Obama: I Will Engage in Direct Talks with Iran

Fri, May 16, 2008 at 11:21:15 am PDT

Barack Obama just reiterated that he will personally engage in “direct talks” with Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism, as he complained bitterly about President Bush’s speech in Israel.

Obama and the Democrats are making a big mistake with this whining, crybaby approach; I hope he continues down this road.

There was some anticipation that someone might say you know its an expression of rebuke to former President Carter for having met with Hamas. that was something that was anticipated but no one wrote about it or raised it."

69 Tigger2005  Fri, May 16, 2008 11:34:20am

Why, Charles?

I used to believe that as a whole, my fellow countrymen were far too intelligent to elect someone like Obama.

I have a great deal less faith in America's people today to do the right thing.

There are still plenty of good people, but they are being slowly overwhelmed by people with a third world mentality, a dependence on big government, an inability to think logically.

And the good people are paralyzed, unable to act effectively. They elect leaders who they think will act in their interests and those leaders betray them.

I don't even know how to begin turning it around. I don't know how to begin changing people's minds when their entire worldview, their entire perception of history, America, EVERYTHING, is so different from mine, when it rests on completely different foundations.

I know, and even like, many people who seem like Americans. They look like Americans, they act like Americans. But when you dig a little deeper, they are nothing at all like Americans.

Sort of riffing from the earlier Obamination thread, but still mostly on-topic...

That bit on BHO's website about talking to Iran about that country's "troubling behavior" is a devastating insult to the memory of the 280-plus Marines slaughtered in Beirut in 1983 by an Iranian-supplied truck bomb. Not to mention Khobar Towers in 1996--the evidence there points to local Shi'a Muslims directed by Iran too.

"Troubling behavior"?! WTF?!

I sincerely believe that they think he's the Messiah, and are certain that if Obambi talks to every thug who wants to literally and contextually behead Americans, a miracle will happen, and all the evil in the world will magically disappear, and the world will suddenly be awash with harmless kumbaya nations that only want to hold hand with the world and sing the old coke theme song.

That is not so difficult when you have a large population of youngsters who know absolutely no history prior to when they were in eighth grade and do not know how to think, let alone engage in critical evaluation.

And that, my friends, is a very grim prospect.

It is indeed - it gave us 11 years of Nulabour in Great Britain, with the results you all know (the response to 9/11 and the Iraq ad Afghanistan War excepted, and even there - how that lot treats our troups is too disgusting for words!) - a grim warning for all.

So, not only is he whining about Bush calling out appeasers - a statement not aimed solely at Obama, but at the appeasers around the world - but he goes ahead and reiterates his statement that he'd meet with the Iranians without preconditions.

Idiot. From a purely political breakdown, Obama's playing right into GOP hands (or Hillary if you're still on the fence), because he's showing that he is indeed an appeaser.

Even bigger idiots? Those who think that Obama knows the first thing about foreign policy.

Those who nonchalantly think that the US will survive four years of an Obama administration aren't paying attention. This isn't mere hyperbole, but consider what we're facing - a regime in Iran that isn't deterred by force, and instead would welcome a nuclear attack on its own soil after lobbing nukes at its enemies because of the fulfillment of an apocalyptic religious vision. Iran wants nukes, and is clearly doing everything imaginable to obtain them.

We're giving nuclear materials to Saudi Arabia because we'd rather see the Saudis go toe to toe with teh Iranians than the Israelis, but the sad truth is that Israel and the US will likely have to go deal with the mad mullahs in Iran before long. Obama wont do it. Bill Clinton wouldn't go toe to toe with al Qaeda, so what makes you think that Obama would go after Iran should it engage in acts of war against the US directly or via Hamas, Hizbullah, or any other proxy?

Obama will come home after one of those meetings declaring peace in our time and that we've got peace. The cost? Well, probably Iraq, Kuwait, access to the Gulf, and Israel for good measure. But hey, we wont have the US in a war. Never mind that oil prices would probably double again what our current prices are.

I agree but think there is another equally important element, if not more important.

The left bristles when we call them anti-American or question their patriotism, but at the heart of all their issues is the belief that the ills of the world are our fault, and if WE stop fighting/doing evil, the problems are over.

They think Obama will stop all those "bad" foreign "policies" that they are sure we have but cannot name in specifics.

163 Pawn of the Oppressor  Fri, May 16, 2008 11:54:35am

The notion of appeasement gets a reaction from guys like Obie because the very concept is a direct attack against his entire worldview.

In order to have "appeasement", you need the following:

1. You have to make an absolute judgement of "right" vs. "wrong"
2. You have to stand for something
3. You have to be willing to fight for that something.

All of these things are kryptonite for modern leftist Democrats.

To a Democrat, calling out appeasers is like showing a Catholic hard evidence that Jesus was a lesbian woman who practiced Wicca. It's not just offensive, it's flat-out terrifying. When BHO says Evil Kowboy Boosh is practicing the "politics of fear", it's BHO's fears we're talking about, not the electorate's.

Nazamuddin Mohammidy was one of a group who took over an internal Afghan flight in 2000 and landed it in the UK, where they threatened to kill those on board unless they were granted asylum.

Rahimian: Hizbollah proved Israel's vincibility
Beijing, May 16, IRNA

Iran-Palestine-Rahimian
Hizbollah proved vincibility of the Zionist regime of Israel by its heroic resistance which led to humiliating defeat of the Zionist enemy.

"Today we are witnessing destabilization of the Quds occupying regime thanks to the path laid by the late Imam Khomeini and the goal for annihilation of Israel has been met by 50 percent," said leadership representative at the Islamic Revolution Martyrs Foundation here on Thursday on the 60th anniversary of Palestine occupation.

Rahimian said, "The late Imam Khomeini had declared Israel should be wiped off the map and now we are almost approaching the point."
He said Palestine issue does not belong to the Palestinian nation and the Arab world, rather it concerns whole the world of Islam and Muslims.

Obama: let's be friends

Iran: death to the Jews!

Obama: Wow we are really communicating!

Iran: Death to the Jews!

Obama: of course I will lift sanctions, you are such nice people and been treated so badly by America. Even Clinton's apology was no abject enough: OH mighty Iran, home of the nicest, best leaders in the whole world who enjoy the 100% support of every single Iranian, and if you have to use a crane to hang any gay adolescents, I can operate the switch just don't tell Pelosi, I am so sorry for America opposing your just quest for nuclear weapons and for supporting Israel and no sending billions of aid to Hezbollah instead of Israel. America is so sorry. Would you like to hold my wife or daughters hostage or shall I send the old ones back to you.

Iran: death to the Jews!

Obama: Guys I am starting to run out of things to offer you. Shall I bomb the Saudi oilfields and make you the only mideast supplier and get the price to $500 a barrel?

Iran: Death to the Jews!

Obama: well I have to go. Yes we can!

Iran: Yes we can too!

173 lawhawk  Fri, May 16, 2008 11:55:58am

And another thing...

Obama wants us to believe that cowboy diplomacy is the wrong tact? How is it then that the Europeans, who supposedly disdained American foreign policy, have now elected pro-US leaders who are predisposed to the US foreign policy? Seems that Bush has done something right to have weathered the storm...

Then, there's one other thing on my mind from this morning.

It's a thought experiment for Obama and his fanatics:

Who attacked the US on 9/11, USS Cole, Khobar Towers, African Embassies?

If you said al Qaeda, you haven't completely drunk the kool aid and can continue... [after all, not only does the US, UN and pretty much everyone else say al Qaeda was behind those attacks, but al Qaeda itself takes credit for them.]

Where is al Qaeda operating now? [note, this isn't a difficult question, and isn't asking where al Qaeda was operating on March 1, 2003 aka pre invasion of Iraq]

If you answered countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, you've been paying attention.

So, if al Qaeda is currently operating in Iraq, how come Barack Obama wants to withdraw from Iraq immediately when we've got US forces there killing al Qaeda on a regular and ongoing basis all while denying them safe havens there?

The sputtering response will likely resort to some riff on the following: "they wouldn't be in Iraq unless we didn't invade Iraq". It completely misses the point - a regular theme among Obama folks and the left in general. The terrorists are there now, and we're killing them there now.

Obama wants to withdraw from Iraq, which undermines US national security. I'm sure he'll mutter something along the politics of fear pablum he spouts off every so often when someone has the audacity to question his politics, but the sad fact is that he doesn't have clue 1 about foreign policy, national security (ours), and what it takes to defeat our enemies. It means denying battlespace to our enemies, and staying in those locations to continue killing and defeating those enemies.

Thank you. It's sickening how fashionable it has been to get all frothingly silly over how McCain = Obama or whatever.

"Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: “Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.” We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

Some people suggest if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away. This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of the enemies of peace, and America utterly rejects it. Israel’s population may be just over 7 million. But when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because the United States of America stands with you."

By Debbie Schlussel

Barack Obama claims he's against HAMAS and Hezbollah. So why is he meeting with one of Hezbollah's most important imams and agents in America, Imam Hassan Qazwini? And why is this open anti-Semite and supporter of Israel's annihilation getting to discuss "the Arab-Israeli conflict" in a private one-on-one meeting with Obama? What was said? In order to want to talk directly with the mullahs, you have to believe a few things like

- Hezbo is a "social movement"

- You can make guys who want to steal your car and rape your wife come around to your POV with "talk"

- The mullahs legitimately represent the people of Iran

and so on.

It scares me that people will vote for Obama based solely on the fact that he is a black man. That will show the rest of the world that the USA is truly multi-cultural.

The fact that he has no clue how to run a country means nothing to them. I am also worried because the Democratic "leaders" are supposed to want the best for ALL Americans, yet their outrage yesterday was all about them. They still are not smart enough to realize that somewhere there will be a tape of the things they have said. Obama keeps showing his lack of experience everyday. His name was not mentioned but somehow he managed to take a paragraph out of a good speech and start whining about it to score political points, exactly what he accussed the President of doing. He makes Hillary look good. (ugh!)

I am tired of hearing how stupid these leftists think that people are. " No, you are wrong, I did not say that.", oh no, wait, "I was taken out of contect", oh no wait, "this is divisive politics". If your first lie doesn't fly, try another, another, etc.

Seriously, have you watched that woman carefully in an interview? She makes Hillary at her Calculatronic worst look lively and engaging by comparison.

re: #266 Pawn of the Oppressor

I don't care much about her nagging, what I want to know is what roles they play. We know all about Hillary & Bill being the Match Made In Hell between two of the biggest narcissists living, but what does it say about him that he married a whining, self-pitying, arrogant, America-hating woman with eyes that are as dead as doornails no matter what comes out of her mouth? Seriously, have you watched that woman carefully in an interview? She makes Hillary at her Calculatronic worst look lively and engaging by comparison.

"Well we should stop talking about this, it's not helping my children", she says with cold, dead eyes. WTF? My verbal response to that was unprintable...

Come now. His overt, hysterical reaction to Bush's remark shows quite clearly that Barrack Hussein Obama is every bit as narcissistic, whining, self-centered and arrogant as Michelle Obama ever thought of being. He is just one of those very quiet dangerous types instead of the loudmouth his wife is.

I think many people have attempted to talk to terrorists and their surrogates in an attempt to change their minds.

They've been rewarded with a bullet to the head.

Terrorists and their appeasers are the cancer of humanity - violently spreading their false doctrine that robs us of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Monsters, both.

Charles needs to put up the crybaby photo as a permanent feature of the site with Barack's whine of the day. Kind of like the Reuters counter.

I just bitched out someone from McCain's campaign who called me on my cell phone asking for money. I told him I sent the campaign $100 on Tuesday, but after McCain's bogus global warming speech and his continual insulting of the conservative base I am fresh out of generosity. I suggested he give the campaign that message. He said he's been hearing that from a lot of people.

If McCain backs off from this particular fight, I'm done. I'll be ready to relax, sit back and watch Barack facilitate a couple of genocides (which he'll promptly blame on Bush).

re: #266 Pawn of the Oppressor

I've asked myself the same thing -- what does Obama see in his wife? They seem woefully mismatched. It's clear he's a henpecked husband at the very least. I mean she whines to a national audience about the fact that he leaves his dirty socks lying around, for god's sake! Why is that anyone's business, exactly?

My theory is that he's a glutton for punishment (i.e., masochist). Which would also explain his fondness for appeasing terrorists who hate not only Jews, but black people as well.

297 really grumpy big dog Johnson  Fri, May 16, 2008 12:32:40pm

They dems love BO because he's so adept at painting himself as the "blank canvass" candidate, un-prepackaged and ready for you to project your most passionate fantasies about his being the messiah of the collectivist cause.

It's the responsibility of the GOP to fill in all that blank canvas with the gaudy colors and images that truly represent the man.

They still are not smart enough to realize that somewhere there will be a tape of the things they have said. ...

I am tired of hearing how stupid these leftists think that people are. " No, you are wrong, I did not say that.",

I'm reminded of Teresa Kerry, who is on tape saying "We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics."

Then later, screaming at a reporter asking her to elaborate on the term un-American that "I didn't say that. I did not say that." She walked away, walked back, and told him to "shove it."

Which was also all on tape.

That's an excellent point, Paul. I've heard that BO's actually quite personally arrogant, as illustrated by the fact that he always blames his staff when he screws up.

That's another counter Charles needs. Number of times Obama passes the buck to an underling on a given day.

If you have WINDOWS XP, you have Windows Movie Maker. What's to stop us from making ads ourselves? :)

LGF political ads. All we have to do is wait until the Democratic Convention. If Obama is chosen, wail on him with the political ads.

Mix in his statements with clips from Submission--show where the Democrats are wrong. As the D candidate is the face of the party, this would--if properly done--ensure GOP or better conservative power for some time.

We want an "anybody's better than the Democrats" meme to spread.
