Barack Recognizes an Enemy

Sun, May 18, 2008 at 6:54:58 pm PDT

Even if Barack Obama is elected, we know there’s one enemy he’ll never appease: Fox News.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, facing a likely defeat in next Tuesday’s primary election, won’t travel to Kentucky before the voting, but said he hopes to have much more time to win over Kentucky voters before the November general election.

He also blamed Fox News for disseminating “rumors” about him and said that that and e-mails filled with misinformation that have been “systematically” dispersed have hurt him in Kentucky. ...

Obama has been trying to introduce himself to Kentuckians using a series of biographical TV ads, as well as fliers, including one that shows him at a pulpit in front of a church’s cross and pipe organ.

He acknowledged that he’s trying to “reverse a lot of misconceptions” about his background. He is a Christian, although some e-mail chains have said he is a Muslim.

“Part of it is because there have been these e-mails that have been sent out very systematically, presumably by various political opponents, although I don’t know who,” he said. “And there are a lot of voters who get their news from Fox News. Fox has been pumping up rumors about my religious beliefs or my patriotism or what have you since the beginning of the campaign.”

Obama's Golden Rule: It's never my fault.

5 lawhawk  Sun, May 18, 2008 6:58:51pm

Obama also has trouble with geography, considering that Kentucky borders his home state of Illinois. And it's far closer to his home state of Illinois than Hillary's former state of Arkansas.

Then again, it's still flyover country for Obama no matter how you cut it and it further speaks to how disconnected he is from most Americans.

Again I find myself in the unsatisfying position of more or less agreeing with Barack Obama. I think people have tried to paint him as a Muslim, which he's not.

Now: I can't say I appreciate his brand of 'Christianity' any more than, say, Sufiistic Islam. So he might want to think twice before drawing attention to his so-called faith.

8 Shifty  Sun, May 18, 2008 6:59:26pm

It is his own words like this that will do him in.

I should have quoted just a bit of that CSMonitor article:

According to Islamic jurisprudence, children of a Muslim father – even an apparently nonpracticing one, such as Obama's father, and irrespective of the mother's faith – are automatically Muslims. Most Muslims around the world agree: A child of a Muslim father is a Muslim. Period.

Should Obama become US commander in chief, there is a strong likelihood that Al Qaeda's media arm, As-Sahab, will exploit his background to argue that an apostate is leading the global war on terror (read: attacks against fellow Muslims). This perception would be leveraged to galvanize sympathizers into action.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon is fertile ground for Barack Obama, the self-described "change" candidate. The state that has led the way in everything from bike trails to assisted suicide is also the first to vote entirely by mail.

Oregon's 2 million-plus voters began receiving ballots more than two weeks ago, and 22 percent have returned them, according to the secretary of state's office.

The ballots will be tallied May 20 in the Democratic primary between Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"Faux News" is the proper term.

Also, you will need to use "Zionist Entity" when pandering to negotiating with Iranian mullahs.

It seems trivial, but you're RIGHT, the Muslim leaders CANNOT TALK ABOUT something which does not exist!

IF they even SAY THE WORD "Israel", they are ACKNOWLEDGING that Israel exists, and therefore CANNOT EVEN MUTTER THE HATED NAME!

My favorite Obama [Carter] quote from the weekend

He also attacked McCain's plan for a gas tax holiday to cope with rising pump prices, which Clinton supports, as well as his other environmental plans, saying the Republican had consistently opposed fuel efficiency standards.

"For him to come to Oregon as an environmental president, but his big strategy is to do more drilling and to have a gas tax holiday for three months, that's a phony solution," he said.

Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Yeah. We should ask "permission" I suppose as we drive and set room temps.
Phony solution. Rollback excise tax on gas. Do more drilling.
Yeah. Both of those sound like losing deals to me. Right.

Ive argued at length that a rollback in FET on motor fuels isnt a solution but a "relief" that folks might appreciate. Particularly truckers.

To insist that a rollback on FET will cause a direct increase
in consumption is absurd and slavish to economic theory.
What we are more likely to see...since gasoline is a "priority purchase"
and far more inelastic than some assume....is an obvious increase in other discretionary spending.
The net net is no different than the rebate checks.
The "payout" is different is all.

His position on drilling? Like so many others...its driven by polar bears
rather than survival.

IMO

When I was a kid, it wasn't illegal. Matter of fact that's where a lot of high schoolers got their first taste of WORKING for a living and dealing with capitalism. Nowdays, 'would you like your windshield cleaned and oil checked?' has become self service. It's no wonder kids don't know how to get along in the 'real' world. They don't have to work from the gitgo. (not to be confused with Citgo)

Last week, I saw something that I haven't seen for YEARS! There was an actual 'gas war' in Brighton, CO. The final price before a truce was called was $2.94/gallon. I laughed my butt off all through the traffic jam about the wonders of capitalism..... With the number of cars in the queue waiting for a pump to open, I'm sure they made more cash than they dreamed they would. If the tankers hadn't been there it would have ended a lot earlier than it did.

All of this is based on old, "LIMITED" concepts of economics: "There's ONLY A LIMITED AMOUNT AVAILABLE."

Today, we have limitless resources, in truth. We no longer harvest whales for whale-oil lighting because we (humans) create alternatives. We no longer harvest whalebone for corset-stays because we've created plastic alternatives (and done away with most corsets, thank God!)

But the whole O'bama thrust here is fear-of-loss: "Not enough to go around" and that, in itself, is falsehood. (see "God Wants YOU to Be Rich", PZPilzer)

I had to call the fire department and close down the station for an hour on a Friday afternoon. She was literally standing in the spreading puddle of gasoline when I realized what was happening and hit the e-stop button.

After the whole fiasco was over she actually asked me if she could get reimbursed for the gas that never made it into her tank. HA! You gotta be joking right?

McCain should simply repeat the quote above at the final debate. Look to Obama, say: You said this on, at: __________

look away, then say:

It sounds to me like Mr. Obama doesn't believe hard working Americans deserve to live in modest comfort, temperature wise, drive the car of our choice, or even eat what we like. Sounds like socialism to me. Obama as president, he'll have us all eating rocks in the cold!

Thats my point beyond the economic one.^^

You know? Its easy for economists to assume that a rollback in FET will cause some direct increase in consumption. But where is the everyday "proof"? Does consumption follow an exact relationship to price?
Not with motor fuels.
Gas is up 20% from a year ago and consumption [projected 08] can be called virtually flat [last I saw was a projected .3 % decrease].
So where is that assumed [by the experts] falloff that economic theory
demands? Obviously its not a direct/smooth line relationship....between gas price and consumption.
To assume that a tax rollback would trigger a consumption
increase....and cause behaviour different than we see with a normal falloff in gas prices is simply silly.

If you want people to conserve energy, Thats fine. We should all try to eliminate wasting energy. If we reduce consumption, then it will drive prices lower for everyone. But you don't get that point across by scolding people for using too much, it would be smarter to motivate them by pointing out it will save them money two ways. Initially because they will spend less as soon as they use less and eventually they will save even more once we collectively create a glut in the supply and the prices fall.

Greed is a powerful motivator. Use it!

re: #191 strandedsf

The minister he gave over $50,000 in just two years in order to support the dissemination of his hateful, anti-American, racist message?

I'm gonna pick at this for a second here:

He gave a large sum of money to an organization to help it further its message. That must certainly mean that he agrees with the message and endorses the spreading of said message.

But, he has claimed to never really heard the organizations message, particularly the ugly parts. That must certainly mean that he does not carefully scrutinize the things he gives significant financial support to.

So that makes him one of two things:

1) Someone who not only sympathizes with, but also consciously and financially supports a racist, troofer-istic, anti-American, hate filled agenda; or...

2) Someone who foolishly squanders large amounts of money on things that he doesn't have the slightest knowledge on.

Possessing either one of those qualities should disqualify a person from holding a high office, especially the highest office in the nation.

I may have said it before, but here goes. I give Oprah a pass for these reasons:

1) She made millions legally. That's capitalism and it's part of the American dream.

2) She gives $Millions to charity.

3) Using her huge platform (TV show) she successfully divided millions of dhimmis in a way in which which I don't feel we could have done.

I'll throw mud at others who I feel are more deserving.

Actually, bet most of you don't know that the only reason Oprah got the gig doing "AM Chicago", the precursor to her show, was pure luck.
The guy she replaced, Rob Weller, got in a contract dispute with WLS-TV CH. 7 in Chicago in the early 80's, and quit as host of the show.
ABC then hired Oprah from Memphis to replace Weller, and the rest is history.
BTW, Rob Weller now runs Weller-Grossman Productions. They produce a lot of shows for HGTV, The Food Network, etc.

And no one more gallon of gas will have been produced.

You cannot conserve us into energy independence. You can conserve us into destroying our economy and way of life.......

Her charity scores major points though... people need to take note on learning THAT is how it should be done. She pays all expenses for administration/operating costs and all donations go directly into that charity itself. She also checks up on it... well, maybe that school in Africa slipped through the cracks but she caught it. But, hey... it is Africa and a lot of naive people try doing the right thing and get taken over and over. I'm guessing there is a reason they call it a Nigerian scam and not a Denmark scam.

Remember the guy running for president in 2004 who nearly lost the election with the line:

It's a lot of hard work, ya know.

Do you remember why?
The empty message of Hard Work could only carry so far.

Well Obama's got the same problem with his Hope and Change message. He cannot fill-in what isn't there. GWB had something to fill with - Success and Victory in Iraq. Not retreat, loss, malaise and despair which is the offering of Obama.

I was just writing about this very thing in my "States Mis-Stated" post! My post doesn't focus so much on Obama himself, but how easy it is to make mistakes about the US states.

California's already got plans to attach a device to everyone's thermostat to adjust the temp should it be out of the normal range they designate. Initially it's purpose is to make adjustments when there's a threat of brown and blackouts.

This is my very favorite picture of Obama on the campaign trail. (Funny that it came from Oregon, a word that conjures up the image of a trail, no?)

Now who could ever look at that picture and not admit that Obama is a stand-up guy.

Is it in bad taste to ROFL at my own post? HA!

MY goodness...........the REAL Obama, flat, unidimensional, standing next to the tree trunk waiting for the dog to lift its leg and then complaining he got pissed on because he refused to move!

I have grave concerns for someone with the power of the Presidency, that can unabashedly decide to grant legitimacy to an individual like Ajad in Iran, by sitting down to "talk" without precondition.

We know the things they do. They collaborate with the worst of people in the world.

Rubbing elbows with David Duke, and every other vermin on the planet ready to deny history, Obama somehow finds the enemy to be Fox news, Republicans, and anyone criticizing his affiliation with less than savory players in society at large.

The level of contradiction in all of this, screaming from the graves at Normandy, the barren walls of Dachau, and the USS Arizona is louder than the bombs detonated between Hiroshima and Nagasaki, yet we are deaf to the sheer magnitude of what we are dancing with.

God help us.

Obama’s old pal loyal, despite divergent path

...
Obama spent the six years between 1979 and 1985 at Occidental College in Los Angeles and then in New York at Columbia University and in the workplace. His memoir, "Dreams from My Father," talks about this time, but not in great detail; former roommate Sohale Siddiqi, for example, is identified only as "Sadik" -- "a short, well-built Pakistani" who smoked marijuana, snorted cocaine and liked to party.

There sure as hell is something more going on. A few nights ago, another LGFer - I think Juante, discovered that Obama's campaign has been getting TONS of cash from "Americans" overseas, in such places as IRAN. All of course under the $200 reportable limit, but really, how many Americans can there possibly be in IRAN and some of the other ME countries where Obama's getting a LOT of money from?
And, it's (or was) right on Obama's website, IIRC, where overseas Americans had to indicate where they were from and all they had to do was check a box indicating that they were Americans!

Agreed. Hillary and McCain would fight tooth and nail over who is more of a centrist. But once nominated, I think Obama will take a sharp left turn.

He can't do that, unless he wants to lose. Libs have to run to the left to get nominated, then have to back-pedal to the center if they want to get elected.

My favorite email scam was supposedly from Suha Arafat.

Dear Friend:

This mail may not be surprising to you if you have been following current
events in the international media with reference to the Middle East and
Palestine in particular. I am Mrs. SUHA ARAFAT, the wife of YASSER ARAFAT,
the Palestinian leader who died recently in Paris. Since his death and even
prior to the announcement, I have been thrown into a state of antagonism,
confusion, humiliation, frustration and hopelessness by the present leadership
of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the new Prime Minister. I
have even been subjected to physical and psychological torture. As a widow
that is so traumatized,

I have lost confidence with everybody in the country at the moment. You
must have heard over the media reports and the Internet on the discovery
of some fund in my husband secret bank account and companies and the allegations
of some huge sums of money deposited by my husband in my name of which I
have refuses to disclose or give up to the corrupt Palestine Government.
In fact the total sum allegedly discovered by the Government so far is in
the tune of about $6.5 Billion Dollars. And they are not relenting on their
effort to make me poor for life. As you know, the Moslem community has no
regards for woman, hence my desire for a foreign assistance. I have deposited
the sum of 20 million dollars with a security firm abroad whose name is
withheld for now until we open communication. I shall be grateful if you
could receive this fund into your bank account for safe keeping and any
Investment opportunity.

This arrangement is known to you and my personal Attorney. He might be dealing
with you directly for security reasons as the case may be. In view of the
above, if you are willing to assist for our mutual benefits, we will have
to negotiate on your Percentage share of the $20,000,000 that will be kept
in your position for a while and invested in your name for my trust pending
when my Daughter, Zahwa, will come off age and take full responsibility
of her Family Estate/inheritance. Please note that this is a golden opportunity
that comes once in life time and more so, if you are hornet, I am going
to entrust more funds in your care as this is one of the legacy we keep
for our children. In case you don't accept please do not let me out to the
security and international media as I am giving you this information in
total trust and confidence I will greatly appreciate if you accept my proposal
in good faith. Please expedite action.

PLEASE I WILL NOT BE ATTENDING TO YOU AFTER THIS MAIL FOR SECURITY REASON,
ANY FURTHER RESPOND WILL BE FORWARDED TO OUR FAMILY ATTORNEY IN LONDON (Barrister
Batman Cole). YOU MAY CONTACT THE ATTORNEY DIRECT WITH YOUR FULL CONTACT

California's already got plans to attach a device to everyone's thermostat to adjust the temp should it be out of the normal range they designate. Initially it's purpose is to make adjustments when there's a threat of brown and blackouts.

Great. Fortunately, I don't live in CA. I'd have to move to Alaska. At 75 degrees, I get uncomfortable, and have difficulty concentrating and sleeping.
That's 75 where I am, not where the thermostat is.

So what are they going to do with window air conditioners? Ban them?

Hello! Yeah, it doesn't really come as a surprise to me; people who lack any sort of moral compass frequently are shallow and base individuals (see, e.g., Bill Clinton who NEVER made a move as President without doing some quiet polling first). The fact is that Obama is not very deep and is only "insightful" of what he needs to do to be POTUS.
That's why he stumble and mumbles so much when he's faced with questions for which he doesn't have a scripted response.

Ha ha ha! That reminds me of an old joke my grandma likes to tell:

A traveling salesman pulls into a rural town to ply his trade, and as he approaches the town square he sees a political rally underway that has drawn a very large crowd.

At the front of the crowd is a politician on a makeshift stage, speaking quite emotionally and making grand physical gestures, while the crowd is vigorously cheering and clapping.

Interested in what all the commotion is about he decides to listen in, but can't make out the speech between the accent and the noise of the crowd.

After several frustrating minutes of unsuccessfully trying to hear and decipher what the politician is going on about, and decides to query one of the locals. He notices a farmer at the very edge of the crowd that has been standing there quietly, not joining in on the cheering and clapping, and figures he'd be the best guy to ask. So he approaches him:

Salesman: "Howdy old timer, could you tell me just what that man is talking about"?

Farmer: "He ain't sayin'".

UN sanctions will flow like sweet honey from the rock and America will be saved, saved I tell you, from the ugly stain of doubt and resistance to the hope and change that awaits us in the Better World To Come.

Maybe it is the unfortunately onomatopoetic sound of his name coupled with the fact that the historic outcome of any UN action is a steaming pile of you know, his name.

One of the people yelled, "We can't hear you."

Then Pres. said, "Well, I can here you!" then went on to denounce all terrorists and terrorist allies...

Then Kerry and Silky Pony "Edwards" were on a train in 04' and totally bailed on a town that was waiting for them for like 5 hours overdue and the people were frustrated as hades and they said collectively speaking, "We didn't even get to hear them..."

And thinking they were kings of the Earth, they had the P.R. runners head back and say, "But they can hear you!" *Crickets*

re: #389 Billy Hank

Why is that I suspect "Doudou's" investigation will find rampant racism in Fox's (and blogs') coverage of the Divine Obama.

I said yesterday that I can see when McCain wins, the UN deciding to not recognize the results due to racism, and the US throws the UN out, helping to implement McCain's league of democracies.

OT

Is anybody else unable to connect to Pajamas Media websites? I can't get to Insty, Hot Air. or Jihad Watch right now.

OK. Now I can get into JW, but HA only loads halfway and then stops, and Insty won't connect at all.

I don't know how anyone could wade through millions in $200 contributions from overseas and verify that they are all from US citizens, but the Obama campaign appears to be putting that challenge to us all.

I wonder how many dead people from Chicago hopped planes to a foreign country, got jobs, and managed to donate to Obama's campaign.

IIRC the average contribution is $150. It would take forever to get through them all. Besides do they have to release the data before the election. What's the law?

we're all muslim you know and he's going to piss somebody off if he keeps denying it - so I assume, at some point, he *will* stop denying it.

after all, when he talks about his religion (which is maybe too often anyway, who does he think he is, Huckleberry?) he seldom mentions Jesus, and I don't think he's worried about the sensitivity of the Joos.

439 realwest  Sun, May 18, 2008 9:26:36pm

re: #434 jaunte I don't either my friend, but I'd reckon it wouldn't be hard with the contributions from Americans in Iran - you remember Iran - the nation we haven't had diplomatic relations for like 20 years, the nation that we ban all imports from or exports to, the nation to which we will not issue travel visas, THAT Iran?!
I mean, since the hostages were released after Ronald Reagan got them released, I sincerely doubt that many, IF ANY, Americans have (officially) gone to Iran, nor would they make political contributions while they were in Iran.

I heard a bioengineering student being interviewed on NPR this afternoon. He and his lab partner figured out a way to alter its smell from really bad to wintergreen.
