But if the doctrine of Fast-Fish be pretty generally applicable, the kindred doctrine of Loose-Fish is still more widely so. That is internationally and universally applicable.

What was America in 1492 but a loose-fish, in which Columbus struck the Spanish standard by way of waifing it for his royal master and mistress? What was Poland to the Czar? What Greece to the Turk? What India to England? What at last will Mexico be to the United States? All Loose-Fish.

What are the Rights of Man and the Liberties of the World but Loose-Fish? What all men's minds and opinions but Loose-Fish? What is the principle of religious belief in them but a Loose-Fish? What to the ostentatious smuggling verbalists are the thoughts of thinkers but Loose-Fish? What is the great globe itself but a Loose-Fish? And what are you, reader, but a Loose-Fish and a Fast-Fish, too?

Melville rocks.

Ever heard of this band?

Andrew Jackson Jihad

...For those unfamilar, Andrew Jackson Jihad are a two man "folk-punk" group consisting of acoustic guitar and standup bass. Following the trend of the album title, their most recent full-length contained songs about the most strange, yet extremely interesting topics. Lyrics about death, racism and other sometimes untouchable things juxtaposed with jangling feel-good folk jams. As for Only God Can Judge Me, it just adds more points onto the band's already successful scoreboard.

The lyrics are just as abrasive and blatant; "Human Kittens" discusses the death of small animals as a metaphor and "Candle in the Wind" states "I want to eat red, red, meat / I want to feel it digesting inside of my tummy / I support animal testing / I'd kill a kitten to save a human being." At times it is uncomfortable to listen to, but at the same time it is difficult to stop. In contrast to People, God has more slower tempos all over. The middle of the eight-song set ("Guilt: the Song" and "Candle in the Wind") are much less frantic than the majority of People, with impressive results. AJJ show that they are not a one-trick pony in this way.

Writermom,

Oooh-now I can talk Geek. My workplace was attacked with the SQL Injection...it was a big mess. Our web guy looked at me very seriously and said IT SOUNDS DISGUSTING DOESN'T IT BUT IT'S VERY SERIOUS.

Course, he has issues.

I like what I've seen of SQL thus far. I do a lot of data analysis so it could make my job much, much easier.

In terms of business solutions it's a Perfect 10.

Obama in Montana 5/20:

Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the region and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel's existence. It denies the Holocaust...

Obama in Oregon 5/19:

I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us....You know, Iran, they spend one-one hundredth of what we spend on the military. Confused turkey smashes into Texas courthouse window
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Turns out there was no need for window dressing after all. The confused wild turkey that smashed into a window at the Lubbock county courthouse Monday was laid out for a while, but eventually was able to fly away.

Now, I always thought that turkeys couldn't fly. But I guess that while the large domestic turkey is generally unable to fly, the smaller wild turkey can fly to several meters high.

And then there's always this incident.

Trolls and mobies are sick creatures ...

Both sick, but two completely different creatures.

Trolls, in blog terms, are folks that trawl for comments (hence, dubbed "trolls") by posting something that is designed to generate a large amount of responses. More often then not they post something deemed to be inflammatory, as that will get the most responses. Trolls are attention whores, most often seeking negative attention.

Mobies are a different kind of creature, and a far more despicable type. Mobies are poseurs that creep onto blogs pretending to be conservatives. Under this guise they then post disgusting, deplorable comments in order to call false, negative attention to the host blog in an effort to discredit the host. These childish, reprehensible scumbags are dubbed mobies for the musician Moby, who publicly encouraged progressives/socialists to engage in this low class tactic.

If anyone has already posted this, and I have missed it, I apologize.

Both the Jerusalem Post and Galei Zahal (Israel Army Radio) have reported the Bush Administration intention to attack Iran prior to the expiration of his term. The Bush administration has denied this report.

Some things to consider :
1) Neither Israel or the U.S. sought to prevent the recent Hezbollah gains in Lebanon against the Sunni Muslims and Druze. The message has been sent to the Saudis and other Sunni governments that Iran will increasingly destabilize the region in order to gain control, unless they sign on to attacking Iran. The Sunnis and Saudis will fall in line in support of an attack on Iran as a result. The Iranians scare the Saudis much more than George Bush, as a Shi'ite crescent will cause unrest in the Saudi kingdom.

2) Ehud Olmert is in the process of going down as Prime Minister on corruption issues at a very curious time. The Israeli military elite has been opposed to Olmert for some time, and Ehud Barak, the Defence Minister, recognizes that Labor can never succeed, or he can become PM again instead of Netanyahu, unless the problems of Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran are handled. Livni may become a figurehead PM if Olmert resigns, but Barak and Netanyahu figure to fight it out in an election for PM.

Ahmadinejad should be crapping his pants, if he wasn't mentally living down the well with the hidden Mahdi.

We have wild turkeys that live on the hill behind the house, and they most definitely can fly. They don't like to, but they do. And it is something having one big bird flapping around 20 feet over your head! I wish I had my camera with me that time.
And my larger dogs wish they'd come a bit further down the hill, on the other side of the invisible fence line. But they don't, not if the dogs are out.

Ahmadinejad should be crapping his pants, if he wasn't mentally living down the well with the hidden Mahdi.

No, Ahamdmanonjihad is counting his virgins. He thinks this war will bring out the Mahdi. He wants it, and if all of Iran gets obliterated, well, they'll all be in paradise. Then the Mahdi comes and wipes out the Jews, and the caliphate is restored. Hell on Earth.
Sorry, but it works the other way. He and the Islamists lose, and the Messiah comes. Israel, and the true G-d wins.

We have wild turkeys that live on the hill behind the house, and they most definitely can fly.

On Mothers' Day about 15 -20 flew the 50 yards over water from my sister's house to my mom's place. It was hilarious watching them run/waddle down the hill to the water's edge to get up enough steam.

I informed my friends that if I ever mentioned remodeling again they were to assume that I'd been abducted by aliens, and a changeling left in my place.

Yes, I know, it's the fairies who leave changelings, but you know what I mean.

well, I'm not gonna sqawk. Hell, the only reason I'm surmising that Charles hadn't banned my foul butt yet is that he knows I don't have a life, and that I'm puuting three daughters through college and don't have two nickels to rub together...

They are the first of many who are going to go out of business. The fuel surcharges are simply not keeping up with the true costs of running a truck. Trucking Companies are too worried that if they pass their costs along the customers will walk away. What is worse? Having to look for new customers in a tough market or shutting your doors. The economy hasn't begun to see the true costs yet associated with transporting products to shelves.

And who is it exactly who wants us to be liked, and to pass a global test before we defend ourselves or our friends? Who is it who says "why don't they like us?"

313 freedombilly  Tue, May 20, 2008 2:24:35pm

Are you sitting down?

I turned on my radio this morning and it was on WWWT from last night's Nationals game. The Stephanie Miller show was on the air. Every once in a while I like to listen for as long as I can (about five minutes on a really patient day). Today's nuggets of wisdom:

If Al Gore was President (and predictably they pointed out that he won the popular vote because who needs the constitution or the electoral college) there would not have been a 9/11 because he would have paid attention to the daily briefings!

One of her sidekicks also chimed in that Gore would have performed an "end around" on global warming and gotten in front of it. He then chimed in that it is too late to do anything about global warming to which she replied "Don't say that!".

Great, it is agreed that there is nothing we can do about global warming. So leave me and my SUV, my 72 degree house, and my daily feasting alone!

Any chance?

Customer consolidation is what they are doing. I don't think that they are doing it for the equipment or people that come along with it. They'll cull the customer list and shed what doesn't make sense. The business is brutal.

I'm pessimistic.

In the first three months of this year, 935 trucking companies failed. That’s nearly 50 percent more than in the fourth quarter of 2007 and the highest level since the third quarter of 2001, according to Donald Broughton, transportation analyst for institutional investment firm Avondale Partners. And the 935 carriers weren’t all tiny operations, either; only carriers with at least five power units are counted, and Broughton found that the average fleet size was 45 trucks.

That is it in a nutshell. Deadhead miles are a killer when fuel is $4.50 a gallon. Never in my life would I have imagined that fuel would get this high without a national emergency being the reason behind it. This actually is a national emergency.

Very intelligent people, Which makes me a bit nervous to comment. 2.) Your humor cracks me up, I had to visit the LGF Dictionary a few times to catch a few things.

Now after saying that I wanted to ask if any of you know if Bill Whittle is still working on EjectEjectEject? I can't even begin to count how many times I have read his essays and I am thirsting for more. The only reason for asking everyone here is I noticed he has posted on here previously and I thought someone might actually know him.

Never in my life would I have imagined that fuel would get this high without a national emergency being the reason behind it. This actually is a national emergency.

I own a company that services business equipment on the customer's site. When gas hit $3.25/gallon I had to introduce a fuel surcharge to my customer's bills to offset increasing costs. Some customers notified me that they would not pay fuel surcharges and others just deducted it from their bills. I had no choice but to increase my labor rates to offset increased operating expenses. Now gas here is approaching $4.15/gallon, do I increase my labor rates again? How many times can we, in the industry, do this before our customers start looking elsewhere? I am a small business that has survived for 26 years. If this insanity continues, I question how long that I, as well as many others, can survive?

372 Tuxedo  Tue, May 20, 2008 4:49:57pm

Earlier today there was an article on Fox News which seems to have been pulled, but I see there is still the same article on Ha'aretz.
The facts of the article are that some Orthodox Jews collected and burned copies of the new testament distrubted by missionaries.
But: this was portrayed as "another act of violence against Christians".
Then they cite a previous bombing of a missionaries house - in the west bank.
There are actual acts of violence being committed against Christians - but I think you'll find those in Iraq, in Indonesia, in Pakistan, in Saudi Arabia - well, you get the idea.
