A Terrorist Group with a YouTube Channel

Wed, May 14, 2008 at 10:59:19 pm PDT

At YouTube they remove anti-jihad videos at the merest whiff of protest from Muslims.

But they have no qualms about hosting a channel for Harkat Ul Mujahideen, a group that is listed by the State Department as a foreign terrorist organization, with dozens of snuff films and jihad videos: YouTube - HarkatulMujahideen’s Channel.

So far I've found YouTube useful in looking up obscure 1980s music videos that someone else took the time and effort to post.

Kind of like how the most heavy-duty information I look up in Wikipedia are plot synopsises (synopsii?) of some of the never movies and TV shows out there...

There is surely a good case, then that YouTube are acting as accessories to terrorism. Of course the authorities are reluctant to disturb Google, so somebody should launch a private prosecution (like the one Nichole Simpson's family took out on OJ, that found him guilty).

If nothing else, the negative publicity will embattass YouTube into being yougher on this, or will force the government to clarify or enforce the law.

Dictatorial Chinese governments - the only kind there's been, ever - plan for the very long term. The present red dynasty is just the one we're dealing with, here and now, on a (historically ranged) much smaller and shrinking playing field. Like Islam, they want, and feel entitled to, complete supremacy; you and I exist merely - in their perception - to support define their elevated status.

Chinese and Islamist political mechanisms have lots in common.

Let them buy the old Soviet Technology, by now that technology is more than 30 years old and closing in on the end of the useful life. I wish they would continue to spend limited resources on antiquated technology.

Let them buy some F-1 fighters too.
If they want some old jeeps let them buy those too.
Hell we could even sell them some WW II era battle tanks.

Such technology in the hands of the enemy will guarantee American battlefield superiority in an era of limited resources.

Guys,

France is not part of NATO, they have not been for decades. But trust me, if the alternatives are Renault and Citroen roasts or MacDonald's hamburgers and Uncle Sam as a friend the French will chose the burgers any day.

By the way, please look at what is going on in the Horn of Africa, the French have been working side by side with US military in Djibouti for years now.

The primary operation that is on going in the Horn of Africa between the US and her allies is OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

But today the French are offering to support our efforts in Afghanistan even though they are not part of NATO.

This is from Radio Free Europe.

Afghanistan: France Offers Troops To Bolster ISAF Mission
By Ron Synovitz

French ISAF troop numbers will grow
(AFP)
France says it will send an additional battalion of troops to eastern Afghanistan in a move that will allow the United States to shift forces from the east to the south and meet Canada's demand for help in the fight against the Taliban in the volatile southern provinces.

The arrangement was announced in Bucharest, where NATO heads of state are discussing how to revamp and bolster the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

Polar bear is added to the endangered species list

[...]
As bears have become thinner, the reproductive rates of females and survival rates of cubs have declined. Overall, the western Hudson Bay population has dropped by 22% since 1987, according to studies.
[...]
Scientists think the global population of 20,000 to 25,000 bears remains robust, rebounding from the 1960s, when hunting had driven down the population to about 12,000. But virtually all polar bear experts predict rapid population declines in the Arctic, which is warming faster than anywhere else in the world[...]

The new protections under U.S. law will not affect the subsistence hunt in Canada, nor preclude native hunters from selling permits for as much as $30,000 to trophy hunters from the United States.

But it will prohibit trophy hunters from importing polar bear skins or heads into the United States. About 70 such trophies have been brought back each year.

"Native hunters claim they'll kill these bears anyway," said Paul Todd of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. "But if they don't need them for subsistence hunting, then, in reality, fewer bears will be killed each year.

A totally different topic... but somehow (?) related to many news items seen at LGF:

Students Fail — and Professor Loses Job

Who is to blame when students fail? If many students fail — a majority even — does that demonstrate faculty incompetence, or could it point to a problem with standards?

These are the questions at the center of a dispute that cost Steven D. Aird his job teaching biology at Norfolk State University.[...]

The university isn’t talking publicly about his case, but because Aird has released numerous documents prepared by the university about his performance — including the key negative tenure decisions by administrators — it is clear that he was denied tenure for one reason: failing too many students. The university documents portray Aird as unwilling to compromise to pass more students.

A subtext of the discussion is that Norfolk State is a historically black university with a mission that includes educating many students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The university suggests that Aird — who is white — has failed to embrace the mission of educating those who aren’t well prepared. But Aird — who had backing from his department and has some very loyal students as well — maintains that the university is hurting the very students it says it wants to help. Aird believes most of his students could succeed, but have no incentive to work as hard as they need to when the administration makes clear they can pass regardless.

“Show me how lowering the bar has ever helped anyone,” Aird said in an interview.

A clever take on Obama, from columnist James Burnett at the Miami Herald:

He is biracial. If my better-paid peers insist on continuing to refer to him as the black candidate, instead of a biracial candidate -- on those occasions when his appearance is relevant to the conversation -- then I am going to have to start referring to him as the white candidate.

And Burnett, for what it's worth, is black. So despite the best efforts of hacks like Reuben Navarette, there are some independent-minded black voters out there who will judge Obama for themselves, instead of crowning him simply because of skin color.

I base it on more than that.

I base it on:

French participation in Desert Shield Desert Storm (I was there).
I base it on what I am seeing here in Africa (I am here).
I base it on the most recent French Presidential elections (look at the current leadership's attitude to America).

I am basing it on what I have seen for the better part of a military career that has spanned more than two decades.

Many things that the media report is part of a larger agenda, and might not actually reflect what is happening on the ground.

Right this minute French military personnel are assigned here with us in Djibouti (America's only base in Sub-Saharan Africa) participating in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

We stand together and are working to achieve what our government's vision is, a stable African continent free from the influence of the murderers who pretend to be religious leaders.

I didn't say they weren't an ally-I said they weren't friends. I don't think French national interests are the same thing as American national interests, and in fact, I'd be shocked if they were. Historically- France has not been a good friend to America. See "Oil-For-Food" as an example.

Mmm. That might take a while.

Worthwhile, though.

It might take a while to achieve, but I believe that our Government's objectives in Africa and internationally to resist the efforts of murderous fanatics who intend to subjugate whole nations under a Caliphate are worthwhile and should be supported enthusiastically.

Yes, we may have a long road to travel, but at least we have begun the journey and we have had some impressive successes.

174 haakondahl  Thu, May 15, 2008 3:09:23am

I agree that France as a nation has been a perfidious ally. They have often been willing to put their financial interests above the cause of Freedom--supporting the Hussein regime by opposing American action due to the projected loss of revenue from oil investments was a particular low.
France has elected a stridently pro-American government now, which speaks volumes.
I was part of the France Sucks crowd when France sucked recently, but that was then.

With the exception of Spain, off the top of my head, most of the European governments have moved closer to the American position than they were four or eight years ago. Not a bad collection of friends for a cowboy President. And after the Spanish King's exchange with El Hugo, rabid leftism may have had its day in Spain. We'll see.

My friend we are doing our best to establish the rule of law in the region, we still have a lot of work to do, but the region is safer than it was two years ago.

Just ask yourself a question... do the Islamic Courts Union still control southern Somalia?

Do the Islamic Courts Union have any significant influence in Puntland and Somaliland (these are regions in northern Somalia)?

The Islamic Courts Union are the group of anti-American Islamic fundamentalists who controlled much of southern Somalia for a while.

We are working hard and we have a way to go, but we Americans and our allies are doing our best to bring peace to the region.

Be a little more charitable to people who want to stand with us, if we insult them or denigrate thier efforts we may hamper a growing friendship.

I say we take whatever help we can get and say thanks. We cannot force them to help us, we wish they would commit more resources to assist in the effort, but every little bit helps to achieve the objectives we are pursuing.

Hypothetically, because we need $1,000,000 to build a new hospital does not mean we should turn down some fertilizer so that we can plant more food to feed the starving people.

We say thank you and do the best we can with the resources we have.

My friend that is an opinion, and from all I have seen here in Africa we are getting the job done.

We are also getting the job done in Iraq.

We are also gettting the job done in the Phillipines.

We have some difficulty in Afghanistan, but we will get the job done there too.

Its a long hard road, but we are getting it done slowly and building long lasting relationships to ensure that after we leave there will be institutions that survive to protect the things we and our partners are working to build.

We wont lose the war, its just not going to happen.

You have to be patient, if we walk away from Iraq to put more forces in Afghanistan we could have a reversal in the gains we have made.

Look, the people who are directing the efforts in this war have spent most of their adult lives working on military matters. Let them use the resources the way they need to, they know how to win and will win if people who have no experience in military matters would just leave the fighting to them.

It always surprises me that a lawyer who gets elected and has no experience on the battle field would ignore the advice of people who have served in combat and lost friends and colleagues in the heat of battle. It seems illogical to me.

But then some politicians are illogical (not the majority), yet we in the military have to respect our elected leadership because they are a reflection of the will of the American people. I only wish that the ones who have an opinion that is not so well informed about military matters would respect our opinions more.

Perhaps as the Senator becomes better informed he will make statements that have more bearing on reality.

They will never rule the world,
Read about the Battle of Lourdes and Charles Martel.
Read about what happened in Vienna.
Read about what happened in Spain.
Read about what happened in Ethiopia in the 1450s and Portugal's intervention to save a Christian nation being over run by Muslim extremists.
Read about the Yum Kippur war when they ganged up attacked Israel on one of her holiest days and tried to destroy her.
They are like an aggressive bully, but when democratic governments and people of good will stand their ground and push back the extremists eventually turn tail and run. After they run they accuse the west of atrocities.
Read about the Crusades and its efforts to liberate Christians from the tyranny of Muslim oppression. Yet they suggest that the Crusades were not a reaction to the anhilation of Christian populations all over the Middle East.

I've been fighting with youtube for the last year over pro-jihadi videos and despite reporting violations repeatedly, these violent videos stay up, the accounts are never shut down and they continue to add more videos to the accounts.

On the other hand, I took a koran, placed a piece of bacon between the pages as a bookmark and shot 15 seconds of video. That was deleted from youtube within hours.

Google is aiding and abetting terrorism. It's well known that terrorists use google earth to plot attacks against the west and google does nothing to hide sensitive areas. There is a class action lawsuit just waiting to happen here.

re: #38 pat

It goes well beyond that. Americans of the 3rd generation of Chinese descent believe that China should be the only equal to America. The poor Russians are planning a Sino-American, Islamic-American war to revive their imperialistic prospects as both cultures lok upon them as easy meat.

China just {is} the only near-equal, in power and economic might, to the U.S., at present. Europe has an economy of comparable size, but too little cohesion and will to be a player on the world stage. Japan has an advanced economy, but it rests on a slender and shrinking demographic base. India may one day rank up there, but for now, she's not made the grade.

China has a simple strategy. Build, grow, and let nature take its course. They will be number 1, by and by. War, in this strategy, is a senseless risk.

China doesn't need a war to annex Siberia. Russians move out of Siberia because it's too harsh. Chinese move in because there are jobs there, and harsh as it is, those jobs offer a better deal than what's available back home. The border is long and porous, and anyway, the Russian economy needs workers in those jobs.

An Islamic-American war? Russia has lost its influence in the Islamic world. Their "help" for Syria and Egypt was useless. Their conquest of Afghanistan came a cropper and won them no friends. And their little war with the Chechens consolidated Islamic feeling against Russia.

There is little Russia can do to bring about such a war, and they have little to gain should it happen in some other way.

Russia has become rather a rogue state, and we are wise to be wary of them, but there's a limit to what they can do.

China has become a superpower, and we are wise to recognize this, but they have very attractive peaceful prospects, and no reason to take chances.

HuM is a Pakistan-based terrorist organization, and it's pretty obvious that the camp in the video is based in Pakistan. Can someone explain to me why we're sending billions of dollars in military aid to a country that still allows Islamic terrorists to train on its soil? Note that the HuM doesn't even operate in Waziristan or the "Tribal areas" where the Pakis claim they don't have jurisdiction - they train in camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, where there is HUGE Pakistani army presence and where the Pakis have total control.

Some "War on Terror" we're fighting. Our troops are fighting Islamic terrorists in two countries, but in a third country (one with nukes, no less) we send in our tax dollars and then look the other way when terrorists set up shop.
