This is great. McCain comes off as very likeable here.

As opposed to a certain whiny crybaby throwing a three day tantrum.

He was darned good on Imus in the bad old days when I could stand NEITHER the I-man nor McCain. Now that I've learned to stop worrying and love John McCain, I'm in stitches.

No, but I'm still having problems with IE 7 and Vista 32. If I don't sign out and sign in each time, the viewer doesn't load and although it displays that I'm signed in, I'm really not. It must be some cookie/caching thing.

You know it's funny -- they've had some pretty incisive stuff, this year. Tina Fey and her cohorts, while all liberals, are also pretty smart. They haven't swooned for Obama like so many in the entertainment industry.

Charles,

It certainly personalizes him and shows his sense of humor (wicked, totally wicked), but the digs on the Democrats were very pointed and telling.

The first two panels, left to right, are a world-wide map. The third panel, on the right, is a close-up of Europe. I don't think there's any significance to it, beyond set design, color schemes, etc etc etc.

So, Iraqi military units have been real busy of late, and yet another disembodied voice from the great beyond called in - and vented his spleen about the great jihad and liberation from the Arabs. Funny, but Iraq must not have worked out for him to keep hammering away on the Palestinian issue, don't you think?

It's quite telling - he's changed the goalposts, away from Iraq, to the Palestinians where that's his last hope for jihad. His audio handlers might be trying to instigate something against the Egyptians, and they might try another breach/invasion again. Still, that's not exactly defeating the Israelis and throwing them into the sea.

I think he guest-hosted SNL around 2003. Did a great sketch that was a Russert interview about whether he was going to run for President in '04, but the real classic was a sketch in which he sang Barbra Streisand hits and had some advice for her as well.

As much as I dislike McCains politics he nailed this one. Democrats and lefties have little sense of humor. 105 lobo91  Sun, May 18, 2008 5:08:55pm

Oh, look: Obama's lying to old people.

What a shock!

Democrat Barack Obama told seniors Sunday that Republican John McCain would threaten the Social Security that they and millions like them depend on because he supports privatizing the program.

While more subdued, his apprearance before about 130 people at an assisted living facility to talk Social Security was a significant attempt to tie the GOP's presidential nominee-in-waiting to an unpopular President Bush on a pocket book issue that motivates seniors — and also concerns younger generations worried about their own future retirement.

"Let me be clear, privatizing Social Security was a bad idea when George W. Bush proposed it, it's a bad idea today," Obama said. "That's why I stood up against this plan in the Senate and that's why I won't stand for it as president."

Funny how he didn't mention the fact that any sort of privatization plan would have nothing to do with the people he was talking to, who are already receiving benefits, or those nearing retirement age.

If younger workers are going to worry about something, it should be the fear that they won't privatize the system, because that's clearly the only way they're going to get anything from it.

Don't get me started on this. Click my name to see my figures on the BENEFITS of "privatization" (I'm for it, as a woman in her 30s.) Honestly, all Bush was suggesting then was that they change Social Security to a 401(k)/IRA type deal. For those who haven't already retired.I have a 401(k) from my job.

This all goes back to a fundamental problem regarding systems. People don't understand systems, and so they rail against them.

Example - the Social Security issue: Most people don't understand what President Bush was trying to fix in the system (its impending INSOLVENCY for *younger people* who will retire in the future); so when anyone suggests "privatizing" the system (actually allowing the worker to invest her own money into a 401(k) that will earn said worker more money than leaving it in Social Security to be spent by Congress), that person is accused of stealing "hard-earned" retirement money from old people and "throwing it away" in the "volatile" stock markets.

Worse, the same people don't even understand that Social Security is money taken from younger people's paychecks to pay retirees now; with the (diminishing) expectation that said money will be "paid back" in the future. The problem with the current system is that there are too many retirees and not enough employees--by the 2040's I expect to lose 27 cents of every dollar taken by FICA over my employent history. I will never see that 27 cents per dollar again.

I want the hemmorage to be stopped. I'd rather take my chances with the stock markets than Congress--who keeps dipping into the SS pot and giving the people IOUs. Heck, the SS problem could be lessened if a law were passed that kept SS monies from being spent by Congress. Good luck getting such a commonsense law to be passed. (Yes, in this case, there REALLY "oughta be a law...".)

= RANT BELOW =

Whatever happened to younger people supporting their elderly relatives in their old age? The Japanese haven't quit. My family at least has done it(I remember it from childhood).

This support system was knocked out by the Great Depression, but FDR's effort to fix it has made EVERYTHING WORSE. All that "privatization" is is an effort to fix the problem before it gets worse when I'm old enough to collect. My mom will collect, great-grandma and granny already did/do.

Doesn't anybody remember that McCain hosted SNL about a year ago. There was the skit in which he sang karaoke and uttered the famous line "If Barbara Streisand can give political opinions, I can sing." He sported an "evil" goatee beard in another skit.

re: #18 DesertSage

That was pretty funny.

There's nothing funny about Obama or Hillary

You're a racist and a sexist, sir.

OT:

Hello lizards, long time no see. I lurk most of the time now, but always check in to read every day.

I wondered if one of you could help me. Not too long ago, some yahoo on some kind of Canadian Human Rights Commission job made a comment about how good it was that Canada didn't have that pesky First Amendment like those Americans.

Can anyone remember the exact quote? I'd really appreciate it.

I think you may be referring to Canadian Human Rights Commission "investigator" Dean Steacy, who said: "Freedom of speech is an American concept, so I don't give it any value. "

Here's a link: Testimony of Dean Steacy

James Downey is the writer responsible for most of SNL's political sketches. He's also been IDed as a Republican in several stories, and in the book that came out a few years ago on the show's history (whether or not Downey's a very conservative Republican in open to debate, but it does explain why McCain got a pretty fair shake on Saturday and why the show went against most of the media, including NBC News, in calling them out in March over their pro-Obama bias).

re: #29 Perry

All I can see is Saul Tigh without his eyepatch.

Yeah, but if the previews for the next episode are right, Tigh gets some action with Six, which makes him The Man!

Here it is! It's a scream!

McCain is a funny guy. Kinda reminded me of Bob Dole who was always so dull, but had this hidden wicked humor, too.

McCain also has that clip on his campaign site, but it doesn't play on my computer for some reason.

Oddly enough!

Senator McCain's daughter Meghan McCain was an intern at Saturday Night Live, perhaps while she studied at Columbia University.
(per Washington Post story by Libby Copeland March 26, 2008)

McCain & Al Gore were both on Saturday Night Live in 2000, when Bush bashing was in full swing among the intelligentsia.

I'll tell you who's a pretty good comedian, Senator Arlen Specter.

I was going to say that, too. He basically agrees with the objective of Operation Chaos: keep the chaos going as long as possible to expose as many of their faults as possible.

Thanks, Alberta!

That's exactly what I was thinking of! I really appreciate that!

That's the kind of humor that can disarm the listening public and win the election. Reagan was gifted that way too.
