Well said. Some of these old guys need to go fishing and golfing and enjoy their winter years. They can get spoiled by having a large staff to look after all their wants and needs and seem to make a career out of being pampered.
Go relax somewhere away from the cameras. Go ahead. Try it. We'll still remember you.

Kennedy Falls Ill; Airlifted To Boston Hospital
BOSTON (CBS) %u2015 U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy was airlifted to a Boston hospital Saturday morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, Mass., the Cape Cod Times reported.
He was first rushed to Cape Cod Hospital, and after being in the emergency room for two hours he was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to the Times.
It's unknown what the 76-year-old senator's medical condition is.
Kennedy was first elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy, who is the second most senior member of the Senate, has since been re-elected to seven full terms, representing Massachusetts for 43 years.

Thumbnail wiki bio.
Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy (born February 22, 1932) is the senior United States Senator from Massachusetts and a member of the Democratic Party. In office since November 1962, Kennedy is the second-longest serving member of the Senate, after President pro tempore of the United States Senate Robert Byrd of West Virginia. [2][3] The most prominent living member of the Kennedy family, he is the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, both of whom were assassinated, the former on November 22, 1963, the latter on June 5, 1968. He is also the father of Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.
Ted Kennedy is a staunch advocate of liberal principles, and is one of the most influential and enduring icons of his party.

OT: UN "human rights" commission to investigate US...
U.N. racism investigator to visit U.S. from Monday
A special U.N. human rights investigator will visit the United States this month to probe racism, an issue that has forced its way into the race to secure the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
The United Nations said Doudou Diene would meet federal and local officials, as well as lawmakers and judicial authorities during the May 19-June 6 visit.
"The special rapporteur will...gather first-hand information on issues related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance," a U.N. statement said on Friday.
His three-week visit, at U.S. government invitation, will cover eight cities -- Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Race has become a central issue in the U.S. election cycle because Sen. Barack Obama, the frontrunner in the battle for the Democratic nomination battle, stands to become the country's first African American president.
His campaign has increased turnout among black voters but has also turned off some white voters in a country with a history of slavery and racial segregation.
Yes, of course Doudou is a Muslim.

I met Teddy at the airport in Pittsburgh. He was on the way home from the Dolphin-Niner Super Bowl. He was pretty beat from the long day but took the time to share a story about a mutual friend. I've always thought he was a good person and would have certainly made a better president than Jimmah. It's unfortunate that his leftist politics became so shrill over the last twenty years, but so have his party's congressional representatives in general. Nice guy who has been through a lot of turmoil and pain in his life, but certainly knew how to have a good time. I was friends with his family in Connecticut, very, very nice people. Cape Code Hospital has Primary Stroke Center certification, which is not easy to get and means he got first-class care while there. I suspect he was air-lifted out after starting the clot-busters because of his high profile or simply because he's in really bad shape. I do hope it's not the latter. Whatever one might think of his politics, he's seen enough tragedy to last several lifetimes.

What would happen in two hours (1+ / 0-)
that made them decide he needed to be transferred to Mass. General?
It real simple his condition requires the top flight services at Mass. Gen.
No need for "all sorts of possibilities."
I can answer that quite easily. Medical care in Massachusetts is set up so that there are small community hospitals that handle pretty ordinary stuff, larger regional hospitals that handle not quite so ordinary stuff and a few big hospitals that handle major emergencies. Cape Cod Hospital is a not-quite-so-ordinary. They triage and ship folks in dire straits off to the big centers with lots of resources and lots of specialists.
If Ted were an ordinary person, then one might conclude that he was in fairly critical condition to have been transferred to Mass General. Because he is a US Senator and a Kennedy, he might not be in quite such dire circumstances.

Teddy can be grateful he isn't sick under socialized healthcare. In the UK - people were waiting for days to be seen in emergency rooms. So UK lawmakers came up with a scheme that a person had to be seen within 3 hours of being unloaded from an ambulance. So of course, the government health care bureaucracy responded by not allowing the ambulances to unload their patients until they could guarantee that they were ready to be seen- instead, the the patients had to stay inside the ambulances lined up along the street - and of course, the ambulances were charging by the hour.
Kennedy is already a lucky man - just for living in the USA. This country has been very good to his family - and he owes us much.
Incidentally - in the UK they are minimizing health care to the obese and to smokers - Kennedy would be out of luck on that account too.

What is so insidious about socialist healthcare and strokes is that doctors know about the 'golden hour' of care, the first hour after the symptoms, making a huge difference in outcome. However, if a patient can't get treated in that first hour, due to a dysfunctional socialist system - then the outcome deteriorates significantly.

Respectfully, there isn't enough information out there to form a good opinion on his prognosis.
I doubt there will be until its clear what that prognosis is. His medical confidentiality will be guarded most carefully. When John Wayne went to the MGH for cancer treatment (I think his later lung cancer) there were literally reporters staked out in the lobbies and elevators hoping to catch some snippet of information for a story. They got NOTHING.
The initial reports suggest he has had a stroke.
Assuming that's true, he could come out of this perfectly fine. . .literally 100% Alternatively, he could die (or worse, end up like Ariel Sharon).
And everything in between is also possible.
We'll probably hear more within a few days. . .at the very least how serious it is, if not the specific details.

Maybe not as well as your Mom did. One long recognized difference between men and women is that women tend to use both sides of their brains fairly equally while men tend to use mostly one side. This becomes very apparent after a stroke, when most women will regain most of what they lost with therapy and time but most men do not.
And again, it depends on the kind of stroke.

One thing I've come to learn over time is that the same God that judges those I feel to be my enemies will one day judge me. I'll be in need of His Mercy on that day as will everyone that stands before Him. I'm far from a perfect man. I'm sure the same can be said about Mr. Kennedy. I'm more than willing to let the Eternal Judge have the final say in Mr. Kennedy's life. I have a full time job trying to do right in my own life, and I'm falling much farther short of what I had planned to do than I ever imagined. I bet if everyone was honest about it,they could say much the same thing.
So,having said all of that,I really do wish Senator Kennedy a full and speedy recovery.

I do not believe in capital punishment even for psychopaths (Kennedy is not one btw), so I wish him the best of luck when he recovers as much as he may and then retires. It will make little difference in MA. They could run Satan (or Iblis) himself under the Democratic label and he/she would get elected. In many ways this is a non-event except for Kennedy and his family. I wish him a speedy recovery or a speedy demise. Being caught in the in between land of marginal functionality is a form of hell. The fortunate thing is that the brain is fairly plastic. They have had quite a bit of success in immobilizing the "good" half of the person's body (the part not effected by the stroke) and then having the brain begin to rewire itself to use the part that was effected. Sort of the same situation as "lazy eye" where they patch over the "good" eye and force the brain to use the less functional one rather than just having the brain turn it off permanently. Recovery is possible even if the stroke is fairly severe. My dad had one in his 80s that left him dyslexic for 6 months. For a guy whose life was reading at that point in his life, it was a disaster. But the function returned and he drove my mother bats trying to find rare and obscure books to read.
We all die sooner or later. As much as I dislike the gentleman in question, I hope for him it is later and rapid. I have seen too many of the "walking dead" with severe brain damage or Alzheimer's to wish it on anyone.

It's worth noting that Sentor Kennedy is a fighter. His back was broken in a plane crash when he was 35, and he overcame that and worked hard to do so. I don't like the odds this time, but the odds weren't swell when he had a broken back, either. My best wishes to him for a recovery, knowing it is fully possible when you have a fighter and excellent medical care (which America has).

Fortunately that is just a guideline (I can tell you my hospital will ignore it, it's run by real Catholics) but i agree it's veeery creepy. Baby boomers are defined as those born between 1946 and 1964.
Not in any scenario I have ever seen and I am one. A generation is 10 years. Given the times, many of the children born in 1964 could very well have been children of those born in 1946.
The Baby Boom was a particular even that took place at the end of WWII resulting in a huge increase in the number of children that were born. That had returned to normal by 55.
If somebody is selling you on the 64 date, this is an attempt to rewrite history, to make there seem like there are more of us hankering for your social security dollars than there are.

It should be noted that Kennedy had an operation on his carotid artery recently. From the UK Telegraph:
'Mr Kennedy had preventive surgery in Boston in October to unclog a partially blocked carotid artery in his neck.
The blockage was discovered during a routine check of Mr Kennedy’s back and spine, doctors said. A blocked carotid artery can lead to a stroke and death.
The doctor who operated on Mr Kennedy said at the time that surgery is reserved for those with more than 70 percent blockage, and Kennedy had "a very high-grade blockage."'
A 70%+ sludge factor in that artery is not a good sign. While the operation does have an overall rate of success, sludge there means sludge other places. I am no MD, but I do not think this is a hopeful case.

Baby boom has nothing to do with a 'generation' (which btw is 20 years, 10 year old humans don't reproduce). I have seen many times in many different models for varying purposes that the baby boom generation does in fact run from 1946-1964. Here are some of those places:
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]
[Link: www.aginghipsters.com...]
this last one is from the US Census bureau. Notice it is from 1990 and talks about Baby boomers, whose ages run from 26-44:
[Link: www.census.gov...]
As someone who was born in 59 I have always been called a baby boomer. As a matter of fact, yours is the first time I have ever seen anyone dispute that fact.

From the article from the US Census Bureau that is in the post if you click 'baby boomer':
In 2006, the oldest of the baby boomers, the generation born between 1946 and 1964, will turn 60 years old. Among the Americans celebrating their 60th will be our two most recent presidents, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Other well-known celebrities reaching this milestone include Cher, Donald Trump, Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton. To commemorate this occasion, the Census Bureau has compiled a collection of facts relating to, perhaps, our most celebrated generation.
My oldest is a 'baby boomer'...daughter was born in Dec. 1965, so she and the other 2 younger sons have no such claim to fame. ;)

Yeah, he's a gomer of the political type.
And I would like the diagnosis of a stroke better than new-onset seizures in an older man, for sure. Although it could still be a stroke (depending on where the family spokesman got his information), the alternative causes are not very good, and may be elusive. MGH is a good destination for him.

As a whole, the Kennedy family political presence is ironically much of what the most vitriolic Dems want to paint Republicans as, amassed wealth through illegal means, using political influence for the benefit of the family, from keeping a son from being court martialed in wartime (and spinning the disaster he caused into a war hero story/medals and all etc) to the apparent immunity from prosecution for possible crimes ranging from murder/manslaughter (at least) to rape etc of various members, not just him, across the decades up to the present along with all the rest elitism has to offer.
I cannot feel all that sympathetic for a man who has spent so much of his life destroying/attacking/undermining the good of the Nation. Seeing that he has lived the ultra elite lifestyle at the expense of a society he has done so much to attack (not to mention being treasonous according to exposed KGB files etc ad nauseum) I just cannot think he'll be in a better place when he vacates this world.

re: #271 NY Nana Thank you NY Nana, I take 3 different meds spread thoughout the day, and still have them more frequently than I or my Dr would like. Sometimes I spend time in the hospital, but many happen at home, and my Dr says I only need to go to the ER when they don't stop after a few minutes. Many times when I have a Grand Mal, they last longer than a few minutes, and my head feels like it's going to explode. I'm on Disability finally after years of gov't hurry-up and wait, but also have stacks of ambulance bills, and ER bills. I'm filing BK, but my credit is ruined and I'll be playing catch-up for years. I would think that giving each American the same level of care that the US Congress gets and we pay for should be what every citizen gets; no more, no less.

Our friend's 3 year old fell out of her crib/bed, and hit her head - and then had a seizure - then another - over the course of 1 month she had nearly daily seizures, sometimes multiple seizures a day. They told her she would be on medication for the rest of her life - and that having had her first seizure after a fall was a coincidence.
At the time I worked for a chiropractor who was an upper-cervical specialist, who could gently move the top three bones of the neck, a small amount. This baby's cervical x-rays were a mess - a huge misalignment of her upper-cervical vertebrae.
My friends brought her down from Seattle to San Jose for a week - the doctor gentle worked on her every day - for only a few minutes. Her seizures stopped after the first visits and never, ever, ever returned.

Crazy Uncle Ron Paul to self: Where's my blimp?

Remember Carolyn Kennedy figuring largely in my adolescent lusts at one time. Remember when Sirhan Sirhan (in yet another stunning example of Islamic peace and love) killed Bobby. It damned well should be, but I hate to tell you that there have been a number of articles that many companies, large and small, will D/C medical insurance for their employees, as they can no longer afford it.
That Congess has unlimited funding for this is despicable. So many of them are multi-millionaires who can bloody well pay for their own, and IIRC, they get the insurance even after they leave office, all paid for by us...many of whom have no insurance. We are on Medicare, not that great, but at least we are covered. And we have prescription coverage. I get mine mail ordered from Canada, thus saving a small fortune. And when I reach a certain point I get a 50% return on the cost.

My dad helped him when he started in politics and was in life Magazine with him years ago sorry to say my dad died back in the 70's but thats not the story.
A 7 years ago when my wife got real sick and there were no hospitals here in NH nor in Boston could help her we needed to go to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore the insurance company said we could not, we fought them to no end I tried with local help and still they said no. I then thought well maybe Ted can help maybe he would remember my father so I made the call and spoke to one of his assistants not a week went by when we got a call from the insurance company saying we could go to Johns Hopkins and everything would be paid 100%. We have been going to Baltimore now for 7 years.

Biopsy of the brain? I imagine he is now undergoing a battery of scans.
He's undoubtedly already been scanned, possibly more than once.
Its such that you can barely walk through the MGH ER without having your head scanned.
No biopsy unless the scan showed a tumor, or something highly suspicious for one.
What could cause seizures in a 76 year old guy?
Brain tumor, stroke, infection, drug effect (eg withdrawal) would be common etiologies.
As to the politics of the physicians at MGH, I know several (including some pretty senior ones), and suffice it to say while you'd find that most MDs in MA are liberal, lots of MDs (particularly surgeons) are conservative.
What I will say with 100% certainty is that the political affiliation of whomever is taking care of Kennedy is utterly irrelevant, and won't affect the care he gets by one iota.

I am sorry to hear that also and I wish you all the best.
I worked with a young man who suffered from Grand Mal seizures, a lot of our work requires us to be in the middle of the street and one day he has a Grand Mal right there in the street. I had to stand there with my foot on him so as to keep him from rolling into traffic, good thing we were across the street from a public school. There was a few people out in front of the school curiously looking at me, I yelled to them and asked if one of them could call 911 on a cell phone, one of them ( I suspect a life long democrat ) pointed toward the school and declared “they have a phone you can use”, I replied, great now you come over here and hold him while I go make that call. They gave one look at my co-worker flopping around like a fish out of water and quickly surmised making the 911 call was much easier.

He did not want to be confined to a wheel chair or loose the use of one side of his body etc. A big time outdoors man he felt loosing the ability to hunt and fish would make life unbearable for him. Three quarters of the deleted comments in this thread are from people who were expressing unhappiness with an offensive comment -- but they quoted the comment in their reply, making it necessary to remove their comment too. (Otherwise, there wouldn't be much point in deleting anything.)
The moral of this story (he said again) is: if you see an offensive post and want to reply, that's good. Do it. But DON'T quote the offensive post -- use the 'reply' button instead of the 'quote' button. Then your comment won't have to be deleted, and it will reinforce the point.

Every visit. Anyhow, in the end, I signed the papers to have a feeding tube put in. Yeah, I know. But when you have professionals looking at you like you're a murderer, well thats a whole lot of pressure ! Anyhow, my point is this could be a life altering event for Kennedy. Look at what G.Wallace went through. I do not wish the man ill, I do pray he see's the light while still here amongst us. He could make the remaining years of his life his most important and productive.
The Kos kids will think this an extremely arrogant statement on my part (and maybe a few here !). I've never felt Kennedy even believes his own BS He is a politician - he picked a side and ran with it all the way.
A political "hit man" that has to drink to live with his conscience and memories. Its never too late to for salvation Ted ! I will pray for you - just from this forum alone there are a lot of prayers going out for you ! it can't hurt...
Please do not beat yourself up over this. Even if your Dad had put it in writing it wouldn't have been academic- Living wills don't have the force of law- it would still have been up to you and the docs with your father's wishes serving only as a guideline. We went through the exact same thing but since my family is rife with doctors it was (slightly) easier to dig our heels in- and we could not withhold the feeding tube either. We stopped the drugs that kept her alive, though, without a living will. So we have to live with that. It's a no-win situation that you were in and you did the best you could.

I think your current policy of deleting over the top comments ASAP is the better one.

I kind of hoped that last year when Ted had carotid surgery to eliminate a total blockage on that side, that the increased blood supply to his brain would have some more positive results as to lucidity, common sense, bipartisanship. But darn, I've not seen any improvement whatsoever, so I guess the best we can hope for is retirement. Do get well, Senator.

I had seizures a few years ago resulting from a subdural hemotoma (blood pooling between my brain and skull). Somewhere along the line a must have taken a whack to my head, is the theory. The blood pooled and self clotted. Apparently as the blood ages the composition changes and expands. Thus the seizures and stroke-like symptoms. I couldn't speak, right side of my face sagged, my right arm was numb. My legs were fine, which seemed to confuse the doctors. Surgery was required, the took a flap out and drained the blood and the seizures ended. However, during the surgery I picked up a staph infection which resulted in surgeries that were much more disruptive than the hemotoma. Took me a long time to recover.
I too had a long time to meditate and pray. I found a new understanding of my relationship with God.
I hope Ted has a revelation and figures out there is a much better way to deal with his past than to drink it away.

Interesting. I'm seeing quite a few referrals coming in from Daily Kos, Balloon Juice and other sites where they were obviously hoping to catch LGF having a big party over this news.
Charles, those on the left do not understand that we are not driven by hate in what we believe. I do not hate Sen. Kennedy. I only hate his political views. The left is not given to the same mode of thought. They not only hate the politics of those they disagree with, they hate the person that holds those views as well. This is the reason the left assumes we are haters of Islam. They can not understand how we can hate the political views of an individual and not hate the person as well. They assume if we hate terrorists who are Islamic,we automatically hate Islam as well since they hate Conservative views AND THE PERSON who holds those views. They do not understand why we do not lash out in hate against Sen. Kennedy as they would if it were a Republican Senator in the same shoes. When you understand what drives the left,it becomes clear why they are confused over our lack of "throwing a party". There's no reason to throw a party over the misfortune of a fellow American,no matter what you think of their political views.

I haven't been to the Mass General in eons, as we have lived in NY since 1965, and I trained here, at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. The MGH, Children's' etc., did not accept Jewish students in 1955, when I graduated from Newton High (MA), but I worked for the Comm. of MA's Nurses Registry when we were living there while my husband was in the Army, and stationed at the now-defunct Boston Army Base. They sent me to Mass. General and to Children's' to be a private duty RN...irony.
I saw it on Fox..and none of the buildings look familiar.
When I was working there? I was a Dem., and not all that interested in politics, and my first vote was for JFK (you had to be 21 in order to vote back then) ...his assassination is with me still...I was just starting my 9th month of pregnancy, and in Boston..bulletin on the radio.
Before 9/11, my world was defined by that horrific event (ie before and after)..JFK was a mensch, totally the opposite of his father, who when US Ambassador to the Court of St. James, visited his idol, *itler.(may his name and memory be obliterated). Joseph Kennedy, Sr., was a consummate Jew hater, unlike his kids.
My Jewish Republican parents cried when they heard about the assassination..they, too, voted for him. Their renegade daughter left the Dems when Carter was in office a few months, and we became Republicans when Bush ran for his first term, as one must be registered in a party in NY to vote in a
primary.

Thanks for sharing that. Everytime I hear about head injuries in accidents, sadly often due to neglecting traffic laws by pedestrians crossing dangerous intersections against a light or people in cars without seatbelts, I worry for the individual and the family of that person. One wack on the head can be the end of your life as you know it and making a stupid mistake of not wearing a helmet while on a motorcycle and taking a relatively minor fall...but landing just perfectly the wrong way... is sad that people have to learn how fragile life can be.
Head injuries are no joke. I hope you've healed through that ordeal. It is certainly better to have "stroke like symptoms" than a stroke itself due to the severe damage of the brain it can potentially cause. The body is much stronger than the brain is and I've seen alzheimers patients that you wish were dead because you know they'd be better off.
Thanks again. It is good to hear a "survival" story instead of the ones where people are unable to function as a normal person ever again. (Locally just this past week an 11 year old girl was run over recently. She has a severe head injury and her prognosis is unknown...head injury...sad.)

On Kennedy's drinking, I thought he's been sober for a while now.
But whether he is or isn't currently drinking, that's somewhat irrelevant to me. So long as he's not doing it publically or to the extent that its compromising his ability to function, that's his own business. I care about how he votes, and conducts himself in office.
I said earlier that I wouldn't cry if he had to leave office. While that's true, I would hasten to add that I would MUCH rather see him voted out of office or retire out of choice, rather than have to retire for health reasons.

I don't want to be too specific about my experiences at MGH, but I've actually worked there TWICE, in two entirely different capacities, once in the 90s, once more recently.
Like a lot of older hospitals, the physical plant is an amalgam of older and newer buildings. So if you haven't been there in decades, sure, there are buildings you wouldn't recognize.
As to your remark about the Jews and MGH, I'm reminded of that old Boston medical chestnut about the guy who came in from out of town and asked his cabbie to take him to the best hospital.
The Cabbie replied, "You have to be more specific. The Mass General Hospital is the best hospital in the world, but the Beth Israel Hospital is the best hospital in the city of Boston".
If you've spend time working in either system, you'll "get" it, and I think its probably still "true" to an extent.

Ironically, if Kennedy wasn't in a position of power in a country that has social healthcare, he would be worse off or dead because of the long waits.
American healthcare is the best in the world, and if Kennedy can be saved and rehabilitated it's due to the fact that we don't have universal healthcare.

Well, there's that too, of course. Kind of a side benefit of the other, maybe. But I can still remember when, the situation being reversed (Cheney with his heart problems, for instance), they were all foam-flecked nasty dancing-in-glee-that-he-might-die, over the top, wishing for death, etc. You get my gist.
In essence, they have no compulsion to be decent when someone they have issues with has fallen. Knowing only that mindset (I know, I know, who'da thought they had minds, based on their behavior?), they presume that that is exactly how everyone else believes/behaves, and expect it of us.* Because they can't help but be poltroons, they expect it of us in return, never considering that reasoning creatures can decide not to engage in that type of behavior.
It's like they have no internal monitor, are cursed with a childish form of tourette's syndrome that says no matter what bilge they think, they should display it.

I am also physically disabled, not by diabetes, but can empathize. I have seen what my then-3 1/2 year old granddaughter went through when she was rushed to the medical center in NJ after her first Grand Mal..she was hooked up to EEG machine. She had a 'cap' on, with a tether, so she could at least ride a toy car back and forth in the corridor when she was stabilized, but still hooked up, as it was a 24-hour test.
The second one was worse...but her MD's feel that she may outgrow this, because of her age.(she is not classified as disabled.)
My oldest grandchild is also legally disabled..she was a micro-preemie, and had mild MS, and other problems. She humbles me. She is very brave and very determined, and has so many steel plates in her thighs and hips..and will have to undergo more surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC this summer. She never lets it get her down, and is a very happy, outgoing, and extremely loving and lovable kid!
Her vision is also affected. nothing stops her; she has been reading to kindergartners in her elementary school for 2 years..since Grade 1.
Her classmates are just amazing, and treat her like any other kid. She is our Drama Queen! Hilarious.
Please take care...I know you will not let the bastards win.

I am not all that gung ho on universal health coverage as I was until this year, to tell the truth. I was very much in favor of it, but seeing what is happening in the UK and also the Province of Ontario, as well as other Canadian provinces that have versions of it (ON is OHIP), there needs to be meaningful investigations and studies done here before initiating any system..National Health in the UK is deteriorating at an alarming rate, with waiting lists for urgent care a mile long.
IMHO, illegal aliens there, just as here, have to be a major problem...we need a major revamp of health care in the USA, and are years late in doing it, thanks to Shrillary's stealth committee.
I do not think that Laura Bush would even consider taking on such a thing. She is a lady.
Who died and named Shrill G-d, that a First 'lady' does this, with no medical background, etc., at all?
Shrill is paramount in putting us where we are now re medical care.
I was private pay when we were in London, as I developed severe bronchitis while vising our friends...the cost for a private MD and medication was too small for our health insurer to pay! And the MD spent nearly an hour talking to us. And it was private...now? Not a clue, but will ask our friend's daughter, who is working here on assignment from the London HQ of the bank where she is an exec.
We must have a Republican admin in '09, or health care will be something we look up in a dictionary under the Demonrats..and all the talk about what diabetes and diabetics, and other chronic illnesses are costing, and the blaming of the victims is making me nervous.

Absolutely! The story of the Kennedys is a fascinating American story.
I visited the JFK Museum in Dallas this week. It is on the 6th floor of the notorious book depository where Oswald hid when he carelessly and cruelly assassinated Pres. Kennedy. I highly recommend the Museum to anyone who remembers that sad day in our history. It is very well done and brought those memories flooding back with incredible poignancy.
The charismatic President, his brief stint in The White House is compellingly told. The amateur video is especially compelling.
Never has there been a more beautiful widow than Jackie Kennedy. The video of her alone is worth the trip.
I wish Sen. Kennedy a full recovery.

Ted Kennedy may be ill, but I don't think that absolves him from all the really horrible things he has done. And because he is a public figure with so much influence over the lives of Americans, I think it is fitting that we contemplate those things whenever he is in the public eye -- even it if it because he is ill. It would be very nice if every time we become incapacitated our sins are washed away. It does not happen that way even for Ted Kennedy.

Like most of us I'll pray for his recovery (dislike his politics).I once upon a time liked the Kennedy's , when I was a wee lad. Teddy really went astray later in his career... his retirement would be best for all.

Earlier in the thread, NY Nana stated her disapproval of the fact that US Senators have better health coverage than average Americans. Knowing that it isn't cool to cut anyone's health benefits (no matter their assets), what are taxpayers to do about it? How do we get average Joe's coverage equal to that of Congress?

My point was that you fight for something and it doesn't work, and then want something else that has no chance of working. You should see the people that use American Doctors and Dentist in the Detroit area from Canada.
Money doesn't buy common sense, I guess.
We see some Canadians in my neck of the woods, er, prairie, if they're really sick. The particular province near me has a lot of money, though, so their health care is better. That's ironic, too. It's okay for the provinces to buy better healthcare but God forbid an individual wants to!
Oh, wait. That's not irony, that's hypocrisy.

May God grant Teddy Kennedy the strength to recover quickly and the wisdom to decide it's time to retire gracefully.

I am not happy about that, I don't agree with the GOP on this issue but can't see my self voting for the defeatists. Which is one of the reasons i like Joe Lieberman because he is not a DEFEATIST.

This is an example of why we will lose in November. Can't really say how we feel about certain issues, have to be "respectful". Yeah, like the other side does and that by being nice makes a difference.

Is mentioning facts a sign of disrespect? In that case go ahead, and cancel my account. Censorship at LGF? Who would have thought?

I was not kidding. If you can't restrain yourself from dumping on Ted Kennedy while he's sick, don't post here.
Hey, that's cool. I thought he managed to say, in a polite way, that he finds Ted Kennedy to be undeserving of his personal best wishes. Not my sentiment, but I didn't think it crossed any lines.
My bad.

It ALWAYS makes a difference to be polite. It is NEVER preferable to be rude. That doesn't mean don't fight hard or speak up on important issues. That is a whole different thing.
Politeness makes a huge difference to the person who is polite. It is not the other people who suffer at a person's rudeness - it is the rude person. It is a basic fundamental law of life. I recommend learning it.

someone said they hoped it didn't get political. It did, and fast. A democratic political strategist interviewed on FOX said that this is a reason not to vote for Senator McCain. He is old and susceptible to older ailments.
Bet Nancy Pelosi won't denounce that remark.

I call it "standing up for what I believe."
They call it "being rude" (and then make all kinds of baseless, presumptive accusations).
I will not kow-tow to their bogus expectations of "politeness" that apply only to me.

Good call keeping it classy, Charles. I hate it when the libtards in moonbat sites cream a conservative who's having health problems, so it's good to see LGF showing some class. A tip of the hat to you and my lizard compatriots.

As conservative and Republican as I am today, I was (still am) an admirer of brothers John and Robert's politics. To this day, I really believe that Bobby Kennedy would have made a great president. Unfortunately, Teddy, for some reason only known to God, took a strong left-turn sometime during the past 20 years. Some of the things coming out of his mouth inflamed me to no end and I really believe disgraced the legacies of both his brothers.
BUT, with that said, I certainly wish the Senator a speedy recovery. He is a fellow American like all us lizards and deserves nothing but the best. Now, they say it was a seizure and NOT a stroke. That sounds like good news for him as seizures are much easier to recover from than strokes. My prayers are with old Ted!
