It's open, and I'm here.

Sort of.

2 Timbre  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:09:15pm

It's like looking down a row of mirrors...

3 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:09:41pm

In college, I was "the scruffy blonde." Now I'm one of the "scruffy no-names".

Is this an improvement?

4 MandyManners  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:09:58pm

re: #1 Dianna

It's open, and I'm here.

Sort of.

Same here. Mr. Sandman is elusive tonight.

5 rawmuse  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:10:02pm

Dang, it is hot tonight.

6 Timbre  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:10:12pm

What happened to the scruffy bunch of no names?

7 Sharmuta  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:10:15pm

Some of us are even nobody to this day.

8 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:10:34pm

The dogs are walked, the garbage is out, but it's still too hot to sleep.

9 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:11:05pm

re: #7 Sharmuta

You're here, aren't you?

Therefore, you are definitely somebody.

10 pat  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:11:14pm

It's Thursday, and i am open. Hey Dianna, looking for action? ;)

11 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:11:57pm

re: #5 rawmuse

It is nasty, isn't it?

There's a halo around the moon, so there may be rain in the offing.

12 The Other Les  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:12:04pm

Everyone have fun tonight.

13 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:12:19pm

re: #10 pat

Always.

What sort are you proposing?

14 rawmuse  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:13:16pm

re: #11 Dianna

I take my physical on Saturday. I hope they let me take it early before the temps get high. Got to run 2 miles.

15 MandyManners  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:13:53pm

What's this "heat" y'all are talking about?

16 stymie  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:13:54pm

I have freaks in my woodwork and bats in my belfry.

17 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:14:03pm

re: #12 The Other Les

No wang chunging! Eeep!

I keep thinking I'd forgotten that band, but it keeps recurring, sort of like those really weird dreams about falling.

I never forgot or forgave that line about "and in her mouth an amethyst".

18 rawmuse  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:14:26pm

I was out running today with the dog, and he fell out. He is an all black dog. It occurred to me he was like a solar collector with hair.

19 Sharmuta  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:14:55pm

re: #9 Dianna

You're nobody unless somebody loves you.

20 Dianna  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:15:01pm

re: #14 rawmuse

In SF? If it's above 80, people faint in the streets! San Franciscans cannot be expected to run 2 miles in this heat!

21 zombie  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:15:03pm

So, after we nuked Mecca, the Muzzlims there mutated and evolved to become gay men. One said to the other, "I demand the right to get married!" The other replied, "But then I won't be able to exercise my God-given right to an abortion!" So instead they sat down and watched a DVD of The Passion of the Christ and were inspired by it to uplug their sister from the life-support system.

83 degrees right now in SF. All my fans are on. We have no air conditioning. You usually don't need it here.

49 rawmuse  Thu, May 15, 2008 9:19:39pm

Usually when it gets real hot in the valley (around Sacramento) it creates a hot air updraft, and the fog comes in from the ocean.

I could use a little of that. Please.

re: #43 MandyManners

Nah.

Back in 2005, we had a few 90 degree days in February. We were all dreading the summer, and it turned out to be rather cool.

On the other hand, the weekend of July 20-22 in 2006 was utterly ghastly. I know; I was moving that weekend. It lives in my memory.

I have always preached that the number of bumper stickers on a vehicle is directly proportional to how nutty the driver is. But I forgot to consider it might be a borrowed vehicle.

People get weird, and this is on-line, so you can't possibly see it happening. If we could constantly take everyone's emotional temperature, maybe we could tell, and head off trouble at the pass, but I have no idea how you could possibly be expected to do so as things stand.

If it's any comfort, I deeply appreciate this place, and all your work.

Senate panel retains oil-shale moratorium

The Senate Appropriations Committee today narrowly defeated Sen. Wayne Allard's attempt to end a moratorium related to oil shale development in Colorado.

It was a big day for Colorado energy issues on Capitol Hill as Gov. Bill Ritter testified before a senate committee asking lawmakers to move cautiously on oil-shale development until more is known about the environmental impact and other issues.

Oil exploration?

So, after we nuked Mecca, the Muzzlims there mutated and evolved to become gay men. One said to the other, "I demand the right to get married!" The other replied, "But then I won't be able to exercise my God-given right to an abortion!" So instead they sat down and watched a DVD of The Passion of the Christ and were inspired by it to uplug their sister from the life-support system.

And then the Albanians expelled all the Serbs from Serbia while the Serbs expelled all the Albanians from Kosovo. Nick Griffin of the BNP, when reporters reached him for a comment, admitted that he was, in fact, a very short man with an undersized penis.

I agree. That's why I think the ultra left eco-freaks are worse than OPEC. At least OPEC is willing to get the stuff out of the ground and sell it on the world market. The eco-freaks would stop all of our oil use tomorrow if they could do it. I happen to believe that the welfare of the human population is of greater importance than that of the animal and plant population. I'm all for development of alternative modes of transportation and even alternative fuels that don't involve starving people to death to supply. But I say let the free market system determine the pace at which those technologies come about instead of using the government to cram it down our throats.

Yes, forward. I'm not sure if I could do it in a car with anti-lock brakes. (Now I'll have to go look that up).

I used to practice the backwards 180 on tractors, it helps to see all of the wheels, and remember what route they take during the spin.

Its kinda like how a wagon steers, or a cart that has one set of fixed wheels...

266 karmic_inquisitor  Thu, May 15, 2008 10:13:16pm

FWIW, here is what i have learned on the whole "marriage as a right" thing ...

Marriage is recognized as a right under the US Constitution and was pretty much delineated in Loving v. Virginia when inter racial marriage bans were ruled unconstitutional.

The subsequent Universal Declaration of Human Rights also places marriage as a human right.

Just the same, states place some constraints on marriage based on consent/capacity (are the people of sound mind and willingly entering the marriage), age, and blood relationship of the parties being married.

So my prior concern (expressed on the Gay Marriage thread) that the State of California had created a right out of a privilege is wrong.

They did give the right more "space" by asserting the broader concept that one is free to establish family relationships, and that marriage falls under that right.

I was also wrong on the issue of the California Supreme Court over turning an amendment - prop 22 was not proposed or passed as a constitutional amendment (which is odd as many propositions in California are so that the judiciary cannot overturn them).

Anyway - the issue will now smolder as a new proposition is put together to amend the constitution and reverse the effect of today's ruling. I am against judicial activism but will vote against the proposition because (as stated before) I don't have a problem with gay marriage, just the judicial fiat that brought it about.

Crown Vic

272 slokat  Thu, May 15, 2008 10:28:48pm

re: #271 rawmuse

So you're dealing with body roll & length.

If you favor drivers side, then your left front wheel is in control & is taking the route that you have to picture in your sleep.

Does the Crown Vic power out or steer out, at the end? (I think it's heavy enough for the moment to steer out & powerful enough to power out) Which do you do?

273 slokat  Thu, May 15, 2008 10:29:16pm

274 rawmuse  Thu, May 15, 2008 10:36:35pm

re: #272 slokat

I have been applying the brake while steering right (which makes the car go left). Got to get it up to about 40-45 or so to make it spin 180.

It's not my car, and I got a retired cop pal helping me out.

I can do it, but I don't like the way my heart beats outside of my rib cage right now. ;)

275 slokat  Thu, May 15, 2008 10:42:22pm

re: #274 rawmuse

that's the body roll telling your inner ear that you are falling.

I'd like to say something about China. Its not very nice. -

I’ve been wishing ill on China for many years. Really ever since the UK had to cede Hong Kong back to the Chinese commies some years ago. Until then China was a big red shit hole with no future.

China has been doing peachy since by absorbing cheap labor, selling cheap shit to us and stealing/buying (not so cheap) top secret info and copy rights at their whim.

Fucking us in the ass at every turn.

Add on some bond market leverage and we got a problem.

Then came the Beijing 2008 Olympics award. Absurd in my view as it seemed to me to be akin to the 1936 Olympics in Germany. But the IOC Eurotards went and did it anyway.
My hopes then became for a million Nork refugees to spontaneously migrate due West and present the Chinese military a stark choice in full view - right about now. That still could happen, but it hasn’t.

What IS happening is a mega earthquake that has likely killed 70,000 people. They had an 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 1976 that killed 250,000. This one was 7.9 and might go that high.

Sorry, but I don’t have much sympathy for China. The angry/offended Chinese Nationalists waving Chi-Com flags in San Fran during the hide-the-olympic-torch circus was telling.

And China is squatting on hundreds of billions of US Dollars. You got an Army China, use it for good.
