-RetweetRev. Wright Magazine Featured Obama on Cover with Farrakhan

Tue, May 13, 2008 at 4:41:39 pm PDT

To this day, Barack Obama continues to insist he was shocked and surprised to discover that Reverend Jeremiah Wright had bizarre racist views.

Now Tom Blumer has discovered images of Wright’s radical newsmagazine Trumpet—and look who was featured on the cover of that magazine at least three times: BizzyBlog - Attention Stanley Kurtz, Re Obama, Wright, Trumpet: I’ve Got You Covered.

Here’s one of the images, featuring pictures of Barack Obama, Rev. Wright — and Louis Farrakhan. Isn’t that cozy?

And if you think Barack Obama didn’t know he was featured on this cover, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.

For more about the deranged, hateful content of Trumpet, see: Jeremiah Wright’s ‘Trumpet’.

UPDATE at 5/13/08 5:42:49 pm:

LGF readers have identified several of the other people on this cover:

Adam Clayton Powell — 1st row, 1st from left
Dick Gregory — 1st row, 2nd from left
Shirley Chisholm — 1st row, 4th from left
O. J. Simpson attorney Johnny Cochran — 1st row, 5th from left
Rosa Parks — 1st row, 6th from left
Rapper “Common” — 2nd row, 1st from left
Is that Robert Mugabe? 2nd row, 2nd from left
Luther Vandross — 4th row, 1st from left
Ozzie Davis — 4th row, 2nd from left
Lou Rawls — 4th row, 3rd from left
Nation of Islam founder Elijah Muhammad — 4th row, 5th from left

Notice who’s missing? Martin Luther King, Jr.

More Outrageous Talk from a Minister at Barack Obama's Church, and it's Not Reverend Wright

The Reverend Jeremiah Wright may have stepped down as pastor, but the Trinity United Church of Christ may continue to haunt Barack Obama.

Newsmax reports the new Senior Pastor, Otis Moss, has called biblical patriarch Abraham a pimp, said Noah and Moses were thugs and said Jesus had a "soft spot for thugs." Moss has also praised late rapper Tupac Shakur as a prophet despite his profanity-laced lyrics that glorify violence and a criminal record including assault and sexual abuse.

Cybercast News reports another pastor as the church, reverend Reginald Williams, has written in the church bulletin that the Pentagon trains Latin Americans to become terrorists and the major TV networks are run by right wing racists who see blacks as subhuman.

The Obama campaign has not yet responded to our request for a comment.

I think this demonstrates that the Trinity UCC is Christian in NAME ONLY...

48 pat  Tue, May 13, 2008 4:56:07pm

Rabbi Akiba ben Joseph (approx. 15-135 C.E.)

A poor, semi-literate shepherd, Rabbi Akiba became one of Judaism's greatest scholars. He developed the exegetical method of the Mishnah, linking each traditional practice to a basis in the biblical text, and systematized the material that later became the Mishnah.

Rabbi Akiba was active in the Bar Kokhba rebellion against Rome. He believed that Bar Kokhba was the Moshiach (messiah), though some other rabbis openly ridiculed him for that belief (the Talmud records another rabbi as saying, "Akiba, grass will grow in your cheeks and still the son of David will not have come.") When the Bar Kokhba rebellion failed, Rabbi Akiba was taken by the Roman authorities and tortured to death.
Many Jewish schools and academies named after him, as well as an area of study

Obama's denials that he knew anything about the racial and political tilt of Trinity are refuted by the affirmation that all members recite when a new member first comes to the church. They are refuted by the material that appeared in the Wright magazine. They are refuted by tapes of sermons that have been obtained. They are refuted by the words of Wright himself. Theyare refuted by the reputation that Trinity had acquired by the time Obama joined it.

It is very important to understand that Obama is and has been lying throughout his changing stories of his relationship with Rev. Wright, about what he knew and when, because that goes to the heart of the question about Obama's character, and integrity, and basic honesty.

The fact that Obama brought his children to Wright's church, to be indoctrinated in the hatred that Wright spewed, makes me wonder about Obama's basic judgment. Why did he subject his children to such racist and anti-American ravings if he strongly disagreed with them? And if he did not really strongly disagree with those ravings, then that tells us a great deal about Obama's core beliefs.

It is also disturbing that the Obama campaign and the Obamites are trying to delegitimize any investigation or any study or any discussion or consideration of these telling associations that Obama had: with Wright, with the unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, with the fixer Tony Rezko. As Juan Williams pointed out, if you want to inquire about these things that Obama would rather hide, then you are a "racist pig" (Juan Williams said sarcastically).

You take me for a fool if you do.

Of course he does. He takes all of us for fools. His campaign has made no bones about that, and I'm not holding my breath for him to.

What is truly stunning to me (and not necessarily just about Obama), is how the mainstream media deals with candidates that fit their world view. Obama - on Jeremiah Wright alone - has gone through so many iterations of the nature of his relationships that it is mind boggling. Yet, instead of the MSM collectively saying: "wait, what the hell did he just say?" they sit around and have pundits on who dole out advice as to what he should say next to make things go away (or "down the memory hole, if you prefer).

How anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, can not see this plain as though it were punching them in the face is completely beyond me. And the KosKids think the media has a conservative bias. HAHAHAHA!

Somewhere on FrontPageMag there is an account of how the scales fell from his eyes when he finally realized the Black Panthers were not Noble Revolutionaries, but murderous gangster thugs.

The scales fell off when the Panthers murdered their bookkeeper, Betty Van Patter, who was Horowitz's friend. He discusses this extensively in his autobiography, Radical Son.

In Chicago, the outstanding leader of the Panthers local, Fred Hampton, leads five different breakfast programs on the West Side, helps create a free medical center, and initiates a door to door program of health services which test for sickle cell anemia, and encourage blood drives for the Cook County Hospital. The Chicago party also begins reaching out to local gangs to clean up their acts, get them away from crime and bring them into the class war. The Parties efforts meet wide success, and Hampton's audiences and organised contingent grow by the day. On December 4th, at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, thanks to information from an FBI informant , Chicago police raid the Panthers' Chicago apartment, murdering Fred Hampton while he sleeps in bed. He is shot twice in the head, once in the arm and shoulder; while three other people sleeping in the same bed escape unharmed. Mark Clark, sleeping in the living room chair, is also murdered while asleep. Hampton's wife, carrying child for 8 months, is also shot, but survives. Four panthers sleeping in the apartment are wounded, while one other escapes injury . Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he was executed, Mark was 17 years old. According to the findings of the federal grand jury, Ninety bullets were fired inside the apartment. 1 came from a Panther — Mark — who slept with a shotgun in his hand. All surviving Panther members were arrested for "attempted murder of the police and aggravated assault".

Has there ever, in the history of American politics - and I mean ALL of it - been a candidate for president, in any party, with so much dirt in his background? I can't think of anyone who even comes close. If anyone here can, please submit it. If not, this may be a very comforting thought to hold in our heads as we move through the general election.

OT:

Burma update, by e-mail, from some missionaries inside the country:

We received some VERY good news today. The three missionaries...that hadn't been heard from - contacted our people in Yangon and they are all alive! I was so thankful when I read the e-mail today that I cried. We really weren't optimistic since they were from that Irrawaddy Division - the area where there was such total devastation. Their homes and the church building we built down there are completely gone. So two of our leaders got on the bus and went down there with some food and other help for them. Today [it was] reported on the news that the authorities in Burma are not letting any foreigners in that area - not even doctors or relief workers of any kind. There is also a report that the high nutrition biscuits and other food that have been sent from the UN were confiscated by the military and they are instead giving the people spoiled, black moldy, salt water soaked rice and some cheap cookies that have been made in the country that are of no real nutritional value. We are not shocked by any of this - it is par for the course for what we have seen in the past.

[A]t one of the Bible schools that we work with over there...three of their four buildings were completely destroyed. The one cement building is still standing... They were supposed to start their school year again (it is now their summer vacation, thankfully) on June 1 but...this will be impossible. And most of their school library has been destroyed because the books were either soaked or blown away. They said that carpenters (when you can actually find one available) are charging two times the normal rate for wages and building materials have also sky rocketed...things are pretty desperate...

When Hillary wins a state, it's a symbolic victory.

Not only a victory, but a landslide victory!

But the Obamites and their friends in the media and others call it symbolic because the fix is already in : the superdelegates are going to vote for Obama even though Hillary will likely win the popular vote of the Dem primaries, when all the voting is done.

They have received over six hundred thousand dollars from Obama -- actually more than 3.5 times what they received from Hillary -- and they expect to get a lot more by backing Obama. So the fix is in, and the superdelegates are going to vote for Obama, and give him the Dem nomination. No matter if Hillary wins the popular vote. The fix is in.

I don't think there's a lot of loyalty that far down. The people voted in Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and would support her re-instatement. I think if they had a hope supported by the US the people of Burma could handle things if the thugs got what's coming to them.

I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but what really irritates me is the simple fact that Rev. Wright has a magazine.

I don't know how any of you aren't getting red in the fact over just that. I've got talented, thoughtful friends galore who can write, introduce people to the best of the past and the best of present arts and commentary, and none of us would be published if it weren't for blogs, i.e. free self-publishing.

But if we had a gospel of hate, hahahahaha we'd be celebrities and treated well-enough by most in America to be considered influential. People would read us and even pay us money to hear our views.

Wright is the foremost acolyte of James Cone's "black liberation theology," which puts politics at the center of religion. Wright himself is explicit:

[T]here was no separation Biblically and historically and there is no separation contemporaneously between 'religion and politics.' . . . The Word of God has everything to do with racism, sexism, militarism, social justice and the world in which we live daily.

No separation between religion and politics. I've heard of that concept. If he were he around today, Jefferson would have some things to say about it.

re: #243 abolitionist

Sean Hannity tried to interview Wright about a year ago. Wright kept interrupting, asking how many of Cone's book had Hannity read, implying that Cone is the authority on Black Liberation Theology. Here is Cone on BLT:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ...

Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Well well well. Nice photo montage. Which one of the following isn't like the rest...

Obama's out of place - doesn't have the achievements of any of those other folks on the cover, including Farrahkhan (hey, who said an achievement had to be a good thing).

Seriously though, it does provide some insight into who Wright's organization venerates and chooses to honor.

Still, for anyone to believe that Obama didn't know who Wright associates with after being on a cover with Farrahkhan has to be under a rock somewhere. If Obama had a problem, he would have confronted Wright over being found on the cover along with Farrahkhan.

That hasn't happened as far as we know - and I put the odds of such a confrontation pretty slim - well, damned near nil.

Obama knew and didn't care.

The war against Afghanistan was won with a handful of American soldiers, the local coalition forces, and the worlds most powerful air force. None of that will happen in Burma, this typhoon will weaken the Junta immeasurably. Lets wait and see what happens in the fall out.

Yes - there was a mild scandal involving Jeri Ryan and her husband. She got testy about it.

Unfortunately for us conservatives, her husband just happened to be running for Senator from Illinois. He was forced to drop out of the race, and no suitable replacement for him could be found. Obama won the Senate seat in a landslide against the fill-in candidate.

So Jeri Ryan is to blame for Obama.

JustMyView (#313),

As Kurtz's article points out, the magazine is now independent of the church. See the link at the top of this thread.

Technically true.

Building on his reputation as a charismatic and "socially conscious" preacher (and no doubt also upon the fame conferred by his Obama connection), Wright decided several years ago to take the publication national. In September 2005, Trumpet officially separated from Wright's church and became an independent entity, with Wright as CEO and his two eldest daughters managing the magazine.

During the required orientation they told us all we were the problem because we were White, that all Whites are racists (including us), then tried to force us all into "racism education sessions". (ie: propaganda classes). The African-American people they set us up with called the Black people with us "uncle toms", told us we were stupid honkies, and verbally sexually harrassed the women that were with us.

This doesn't even get into the anti-America, anti-Semetic statements, classes, etc., going around the "camp".

The bottom right picture is definitely Elijah Mohammed.

the doctrine Elijah Muhammad taught was widely viewed as a black separatist doctrine. He taught that blacks were the original people on the Earth and had been tricked out of their power, conquered and oppressed by the Caucasian people via a global system of white supremacy.

Any black person who uses the word "n*gger," whether in its original form or in any of the abominable hip-hop variants, is a self-hating ass, regardless of how much money they make, and should be ignored on principle by any self-respecting person, black, white, or any shade between.

Pray for me.

See if they will let you have a loaner with the same operating system that you use. My husband's laptop (still under warranty) has been in the repair shop for 2.5 months. I think they must send them out of country for repairs. The loaner has been a life saver for him.

I doubt it. From your link:

From January 12, 1999 to January 15, 2002, Dr. Soaries served as New Jersey's 30th Secretary of State. Appointed by former Governor Christine Todd Whitman, he managed one of the premier departments of state government and served as a senior advisor to the governor on issues that transcended traditional departmental lines.

In February 2003, Dr. Soaries was appointed by President Bush to serve as a public director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. He was a member of the affordable housing committee of the bank.

A Bush appointee, and a Secretary of State under a Republican governor does not seem the sort of person Rev. Wright would honor with a picture on the cover of his magazine.

Not surprising. At the "Cultural" Bookstore in the State of Illinois Building in Chicago, and the "Afrocentric" Bookstore on Jackson/State in the DePaul Univ. building and another location on the south side, books and periodicals from the likes of Wright's church mingle with those from the Nation of Islam. There you'll find plenty of books filled with anti-semetic and anti-American lies (i.e. Jews fueled the slave trade, white doctors infecting blacks with AIDS and other lies) sitting alongside Terry McMillan's latest beach novel and Ebony, etc).

I browsed through these stores (quite sleek and high-end), and asked who owned them -- and was invited to leave.

I dare the mainstream media to have the balls to do an expose on these stores.

Also, more specifically about Barack Obama, I would also like to remind folks that back in 2000, he ran for Congress on Chicago's south side and was beaten badly. He ran against Bobby Rush, a former Black Panther, and was rejected by the largely black congressional district. Much of his support was from upper-middle class lakefront liberals, from outside his district. His need for street cred in order to get ahead explains some of his need to ally with Wright and his church.

By coming out this early with an exact and precise plan of how he would "deal with" climate change, McCain effectively eliminated global warming as an issue the Dems could bring up later in the campaign. He seems overly passionate and open about this issue. I think it is calculated. Weather he is right or wrong on the issue itself he strategically wiped out an issue that the Democrats have hoarded all for themselves. The environmentalists like Gore have positioned global warming and being "green" at just the right time as to be an issue in the presidential race. By bringing it up first and strong, he is taking the offense and doing it this early, he is counting on forgiveness and forgetful voters by November.

That leaves foreign policy. McCain will wipe the floor with the rookie on that issue.

It was sloppily written, and parts were worn and illegible. Certainly the best way to make the proper impression of being a looney.

I know McCain's a jerk (even if his web site does include LGF in its "blog roll") but compared with Obama, he's a prime example of statesmanship.
What a piss-poor set of choices this year. But one is just so bad that I have to make sure I vote for McCain, and I get everyone I know to do so as well.

re: #554 buzzsawmonkey

Yes. I once read an article by that Dostovesky analyst -- Mikhail Bakhtin. It was about the Grotesque and Carnival...the Wiki link reads:

Carnival
For Bakhtin, carnival is associated with the collectivity. Those attending a carnival do not merely constitute a crowd; rather the people are seen as a whole, organized in a way that defies socioeconomic and political organization.[19] According to Bakhtin, “[A]ll were considered equal during carnival. Here, in the town square, a special form of free and familiar contact reigned among people who were usually divided by the barriers of caste, property, profession, and age”.[20] The carnival atmosphere holds the lower strata of life most important, as opposed to higher functions (thought, speech, soul) which were usually held dear in the signifying order. At carnival time, the unique sense of time and space causes individuals to feel they are a part of the collectivity, at which point they cease to be themselves. It is at this point that, through costume and mask, an individual exchanges bodies and is renewed. At the same time there arises a heightened awareness of one’s sensual, material, bodily unity and community.[21]
Grotesque
Bakhtin’s notion of carnival is connected with that of the grotesque. The collectivity partaking in the carnival is aware of its unity in time as well as its historic immortality, associated with its continual death and renewal. According to Bakhtin, the body is in need of a type of clock if it is to be aware of its timelessness. The grotesque is the term used by Bakhtin to describe the emphasis on bodily changes through eating, evacuation, and sex: it is used as a measuring device.[22]

No Abe Lincoln?

Perhaps the Great Emanci-cracker has a back inside cover fold-over. You know, like in Mad Magazine. Two quick folds, and he turns into in a member of a minority; Wade Churchill, perhaps.

Ah, very true. When I hear someone say what I said I have the same thoughts as you so I understand your comment better. Politics is beyond trivial when it comes to human life. There are plenty of ways our country can 'wake up' without lives being lost. But I do think that the path our PC mentality is taking us will lead us, intentionally or not, to more lives being lost. And I can only think of one major political party that wants to take us down the PC road.

Lincoln saved the Union

We would not have been there to defeat hitler only 80 years later if Lincoln hadn't saved the Union.

The southerners wanted to conquer Mexico and central America and set up a slave empire.

All what might have beens aside, it is an uncontested fact that the American Civil War was the bloodiest conflict the US has seen, and judging from his writings and sermons, that's got to warm the cockles of Wright's heart.

Charles,

If you look at comment #4 in the link you provided (bizzyblog.com/2008/05/12/attention-stanley-kurtz- re-obama-wright-trumpet-ive-got-you-covered/),
it references this site: sweetness-light.com/archive/obamas-mentor-gives-fa rrakhan-his-award

It's another article about that trumpet magazine posted on Jan 10th 2008. If you follow a link to the pdf file (which is a tinyurl link pointing to trumpetmag.com/pdf/nov_dec_magazines.pdf - which i'm assuming was used to hide the referrer's identity), you end up at a parking page.

I'm guessing that there's been a bit too much attention for obama's liking, so they took their site offline. if you have a look at domaintools.com, it says there was an IP address change from 74.205.47.1 (the hosting address) to 216.40.33.252 (which would be the new parking address).

This change, according to domaintools.com happened on the 28th/3/2008.

Good. I had to control myself, and didn't quite succeed, when one moonbat came in pleased that "Obama squished Hillary like something on his shoe" (not quite the words, but close enough) And then said that the whole Wright stuff wasn't important.

There's an entire set of alternate-history novels based on the premise of the CSA winning the Civil War. Though curiously, Union America ends up allying with the Kaiser's Germany in the end...

i'm getting so tired of barak obama's windfall success because the msm is a bunch of assh*les w/ their own personal agenda to promote a bk. candidate (any bk. candidate) so they can 'prove' how open minded and color blind they are. geraldine ferraro is right. if he was a white man w/ this type of credentials, he would be an after thought right now.

re: #78 jainphx

What does Christianity have to do with the nation of Islam and Farrakhan. I suspect this church isn't far removed from the Nation.

To be fair the NOI founded by Elijah Muhammad had little to do with Islam. That was the main reason that Muhammad X got assassinated, he went to Mecca and saw Arabs with blacks and whites and this did not jive with black nationalism/separation and this led him toward NOI apostasy.

622 Timbre  Tue, May 13, 2008 8:03:03pm

Semi O/T

CLYDE, Texas — Behind guarded, ornate gates at the end of a rural road, a self-proclaimed prophet warns his followers about the end of time and rails against a dangerous and unclean world outside their West Texas compound.

The women are covered in long skirts and long-sleeve shirts. Many of the children have different mothers and share the same father.

But this isn't the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' ranch, which authorities raided last month in Eldorado after receiving reports that underage girls were being forced to marry much older men.

This is the House of Yahweh: a different, even darker sect that the state has been investigating for years. Authorities in February charged the group's 73-year-old leader with performing polygamous weddings and forcing about 40 children — some as young as 11 — to work jobs at his 44-acre compound.

"If a bunch of adults want to get together and follow some con man and throw their lives away, that's their right in this country," said Callahan County District Attorney Shane Deel. "But to me, when you do that to children and they don't have a chance, that's where the biggest concern is."

If convicted on the most serious charges, Yisrayl Hawkins faces up to 20 years in prison.

I swear, Lizards, not everyone in West Texas is a stark, raving hyper-religious, maniacal, theo-lunatic! Really!
