldiers of Allah's views in their raps include unifying the ummah and setting one strong khilafah (Islamic state). In their songs they often refer to glorious men of Islamic history, like Abdülhamid II, Saladin, Khalid bin Walid and Harun al-Rashid. They stand against corrupted Islamic regimes, Muslims weak in their beliefs and kuffar. They claim that Islam is complete, unlike Christianity and Judaism ("we have system, they have only religion").

SOA have been quite popular in the Muslim community in the West,[citation needed] and then gained massive popularity in other parts of the world such as the Middle East, Indonesia and Malaysia.[citation needed] They have gained an extremely wide international audience,[citation needed] past just the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and are believed by many to be the most well-known modern-music Islamic group around, a claim which certainly carries weight.[citation needed]

Due to family reasons, the Soldiers of Allah website has been shut down and the group disbanded, as the members all became married and decided to focus on families.[citation needed] It's hoped that "Soldiers of Allah" will one day regroup and release another album, "SOA 3 - The Return of Islam", and the feature Nasheed will be "By Islam We're Family." The mp3 was released, but the hosting site is now defunct.[citation needed]

It had been announced during mid/late 2005 on the Trust Islam messageboard at [Link: trustislam.com...] (now off-line) , which started out as the homepage of the Soldiers Of Allah group, [Link: www.muslimstudio.com...] , that the SOA is working on releasing a new album called SOA 3: The Return of Islam, but after that no news has been released and it is unknown at what stage the album is.[citation

snip

The Minaret of Freedom Institute has claimed that Soldiers of Allah was a front organization for the ideologist Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir but SOA has claimed they are not affiliated with any group or organization many times.

Soldiers of Allah have also been linked with Baba Ali and the Ummah Films Team (www.ummahfilms.com) even though they continue to deny it, Al-Tassauf reported many underground and hyped links including videos and sound feeds on Youtube.com and CaliphTV.com that showed voice comparison to Baba Ali and SOA songs. Baba Ali still denies affiliation with the group, many argue about the dangers of living in the west post 9/11 and threats members have received

'Mr. Ardekani is among the most visible of a new wave of young American Muslim performers and filmmakers trying to change the public face of their religion.'
// Neil MacFarquhar, The NYT.

'Peace in the Middle East
Never was
And never will be
Until kufur regimes slap their head on the ground bowing down to Allah'
// Ardekani lyrics.

57 (or58) varieties of extremist, 57 (or 58) shades of change.

37 Terp Mole  Mon, May 12, 2008 10:17:44am

The NY Times article writes approvingly of the Islamic da'wa campaign on Youtube, and highlights a video called I Am A Muslim by a young Muslim presenting himself as just an ordinary American.

The article mentions the critical responses it has received, including a video response from a particularly switched-on young man:

"'Muslims need to come to grips with the fact that it is not always the extremism that we object to, it is simply your religion,' the man says, going on to argue that people are troubled by what he calls* Islam’s opposition to homosexuality, free speech and women’s rights. 'Only in Islam can one be labeled not an extremist simply because he has no immediate desire to blow you up.'”

[*Note the Times' writer dodges any acknowledgement of these basic truths]

This got JihadWatch readers googling, and they found the video response that the article refers to. It has received more than 133,000 hits, and is well worth watching: at least one young American gets it.

Perhaps they laid off too many reporters, given their poor earnings and reduced readership. Alternatively maybe some Saudi Prince is now Sulzberger's secret Santa, so to speak.

Think of it, The New Jihad Times. Sounds catchy.

the nyt is afraid to profile people like hirsi ali and irshad manji. they prefer to profile pigs.

46 Is it me?  Mon, May 12, 2008 1:26:50pm

I just read the Jihad Watch piece and read the *lyrics* to the soldiers of allah song.
Oh My God!
This is supposed to be a moderate?

I also watched the CapnOawesome video, it was most interesting, thanks Terp. He does get it.

I am now heartily sick of all this Islamophobia nonsense. It'a merely a concerted effort at censorship. More importantly to censor criticism of islam by those who support the terrorists - who specifically name themselves as warriors of islam and carry out brutal acts in its name.
It's time for us to try to put a stop to the hate speech that is coming in our direction. I don't just mean Christianity, but Judaism, Bhuddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism and also those who have no religious affiliations.
Islamists separate the muslim world (Dar-al-Islam) from everyone else (Dar-al-Kufr). This is their definition not ours. We need to find a word to throw back at them every time they try to make us submit to their warped view of the world and their supremicist inclinations to put us in our place. I would suggest Kafirophobia or Infidelophobia as it would be something they would understand even tho I find both terms very offensive.
Perhaps others have suggestions?
We could have a whole list and perhaps vote on it?

The guy who makes those films is one ugly dude too. Offensively ugly.
