I will add that, having just finished teaching three sections of college--well, art school--students, I am not optimistic about the literacy or thought processes of the up and coming electorate.

These kids are reasonably sweet-tempered, but they are barely literate. They know nothing, or next to nothing, about currrent events, and even less about history. I used to believe that as a whole, my fellow countrymen were far too intelligent to elect someone like Obama.

I have a great deal less faith in America's people today to do the right thing.

And the good people are paralyzed, unable to act effectively. They elect leaders who they think will act in their interests and those leaders betray them.
