Obama's Diplomatic Partner: 'The Hidden Imam Manages All the Affairs of the World'

Thu, May 15, 2008 at 6:49:19 pm PDT

Barack Obama wants to sit down and have tea and discuss the issues (using his amazing diplo-fu) with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It’s all about hope! and change! and waffles!

I hope they have plenty of extra syrup if/when they meet, because here’s the mini-Hitler himself, explaining that “the Hidden Imam manages all the affairs of the world.”

Diplomacy is the only answer, obviously.

(Courtesy of MEMRI TV.)

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Some people see only the external aspect of the enemy, and not its ulterior motives. The people who came to occupy Iraq – it seemed as if all they wanted was to take over the region and its oil. But when you peel off the outer layer, you see that their analysis is different. They have realized that something is about to happen in the region. The hand of God is about to emerge and eradicate the injustice in the world. They discuss this among themselves. Look how much attention they have given it. Some people believe the Hidden Imam is living his life somewhere, without any concern for the problems of humanity. If this were the case, there would be no existence at all. Everything would be in chaos. The Hidden Imam manages all the affairs of the world.

Oh, my.

What would the reaction be if some British Prime Minister talked about the return of Arthur from where he sleeps? Or some European leader spoke confidently of Charlemagne's waking?

He's nuts.

Anybody else get the email from the Mcain campaign about what he hopes to accomplish in his first term? On the surface it wasn't bad, but there are some mildly creepy things in it.

Ahmadinejad KNOWS that The Hidden Imam came OUT of 'hiding' May 23, 1844 in Persia/Iran, and brought to a close the previous 6,000 years of waiting... even though Muslim imams and mullahs ordered the incarceration, torture and death-by-firing squad of that previously 'hidden' imam...

And Ahmadinejad recently (5 days ago) ordered the summary seizure and imprisonment of the Followers of the Glory of God, promised BY the 'Hidden Imam', Who was with humankind from 1853 to 1892...

ALSO under the heel of Muslim imams and the caliphate...

But Ahmadinejad pretends He hasn't come yet, so that Ahmadinejad can continue to manipulate Muslim masses...

It's also hilarious that Ahmadinejad is talking about the US involvement in Iraq, when his country is going gangbusters to try and influence the outcome there. Iran wouldn't mind taking over Iraq's oil. Heck, wars have started over such things.

And the rest of the region is concerned about this hand of god stuff, especially coming from people who see auras and lights and stuff. Saudi Arabia is pushing its influence around, because they're scared that Iran's going to go nuclear on them. Forget the Israel stuff - the Saudis know that the first bomb to go off has a 50/50 chance of taking out the Saudis.

This is a Shi'ite revenge myth, and Ahmadinejad wants to make it reality in the worst way (in every sense of that phrase).

From American Thinker:

At the end of his speech at the United Nations in the fall of 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an invocation to Allah to bring about the speedy reappearance of the Hidden Imam.
The media and, sad to say, many academic persons were at a loss to explain this eschatological reference. The situation was complicated by later interviews in which Ahmadinejad reported that many of his co—religionists claimed that while he was making those remarks, they could see about him an aura of light. He recalled that he too was aware of a celestial light at that time. He also pointed to the fact that the 'leaders of the world' were watching him at that time with a fixed gaze, apparently unable to look away.

I think BO has been blinded by Dinner Jacket's celestial light.

The one good thing that came from the failed hostage rescue attempt is that it sowed the seed that ultimately resulted in the combined joint task force, one of the most important military advances ever conceived.

The lines between services became blurred, and the goal was success for the country, not for the branch or particular unit. It greatly enhanced cooperation and understanding among the various armed forces, and created a kind of kinship and comraderie that had never existed before.

I don't know -- do you really want to fear a person? After all, it's a person -- and what is the common fate of all people? He or she dies. Do you see where this expression of fear of a person might lead? (it's to think of this person as if they were somehow "g-dlike" or were not mere mortals). I think you have to assess them, understand where they're coming from, then resolve to stand firm...or do that which may be necessary to protect oneself -- but not to show (at least in public) fear...(petty dictators thrive in atmosphere's of fear -- it's what they create and then pose themselves as "invincible" -- when in reality, they are not "invincible" -- what's that one State in the U.S. which has as its motto something about Tyrants?).

Even the Iranian Clerics are starting to question Ahmadinejad.

Iran Clerics Rebuke Ahmadinejad

Two leading clerics retorted that Ahmadinejad would be better off concentrating on Iran's social problems -- most notably its double-digit inflation -- than indulging in such mystical rhetoric.

"If Ahmadinejad wants to say that the hidden imam is supporting the decisions of the government, it is not true," sniped Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moghadam, the spokesman of the conservative Association of Combatant Clerics.

"For sure, the hidden imam does not approve of inflation of 20 percent, the high cost of living and numerous other errors," he said, according to the Kargozaran daily.

Ali Asghari, a member of the conservative Hezbollah faction in parliament, told the president not to link the management of the country to the imam.

"Ahmadinejad would do better to worry about social problems like inflation ... and other terrestrial affairs," the Etemad Melli daily quoted him as saying.

re: #165 hayseed

You're right....

After the completion of Fajr Salaat (congregational dawn prayers), Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will open the door behind him where Dajjal accompanied by 70,000 Yahudis (Jews) will be. He will indicate with his hand to move away between him (Hadhrat Isa (A.S.)) and Dajjal. Dajjal will then see Hadhrat Isa (A.S.). At that time every Kafir on whom the breath of Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will reach, will die. His breath will reach up to the distance of his eyesight. The Muslims will then come down from the mountains and break loose on the army of Dajjal. There will be war, Dajjal will retreat, and Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will pursue Dajjal. Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will have two flexible swords and one shield with him and with these he will kill Dajjal at the Gate of Hudd. He willl show the Muslims the blood of Dajjal which will get on his shield. Eventually the Yahudis will be selected and killed. The swine will be killed and the cross broken. People will revert to Islam. Wars will end, and people will return to their respective countries. One Jamaat (group) of Muslims will remain in his service and companionship.

He does kill a bunch of Jews though.

Yes, you're right. We are not used to dealing with people who model their political aspirations to fit a tyrannically religious worldview. I don't know -- do you really want to fear a person? After all, it's a person -- and what is the common fate of all people? He or she dies. Do you see where this expression of fear of a person might lead? (it's to think of this person as if they were somehow "g-dlike" or were not mere mortals). I think you have to assess them, understand where they're coming from, then resolve to stand firm...or do that which may be necessary to protect oneself -- but not to show (at least in public) fear...(petty dictators thrive in atmosphere's of fear -- it's what they create and then pose themselves as "invincible" -- when in reality, they are not "invincible" -- what's that one State in the U.S. which has as its motto something about Tyrants?).

a lot of psychopaths believe sincerely the rubbish they spout.

I've seen no evidence to suggest that Ahmadinejad is a psychpath. He's a member of a cultish faction within Shia Islam (sort of a cult within a cult) that preaches some fairly absurd nonsense, but it's not as though he's some lone whackjob who dreamed all this stuff up on his own.

Ahmadinejad is acting entirely in accordance with his sincere beliefs. He's not behaving irrationally (although you can certainly make the case that his beliefs are irrational by our standards, but that's not the same thing).

If according to the president of Iran, the Hidden Imam, that is the 12th Shiite Imam, is still alive over these past centuries, and manages all the affairs of the world, then this Hidden Imam Shiite guy is more powerful than Allah.

And probably Ahmadinejad is setting himself up to either present the Hidden Imam to the world, or to reveal himself to be the Hidden Imam (once Iran has nukes).

What would a President Obama ("We are the ones we have been waiting for") say to His Holiness (or His Nuttiness) Mahmud Ahmadinejad?

Here is what Charles Krauthammer said today: "What exactly is he [Obama] going to say to these thugs that has not already been said? If he doesn't have anything new to say, then a trip to Iran, or a negotiation with Ahmadinejad, is an exercise in redundancy, and in honoring him. And if he has new stuff to say, what's it going to be? It's not going to be more sticks. He's not going to be tougher on Iran than Bush and Cheney. It's going to be carrots. So let's ask Obama: Are you going to offer Iran Lebanon? Are you going to offer it sway over Iraq? Are you going to offer it domination of the Gulf? Or are you going to offer it America squeezing Israel? So it IS about appeasement, and Israel IS a place in which you want to make...[interruption].. because if there WERE to be an offer to Iran it would surely involve Israel's interest." Funny that they say the muslims will come down from the mountains- Revelations says:

Revelation 6:15-17 (New International Version)
15Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

So pretty much, the exact opposite of what the muslims say will happen. Hmmm. Interesting.

Barack Obama will turn Tehran in to a parking lot.
Stop laughing at me. Stay with me on this...

Obama is the peacenik wussie candidate that wants to talk. So he will talk. Then, when he realizes (either down deep, or at last) that Iran is about to make Tel Aviv go from 87 degrees to a few million degrees in less than a second (or some other provocation), he can lay waste to Iran with the "street cred" of being the lover, not the fighter. No one on the right is likely to get pissy about it (unless he just trys the 30,000 feet and above Clinton plan) and the lefties won't like it but since it is their guy with his finger on the button, they won't bitch too much.

I love Chucky K, but I have a thought that seems destined to spill out on to the paper.

What do you think? Am I on something or onto something?

Are you asking me to bet my first-born on that? I might need a bit more convincing.

He's not behaving irrationally (although you can certainly make the case that his beliefs are irrational by our standards, but that's not the same thing).

w/out regard to proper medical diagnosis as to his motivation, the asshat is a dangerous s.o.b. and will soon become even more dangerous. i call the assh*le a crazy bastard because of what he says and what he has planned. call it layman terminology abt his sincere beliefs (whether he thought them up or not.) he's fcking nuts. I wouldn't include Pinochet in that unillustrious group. He overthrew a raving Marxist after members of the legislative and judicial branches of the government literally begged him to do it. And Pinochet voluntarily stepped down. NO other dictator has done that.

Three points:

First, I was really going for the "general-cum-president" bit and not focusing so much on politics...Frankly, I just couldn't come up with a lot of "fresh" examples...(musharraff?)

Second, my point on fashion still stands...show me the brushed brass helmets!

Third, Auggie might have been useful for taking down a marxist dictatorship, but he kind of replaced it with his own and I think (although I can be educated on this) that his regime was guilty of a lot of human rights abuses...and I don't mean just being tough with violent revolutionaries; obviously that would have been legit...I mean really going after people that just didn't think like he wanted them to think. In other words, replacing one dictatorship for another isn't really all that much better...one murdering bastard is a murdering bastard; the victims are still dead.

Well, I have been out most of the day, and I can't read all the comments upthread, but here is my take on it.

Given the virulent reaction that the Democrats gave Bush's speech at the Knesset today (you know, the one that got a standing ovation), this was a planned ambush by the Democrats.

If they win the Presidency in 2008, the Democrats are going to conspire to take out Israel.

Let's not forget that Ahmadinejad has already explicitly said that he is not a small child that will be bribed out of his nuclear program.

Those are his words, and they are quite telling.

The guy has made it crystal clear that "diplomacy" isn't going to work, in fact, he's said the process is insulting.

Meanwhile every single day of "diplomacy" is another day of ever-higher oil prices filling Iran's coffers with cash, and another day of spinning centrifuges bringing Iran to nuclear weapons.

So what is Obama going to do about this?

Answer, he's going to do EXACTLY what Iran wants, by conducting more negotiations (of the type that have failed for the last several years), and providing Iran with even more time.

I don't think its wrong to want to conduct negotiations per se, but having that public posture is EXACTLY the wrong thing to do. The message it sends isn't one of accomodation, its one of weakness.

re: #309 republic

I honestly believe, that under no circumstances, would either Clinton or Hussein Obama defend the USA militarily, and that is if we were outright attacked on a massive scale, in the homeland.

Watch.

They'd likely make crappy commander-in-chiefs, but I think ultimately they would have no choice to respond with force to that sort of attack.

I also don't think a homeland attack is probable, frankly.

What is more likely to happen is that with the perception that the President isn't going to pursue any sort of aggressive foreign policy, all of the world's bad actors (Iran, China, Russia, North Korea, etc) will feel free to pursue whatever aggressive policies they like (eg building nukes, seizing Taiwan, etc, etc).

Again, you don't have to actually *BE* a tough guy to be Commander in Chief, but you have to at least project the PERCEPTION that you're willing to use force if necessary.

Saying things like you're going to meet with any pissant dictator no matter what, or that you aren't going to use the US nuclear arsenal under any circumstances, is inviting a disaster.

Good question. When people become that rich, then money doesn't matter so much anymore and they tend to spend all their effort gaining power in order to build a legacy that will outlast them. No one makes statues of people just because they were rich. Soros wants to reshape the course of history.

On the other hand, I still have problems with the "constant wound" remark about the Palestinian -Israeli conflict, since that phraseology is lifted straight out of Arabist Israel-bashing talking points.

His own words were, "I've been to 57 states, with two to go".

The exact quote was:

"It is wonderful to be back in Oregon. Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."

By my count, that's 60. In any case, the exact number isn't important. Imagine if Bush had said it. It would have confirmed for most liberals that he is an idiot. If McCain said it, they would question his aging mind. When Barack said it, it was just a slip up.

Whenever a conservative screws up, it confirms that they are a screw up. When a liberal screws up, it's an aberration.

Nope, totally different.

What happened 60-70 years ago could not happen today vis-a-vis the Jews.

I was specifically saying that if Iran had nukes, as Pakistan does, and Israel did not, then I'd take the little twerp seriously.

But Iran does NOT have nukes (yet), and Israel does.

And even if Iran does get a nuke, putting it on a missile and getting that missile to go where they want and detonate it when it should is not a walk in the park.

Besides, once Israel determines that Iran is close to having a bomb, they (Israel) will act accordingly.

I'm not saying its fair or the treatment is equitable; just that to me a stupid verbal slip by Obama doesn't by itself mean anything.

Obviously Quayle isn't an idiot for mis-spelling potato, any more than Obama is one for saying "57" when he meant "47". You can point to long lists of public gaffes by all US Presidents. . .that's what happens when the office is held by actual human beings whose every words is recorded for posterity and then held under the microscope.

Put differently, if it was wrong to get on Quayle's case, then its wrong to get on Obamas, that's all. Just because the media has a double-standard, doesn't mean I have to have one.

Now again, sure its a funny gaffe, but I don't believe for a second that Obama *actually* believes that the USA has 57 (or 60, whatever) states.

Hamas has already done some work on a new delivery system, the B'Ambulance.

Bethlehem Terror Cells Planning Large-Scale Bombing Arrested
Tuesday, November 2, 2004

Israel's security services said today they had arrested several terror cells comprised of 16 residents of Bethlehem planning a series of large-scale terror attacks in Jerusalem, HA'ARETZ reported. The cells planned to launch two pairs of suicide bombers to the Mea She'arim neighborhood in the capital, and to carry out a terror attack using an explosive-laden ambulance. Also attributed to one of the cells is a plan to attack a bus carrying worshippers to Rachel's Tomb near Bethlehem.
Based on details released today by security forces, Hamas was meant to provide the suicide bombers for the missions, while Islamic Jihad was supposed to supply the explosive devices. Some of those arrested, including the would-be suicide bombers, served in the Palestinian national security services. Among those arrested is Hamed Dar'awi, an active member in the PA's national security services, who is said to have been the planner of the ambulance attack.

Again, a nuke is not an IED, where you just press a button and it explodes. First of all, they'd have to test it to make sure it works. No way they could do that without the world knowing.

re: #418 Bob in Breckenridge

Nope, totally different.

What happened 60-70 years ago could not happen today vis-a-vis the Jews.

You're missing the point.
When Hitler wrote Mein Kampf ("Jihadi") people said LITERALLY the exact same thing as you.

"He's just a little twerp with a big mouth. He doesn't really mean all that stuff about eliminating the Jews, or building up Germany or taking over Europe and the world. He's crazy".

And the fact is, the little twerp meant every single word of it. Not only did he try to pull off just about everything he described in Mein Kampf, he ALMOST SUCCEEDED. OK, ultimately it didn't end well for Hitler, but all of the ones who poo-poohed him as a "nut" were dead-wrong (in many cases literally dead-wrong). He *WAS* a threat, a BIG threat all along.

Now, that said, what it is about Ahmedinjad that makes you think he should NOT be taken at face value, when he makes constant remarks about Israel being an illegitimate regime, a stinking corpse, and other remarks suggesting he sincerely wants to see it destroyed?

Consider also, that the Iranians have described Israel as a "one bomb" state, and have indicated that they don't care if many Iranians are killed in an Israeli counterattack.

I was specifically saying that if Iran had nukes, as Pakistan does, and Israel did not, then I'd take the little twerp seriously.

But Iran does NOT have nukes (yet), and Israel does.

So you don't take him seriously until he actually HAS the nukes he's been looking for?

Do you know how long that will take him? EXACTLY how long? And how will you know when its happened? What if it happens sooner than you think?

And even if Iran does get a nuke, putting it on a missile and getting that missile to go where they want and detonate it when it should is not a walk in the park.

Which means you should assume that unchecked its impossible or unlikely to happen?

Besides, once Israel determines that Iran is close to having a bomb, they (Israel) will act accordingly.

And what if Israel's intelligence is faulty, or its attempt to stop Iran fails? Then what?

I had not heard this until a few weeks ago. Given the mediocre performance of the NorKor 'bomb', and the last 3 Pakistani tests, it seems unlikely. As for Iran, it will have to test. re: #441 nigella

Looking closely, it's not the mistake Obama made that is the issue here, it is the reaction of the MSM to that mistake. We all heard about Dan Quayles" horrendous" blunder, so tell me where else other than the internet did you hear about Obamas"slip" of the tongue? Is that crickets I hear?

No argument, though personally since I largely avoid TV I wouldn't have heard it there anyway.

There is virtually no criticism of Obama from the mainstream media, who have "anointed" him (in nearly the literal sense) as their choice for President.

Consquently, almost ALL of the criticism of Obama is coming from the "Conservative" media (which is a few radio hosts, one TV station, and the internet).

Some of that criticism is legitimate, some of it isn't.

IMO, calling the guy "Hussein" and playing up a stupid gaffe about the number of states don't constitute substantial criticism of the guy. That stuff isn't likely to resonate among anyone objective (if there are, indeed anyone like that left).

Criticisms of the guy's voting record (the most liberal in the US Senate), his leftist foreign policy that puts him squarely in the Carter camp, his incredibly poor judgment in choosing political advisors and "spiritual mentors", and other issues that speak to his judgment and character are more important, I think.

Let's say Iran did test.

Let's say the test failed. . .would we even know about a failed nuke test? I would imagine its quite possible that we would not.

Alternatively, let's say the test succeeds. . .would it then be safe to assume that Iran couldn't IMMEDIATELY detonate more weapons (or fairly quickly assemble more working weapons)?

OK, *probably* they couldn't. . .but how certain could you be about that? I think you'd have to assume that there was at least some non-zero possibility that they did have that ability.

Then what do you do?

re: #540 looking closely

Let's say Iran did test.

Let's say the test failed. . .would we even know about a failed nuke test? I would imagine its quite possible that we would not.

Alternatively, let's say the test succeeds. . .would it then be safe to assume that Iran couldn't IMMEDIATELY detonate more weapons (or fairly quickly assemble more working weapons)?

OK, *probably* they couldn't. . .but how certain could you be about that? I think you'd have to assume that there was at least some non-zero possibility that they did have that ability.

Then what do you do?

It is a bit more complex than that. China, for instance, which is building nuke reactors like the US establishes Peace Institutes in colleges, has less than 300 bombs that they can rely on. And those are being rebuilt, constantly. Even in the USA, we cannibalize older weapons to make modern ones. The triggers, the tritium, the plutonium, etc are all issues. in the case of Iran, we are dealing with a likely bomb that they must deliver in a truck.

Obama's father abandoned him at age two. He feels a constant need to reach out to distant, powerful men and seek resolution. He takes generally directed criticism very personally. He has real unresolved issues. He has internalized these feelings and believes that his fairly privileged background is somehow similar to the American black experience, and even worse, the plight of the Palestinians. He is the product of a Kenyan alcoholic polygamous father and an American ex-pat hippie mom, raised first by his muslim step-father in Indonesia, then by his white grandparents as a prep school stoner in Hawaii, only to discover his blackness at radical Occidental College, and then in Chicago at the feet of his new father-figure Reverand Wright. He needs a therapist, not the Presidency.

McCain can go fuck himself. I've had enough.

The quotes say nothing about being willing to talk to Hamas at all. If that was the money quote, it's meaningless. The headline is utterly false unless the video confirms that he would meet with them.

OK, I just watched the video. The headline is a bald-faced lie. At no point does McCain say he'd be willing to meet with Hamas, period.

I think McCain will win if he picks the right running mate. But who is that person.

If he goes to far to the right, he will lose some of the middle ground. If he goes too far to the left, he will lose some of the RW conservatives.

I threw out the notion here a long time ago that Lieberman would be an interesting running mate for McCain. They would own the middle. But that might just invite a Paulian 3rd party run and like Ross Perot did, he would only help the Dems win.

If McCain goes too far to the right, then he will surrender the middle ground to Obama/Clinton.

The race is too close to call until we know who the running mates are.

I'm not buying that. First of all, a truck with a nuke on it would cause all sorts of warning systems the Israelis have in place to alert them. re: #504 Bob in Breckenridge

I take Ahmedinjad for exactly what he is- All talk. When he threatens Israel, he's not talking to Israel or the USA, he's talking to the muslim world.

Wasn't Hitler also "all talk" in 1925? And who was he talking to then?

Again, the comparison between Iran and Nazi Germany is laughable.

The comparison was between Hitler and the Iranian regime, and in fact, I see the analogy as especially apt, given Iran's overt moves to be a regional hegemon, its clear nuclear ambition (paralleling Germany's illegal pre-war arms buildup), and the regime's glaring anti-Semitism.

Hitler had the vast majority of Germans believing the Nazi propaganda. The vast majority of Iranians detest Ahmedinjad and the mullahs who rule Iran. Their days are numbered, and they know it.

Eventually Hitler had a large base of support, but he didn't start off that way.

Didn't you just say that Iran had an audience among the Muslim world? Do you suppose its possible that that audience or his influence could expland in time?

You say the Iranian regime is on its last legs. . .very well, who is going to throw them out of power and when?

Now to be clear, I am NOT saying that another global war akin to WWII is inevitable, or even necessarily likely. Obviously you can't draw exact parallels between the Iranian regime and the rise of Nazi Germany. But the point is the comparison doesn't have to be exact for the threat from Iran to be real, and serious.

What I AM saying is that Ahmedinejad is a clever thug, with documented ambition to expand his power, obtain nuclear weapons, and destroy Israel. If left to his own devices, I see no reason whatever to believe he's not going to try to do exactly what he says he going to do.

re: #555 Killgore Trout

I think I'm willing to take the chance at this point. McCain is no better nor no worse than Obama. They're both going to raise our taxes and they're both going to appease terrorists. Unless someone can find that this clip is out of context or fake I'll take my chances with Obama. There's not a shred of difference between the two.

That's simply incorrect (and its frankly the kind of BS being pushed by numbnuts like Rush). McCain may not be the poster child for Conservatism, but there are pretty wide gap differences between McCain and either of the two Dem Candidates. Their voting records are miles apart.

McCain is running on a platform to LOWER taxes. He wants to maintain the Bush tax cuts, and decrease the corporate income tax.

Now whether he can actually pull this off in a strong Dem majority Congress is another matter, but I do believe he'll try (and he'll probably succeed in the first thing, if not the second).

But have no doubt whatever, that Obama would SUCCEED in the most massive tax increase in American history after reversing the Bush tax cuts, then increasing them past pre-Bush levels (as he promises to do).

Another massive difference is in likely US Supreme Court nominees. With Obama, you can expect nothing less than the most liberal possible appointees.

McCain will at least TRY for conservative appointees, though his hands will be somewhat bound in getting them by the Dem majority Congress. But that would be true no matter WHO was President, even if you resurrected Reagan from the dead

Lastly, which one of the candidates joked about bombing Iran? Of the three of them, which of the three do you think would be most likely to use military force to stop Iran from getting a bomb? Which one of the three do you think might actually do ANYTHING to stop it from happening?

You're making the same mistake others have. This is NOT 1933, nor 1925. Back then governments could control what was allowed to be fed to the masses via newspapers or radios.
The mullahs have attempted to crack down on internet cafes in Iran, but for every one they shut down 3 others open with out their knowledge. And you have to remember that the majority of Iranians are under 25 and love the USA, and detest their government.

I'm talking about ISRAEL! Not the USA, Canada, UK, etc. The Israelis tend to take security a little more seriously (with good reason) than our country or those other countries.
Ever fly on El Al as compared to American Airlines, British Airways, or Air Canada? Notice any difference when trying to board an El Al aircraft?

Sorry for a late response, (I was responding to some folks on the California thread from earlier)

I think your right. For those of us who have invested the time to actually scrutinized this guys record, it would seem near impossible he should be where he is now.

IMO, one of the telling aspects of his character, is just like Bill, he does not handle criticism well. He loses his cool.

This would almost have to certainly manifest itself, if someone like a John Stossel, or halfway leaning investigator really wanted to review his connections.

I do find at times, especially when I peruse Drudge and see the someone estimating a Republic loss of 70 plus seats it can be depressing. Parsing this with the thought of Obama actually getting parked on Pennsylvania Avenue, produces fear.

I hope you are correct. There is a part of me that says, with all of his baggage, there could be no way for him to get in, it's way too obvious.

But at times, I still wonder, how the hell did he get to the point where he is at now?

re: #617 Pawn of the Oppressor

What happens to dirty laundry when the media carries water to it?

What happens to dirty laundry when half of this country is dying to cash in on white guilt and vote for somebody brown just because he's there?

Never underestimate the stupidity of Americans in large groups. We had Carter, we had Clinton, and now we're going to f-cking do it again.

Different presidential races, different times. The internet media was a non-entity then, today there are thousands of people who will be monitoring the race. You can look that the positives and the negatives all you want, but when it comes down to marking the ballot, the people will go for the person that they believe they can trust to not sell our country down the river.

The one thing the MSM has persistently underestimated in this race is the power of the people. I trust that we will make the right choice. There's way too much at stake here. Even the dems know full well that they've worn bush hatred for so long that their arguments have gone stale. Obama is clearly identified as the white shining knight in new armor, but it's getting rustier all the time.

Twenty years ago that wouldn't have been the case, we'd have bought the koolaid and made the horrible choice. Even if we think we don't have any great or good choices, we have a better one. And a lot of people will know that to be true.

JFK brought us closer to all-out nuclear war than any president before or since. If we had the sources of information then that we have now, he might not have been elected. I'm not claiming he was a horrible president, but nobody can compare Obama to JFK. He's not close to being in that class. And that along with his dirty laundry, his arrogance, and his refusal to truly open up to the American people will doom him.

McCain is running on a platform to LOWER taxes. He wants to maintain the Bush tax cuts, and decrease the corporate income tax.

McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts and voted against renewing them. He's not going to make them permanent. He's a man of principle. He's never seen a tax hike he didn't like. You have to be able to distinguish between campaign promises and reality.

Yep, and they'll just drive that truck right into the middle of Israel, push a button, and KABOOM!, right?
I'm not buying that. First of all, a truck with a nuke on it would cause all sorts of warning systems the Israelis have in place to alert them. They might be able to hide the nuke on the truck, but the various instruments I'm certain Israel has all over its borders would detect a radioactive presence.

Iran has no problem stocking missles in Southern Lebanon via its proxy Hizb'Allah, only 130 miles from Tel Aviv and only about 20 miles from Haifa.

Remember Israel wasn't able to prevent Hizb'Allah soldiers from literally sneaking across the border into Israel and kidnapping two Israeli soldiers, and Hizb'Allah built secret bunkers right up against the Israeli border.

OK, now give us your takes on Clinton and Obama, two of the biggest supporters of big government and spending earmarks you could find.

McCain says he will not sign any spending bill with earmarks, period. He says he will not raise taxes. He says he will reform the methods by which we will encourage energy development, and will encourage sound commonsense practices toward making American energy independent. He wants to use state incentives to get off-shore drilling. He doesn't want drilling in ANWAR. Big deal, it's a drop in the bucket. He supports the right to life, and most conservatives do not approve of his immigration reform and border control initiatives. Big hairy deal.

He wins because he offers what people want most. When people say they want change, that's because they don't know what the hell they want. Among those who understand what is needed, there is no alternative candidate.

Frickin leftists.....I'd pay money to see a claymation of Obama v. Winston Churchill in Celebrity Deathmatch.

I've heard all these obamaniks talk about how evil Bush is, how he is a war criminal and how we kept a dialog open with the Russians during the cold war.

No one has failed to mention that the Russians, like us, did not want to suffer their own nuclear annihilation. Despite our differing political ideologies, they were rational thinking people to this degree.

Mr. Dinnerjacket, Hezbollah, Hamas, PIJ, these groups and people are not rational thinking, therefore they cannot engage in a rational discussion. They hate us on a deep religious level, they believe that it is their religious duty or Jihad, to kill us.

You know, they can argue all they want about whether Bush meant to jab Obama this morning, but for such a liberal poobah, what would Obama say to a man who told an audience at Columbia that there were no homosexuals in Iran? A man who denies the greatest act of mass murder to ever occur in modern history ever took place, a man whose country's courts have a fetish for hanging people and thee leader of a country that is actively trying to kill our own military personnel?

You know, I think Obama is steering a dangerous path and the comparisons to Neville Chamberlin are more than apt. I think that some democrats may be a bit frightened that Obama is the putative nominee.

re: #622 Bob in Breckenridge

You're making the same mistake others have. This is NOT 1933, nor 1925. Back then governments could control what was allowed to be fed to the masses via newspapers or radios.
The mullahs have attempted to crack down on internet cafes in Iran, but for every one they shut down 3 others open with out their knowledge. And you have to remember that the majority of Iranians are under 25 and love the USA, and detest their government.

And what "mistake" have I made?

Hitler had no control over ANY gov't in 1925. He was in prison at the time and most of the country thought he was a kook. In fact, Hitler only won 30% of the electorate in the vote that ultimately led to him seizing power, and the Nazi Party never won more than 37% of the vote. In fact Hitler NEVER had majority support, not even close.

Regardless, since when does a gov't need majority support to develop or launch nuclear weapons?

Also, please explain how Iranian internet cafes are going to stop the Iranian mullahs from acquiring nukes and using them to expand their hegemony or destroy Israel, because I admit, I'm having trouble seeing it.

And you haven't answered a single one of my questions.

Are Iran's hardened underground bunkers and spinning centrifuges
a. "all talk"? or
b. Something OTHER than "all talk"?

Why should anyone assume that left to their own devices, the Iranian leadership isn't going to do EXACTLY what it says it is going to do?

When is this mythical second Iranian revolution going to happen and what's going to trigger it?

I thought it was very sobering.

Great article corpsman. I didn't have time to read it all right now, so I skimmed some of it. Very sound thinking there. But if Israel is threatened, it's unlikely that the USA won't intervene in a very strong way. Not even Iran's military can even come close to challenging our warpower, and Syria and Co. are not even a real challenge in terms of military neutralization.

I'm sure that we will monitor this blueprint carefully for signs of predictable escalation, and with prior warning ignored, will escalate in kind. I cannot even fathom a US that won't protect Israel from annihilation, absolutely nothing outside our borders could possibly be more damaging to us from an international perspective.

Keep the positive thoughts, in spite of the alarming details. I worry all the time about this too. Those who laugh at Ahmadinejad may not have the last laugh. He acts crazy, but he's smart as a fox.

So when Obama promises to raise taxes, that's a fiction, but when McCain promises to maintain the status quo, that's a lie?

If McCain is a "man of principle" then why can't you take him at his word that he's going to fix the Bush tax cuts?

While its true that he hasn't always been consistently for LOWERING taxes, its unfair to characterize McCain as a person who "hasn't seen a tax hike he didn't like" considering that in his 20+ years in Congress the only tax he's ever voted to increase has been on cigarettes.

Here is a pretty good (and critical) overview of McCain's economic record:

[Link: www.clubforgrowth.org...]

Summing up briefly, he's been mostly against tax increases AND tax cuts, but pro-free trade and anti-waste.

Memphis used to be a grand ol' southern city, but has decayed a lot under the scum and corruption of the Ford family and their ilk. I believe the beauty and grace could return someday, but that would be under new and very different leadership (which doesn't seem likely any time soon).

This guy exhibits all the characteristics of a typically deranged and psychotic cult leader. The concept of someone hidden, a saviour who will show himself at the right moment is an old chestnut among the superstitious, apocalyptic and esoteric loonies. And it always ends badly....for the cult. Iran needs some heavy duty cult busting treatment from the inside and the West should be working on this by supporting what subversives there are within their society. And bombarding them with satellite Radio free Iran. What do the CIA do these days? Play tiddlywinks? Tupperware parties? Knitting and crochet groups?

Does anyone know on what date the birthday of the hidden Imam falls this year? Every year I think that Ahmadinejad will launch a nuclear attack on Israel on that date. I want to tell relatives to not plan their trip to Israel to include that date. This year being Israel's 60'th birthday, I could see him trying it this year. Hopefully Israel thinks the same way I do and hopefully their plans are to not allow him to reach nuclear capability and missile capability by that date.

I've decided that 2008 is most likely safe on that issue.
