Osama Bin Dead for a Long Time

Fri, May 16, 2008 at 9:03:02 am PDT

Yep, another audiotape. He’s dead, folks. Has been for a long time. Bin Laden: Palestinian cause fuels war.

This propaganda is intended for the American left, who are already getting more and more open about their hatred of Israel and their desire to appease radical Islamists. It reinforces the message that if they elect Obama and throw Israel to the crocodile, it will eat them last.

CAIRO, Egypt - Osama bin Laden said in a new audio recording released Friday that al-Qaida will continue its holy war against Israel and its allies until it liberates Palestine.

The terrorist leader’s third statement this year came as President Bush was wrapping up his visit to Israel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jewish state.

Bin Laden said the fight for the Palestinian cause was the most important factor driving al-Qaida’s war with the West and fueled 19 Muslims to carry out the suicide attacks against the U.S. on September 11.

“To Western nations ... this speech is to understand the core reason of the war between our civilization and your civilizations. I mean the Palestinian cause,” said bin Laden in the close to 10 minute audiotape.

“The Palestinian cause is the major issue for my (Islamic) nation. It was an important element in fueling me from the beginning and the 19 others with a great motive to fight for those subjected to injustice and the oppressed,” added bin Laden.

UPDATE at 5/16/08 9:09:43 am:

Sure enough, CBS News is promoting the exact line of thinking I described above:

Mr. Bush’s embrace of Israel at a time when the Palestinians were mourning was bound to further harm the tainted U.S. image in the Palestinian areas and across the Arab world.

My mom couldn't tell my brother and I apart on the phone.

When these audiotapes first started appearing, there was much speculation that the voice was that of Sa'ad BL, his son, who allegedly sounded like dear old dead dad.

No one speculates or even mentions this anymore, for some reason.

Maybe it's because at the time, the prevailing wisdom was that Sa'ad was safely encamped with his pals in Iran.

Dear Osama

Last night, I had a wonderful meal at Ruths' Criss SteakHouse. Salad, Shrimp Cocktail, an amazing steak, loaded baked potato, fresh broccoli. Of course, several wonderful Vodka martinis. Finished the night with a sinful chocolate mousse (my wife opted for the cheesecake ,, amazing!)

After, I went home and watched the game on my HI DEF 45 inch flatscreen TV. Upon retiring to my bedroom I lay down on my kingsized bed with the brand new sleep number mattress

So about you ,,, how was the cave last night ?

Then it was the imperialist army in Iraq.
Now it's all about the Joooooooooos.

31 jcm  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:10:31am

I would venture a guess he made a bunch of tapes exhorting the faithful. This archive would serve as the core of the new releases. Cut and paste relevant portions together, add in an impersonator for topical references.

If OBL were alive he's too egotistical not to rub it in our faces. There would be video with a verifiable current artifact, newspaper etc...

32 Iron Fist  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:10:33am

re: #3 Killgore Trout,

Or canned tapes made before he croaked. If he weren't dead, how hard would it be to prove? Simply do a video of him holding a copy of today's NYT while he spews his line of bullshit, and you're pretty much there. Talk in specifics. Reach out to Obama (who was nobody in 2001).

There are litterally hundreds of ways that could be done. Yet he does none of them. No, Osama is dead.

Interesting news item that ties into the theme : the biggest "buzz-generating" film at the Cannes Film Festival is 'Waltz for Bashir", an animated film made by an Israeli that deals with the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon 1982.

For those who don't recall, Christian Lebanese Arabs killed PLO (in retaliation for PLO massacres of Christian Arabs, but that part is conveniently ignored universally) , and the world put all the blame on Israel, which had military control of the area.

Logically, a career-oriented, non-patriotic Israeli filmmaker might cynically reason that europe would ignore any film that failed to put Israel into a bad light, so he chose his theme well.

For example, you wouldn't want to submit to Cannes any kind of film that dealt with, say, Israeli ( or American ) soldiers who were crippled as a result of wounds inflicted by terrorists in Lebanon ( or Iraq ) where the rules of engagement forced them to endanger their own safety in order to give an extra margin of safety to "civilians" who may or may not be armed terrorists.

Whether OBL is alive or dead is irrelevant at this point. His effectiveness since 9/11 had been zero. If he were proven to be dead, he would simply be another martyr to them. Alive, he is a coward bravely hiding from the entire world for the last 6+ years.

Any attack harming Al Qaeda is a hit against him. Keep dismantling his organization and supporters and taking the fight to them. Braves speaches have a hollow ring when your forces are routinely annihilated by a superior opponent.

You have to comment on the fact that this "mourning" is the Naqba. The Palestinians declared their Naqba "mourning" festival to be the day which celebrates Israel's birth.

Just postulating.

US intelligence services locate a high value target. Since he is a fairly isolated local they decide to leave him be. However they can monitor who comes and goes, and intercept the messengers and messages.

While offing the high value target is satisfying, and in some cases a better option. I can easily envision a scenario where knowing where a target is and observing is much more valuable in both tactical and strategic planning.

I think he is now dead, but wonder if part of the success in prevent a major AQ operation might be related to very good intel. The kind we'll read about 50 years from now.

Bin Laden said the fight for the Palestinian cause was the most important factor driving al-Qaida’s war with the West and fueled 19 Muslims to carry out the suicide attacks against the U.S. on September 11.

That's not what he said before the attacks. But I wouldn't expect AP to point that out.

The son of a Saudi Arabian businessman, bin Laden has called for a Muslim jihad, or holy war, against the United States. He has encouraged Muslims to kill all the Americans -- civilian or military -- they can.

His rage stems from the decision by Saudi Arabia to allow the United States to use the country as a staging area for attacks on Iraqi forces in Kuwait and Iraq. After the victory, the U.S. military presence became permanent.

To fundamentalists like bin Laden, the U.S. presence is anathema because Saudi Arabia is home to "the two most holy places" in Islam -- Mecca and Medina. Mecca is the birthplace of Mohammed and the location of the Great Mosque of Mecca, considered by Muslims to be the most sacred spot on Earth.

Nonviolent Fascism, Violent Anti-Fascism

This combination of national pride, rightist politics, language purity and racially tinged opposition to big-city mores and immigration is a classic formula these days in modern Europe, a kind of nonviolent fascism.
....
Leaders of the far-right Sweden Democrats live under constant threat of violence, according to new report from the Swedish security service Säpo. Säpo reports that it receives an average of 4.5 reports per month of cases of threats made to Sweden's district and county councillors. The threats are systematic, often involve violence, and come from autonomous groups across Sweden.

The overall strategy and approach needs to be followed. The issue is not just al-Qaeda. If al-Qaeda disappears entirely, the islamofascist movement will continue using other groups that are following this direction, new groups following this direction, and with the same old state sponsors and enablers (less 2).

The latter part is what the left and Obama (who is now wearing a flag pin as he addresses the Bush 'attack' on his strategy) do not get. Talking and negotiating with groups or nations that do not seek to talk or negotiate unless it is the terms of our surrender accomplishes nothing.

Obama's 'outrage' on this...is yet another big mistake by the left.

127 lawhawk  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:26:24am

One has to seriously wonder why Osama keeps making audio tapes, rather than video. The answer is all too apparent.

It's far easier to fake or produce audio than video. It isn't a function of there being a difficulty in getting video, because cheap video recorders are so easily obtained, and getting those videos to their usual distribution isn't any more difficult than getting audio out - it's likely on a flash card or other similarly small object.

The audio masks the real reason that you don't get to see Osama these days.

He's dead. Al Qaeda just can't admit it - and the CIA has no reason to confirm - perhaps they figure that leaving the question ambiguous leads to more intel or prevents certain plans from being set in motion (a more suspect reason - that it would be politically motivated to keep hushed up is unlikely since Osama's death would be welcomed by most quarters, except the usual suspects, who would immediately call for pullouts of Iraq, Afghanistan, and a cessation fo the WoT despite the fact that the war is more than about just one man).

That's why you get the disembodied voice, rather than straight video of Osama in action.

166 Kenneth  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:35:26am

Point of fact:

The creation of Israel in 1948 was not the Nakba. The declaration of the state of Israel did not take any land away from the Arab population. The UN resolution which partitioned Palestine gave the Palestinian Arabs the right to create a their own state, however, the Arabs chose not to do that. Instead they chose to attack the new state of Israel and destroy it. They had no plans to create an independant Arab state in its place. The Syrians, Jordanians, Lebanese & Egyptians intended to divide the land amongst them.

But they lost the war & they failed to exterminate the Jews. The Palestinian Arabs lost their land as a result of their failed war, not as a result of the creation of Israel.

The true meaning of the Nakba is in fact the failure of the Arabs to destroy Israel. Their "Nakba" is their failure to complete the Jewish holocaust. That is what the Arabs mourn.

the improvement of the purported 'image' of the U.S. (in the minds of Rageboy and his ilk) will bring to us.

The idea keeps getting trotted out that we have to be 'liked,' a state which has doubtful utility in international relations. Why just give in to whatever X nation or interest group wishes, to improve our image?

Turn it around. I'd prefer that they improve their image in our eyes.

Charles, Kilgore, Thanos, Honorary Yooper,

Those people are getting ready to have another conference:

Baron Bodissey is taking some kind of leadership position:

Watch 'em get angry at me for calling them "those people." I mean it only in the most groupthink sense of the term. Those friggin' tribalists. They want to fight the Jihad (which is Tribalistic) with a tribalist mentality. Western Civilization be damned. We're going back to the Dark Ages, if they have anything to say about it.

That's the appeasement plan for America.

#166 Kenneth,

Yep.

And CBS demands respect for the Naqba.

Yet he wins popularity contests and polls ahead of our righteous President.

180 Pastorius  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:41:49am

Tribalism is paganism, by the way, my friends. Tribalism is by blood. Judeo-Christian civilization is built on ideas. The Bible says that God spoke creation into existence. All the universe is contained in the Torah. The Word is what carries us, not blood. In fact, it is our blood which needs propiation from innocent sacrifice.

Ideas (words) carry us forward. Blood carries us back into the animalistic, the Pagan.

181 Killgore Trout  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:42:43am

re: #175 Pastorius

Interesting. Baron just returned from an anti-jihad conference in Vienna. I can't find any mention of who was there. Maybe your links are related.

182 Pastorius  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:43:17am

I consider the philosophies of tribalists to be not only racist, but Pagan and anti-Semitic and anti-Christian.

183 Pastorius  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:43:54am

181, Kilgore,
Maybe I'm slow on the uptake. I don't read their site very often anymore.

re: #166 Kenneth

The true meaning of the Nakba is in fact the failure of the Arabs to destroy Israel. Their "Nakba" is their failure to complete the Jewish holocaust. That is what the Arabs mourn.

And CBS thinks the President of the United States should bemourning with them.
Obscene.

He would probably score an oscar from Hollywood for Best Short subject or something.

re: #165 realwest

The loss of OBL must be a real morale killer to AQ since they are missing on a huge propaganda opportunity if they do announce it. I would venture to guess that there are a majority of American's (those who get their news from the MSM and the 22 minute propaganda blurbs known as the SeeBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, ABC World News Tonight, and of course, the 'winner' of them all, The Daily Show, believe that if OBL is dead, the war on terror is over.

If AQ announces it, it just adds more people ready to declare 'victory' and stop the war on terror, letting islamofascism off the hook.

I think the President of the United States should be showing the video of the Palestinians literally dancing in the street after 9/11.

The images of 9/11 and those who had to leap to avoid the heat / flames should also be shown on a regular basis to remind us of who we are fighting. But that doesn't fit the agenda of the media or Hollywood.

re: #187 Athos Well yes and no - yes you're right about folks saying the WoT is over.
No because Osama didn't die fighting the infidels and can't be declared a martyr AND because it would prove that Al-Q has been lying about Osama for many years now.

192 Dad O' Blondes  Fri, May 16, 2008 9:53:32am

re: #41 Charles

The CIA identifies his voice on the audiotape every time because it's a much smarter policy to leave it an open question.

Agreed.

Why give them another martyr?

Further, keeping the jihadis guessing about what we know and/or don't know is part of the game.

These little fuckers musta' studied Nazi propaganda.

Yep - and it is a very interesting study, as Goebbels was and still is the unsurpassed master of it all.
So in order to fight this in its modern guise, we need to know how it was done then.
Especially critical is the use of words - thats where the wannabe fascists and the real anti-semites always slip up.

Too right!
And lets be quite clear about this: in regard to propaganda and in techniques as to brainwashing people and making them willing slaves, Hitler and Co had no equals - Stalin and the rest of the communists were crude pretenders.

Don't ever forget that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was a very valued guest and companion of Hitler ... and he was never indited for that ...

It takes very little effort (although much time), to record potential future events in the past-tense voice on an audio/video tape.

Accurately reporting events that occurred in the past tense is not evidence of being alive.

215 wanumba  Fri, May 16, 2008 5:21:22pm

Ugh. Osama Bin Laden rantings are going to be with us forever. He's moved into that curious plane of existance that Elvis enjoys. Forever the last age we saw him as, randomly popping up here and there. Occasionally bestowing a new Mercedes, perhaps a sleek camel on a lucky dude. Bin Laden's target audience will not care about the oddities of someone pontificating about current events who by quick calculation must be 136 years old.
