Every decision is liberating, even if it leads to disaster. Otherwise, why do so many people walk upright and with open eyes into their misfortune?

I would not give a gas grill houseroom. I use a great huge wood/charcoal model. The bacon might fall through the grids, but I have a 20 inch cast iron fry pan that I cook on the grill in (too big for the stove.) Nothing better in this world than peanut butter, jelly and bacon sandwiches hot off the fire early on a warm morning.

I am a barbarian at heart Neo Con. I truly love cooking on wood. I even bake in a campfire. Not quite good enough to do the turkey on a string thing, but I wouldn't starve by a longshot.

I find it easier to give certain things up entirely than to diet. No candy. Definitely no more popcorn for quite some while. No chips. But give up bacon? Not a speck of it. I wouldn't eat it every day no matter how much I love it, but I will eat it once a week on GPs, just because the muslims hate it. I am free!

Talk about outrageous!

Obama welcomes Edwards endorsement, even if tardy

During which he said -

"We are here tonight because the Democratic voters have made their choice, and so have I," Edwards said to thunderous applause. He said Obama "stands with me" in a fight to cut poverty in half within 10 years, a claim Obama confirmed moments later.

What about the rest of them? The ones who haven't voted yet? The ones in Florida and Michigan who have their votes entirely discarded?

Talk about smoke-filled back rooms! I have never seen anything so blatant. Do the Democrats really think that most of us see their machinations as "fair" and "democratic"? What supercilious nicompoops!

22 Panhandler  Thu, May 15, 2008 3:28:22am

I can see why FBV isn't on in the early AM. Nothing to do with timing, the thread gets hijacked by the carnivores.

Not entirely. You will also find fruitcup eaters & coffee drinkers. The DT is an "open" thread, so no hijacking can take place.

Nope, not it if you lay it across the grill properly. If your charcoals are going out, just toss some bacon on the grill and the fat dripping on the coals keeps the fire going.

I think I missed them both this morning.

Gone from vegan to vegetarian? Well that's making progress. The granddaughter has decided that she will be "vegetarian" - though she is not allowed to give up milk, cheese, eggs or fish. I'm starting to wonder if I am going to sprout gills before she outgrows it. And finding that I have less guilt by the day at cooking meat just for myself, something that is entirely against my instinct.

I don't suppose those idiot German govt. officials stopped to think that when you perform an action on a regular basis, it becomes a habit. Even if you could justify such horror on the grounds of promoting a healthy sex drive in your child--and I don't remotely pretend to--you are still opening the door to very unhealthy sexual interaction as the child grows older. He said, "Go and tell this people:

" `Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'

Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed." (NIV)

Obama and infanticide. There are pro-choice (abortion) Americans, pro-partial birth (kill the baby as it’s being born) Americans, and pro Infanticide (kill the baby after it’s born) Americans.

To read more about how, while in the Illinois state senate, Obama led the fight to deny medical care to infants born alive as a result of botched abortions and let them die unaided in hospital rooms, check out the links below.

I usually choose to send a meal that I am dissatisfied with back via the manager. And I have been known to send the meal back twice. I am particularly prone to send back undercooked hamburger after a lecture about the dangers of and legal liabilities for E. coli O157. They do not do anything to my meal in the kitchen.

You know that, how?

So, if Hildie does not want Obama to be Pres.
So, if Hildie wants to be first woman Pres.
So, all she has to do is run a half ass third party ticket.
So, that takes just 10% from Obama,
So, that is all it will take.
So, McLame gets in and 4 years of that bull shit.

I'm probably one of the most "liberal" people here when it comes to abortion and I certainly do not support late term abortion. Heck, I don't even support second trimester abortion in other than exceptional circumstances. While, yes, I believe that whether or not a woman has an abortion is and should properly be between her, her doctor and her G_d (whoever that G_d might be), I also believe that there is no excuse these days for suddenly deciding to abort at 15 or 24 weeks when modern pregnancy tests will turn a positive before a woman has even missed a period.

Its heartening to see the formation/ organization of a critical argument again BHO. However, I fear that the message will not reach enough voters. Considering that many young voters may actually vote this time, and there is the Bob Barr libertarian candidacy (for which Ron Paul may join in spirit if not in person). Also, the MSM and Television networks still command the majority of Americans as far as source of information. Add to the woes an aging and uninspiring candidate who is expected to lead an uninspired ,rudderless political party, and you see my worry.

I agree with you Widow. Many (probably most) medical people don't approve of partial birth abortion either. The thing is though, once a child has been delivered alive, the Mother's wish that it not be is of no consequence. At that point standard medical ethics come into play - or they should. In most states putting the child aside to die cannot be done without a court order and it is murder to do otherwise, just as it would be murder for the mother herself to take the child home and then kill it in this way. Goes back to the days when this was standard practice when children were born with Down's syndrome or some other obvious physical defect and the fight to stop that. (That continued into the early 60's.)

Most states do not require any such thing as a Born Alive Infant Protection Act. And in most states medical personnel that participated in such a thing would be prosecuted for murder. It would be nice if ALL Americans felt all human life was precious, especially someone wanting to be the President of the United States.

Nuff serious stuff.

I have to tell you, I don't think that I have ever seen or heard of anyone ever coming so close to POTUS who has so few valid qualifications. There is even some serious doubt that he is even legally eligible to be POTUS. Reports have it that his mother didn't get on a plane home from Kenya, where she was visiting Senior's family, in time and they would not let her fly until after he was born, at which time she hotfooted it for Hawai'i. If true, he might not even be a legal citizen of the US, because he would have been born at a time where you had to choose your citizenship at 18 if born under these circumstances.

Note: One of the reasons that I give a fair amount of credence to this report and think it should be thoroughly investigated is that it was Obama who went after McCain as "ineligible." The ins and outs of born v. naturalized v. dual citizenship are pretty complex and even most attorneys are not familiar with them, especially not the rules in effect 40 or 50 or 70 years ago.

BTW, he got it wrong about McCain. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone at a time when Panama was a legal territory and protectorate of the United States of America, making him just as much a citizen by birth as if he had been born in Chicago.

More bullshit on globular worming

Scientists have been able to say with virtual certainty for the first time that the climate change observed over the past four decades is not the result of natural phenomena but is man made.

The research compounds the conclusion of the biggest scientific report on global warming to date, the fourth assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) last year, which asserted a strong likelihood that human action was changing the climate.

The new study raises the likelihood of "unnatural" causes of global warming to near certainty.

Having Governments decide the value of human life has led to horrific consequences.

But, I still am heartened by vigilance such as yours.

Oh, and don't forget the one strong asset of BHO. He is an orator!

Most states do not require any such thing as a Born Alive Infant Protection Act. And in most states medical personnel that participated in such a thing would be prosecuted for murder. Not to mention, what do you do six months down the road when "mommy dearest" changes her mind and decides to sue you for malpractice? After all, you should have known she was out of her mind, etc.

Maybe Illinois is just weird.

It seems the need for a Born Alive Infant Protection Act was because of legal ambiguities that arose from allowing partial birth abortions. Illinois was trying to pass an act similar to the Federal Law H.R. 2175, I’ve no idea why. Nevertheless this bit of acrobatic disingenuousness by Obama is Clintonesque.

My friend stood in Obama’s path and said, “Senator, we are going to pass Born Alive here in Illinois this year.”
Obama smiled smoothly and agreed, “I think you will,” adding, “I would have voted for the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in Illinois had it been worded the same as the federal bill. I think that’s the position the Democrats should take.”
There’s just one thing he forgot to mention: Obama had stopped his committee from adding the federal wording.

Having been on line at the time this was happening, here is what I saw at the time, and I can only speak for myself.

At the time Babba's comment was deleted, at least from what I could see, it appeared that the original offending comment was still up. My guess now is the monitor was working backwards to the offending original comment. Anyway, my perception at that time that Babba's comment had been deleted but the offending comment left up made things seem rather strange. From my perspective alone, I think it was a matter of timing.

That lead to my only comment on the whole thing of "Unreal", made at a time when it appeared to me that the original offending comment was being allowed to stand.

If my comment of "Unreal" offended you Charles, I apologize. That was the only post I made on the entire issue.

I've been very busy with other things for the last few weeks and missed a lot of the recent "flame wars" over evolution vs. ID and how to attract more progressives to the anti-Jihad movement while at the same time fundamentalists are around. But I went back and read them and can see where some folks on one side or the other got upset with the other, rightly or wrongly.

Just my own perception again, just speaking for myself, but I guess these recent discussions may have contributed to some raw nerves by some, leading to later ripple effects.

Let's move forward.

re: #247 3 wood

When I was a hatchling some wonderfully wise and kind Lizard offer me some truly valuable advice. Read what you are about to post, and if you have to think about whether it is appropriate to post or not, then it isnt.

But I distinctly recall some major changes in uniform and rank/merit badge insignia. In fact, I'm holding in my hand one of several of the then-new fangled merit/accomplishment badges. It is a brass plate with a compass embossed on it, and the word HIKING. It was worn on the belt.
I also just came across my cherished Mile Swim and Tote 'n' Chip cards.

As a young boy scout in a predominantly military (Navy/Marine Corps) boy scout troop (predominantly military as in the scout master assistant scout master and the fathers of all the scouts) way back in mid 70's I did my fair share of fetching of bacon stretchers, and left handed smoke shifters and what not...

I WAS A BOY SCOUT at ft benning, ga during the early 60's i have fond memories of this time. when the aclu stopped military support for the BSA i got so pissed being in the boy scouts at that time was one of my fav. memories. our scout master was a green baret so you can guess what our camping was like SURE WAS FUN

re: #40 galloping granny

Interesting. Now, can our service people have real bacon in the mideast? Or is that one of those dhimmi things we have agreed to, like the black bags they used to make our women in Saudi wear.? (and the fact they still cannot drive!)

Granny, I think we need to split those women into two groups. When we were there en masse, 1990-91, the Saudis' only restriction was that the women had to wear their BDU shirts rather than t-shirts. (I'll get into it next paragraph, why this was not such a bad idea.) They drove. No burkas. On the other hand, before and after, any women at the training mission (of which I think there were few if any) were such a minority that they were better off blending in. From the Saudi point of view, they went as far as they possibly could without risking plunging themselves into civil war.

Not a bad idea...in the desert, it's actually unwise to strip down to t-shirts for two reasons. One is that the sun will roast your arms. The other is that you want your body to hang onto the sweat until it has picked up as much body heat as possible before evaporating and shirts, with sleeves down, aids this.

Those are objectively practical reasons. A more subjective reason is that the locals, not so much the Saudis themselves (who have practical access to what are effectively female slaves), but the Third Country Nationals (TCNs) are so unused to the sight of bare female skin that they tend to...overreact, and take it as an invitation. Add in typical American female behavior, by which I mean no more than a friendly smile toward a stranger, and from their very constrained cultural upbringing, they take it as an absolute invitation. Complain, wail, whine..."that's so unfair and barbaric"...makes no difference. That is how they are.

I recall going to the Royal Saudi Landforces building (the "Jetsons' building" which, if you had ever seen it, you would understand) to discuss with some Saudi officers, "When, as will inevitably happen, one of our TCNs rapes one of your military women, do you want the execution in your compound or is it okay if we chop the bastard in front of the mosque on Friday, as usual?"

Bacon...it, and ham, are in the T-rations. So, I think, are they in B Rats, though I don't know how much we use B's these days. And there are pork products in C Rats (MREs), as well. The locals don't like it, but they put up with it. Even that Training Mission I mentioned get's pork in, in limited quantities, for sale at their very tiny commissary. If someone over there is bacon deprived, it's probably a local logistic issue.

As for the indignity of unequal treatment for female soldiers...they're soldiers. They, like the men, are there to win. If wearing their ACUs complete helps us win, that's what they should do. They can wear bikinis in downtown (insert Moslem city here), _after_ we win. Until then, all personal considerations are basically irrelevant.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. The devastation from the Chinese quake is staggering, and one can only begin to wonder about the ultimate death toll, though the government admits the toll is likely to be greater than 50,000. There are also questions about whether newer construction was built to the seismic codes and whether shortcuts were taken that put lives in jeopardy.

The dam that was damaged yesterday, above the devastated city of Dujiangyan, was only two years old, and the authorities had to rush to lower the reservoir behind it when 4 inch cracks appeared along its rim. Had that dam failed, the death toll could have climbed exponentially as hundreds of thousands lived beneath the dam.

Israel 'ready' for Gaza assault after rocket attack

Israel has warned that its forces are prepared to launch a major military assault on Gaza, after a rocket attack wounded at least 14 people while US President George W Bush was in Israel.

"The Israeli army has never been this ready to launch a large-scale operation in Gaza," said Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, a member of Israel's security cabinet.

"It may be that we have no choice but to destroy all the nests of terror. Apparently we'll have no choice."

Hamas, the Islamist group that runs the impoverished territory, is preparing defensive positions in anticipation of a possible military incursion, Israeli's military intelligence chief, Major General Amos Yadlin, told the Haaretz newspaper.

Mr Bush, on a five-day trip in the Middle East, told Israel it could rely on continued US backing.

re: #247 3 wood

3wood, that's exactly what I thought had happened-just a series of strange things with the deletions and I am totally sick about yesterday on LGF, I literally took a break from everything and had to take a walk and get some fresh air. I believe there were no bad intentions. I raised the spectre of a monitor being over jealous myself-because it just seemed weird. The timing was awful, and then with the troll on the thread, dropping those awful comments-things were just shooting along. It seemed like one thing, but obviously it was another. Then there was the banning of the troll, and questions about the deletions and accusations of lying, and hurt feelings and I can't help feeling so angry that a stinking troll was the spark that created such an awful train wreck of a thread. I didn't post anything the whole day because I was really shaken-and as neurotic as that sounds it's true.

Charles-I'm so sorry about yesterday.

I am angry at myself for taking all of this so personally, as I am sure you and many other lizards did yesterday as well. Emotions were very raw, and it was just awful. But I care a great deal about so many of you, and have so much respect for the individuals and group vibe here at LGF-this place you created means a lot to me, and I feel truly blessed by the things I have learned here and the people I have met-either in person or in real life. I have on occasion posted things too quickly, because my fingers sometimes move faster than my brain-sometimes things come from the gut instead of from the rational portion of the mind. That being said, I hope that we can all move forward.

I can only speak for myself of course, but Charles if you feel that I was inappropriate, I will of course respect your position entirely.

BTW, you did hear correctly about Bush's speech to the Kinesset as I posted in the spin-off links before I even said hello this morning.
While Barry no doubt feels confident about winning the nomination he definitely needs to brush up - hell, go to school - on the whole US/Israel/Iran situation - maybe start with the taking over of United States' territory (our Embassy in Teheran) by Iran, the holding of our hostages for 444 days of brutal condiditons and treatment, the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in 1983 and such before he starts mouthing off about the WoT - the WoT didn't start at 9/11; OUR side started it then, but Iran has been at war with us for nearly 30 years now.

Good morning lizards & lizardesses,

Interesting editorial at Now Lebanon,

The Shia community is obeying a leadership that cannot be said, in any way, to have ever understood the essence of the Lebanese system. Hezbollah and its secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah, will often insist that sectarian compromise requires handing the party, and Shia in general, veto power over political decision-making. But that’s not what the consociational system is about; the point of the sectarian arrangement is not to build a system based on mechanisms of obstruction. It is to force the different communities to reach compromises in order to avert mechanisms of obstruction. Hezbollah has repeatedly tried to ignore this by imposing its will in the street or through its guns. The result has been a gathering, strengthening alignment of adversaries that will fight hard before allowing Hezbollah or the Shia to gain hegemonic power.

But wasn’t this reaction always obvious? Apparently not to Nasrallah and his Iranian sponsors, who never had any liking for the baroque but necessary give and take of the Lebanese order – let alone respect for the retribution that has always crippled those ignoring its fundamental rules. Through its contempt for Lebanon, Hezbollah has left itself with two stark choices: either to integrate fully into the state or to control the state. But since it will or can do neither, we are in for a long and harsh standoff between Hezbollah and the rest of Lebanese society.

re: #247 3 wood

The ID/evolution thing may have stressed some. For me it was nothing; knew it was there all along. Saw what I expected to see.

The real stress and strain I believe comes from the fact we have no candidate; nor do we have leadership on the horizon any time soon. Many lizards know that all the hard work (not so much by us lizards) by the US military will be thrown away and the USA plunged into a civil disturbing socialism onslaught over the next decade over which looms the potential for the American experiment to be disrupted causing irreparable damage across the globe. The US military is going to be attacked from within the system and I don't know if they have the right mindset or support to counter it. We have enemies within and no one seeming capable of countering them.

Obama and infanticide. There are pro-choice (abortion) Americans, pro-partial birth (kill the baby as it’s being born) Americans, and pro Infanticide (kill the baby after it’s born) Americans.

I fully expect the Democrats, with their huge majorities in January, to get up the nerve to try to pass a national abortion law which will define a right to a tacpayer funded abortion to any female over the age of 9 (without parental consent for those under 18). They may include the Obama provisions for infanticide in the case of "imperfect" babies if the mother consents. By the time their law gets contested in the Supreme Court they may have named their new judges.

Of course Very Late Term Abortion, aka the death penalty, will be forbidden even though this is the only case where you know what is being eliminated.

The AP's Jennifer Loven can't help herself heaping scorn on Bush and Israel for not mentioning the Palestinians enough in his speech before the Knesset.

Where's the outrage over the incessant rocket attacks? Where's the daily count of rockets slamming into Israel, along with the running tally of Israelis injured or killed by those kassams, mortars, and now Iranian grad missiles?

You want scorn? I'll give you scorn. When you openly shill for terrorists, you get nothing but. The Palestinians have repeatedly passed up chances for peace, and have engaged in war thereafter. Today is no different. It's time that Israel and the US respond in kind, instead of offering up still more concessions that are seen as nothing but weakness.

No, they believe in combining their "church" with the state. The Soviet Union may have claimed to be atheist, but they combined the church and state into one whereby the church was the state. That's the type of religion Obama is a messiah for.

Boker Tov.

Just two quick thoughts I had this morning.

First is to be filed away in the "just in case the MSM, etc, claim that the Israeli/Pali conflict is fueling world instability and is the root cause of everything and the most important issue on earth" box:

This morning in the gym I saw that Bush was giving live speech the the ISraeli Knesset.

CNN, MSNBC show the first 3 sentences of his speech than cut away to something else completely.

FOXNEWS didn't cover it live at all.

Apparently, it's no big deal.

Second. I saw that Edwards has endorsed Baruch.

It struck me that if Mitt Romney was the Rep nominee, we'd be hearing constantly from the MSM, etc, obviously about how being a Mormon disqualifies him, but even more so that, since he's handsome and photogenic, that he is more IMAGE than SUBSTANCE.

Something, of course, they will never say about Silky Pony and Baruch.

Just my 2 agarote this busy boker.

The Atlantic on "Bush's Attack On Obama"

15 May 2008 10:06 am

The White House insists that the following from President Bush at the Knesset in Israel this morning was not meant to be an attack on Barack Obama but instead a message aimed at any one of a number of Democrats:

Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

Some people suggest that if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away. This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of our enemies, and America rejects it utterly. Israel’s population may be just over 7 million. But when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because America stands with you.

The Obama campaign saw otherwise:

“It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel's independence to launch a false political attack. It is time to turn the page on eight years of policies that have strengthened Iran and failed to secure America or our ally Israel. Instead of tough talk and no action, we need to do what Kennedy, Nixon and Reagan did and use all elements of American power - including tough, principled, and direct diplomacy - to pressure countries like Iran and Syria. George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the President's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel.”

(1) Bush knew was what he saying -- of course the first paragraph was aimed at Obama
(2) The Obama campaign is very, very touchy about anything related to Israel

My thoughts:

1. Bush's speach was great. Now if only he matched it with actions.
2. Obama objected to Bush implying Obama was willing to meet with terrorists, which clearly demonstrates that Obama still does not get it: Syria & Iran ARE terror states.

Israel rejects request for PA body armorhttp://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1210668 639064&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

Israel recently rejected a request by the US security coordinator to the region to allow Palestinian security forces to receive personal armor kits, night-vision goggles and electronic communication systems that the PA planned to use to set up a military communications network, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

A ray of sanity, but this worries me.

According to Blair's plan, the PA will receive security control over a large area, including and surrounding Jenin. In addition, restrictions on the passage of Palestinian businessmen in the area will be eased. Blair also said Israel had agreed to remove four West Bank checkpoints, upgrade seven others, and move one.

Let’s be realistic about torture
Legitimising the practice would allow it to be used more honestly and effectively

I still get a kick out of how even proponents of torture qualify it with the "lasting mental distress" argument. The people we want to "torture" think that if they get mentally retarded people to strap on bombs and blow themselves up in the middle of a group of school children, they'll be rewarded in heaven with a 72 virgin fuckfest. Yeah, I sure am worried about what waterboarding will do their mental health.

This paragraph is brilliant:

Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

Well, sure, I mean, they did such a good job protecting "Malcolm X"...

Yea expect 'imperfections'.

Just Barry will gut the US military and also carry out his mandate to dismantle the US nuclear weapons as he stated. The entire services will be disponded including the SS. He'll have to replace them with people he 'trusts'

The non-proliferation threat does not exist in a vacuum. The issues I just mentioned -- along with other important issues such as our own strategic nuclear arsenal -- must also be considered as we move forward.

[Link: obama.senate.gov...]
[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

Obama will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons, and pursue it. Obama will always maintain a strong deterrent as long as nuclear weapons exist. But he will take several steps down the long road toward eliminating nuclear weapons. He will stop the development of new nuclear weapons; work with Russia to take U.S. and Russian ballistic missiles off hair trigger alert; seek dramatic reductions in U.S. and Russian stockpiles of nuclear weapons and material; and set a goal to expand the U.S.-Russian ban on intermediate- range missiles so that the agreement is global.

After he declares all the nuclear programs around the world are gone he can completely dismantle the US nuclear weapons.

'We have no moral obligation to Israel'
I'm sure this guy is from the "At least Hitler ended unemployment" crowd.

The representative of the Austrian company which is doing the deal with Iran said that "as a company" they have no moral obligation to Israel. This is true.
The main issue is whether the company is legally allowed to do a large energy deal with Iran due to the international sanctions.
The article goes on to make it pretty clear that the Austrian government still recognizes some kind of moral obligation.
I'm not sure what effin' Austria has done for Israel in any event, but this article is a red herring.

557 Kenneth  Thu, May 15, 2008 7:48:57am

Here's the full text of Bush's speech to the Knesset

The fight against terror and extremism is the defining challenge of our time. It is more than a clash of arms. It is a clash of visions, a great ideological struggle. On the one side are those who defend the ideals of justice and dignity with the power of reason and truth. On the other side are those who pursue a narrow vision of cruelty and control by committing murder, inciting fear, and spreading lies.

This struggle is waged with the technology of the 21st century, but at its core it is an ancient battle between good and evil. The killers claim the mantle of Islam, but they are not religious men. No one who prays to the God of Abraham could strap a suicide vest to an innocent child, or blow up guiltless guests at a Passover Seder, or fly planes into office buildings filled with unsuspecting workers. In truth, the men who carry out these savage acts serve no higher goal than their own desire for power. They accept no God before themselves. And they reserve a special hatred for the most ardent defenders of liberty, including Americans and Israelis.

And that is why the founding charter of Hamas calls for the "elimination" of Israel. And that is why the followers of Hezbollah chant "Death to Israel, Death to America!" That is why Osama bin Laden teaches that "the killing of Jews and Americans is one of the biggest duties." And that is why the President of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages and calls for Israel to be wiped off the map.

...America stands with you in breaking up terrorist networks and denying the extremists sanctuary. America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions. Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapons would be an unforgivable betrayal for future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

RTWT!

When I see a Jew, I see a living testimony that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the One, true and living God. I see a person whose lineage tells of a history of persecution, who nations have tried to drive out and wipe out. Yet, by the Grace of God, He has kept His promise. His remnant has been brought from the ends of the earth back to the land of their fathers. When I see a Jew, I see the promises of God, ... kept.

"B" doesn't have that many choices, but I like:

Barak (lightning)
Baruch (blessed)

Then there are the names you can add "ben" to, ie: Ben Ami (son of my people), Ben Yishai, Ben Shalom, Ben Ezra etc...

PS: Mazel Tov!

Thanks. I lov(ed) the name Barak until recently. One problem is that it will be a middle name and our last name starts with a "b," and his older bro snagged "Benjamin."

31% of the company is owned by the Austrian STATE.

AP Standards: Obama's Top Contributors Linked to Investments in Sudan

It's a strange one sided sort of game the Associated Press is playing in its latest attack against John McCain. AP writer Jim Kuhnhenn is applying a six degrees of separation style standard in trying to accuse John McCain of investing in the Sudan because his wife owned some mutual funds that had holdings in an Indian company that allegedly does business in the Sudan. The far left has picked up on this "AP newsbreak" as evidenced by its front page status at The Huffington Post.

So I decided to play the game myself by looking at the mainstream media's favorite target of obsessive adulation, Barack Obama. My my, would you look at that? When I applied the McCain standard to Barack Obama I quickly discovered that Obama's top contributors are being targeted by activists that are targeting financial companies to divest in the Sudan. Surprised?

Sudan.

We believe that free people should strive and sacrifice for peace. So we applaud the courageous choices Israeli's leaders have made. We also believe that nations have a right to defend themselves and that no nation should ever be forced to negotiate with killers pledged to its destruction. (Applause.)

So why are the Israelis expected to negotiate with the PA?

From your link, Nat Hentoff writes,

But on abortion, Obama is an extremist. He has opposed the Supreme Court decision that finally upheld the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act against that form of infanticide. Most startlingly, for a professed humanist, Obama -- in the Illinois Senate -- also voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. I have reported on several of those cases when, before the abortion was completed, an alive infant was suddenly in the room. It was disposed of as a horrified nurse who was not necessarily pro-life followed the doctors' orders to put the baby in a pail or otherwise get rid of the child.

"Punished with a child", Obama, "punished with a child".

Bush's speech to the Knesset especially this part,

Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history. (Applause.)

Some people suggest if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away. This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of the enemies of peace, and America utterly rejects it. Israel's population may be just over 7 million. But when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because the United States of America stands with you. (Applause.)

...as Obama felt it was directed at him. And you're not allowed to critisize him.

Sounds like my commute. I had an a-hole in an m3 riding my tail for a few miles only to whip into the right (parking) lane to pass me and promptly have to slam on his/her brakes to avoid rear ending a parked car. I think about 20 cars passed before he could get moving again. And who says there is no justice in this world.

But that does get to the heart of what the eco-freaks really want to do. They want to undo the Industrial Revolution. They want the peons living in one room cabins and riding horses while they live in mansions and ride in private jets. They want to maximize the gap between rich and poor.

Al Gore is a prime example of this.

And Barbara Streisand:

''She never meant that it necessarily applied to her,'' BARBRA STREISAND'S spokesman said yesterday.

He was talking about an energy-conservation manifesto on her Web site -- [Link: www.barbrastreisand.com...] -- that urged people to, among other things, hang their laundry on old-fashioned clotheslines and air-dry their dishes ''instead of using the dry cycle'' on the dishwasher.

The message, ''A Call to Conserve,'' was first reported by MSNBC.com.

''We must make concrete changes in our lifestyles to help solve this energy crisis,'' she wrote. ''Conservation will help diminish the chances that protective environmental laws will be cut, more power plants will be built and nuclear energy policies will be reintroduced.''

[Link: 64.233.167.104...]

Does that make any sense. It's still morning and I've only had two cups of coffee.

My mom's never owned a dryer, and she still line dries everything. Doesn't work too good when it rains, though. And then there's the occasional bird.

What about winter? Those must be some mighty cold (and wet) sheets on the bed.

Not to mention that Reagan, confronted with the Iranian backed Hezbollah attack on the Marine Barracks, pulled back, a la Clinton in Somalia.
I loved Reagan and still think he was the best President we've had in my lifetime, but that was a HUGE mistake by him, as was Clinton's cut and run in Somalia.

* * *
When you recall Iran was so petrified of Reagan they released US hostages held 444 days on the day Reagan stepped into office in 1981, he could have made mincemeat of that regime in its infancy, before they lost their fear of him by 1983.

At least the Soviets feared Reagan, but you're right, many presidents ignored the repeated threats going back to the horrific Munich Olympics murders of Israeli athletes, live on tv.

THAT should have been retaliated against by all of us.

Of the 14 million things I've learned about Barack Obama in the past two years, that would be right at the bottom of those that interest me.

Who is supposed to be outraged? Obama critics? Obama supporters?

Goes back to Larry Craig and cries of hypocrisy I guess. Being gay will have some prejudicial impact but I doubt it will include many of his followers. The aspect of cheating on his wife and the attendant STD threat he may have put her under would however hurt him greatly. I only mention this in passing; the Rev Manning is nuts and probably has nothing. Or he could be the delivery system for the atom bomb some think hope Hillary has been holding back.

And, not unlike the immigration issue, either - both Repub's and Dem's have ignored the whole issue (in the hope of getting another "underclass" to vote en masse for their party) since Ike.

As to Iran and Immigration, We, the People, have been underrepresented for 30+ years

Well, it's true some immigrants build little Italies and Chinatowns, and some only come for jobs since their homelands don't provide opportunities to raise their families or their status.

But many do value American citizenship for our fantastic basic values which many other countries don't share, including the right to private property.

Obama is, just like Dhimmi Carter, a moral narcissist. He gets very touchy when you criticize him. Check his last debate with Hillary. I sure hope McCain needles him when he gets a chance to debate, because B. Hussein will react very badly in public.

Needle him? I think there is a better chance of him cuddling with him unfortunately.

re: #795 freedombilly

I disagree. For now McCain has been keeping his powder dry while Hillary & Obama fight it out. That's just a wise campaign strategy: when your 2 opponents are fighting, don't interrupt. When the time comes McCain can & will be very tough.
