Firefox 3 Near-Final Version Released

Sun, May 18, 2008 at 4:19:19 pm PDT

Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is out of the gate; this is supposed to be the version between beta and final release: Firefox web browser | International versions: Get Firefox in your language.

Firebug (the Javascript debugger) still doesn’t work with this, so if you rely on that extension as much as I do, make a copy of Firefox 2 before installing so you can get back to it easily.

LGF seems to work well with RC1, at least on the Mac OS side. I’m posting this entry with it...

Will they send me a notice like they usually do?

2 lawhawk  Sun, May 18, 2008 4:21:05pm

I'm posting now with 3RC, and so far no problems. Again, as noted in the last thread, my only problem with Firefox (and IE as well, is that opening pdfs can be a pain with acrobat as it will often freeze).

I googled FireFox the Movie and youtube.

I can wait on the final version. Firefox 2.0 is running just fine for me.

Just got home from motorcycle school. I passed and can now get my cycle endorsement.

Got the 2nd best grade in the class, too.

The class included the road test. I'm endorsed.

Whee!

Now, to figure out how to pilot the scooter all the way to SoCal so I can go riding with Sage.

Congratulations Noam. After watching American Chopper for a year, I was thinking about buying a new bike. I haven't been on a motorcycle since 1978.
Seeing as how I'm probably one of the only people on earth to crash an exercise bike and walk away with 13 stitches... I thought it better to just put it to rest.

Here in CA they have a little test track in the DMV parking lot. You have to weave in and out of a bunch of little cones and ride in a circle between two lines about a foot and a half apart, clockwise and counter clockwise.
Do they have the same thing in MN?

16 nihilist  Sun, May 18, 2008 4:36:23pm

No problems viewing LGF with Windows Vista and the new Firefox release candidate. A number of my extensions, though, are not compatible and all my privacy setting on Firefox were disabled and I had to reset them (I am paranoid, yes).

Possible memory leak, though, and I had to restart my laptop after CPU was at 100% and not relenting.

Then again, Vista is so problematic that it could have been Vista malfunctioning, again.

I haven't been on a bike in nearly the same amount of time.

I have issues with the two dividing borders - one between the left column and the middle content column and one between the right column and the middle content column. They disappear at random times, must be some CSS that needs tweaking.

Double U-turn, proceed and do a swerve, then the quick stop, and finish with the arc at 37' - a timed test, requiring the driver to maintain an average rate of speed between 15-20 mph.

Is AdBlocker compatible with the new version? I'm on dial-up, so that's vital to me. (Sorry, Charles, but at 26.4K max, ads are a killer! And animation is even worse.)

Pelosi calls Iraq a ‘failure’
By Mike Allen

Feb 10, 2008

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said twice Sunday that Iraq “is a failure,” adding that President Bush’s troop surge has “not produced the desired effect.”

The purpose of the surge was to create a secure time for the government of Iraq to make the political change to bring reconciliation to Iraq,” Pelosi said on CNN’s “Late Edition.” “They have not done that.” ...

Pelosi’s comment came during a discussion of her call for “the redeployment of our troops out of Iraq.”

Anchor Wolf Blitzer asked: “Are you not worried, though, that all the gains that have been achieved over the past year might be lost?”

There haven’t been gains, Wolf,” the speaker replied. “The gains have not produced the desired effect, which is the reconciliation of Iraq. This is a failure. This is a failure/strong>...

Apparently we've made huge gains in the last three months:

Pelosi Now Confident Of Iraq Reconciliation

BAGHDAD - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a top Democratic critic of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, expressed confidence during a visit to Iraq on Saturday that expected provincial elections will promote national reconciliation.

She welcomed Iraq’s progress in passing a budget as well as oil legislation and a bill paving the way for provincial elections in the fall that are expected to more equitably redistribute power among local officials.

Pelosi was hopeful about the upcoming elections after meeting with Iraq’s Sunni parliamentary speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani.

We’re assured sure the elections will happen here, they will be transparent, they will be inclusive and they will take Iraq closer to the reconcilation we all want it to have,” she said.

Gee Nancy, you better tone it down, the kos kids are gonna start thinking you're General Petraeus' lackey.

I've been running adblocker plus through all the betas and the latest pre release without any problems.

Anyone want to place odds on when the Democrats will start claiming credit for the victory in Iraq and use the victory in Iraq as a condition for getting the troops home early?

@Charles:

There's a 1.1 beta for firebug that works with FF3B. I've been using it for a bit but you have to go to the firebug site to get it -- firefox doesn't detect the update and grab it for you.

RC1? What's that crap? Real men run the unstable version of Firefox, called Minefield, and get our updates regularly. No need to wait for the magic RC1 rubber stamp.

Of course, real men also love to compile Safari with the latest version of Webkit from svn. And install it on Mac OS X running on an AMD cpu with EFI emulation.

37 markie  Sun, May 18, 2008 5:24:09pm

I got my notice last night and updated from Beta5.

So far so good, but I'm far from a power user.

Gobs of add-ons don't work yet.

38 jimzinsocal  Sun, May 18, 2008 6:05:14pm

I was using the beta 5 version for a few weeks and was just upgraded to the most recent release.
I have had no issues with it at all.
Some guys have reported some weirdness when adding a bookmark...evidently it leaves something like an icon that isnt easy to move.[repeating what Ive read where I work]
I think its a vast improvement over the memory hog 2.0 version.

Everything I observe here is fine. No issues that I can detect.
And that coming from a guy that is a nervous and cautious beta tester.

But say something if you see issues. Ill be happy to ferry that info to
the tech site to caution folks.[just sharing observations]

Also Ive just plugged it into my new Q6600 Intel Box and brother.

Fly fly fly.

Now with the ultimate in browser security: "Fire rearward missles!"

^^Oh man...thats funny. We need to "think the browser actions"

The newest firefox beta version is running fine for me on LGF, under Linux. Almost as fast as Safari on my windows box.

Charles, you try the 1.2 alpha release of Firebug with FF3 RC1? Seems to work pretty well to me...

Same here: Windows Vista with the latest Firefox... fastest browser EVAH!

As to your comments on Vista, I have to disagree. I've been running every version since it was in beta, and I have had no problems at all. When done properly, it is a stable, smooth and powerful OS.

PortableApps.com offers a great way to try software under Windows. No installation, no registry entries, no uninstall needed. Just copy the file and run it. They released a portable version of Firefox 3.0 RC1 today. It copied right over my FF 3.0 Beta5 portable app directory. Using to post right now. Get it here:

Working well for you? Ive been trying all afternoon to kill it or make it misbehave. To no avail.

Is that similar to a sandbox routine? What you link to?
Thats all kosher and a user cant be harmed in anyway?

Ive come back to this to clarify.
My previous post sounded like like a slam at the service
that you mentioned and linked to.
My only intent was the way described? It sounded
like a "go here instead" deal when the service is directed at
"portable" clients only.
My obvious thought was folks might get confused....and avoid the Mozilla download site.
My apology if my post sounded like a slam at PortableApps.

It wasnt my intention.
