WaPo: Indiana is Lousy with Racism

Tue, May 13, 2008 at 10:38:44 am PDT

According to the Washington Post, Indiana is full of racists and bigots: Racist Incidents Give Some Obama Campaigners Pause.

Here’s one incident they cite to support their case:

The bigotry has gone beyond words. In Vincennes, the Obama campaign office was vandalized at 2 a.m. on the eve of the primary, according to police. A large plate-glass window was smashed, an American flag stolen. Other windows were spray-painted with references to Obama’s controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and other political messages: “Hamas votes BHO” and “We don’t cling to guns or religion. Goddamn Wright.”

Vandalism stinks, and whoever did this is a complete moron and a criminal. But the incident shows someone who’s upset by the racism of Reverend Jeremiah Wright. There are no racist words or slurs used. Why would the Washington Post call this “bigotry,” when there’s no evidence of it?

This is where the election is headed, with help from the mainstream media: any and all criticism or opposition to Barack Obama will be labeled “racism.”

The charge of "racism" is a heavy bludgeon and the Post does not wield it wisely.

Aside from the vandalism, I actually sort of like this person's style.

"Hamas votes BHO" and “We don’t cling to guns or religion. Goddamn Wright" are both pretty concise.

This piece indicates the real reason why leftists can't let go of an utterly inexperienced presidential candidate who has zero legislative accomplishments.

Leftists would rather be burned alive at the stake than to suffer the horror of even the remotest supposition that someone considers them racists. And right now, to Democrats, to say anything negative about their Golden Child is entirely equivalent to racism.

Vincennes, Indiana

History
The oldest town in Indiana, Vincennes was originally established in 1732 as a French fur trading post. It was built by François-Marie Bissot, Sieur de Vincennes, and renamed Poste Vincennes in his honor after he was captured and burned at the stake during a war with the Chickasaw nation.

I don't doubt that some of these quotes are true. (not the actual incident, which I agree shows no racism unless it is in graffiti left unquoted) This is the first I've heard of anyone actually saying they wouldn't vote for Obama based on race. I've heard tons of people speculate that other Americans wouldn't, usually voiced by concerns if America "was ready."

I will continue to weigh these accounts against the 10,000 incidents of people saying they are voting for Obama *because* of his race.

Racism, evil in all forms, is still helping Obama orders of magnitude more than it is hurting him.

For all the hope and excitement Obama's candidacy is generating, some of his field workers, phone-bank volunteers and campaign surrogates are encountering a raw racism and hostility that have gone largely unnoticed -- and unreported -- this election season.

"Unreported"? Whose fault is that?

I can't imagine the press ignoring it- this article is proof of that. Is it the obama people not reporting it? And if so, why report it now- after the Indiana primary? I smell calculation.

As to the political parties of those few racists they found,

she was pressed by a Clinton volunteer to explain her backing of Obama. "I trust him," Seifert replied. According to Seifert, the woman pointed to Obama's face on Seifert's T-shirt and said: "He's a half-breed and he's a Muslim. How can you trust that?"

But no fear, if people say that race is not a factor, the writer knows that they really are.

Pollsters have found it difficult to accurately measure racial attitudes, as some voters are unwilling to acknowledge the role that race plays in their thinking.

This is where the election is headed, with help from the mainstream media: any and all criticism or opposition to Barack Obama will be labeled “racism.”

That strategy is fine, as it guarantees his defeat.

Quite probably true, but the pc-multi-culti Media shills don't see it that way. They assume that everyone thinks like they do, that the mere accusation of "racism" is the worst possible thing that could happen to anyone. Ever. Therefore...

Racist Incidents Give Some Obama Campaigners Pause

I think you're (Charles) putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable* here - Obama's campaign obviously has had an epiphone here, brought about by the vandalism: they've finally realized that the campaign has itself been racist.

Anti-American, Anti-establishment, Anti-capitalism, also come to mind, but maybe they can only focus on these things one at a time.

Oh, I'm cramping up at that thought - sometimes I just think crazy things.

The cries of racism are even more ironic given that Obama is only 6.25% African-American.

The "legal" definition of minority status is 13% (1/8th). His dad was 13% (1/8) African. But the rest of Dad's family were (wait for it)... Arabs with a history of slave trading!

That's right! Barack Hussein Obama is an Arab-American!

134 RememberSekhmet?  Tue, May 13, 2008 11:13:56am

I think Zombie's right. We're going to hear all election season how every criticism of Obama is panned over and given some kind of racist context it was never intended to have. But all those critics can't follow voters into the voting booth and monitor which ballot they marked. I think we may see a very big Bradley effect in 2008, and maybe the Dems will get a clue as to why it happens.

Remember, the general election is not a caucus. I don't have numbers, but I doubt sincerely that Republican female and minority candidates suffer from a Bradley Effect. Republicans pick the best guy (or gal) and try to vet them as best they can before running them, applying the same standards to candidates of all colors, creeds, and plumbing. Democrats have a very bad habit of picking any fool with the right plumbing or skin color to run for office, then once they see the flaws in the candidate, spending the rest of the campaign trying to shut down criticism of their candidates by linking it to some form of bias. This is what causes the Bradley Effect.

Just got back from West Virginia, driving around the state a bit w/ a friend.
There were hundreds of little campaign signs....hundreds. All for local offices.
As for the primary contest, I saw two little Hillary signs, one on Robert Byrd Avenue (just off the Robert Byrd Parkway) and another on Robert Byrd Road (off the Robert Byrd Expressway near the Robert Byrd Interchange.) Moving up on the Robert Byrd Highway, just across the Robert Byrd Bridge (the one right before the Robert Byrd Underpass,) I saw a droopy little Obama sign on a lawn next to the Robert Byrd Recreation Center. My friend thought she saw another Hillary sign between the Robert Byrd Fire Hydrant and Robert Byrd Flagpole on Robert Byrd Drive (the one after the Robert Byrd Overpass,) but it turned out it was a Bailey-for-Sheriff one.
Our official, indepth survey (!) indicates Hillary will beat Obama 2 to 1 in the primary today.
If we're anywhere close, it should provide delicious fodder for the Everyone-Voting-Against-Obama-Is-A-Redneck-Racist spiel. Ugh. The bigotry of the WaPo left vs. blue collar whites just won't stop.

182 looking closely  Tue, May 13, 2008 11:25:56am

I don't doubt at all that there are people who hate Obama because of his race (or half-race), and won't vote for him for that reason, but objectively, there are far MORE people who are likely voting for him BECAUSE of his race.

In other words, to the extent that race has been a factor in the campaign to date, its been almost entirely to Obama's benefit.

Again, if Obama were (all) white, Hilary Clinton would have had the nomination sewed up about 3 months ago.

Which is ironic, in a way, given Obama's 20+ year association with a pretty bad BLACK racist, Jeremiah Wright.

re: #24 Edouard

This piece indicates the real reason why leftists can't let go of an utterly inexperienced presidential candidate who has zero legislative accomplishments.

Leftists would rather be burned alive at the stake than to suffer the horror of even the remotest supposition that someone considers them racists. And right now, to Democrats, to say anything negative about their Golden Child is entirely equivalent to racism.

The irony is that leftists are HUGELY racist. They are just in such deep denial that it's amazing. With them, almost everything is about identity politics and race. They want to pigeonhole everyone and, hopefully, come November, this will come back to bite them.

186 gman  Tue, May 13, 2008 11:26:25am

I've noticed the Kidz are labeling any state "racist" with a majority of votes for Hillary. Get ready for more of this same thinking all the way to November.

It's that damn confounded BOolean logic:

"where elements (or "bits") each contain only two possible values, called various names, such as "true" and "false", "yes" and "no", "on" and "off", or "1" and "0"."

re: #182 looking closely

I don't doubt at all that there are people who hate Obama because of his race (or half-race), and won't vote for him for that reason, but objectively, there are far MORE people who are likely voting for him BECAUSE of his race.

In other words, to the extent that race has been a factor in the campaign to date, its been almost entirely to Obama's benefit.

Again, if Obama were (all) white, Hilary Clinton would have had the nomination sewed up about 3 months ago.

Which is ironic, in a way, given Obama's 20+ year association with a pretty bad BLACK racist, Jeremiah Wright.

I hear a black racist could be a mythological creature...its never been reported by the media...strange. I bet Bigfoot is pissed.

216 greenbear  Tue, May 13, 2008 11:38:15am

I live in Indiana and we are tolerant to a fault sometimes.

During the Iran Hostage crisis, there was a big concern over the HUGE Islamic center of North America that opened a few years earlier; that they would become targets because they were muslim. Not a single incident. In fact, they said they felt extremely safe in our state.

Sure we've had our growing pains. The Klan was big here in the 20's but we tossed their butts out after the Grand Dragon thought he could get away with murder. Now, we tend to dislike people for the character and not the color of their skin. It is likely these vandals just don't like BHO's politics, plain and simple. Hell, they were probably Hilary supporters who popped over the border from Illinois. They definitely hate BHO more than any Republican I know. The dem convention is going to be a bloodbath because there are such fantics on both sides.

I don't anybody that is passionate about John McCain to be motivated to do anything like this. Some of those little old ladies for Hilary are plenty motivated.

Actually, BHO almost has that Bill Clinton quality. Bill was a bastard but he was always likable. But he made it look easy and BHO fell into the trap. BHO just hasn't been in politics long enough to pull it off. Just look at all the crap Bill got away with by just giving a little wink. BHO can't carry it off because he tried too early in his career and most of his skeletons are still alive to cause trouble. We're already starting to pull back the mask to reveal the alien lizard inside.

WaPo doesn't have a clue about Indiana. They don't have a clue about anything.

I have no problem with a person of mixed heritage feeling more black than white. To each there own experience.

The problem is that, just like Rev. Wright, Obama simultaneously preaches against the racism in America while condoning or spreading his own kind of racism. Because Wright doesn't look all that "black", he postures and rants about being blacker than thou. It springs from a self-loathing, the internal conflict he just can't resolve, so he projects it outward at the "other". It's psychologically stunted & a form of moral narcissism. It is truly sickening.

223 Canadhimmis  Tue, May 13, 2008 11:40:45am

This is where the election is headed, with help from the mainstream media: any and all criticism or opposition to Barack Obama will be labeled “racism.”

Barack Obama is the candidate of media manufacture. If they get their way with wishes of an Obama presidency, the self-perception of the kingmaker media will rise again in newfound confidence. Media will then aim to destroy people like Charles Johnson and other folks that stood in their way. The media hasn't forgotten his place in the destruction of media icon Dan Rather and are currently noticing his staunch opposition to their golden guy, Barack Obama.

I don't think it's as high as 90%. I recall high 30's. I do think folks vote tribal. Both whites and blacks, hence the 92% black vote for Obama. For this reason, when the majority of American's (88% not black) learn or are reminded of Obama's racists affiliations, he will lose by a landslide in November. You have to thank BHO.

Without him inadvertently exposing them, these black churches would have gone on forever brainwashing their flocks.

That would have led nowhere good.

As far as BHO's presidential aspirations, however, I fear it will result in incredible racial and political polarizations.

He will likely lose, if for no reason than most American's won't want to have a 4-8 year conversation about race where one said claims the US invented AIDS to kill them.

In the privacy of the ballot box, Americans will not vote for a man like that simply to avoid being called 'racist'.

It's a losing proposition for BHO's campaign, and his loss will embitter a lot of people. And they won;t be the Pennsylvanians clinging to guns and relicgion - it'll be the ones clinging to the religion of Obama.

re: #264 Maine's Michael

85% agreement from me. My argument lies with your 1st paragraph, as I do not believe most black churches preach the hate and racism of Trinity.

Because any act which in any way disapproves of the Obamessiah is bigotry, by definition.

re: #246 incanus

Uh, you read that and get that THIS THREAD is disingenuous? How does that work?

It was merely an observation. I was agreeing w/ Silhoutte that there were a number of incidents reported in the article that, to me, seemed to be genuine racism. However, if one only read the blurb at the top of the thread, and not the whole article, they would (correctly) get the idea that WaPo is crying racism over absolutely nothing. Many of the comments here were directed only at the quoted language above, not referencing the other incidents in the article.

The WaPo sucks anyway, so I am perfectly comfortable with derision expressed here.

I'm sure there are people not voting for Clinton because of her gender, just as I'm sure there are people not voting for McCain because of his age/gender/race.

Let's be clear here.

If NOT voting for Obama for racial reasons is WRONG, then isn't voting for him SPECIFICALLY for racial reasons ALSO wrong?

Personally speaking, I have several serious issues with Obama's candidacy apart from his race:

1. He has virtually no political experience on a national level. He's been elected to one term as a US Senator and spent most of it running for President. (Alone begging the question of how serious he was as a Senator). He literally has no political executive experience in his life, nor any significant management experience.

2. For a "uniter" the political record he ACTUALLY has amassed is literally the most liberal in the US Senate. For someone who postures as a "centrist" he is the most leftwing seated US Senator, with NOBODY to his left!

3. His foreign policy is abysmally bad. Obama has said he would never use American nukes under any circumstances. . .then retracted it. Said he wanted to bomb Pakistan. . .then retracted it. Said he would sit unconditionally in personal negotiations with Iran and other American enemies. . .then retracted that. Now fired MORE THAN ONE putative foreign advisor. Said he was going to pull all the troops out of Iraq. . .then retracted THAT. Pissed off the Canadians (and completely undermined US trustworthiness) by threatening to renegotiate NAFTA. . .then *allegedly* retracted that. . .only privately!

4. He's promising explicitly to raise taxes (in what would be the single largest tax increase in American history), something *guaranteed* to shrink the economy.

4. His personal associations STINK. He's been associated for 20+ years with a lunatic racist preacher, whom he's described as his "spiritual mentor". His political career was launched by a left-wing unapologetic terrorist. He's got the stink of corrupt Chicago area politics about him (eg Tony Reszko).

And none of this goes to race.

Imagine, just for the sake of speculation, what would happen to all the members of the media, Dim Party, etc., who threw her overboard if she became president. If I was one of them, I would go into the Witness Protection Program.

The Africa Song (take two)

Haunch of eland roasted over an elephant-dung fire
Tse-tse flies nipping at your nose
Marxist rants, being preached to a choir
and folks dressed up like Bankongos

Everybody knows
Some oxblood in a calabash
Help to make the season bright

Tiny tots, with their villages all aglow
will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know Interahamwe's on its way
They've loaded up their Kalashnikovs,
they're gonna slay
Every mother's child, from the other tribe
While the UN stands idly by

And so I'm offering this simple plan
to kids, whose life expectancy's thirty-two
Marxist paradise has been tried,
many times, many ways
But western capitalism's.... for you

380 Silhouette  Tue, May 13, 2008 1:26:17pm

re: #365 zonekeeper

No black person would be allowed to rise to that level if they came from the conservative side of the spectrum.

Are you saying conservatives wouldn't allow it, or liberals wouldn't allow a black conservative to rise that far?

Either way, I disagree, but one way more strenuously. There are high ranking people in both parties of many shades and backgrounds. Liberals "allowed" two black GOP SecStates, a black GOP SCOTUS, and yes, black candidates for the GOP nomination for President. Alan Keyes comes to mind. No, he didn't get the nomination, but I thought it was because his message didn't get out/resonate with the GOP masses as much as Dubya's, not from any anti-GOP-black agenda by the left.

O.K...."That's Racist".......beside that, I don't agree with any of it.

Republicans/conservatives have put more minorities in positions of power in the government than any liberals have. Liberals talk a good line, but when it's time to deliver......show me the minorities.

We have a number of centrist to conservative blacks who would be well accepted by most of the country......none, however, are running for president.

386 offendi  Tue, May 13, 2008 1:29:00pm

I will sell you a bridge if you don't believe the MSM decided awhile back to go in the tank for Barry the Messiah.

Media coverage of Clinton, demands she withdraw, as well as the way Barry's " see-no-evil, speak-no-evil, hear-no-evil- of Barry" demands on how the Presidential election should be conducted follows the Messiah's campaign's script. The mass media are in sum, willing dupes and enablers of a candidate whose character, credentials, and value to the nation needs to be questioned, which they won't.

For Barry to say his associations are not in issue and " racism" is the basis for any such questioning, is the height of hypocrisy. Whatever he may say about the Clintons he willingly used the racial huckster Wright and his church to advance his political career and "prove" his African ethnocentricity. This goes to his character and his morality.

McCain in my opinion is pretty much out of it with his desire to run a genteel campaign. The only saving grace republicans have are the 527s and talk radio, which saved their butts the last time.

387 Ringo the Gringo  Tue, May 13, 2008 1:29:32pm

401 J.S.  Tue, May 13, 2008 1:43:33pm

I don't particularly care for Obama's policies nor the people with whom he associates. The only time that the "race" issue is brought up (and the only time I am made to consider it) is thanks to Obama and his followers -- Obama plays the race card -- along with his sycophantic, clueless hate-filled followers (such as Rev Wright, etc.). Wright endorsing Farrakhan (Nation of Islam) puts the issue of black supremacy front and center -- and you can't blame this on "white, working-class voters" -- Obama did this himself... Obama was the one who associated with a racist "rev" for 20 odd years -- and apparently had "no problem" listening to hate-filled invectives denouncing the United States of America (whether it was blaming America for 9/11 or spreading AIDs, etc) -- not "white voters." So if Obama suffers (loses votes) as a consequence, Obama has only himself to blame.

I doubt most of Obama's supporters or detractors have read his manifesto. It is pure socialism. Plenty of handouts(as if blacks need yet more welfare dripfeeding), anti-"discrimination" and "hate crimes" legislation(as if anyone needs more of that), and no clue as to where the money would come from to fuel this vast exercise in political correctness.

Ah, of course - wealth redistribution! Like the good communist he is, Obama will rob the workers to give to the lazy.

This whole issue totally reminds me of the big fight between the two protagonists in The Crimson Kimono. The Japanese American guy (James Shigeta) admits he is angry at the white guy (Glenn Corbett) because he thinks the white guy is disgusted that the Japanese American guy got the girl. The white guy yells "you lunkhead - that was good, clean honest hate!" E.g., he was jealous, because HE wanted the girl.

The Japanese American guy finally realizes - and this is the theme of the movie - he only saw what he WANTED to see.

Its not what is between the legs or on top of the dermis that matters. As the story that followed this one shows that many women are brave and intelligent. The same goes for many blacks, mixes, orientals, europeans and all the rest. It is entirely what lies between the ears that matters. Sadly while Mr. Obama did graduate from a hick school on the western end of the Charles river in Cambridge, he is sorely lacking in the qualities to become president. He is profoundly naive, his statements do not square with the records of his past, and many other facts like voting present on tough bills disqualifies him for more than either a dog catcher or lawyer. I know many intelligent brave and moral people of all races and sexes. Sadly he is not one of them.

We must teach these typical white people their job is to work till they drop, give all their hard earned money to lazy motherfuckers, most of them typical black people, or typical mexicans, or typical Liberals and then to SHUT THE FUCK UP. BTW...BOTH of Powell's parents are immigrants from Jamaica...they are both "black."

Only one of Obama's parents are "black." The other is "white."

Powell is more black than Obama...but that is negated due to Powell being on the republican side of the fence.
