Metafilter Doesn't Heart LGF

Sun, May 18, 2008 at 9:09:51 am PDT

They like us, they really like us: Revolt of the Lab Rats? Or Voyeur Caught Watching? | MetaFilter.

OK, I’m being sarcastic. Truth is, they really hate us. A lot.

But it’s funny to read their clueless comments, completely misconstruing everything about Little Green Footballs, and spewing hatred in all directions like psychotic manbabies with insomnia. Which is pretty much what all the purblind leftist drones do.

UPDATE at 5/18/08 9:43:00 am:

As if to demonstrate that they don’t have a single clue about LGF, a Metafilter drone posts:

I think CJ (Chief Lizard, LGF Towers, Lalaland) regularly visitsMefi. How else could he be this quick:

Yeah, I must be pinned to Metafilter, reading them obsessively, looking for any comment about LGF.

How else could I possibly do it?

Not just clueless; determinedly clueless.

Comment there:

"Man, I wanted to forget about that hateful little blog.
Should have known better then to click and read the thread about the gay marriage decision in california.
Needs an NSFG tag. (not safe for gays)"

Comments here:

"They meant "gay" as in happy, right?"

"So now John McCain can live openly with the Republican Party?"

"And soon they will do away with the Governorship and elect a Queen."

That last one sounds like something one of my Gay friends would tell.

Hateful, vile site alrighty.

I hadn't read the explanation from the CMU people - very interesting. I figured the post reply count thing, but that was all I sussed out from what was left when I looked.

I'm one of those people who automatically feels flattered when I am noticed, so I got a kick out of the whole thing. I look forward to looking at the data with more understandable notations when they put the stuff back up for all eyes to read.

Hi Taey! I read some of your posts on CMU and think you'd make an excellent Lizard / or are an excellent Lizard, if you have a nick here.

35 Jonn Lilyea  Sun, May 18, 2008 9:26:57am
Structurally these sites are designed (like almost all blogs and message boards) to expire topics and discussion threads. Oh, these threads are still there in most cases, but you really have to go digging for them. The fact that things "fall off" the front page creates the impression that these sites have no history. This is reassuring in that members can rant, express their views, and generally be as bad as they want to, and they don't have to worry about their opinions coming back to haunt them.

That sorta defeats the whole idea of a WEB LOG doesn't it? I wonder if the little calendar and the "Archives" list also creates the impression these sites have no history? These gomers sure have a weak grasp of the obvious.

Now that sites like the Soros backed Media Matters have people working around the clock transcribing right wing radio you've seen the edge disappear somewhat. Limbaugh himself has largely curtailed his more vitriolic rants knowing that his statements are being recorded for posterity and relentlessly fact checked.

Where do these people come from? It's as if they are living in a different world. Maybe this poster doesn't have a radio, and someone told them that this was happening. Empirical data matters not to them.

The idiot who posted that comment about our "gay marriage" thread obviously didn't read it -- or he read it with his lefty hate-colored glasses on.

True. I find one of the huge issues the left has is seeing only what they want to see.

Lefties may pretend they are 100% non-homophobic, but this is far from the case. They use this issue when it serves them personally but don't support gay issues, such as the plight of gays in Islam (with a few notable exceptions). They leave the gay activists to do that. A while back, I posted a supportive comment at Michael Petrelis's site, after he got up on a chair at a UN speech by SG Ban Ki-Moon to protest "the unconscionable, murderous silence of the UN concerning continued violence and executions globally" targeting gays at a UN thing in San Francisco. A couple of other Lizards also posted. The only other posts and links were from gay sites. Didn't see any leftie sights lifting a finger to support him.

The lefties say they believe believe that all people should have the right to protect themselves... yet they are critical of Israel's wall that protects the civilian population from suicide bombers.
They profess to believe in press freedom, yet they fail to criticize Iran's government controlled press.
I could go on and on, but the list of contradictions that are exhibited by lefties and what what they profess to believe is simply mind boggling.

Excerpts from the largest comment, by wfrgms at 8:26 AM on May 18 [9 favorites]:

The idea that some ivory tower academics may be not only "making a recording" of what goes on at LGF, but are also analyzing this data, and possibly presenting it in some new fashion is legitimate grounds for panic among these people.

But, truth be told, Kos is known for spewing out Marxist nonsense, racist crap, and stuff of similar pseudo-intellectual nature, then “disappearing” it as soon as an outsider is found to be watching. The “disappearing” effort usually fails, as there’s always someone who’s saves a couple of screen shots, for the later obligatory spanking of Kos and Klowns.

Some of the people at LGF truly don't care, for others it is a fantasy landscape where they can post their noxious views, be cheered for doing so, and then walk away without ever having to really think about what they are saying. The idea that now some group of researchers somewhere maybe looking at every keystroke, every opinion, and *gasp* judging these people as whole is cause for alarm. An outside observer has the potential to be a real buzz kill.

This is classic Leftist behavior/fear, with the name changed.

To be a "liberal" (under the distorted definition in use today), you have to simultaneously believe that:

1) You have a fundamental, inviolable right to secretly wire money to al-Qaeda; and

2) The government can dictate to you what kind of lightbulb you're allowed to install in your bedside lamp.

I don't try to intentionally offend people, but I am sure that somethings I have said may be misconstrued and taken out of context and may cause offense.

That a person is offended by something I said, or wrote is unfortunate, but not the intent. I will debate anyone regarding America's right to stand her ground against murderers who hide behind a clerics garb.
I will stand even if it means standing alone against the intolerance that suggests that all cultures respect humanity equally if a culture engages in the abusive and barbaric practice of female genital mutilation, honor killings of traumatic amputation of suspected criminals.
If someone is offended that I stand my ground on these positions then they have my sympathy, but my position will not change.

If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy.

The whole friggin' world is just so clueless sometimes ...

LGF tries to hold a position and keep a standard, and this totally mystifies readers visiting from the left.

It's just intelligent and civil discourse, with some attempts at humor, some of which occassionally succeed. It may just be the humor which most of all the leftoids can neither recognize nor appreciate.

209 Kosh's Shadow  Sun, May 18, 2008 10:51:25am

Bush gave a speech in Egypt, criticizing the Arabs -
Bush tells Arab world to fight terror

"Palestinians must fight terror and continue to build the institutions of a free and peaceful society," Bush said. "Israel must make tough sacrifices for peace, ease the restrictions on Palestinians. Arab states, especially oil-rich nations, must seize this opportunity to invest aggressively in the Palestinian people and to move past their old resentments against Israel."

Well, if Palestinians did the first part, Israel would do the second; they've already made sacrifices and got missiles in return.

And Abbas doesn't like this:
Abbas: I'll resign if no peace agreement reached this year
Or the previous speech at the Knesset:

"George Bush's speech in the Knesset angered us, it didn't satisfy us. We have many misgivings about his speech." said the PA president.

Sure, Bush didn't tell Israel to roll over and die.

So what is Abbas offering Israel? Probably more of the same. Give the Palis everything they want, and there will be "peace" for a few minutes until they can launch more attacks.
Or maybe long enough to get the MSM to believe some excuse that the Israelis haven't done enough.

The PA is almost like Hamas, but Hamas admits that they're trying to destroy Israel, the PA pretends they want peace with Israel, when the "Israel" they'd accept would be another Arab state.

Sure, Bush didn't tell Israel to roll over and die.

Make no mistake. If you've been listening the last few days you would have noted that both the Saudi Foreign Minister and the Egyptian stated clearly to Bush that our dollar would continue to slide and oil prices would stay high until the "palestinian refugees" get what they want. The "right of return" was specifically mentioned. We are being blackmailed - throw Israel to the wolves or watch the dollar sink lower and oil go higher.

Bush is still saying that there will be a settlement before December. I wouldn't count on any previous "friendship" with the US carrying the day for Israel this time.

OK America, it is high time to develop all the alternative energies

In many of the climate zones of this country you can design a new house to get much the major part of its heating, and usually cooling energy, from the sun

It does not cost much more, it is in how you situate the parts of the building, parts that you are going to buy anyway.

From wfrgms:

Structurally these sites are designed (like almost all blogs and message boards) to expire topics and discussion threads. Oh, these threads are still there in most cases, but you really have to go digging for them. The fact that things "fall off" the front page creates the impression that these sites have no history. This is reassuring in that members can rant, express their views, and generally be as bad as they want to, and they don't have to worry about their opinions coming back to haunt them.

The idea that some ivory tower academics may be not only "making a recording" of what goes on at LGF, but are also analyzing this data, and possibly presenting it in some new fashion is legitimate grounds for panic among these people. Imagine if all their threads, and topics, and posts were structured in a searchable, indexed fashion. Imagine if the analysis confirms the overriding trend of fear and hate which our cursory glances only gives us a sense of.

Just imagine.

Hard to resist these easy targets -- another comment from Meatflitter:

Mefi open threads would be a disaster. as you rightly state, but for LGF, where only one person has thread posting rights - CJ - and members may comment, open threads allow him to direct the tone and stay in touch with the base. Daily Kos has OTs too, but also many 'diaries' and many others with thread posting rights.

So, which blog is the most authoritarian?

This is reassuring in that members can rant, express their views, and generally be as bad as they want to, and they don't have to worry about their opinions coming back to haunt them.

Wait. I'm supposed to be comforted and reassured when a thread I've comment on "falls off" the front page?

Gee. I guess I should get rid of My Favorites and delete any and all links to past LGF pages. I wouldn't want to be "haunted" by easily accessible and accurate records of information which I might need in the future.

re: #263 Charles

Hard to resist these easy targets -- another comment from Meatflitter:

Well, I am grateful to them for this: if it weren't for their juvenile "de-linking" campaign in 2002, I wouldn't have found this wonderful forum as soon as I did.

Ever notice that Charles dominates the Weird category in the dreaded link viewer?

A sense of humor in the midst of all the madness!

Leftists? What the hell? Leftists don't have the money for an account there (I got mine way back in 2002 when it was still free).

More MeatFlitter bickering going on here:

I wish they would keep the bickering down over at Metafilter. It is disturbing.

An interesting comment:

A post that called DailyKos users a bunch of "paranoid lab rats" would have lasted all of 5 seconds; in fact, there is an abundance of evidence that we're okay with pissfests here as long as everyone is pissing in the same direction. But if you profess objectivity, either enforce it, or drop it.

So, which blog is the most authoritarian?

Someone on meatfiller hasn't been reading their blogs. Kos directs the tone on that site in an authoritarian manner. Why else would the Hillary supporters have gone on strike? "Screw 'em" tells his minions what side to be on and that's that. Charles gives his opinion on topics, but he never bullies us into thinking a certain way. I learn something everyday on this site.

Oh, I've had a metafilter attack before. I made one self-link, for which I apologized, I didn't know it was against the rules, and I got viciously and savagely attacked. I was a newbie then to blogs, so I used my real name. Instead of telling me I violated their rules, or even blocking my username, they "Google-bombed" me. Using my real name and saying that I was a child molester and rapist. Yes, those comments get harvested by Google and kept permanently. So beware of the vicious little children at Metafilter, they commit actual slander and libel to get revenge for minor perceived slights.

Wow. I used to post a lot at Metafilter until I was booted off for not towing the Lefty Line. It's a shame: circa 2001-5, Mefi was a great place. Then I guess, blogs took off and everyone who had anything smart to say got their own blog (well, not everyone: I just don't have the time).

I wonder if anyone will read this any recognize me. I still have a reputation over there. And I was booted off for zero.

HI OVER AT MEFI!

277 ParisParamus  Sun, May 18, 2008 9:33:02pm

Wow. I am discussed in a Metafilter thread, and the thread is closed on my account. Can someone contact me from over there?
