IPT: The Latest 'Interfaith' Leader with Terror Ties

Tue, May 13, 2008 at 3:28:09 pm PDT

The Investigative Project exposes yet another ‘Interfaith’ leader with terror ties.

In anticipation of the deportation proceedings of Imam Mohammad Qatanani of the Islamic Center of Passaic in New Jersey, New York Times trumpeted “Revered New Jersey Imam, Facing Deportation, Has Interfaith Support.” And indeed, the Imam has had various “interfaith” leaders testify on his behalf, as reported by Newsday:

Several Catholic priests and a Jewish rabbi became emotional on the stand when describing how much Qatanani had done for interfaith understanding.
Qatanani is accused of having lied on his immigration documents both about his arrest and conviction in Israel (which he now claims was merely a “detention”) and his confession that he was a member of Hamas (which he now claims was procured under torture). Qatanani also claims he only recently became aware of his conviction by Israeli authorities. But Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Heather Philpott has testified:
... during the 2005 meeting Qatanani admitted he had been arrested and convicted by Israeli authorities, and that he had been advised by an attorney at the time to plead guilty to being a member of Hamas and sign an affidavit to that effect.
News reports have alternately described Qatanani as “revered” (see New York Times above), “influential,” and “respected.” Likewise, all media reports have outlined both the charges against Qatanani and his excuses, bolstered by a coterie of quotes from supporters about how revered, influential and respected Qatanani is.

What those stories do not detail is Qatanani’s history of attending radical conferences in the United States, nor his frequent use of incendiary rhetoric in speeches and sermons.

Funny how "interfaith" always seems to lead to "Death to America"

Shit, is every interfaith Muslim leader a raving psychopath?

It would seem so, or nearly so.

I be all tired of hearing about "religious leaders" who are "influential" with would-be murderers, "revered" by enemy agents, and "influential" among sleeper cells.

Well...we have a pattern here from MSM:

An extremist muslim is called an interfaith leader, "revered" , "influential" and "respected"...

However, when you deal with a Christian pastor like John Hagee, who has worked with different faiths behind scene including helping supporing a local Catholic convent, and even gave money with no strings attached to Jewish orphanages in Israel, he is considerd an extremist, anti Catholic, a bigot...and even antisemitic !

Hmmm...

See a pattern here?

Steven Emerson--- may this voice in the wilderness be heard far and wide. He does such great work. Thanks, Charles for bringing his work to light.

I agree wholeheartedly, and therefore am reluctant to air my minor complaint, but here goes: The width of the column at IPT makes it very difficult to read. Even if it did fit on my screen, it's still hard to read such a wide column. The excerpt above is much easier. I pasted the previous article from IPT that Charles linked to into Word so I could read it. Mr. Emerson may not know how to fix it, but I bet he knows who can.

Yes indeed, for the Christian 'leaders' who are falling over themselves to dialogue with these guy's, I'd just point them to 2 Cr 6:14 and tell them 'nuff said...

LOL! Well bless his heart. What he lacks in web design savvy, he more than makes up for in keeping abreast of the enemy. Kinda like Robert Spencer... Here at LGF, we get kinda spoiled having a host who REALLY knows web design and creates such a good user interface.

I feel so sorry for him. He is just an inspirational prevaricator, a community leader in lying, and inspirational orator of hate and discontent....

Bleh. I'm over it now. Deport him to Gitmo.

re: #7 ec marm

I agree but here's the problem - I believe some of his children were born in the USA. So I think its fair to say no Immigration Judge will toss the whole family out. I don't know enough about Immigration law. But I fear that when the lefty media carts his kids if front of the cameras & Yasser Amanpour of CNN does the interviews nothing will come of this.

The City of Paterson is a threat to national security. That Islamic Mosque on Broadway is huge & was intentionally built across the street from a huge synagouge & a Jewish hospital. Both are now gone.

am simply ashamed (again) to be Catholic. Spare me the pieties. The videos wherein this imam recites his libelous statements about Jews was already out by the time these clergy testified. There needs to be a reckoning about what a church lets its ministry do in public and apparently on its behalf.

Jewish lizards probably feel the same about the lone rabbi. But in my camp I have "several" Catholic priests to be mad at. This stinks. STINKS.

29 Jed  5/14/08 6:30:15 am reply quote

For any rabbi to support him is outrageous. Some rabbis are sick in the head. What is it that makes some Jews the worst haters of Jews? I can't figure it out.

Kick his ass out.
