Eurofascists Jockeying for Legitimacy

Wed, May 21, 2008 at 6:11:02 pm PDT

Following the collapse last year of the crypto-fascist European Parliament group called Identity Tradition Sovereignty (ITS), the British National Party’s Neanderthal leader Nick Griffin is reaching out to the Belgian Vlaams Belang, the French National Front, and the Austrian Freedom Party: Disquiet in the BNP over a strange invitation.

Some longstanding members of the BNP have been asking why Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, took time out from the election campaign only three days before polling day to attend a secret meeting in London with three leading European extremist politicians, one of whom has a recent conviction for Holocaust denial.

Initially billed as a press conference, its true purpose seems to have been to further Griffin’s ambition to become a Member of the European Parliament by building links with far-right MEPs.

The meeting had been organised by Arthur Kemp, the former agent for the South African apartheid regime and now keeper of the BNP’s ideological Holy Grail. Making the arrangements on behalf of the visitors was Georg Mayer, a senior officer in the Austrian Freedom Party. Mayer had also acted as the spokesperson for the short-lived Identity Tradition Sovereignty (ITS) group in the European Parliament until its collapse late last year when five ultra-nationalist Romanian MEPs walked out in protest at anti-Romanian remarks by their Italian colleague Alessandra Mussolini, the dictator’s granddaughter.

Their ill-conceived plan was to send out invitations to the media to attend the press conference only a short time in advance. Initially three MEPs were down to attend, then fairly late in the day Marie-Rose Morel, a member of the Flemish Parliament for the extreme-right Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) and former Flemish beauty queen, said she would come along too.

The star guests were to be Bruno Gollnisch, a French MEP and vice president of the far-right National Front, and Andreas Mölzer, an Austrian MEP and leading member of the Austrian Freedom Party.

Their presence revealed the true face of the BNP and confirmed Griffin’s continued failure to break away from Holocaust denial and antisemitism. In January 2007 a French court handed Gollnisch a three-month suspended prison sentence and fined him €5,000 (£4,000) for denying the Holocaust. The court in Lyon found he had “disputed a crime against humanity” in remarks he made during a news conference in the city in October 2004.

Gollnisch, who was chair of the ITS group, had questioned the number of Jews who died in the Holocaust and said the “existence of the gas chambers is for historians to discuss”.

Mölzer is the publisher of Zur Zeit, an Austrian political magazine in which racism, antisemitism and xenophobia are staple features. Its recent promotion of openly Nazi and antisemitic books prompted the Berlin weekly Junge Freiheit, on which Zur Zeit was originally modelled, to sever all connections. All that did not stop Griffin giving an interview to Zur Zeit earlier this year, in which he assured Mölzer of his firm belief in “nationalist cooperation” to deal with the “Islamic threat” and “the tide of Third World immigration” and to oppose the entry of Turkey into the EU.

The third MEP who was due to come was Philip Claeys, a VB MEP who was the vice-chair of the ITS. He did not want to show his face at the press conference but was keen to join a private meeting.

And in the game of “Six Degrees of Adolf Hitler,” here we see Pat Buchanan meeting with Filip DeWinter and Frank Vanhecke of the Belgian Vlaams Belang in 2007:

We're gonna have to fight these losers at some point..if it's bound to happen anyhow,I sure hope it happens while I still have some kick left in me..I see no difference between this and the jihad..

What about Merv Griffen? Where does he fit into all this?

7 Steffan  Wed, May 21, 2008 6:18:16pm

I wonder which of them has the brown shirt concession?

Ought to be very popular at meetings like that.

The weird thing about Buchanan's love for Der Fuehrer is that
the Irish never cut the mustard with the Aryan crowd.

Any Scandinavian who wanted to buy into the whole Nazi thing was welcomed with open arms, but in a Nazi-dominated Europe, I do not believe that the Irish would have fared too well.

Where is his self-pride?

then fairly late in the day Marie-Rose Morel, a member of the Flemish Parliament for the extreme-right Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) and former Flemish beauty queen, said she would come along too.

But vb's not so bad, right? We should ally with them? I mean- their friends seem so nice.

We can barely deal with changing the minds of citizens in our midst who think communism is great despite historical evidence that proves otherwise.

How can we cope with Nazi mentality?

Western civilzation is under assault by many of their own citizens.

Having recently read Jonah Goldberg's excellent book, "Liberal Fascism", I think it would be better to identify these very objectionable groups as something other than "fascists" or "neo-fascists". What is most objectionable about the European groups you reference is their ultra-nationalism, racism, anti-semitism, and xenophobia. The fascist impulse to unite their core ethnic and national group around these shared hatreds of "others" is indeed present, but the fascist impulse there is only more loathsome than the "friendly" American progressive fascism because of these nasty underlying principles. Let's keep separate our dislike of fascism itself, including our indigenous American form, from our loathing of the organized hatred of "other" social groups, of which these European groups are also emblematic.

The irony is that whatever alliance these creeps manage to cobble together, will like the ITS, fall apart once one of its members objects to the ethnic slurs it will endure from another.

The prime motive of each of these groups, ethnic supremacism, makes them essentially incapable of working cooperatively with other ethnic groups, especially with other ethnic supremacist groups.

OT - Whoa, Sorry if it's redundant.

NY Post

OBAMA TO A'JAD: ATOMIC ASSIST

Ali Larijani, Iran's former nuclear negotiator and now a Majlis member, was arguing that the Islamic Republic would pay a heavy price for Ahmadinejad's rejection of three UN Security Council resolutions on nukes. Then the likely Democratic presidential nominee stepped in.

Obama announced that, if elected, he wouldn't ask Iran to comply with UN resolutions as a precondition for direct talks with Ahmadinejad: "Preconditions, as it applies to a country like Iran, for example, was a term of art. Because this administration has been very clear that it will not have direct negotiations with Iran until Iran has met preconditions that are essentially what Iran views, and many other observers would view, as the subject of the negotiations; for example, their nuclear program."

Apparently Pat Buchanan forgot to pay the $15 to have his bag checked on the plane, you know the one with his mind in it.

It never ceases to amaze me how people that are legitimate figures in the media or politics keep meeting with nut-jobs. Don't they do any research? If someone approaches you and says "Hi, my name is..." you don't have to be rude, but once it's clear who this is and what they stand for...no matter what their recipe for beer bratwurst might be, you have to bail.

This character hates Jews because when he was a kid, his parents told him the Jews stole the "Ph" from his name, and they had to scrounge up a stinking "F" just so he could register for school.

OT:

Update from some missionaries inside Burma:

....[W]onderful response for the relief efforts in [Burma]. We have sent over some money already and will continue to send over more as it comes in. Here are some excerpts from e-mails we have received this week:
-----
"I myself with some of my friends had personally been to the storm-hit areas and saw how great the basic needs of the victims was, such as food, shelter, water etc. I am still collecting whatever we can get here with my friends to visit those suffering people....Please share with all of your friends there the very great needs we have here that are not being yet being met."
-----
"As I mentioned before, our friends...have lost their homes and they stay in small temporary tents. (these two areas mentioned are a house church among the very poor Buddhist people and another area about 30 miles out of town which is nearby a prison...In both areas, they lived in bamboo shacks - now obliterated). We have no idea how to help our dear friends because the needs are so huge and it is more than we can do for them. [W]e visit them every day...Some were getting sick because of the flood and we give them medicines. When we give rice to our friends, the next day thousands of their friends have also come to us! We are amazed for this thing and we don't know what to do. They were thrilled for your love gifts of food and water and it means so much for them. There is no ferry boat to get across the river anymore so we have to take a small boat which is very dangerous because of the floods..."
-----
"Thank you so much for your help to repair our own house...I am carefully using your...money...for most needed area. We went to the market and got some...umbrellas, ...sandals, under wares, and school needs for the...orphans. Our Pig Daddy (her term for the government ;-) announced that all students must enroll by the end of this month. (this means they have to register and pay $25 per child. Imagine all of these people so devastated by the storm coming up with a month's pay per child to enroll them in school!) We will...use wisely the rest for helping the children as much as possible. Please tell everyone who are helping us; we have unspeakable thanks to them..."
-----
...We...submitted our visa applications a week ago last Monday. On Friday, the embassy told us that "all visas are on hold". And this Monday they said that we must write a letter explaining the purpose of our trip and tell them everywhere we are going, what we will be doing and who we will be seeing!...This does indicate to us that things may be more carefully watched over there even than before...We know for sure we can't personally hand out any relief items without causing notice and we've even heard that some foreign relief workers have been arrested. So, we'll lay low and allow our national workers to do that. But we feel that we can be a great encouragement to them and we will bring them to us to stay at our hotel so they can have a respite from all of the suffering. We can feed them, give them a dry, cool place to stay for a few days...They have seen very terrible things and I'm sure they all need some counseling - as all relief workers need who deal with any long term disaster situation...Two of our party...are nurses so they can be of practical assistance...

I've gotten about a dozen emails today from people pissed off at me because I wouldn't allow Ted Kennedy bashing, by the way.

Unfortunately, crappy behavior on the web is not the sole province of the left.

Clarify something for me for a moment, if you would:

Hammering Kennedy for being an out touch liberal is alright, but wishing death, being gleeful of another person's suffering, etc. is not---right? Or is it that all bashing is not cool just because it's too soon after his is diagnosed with a tough break? Either way cool.

Just want a ruling from the umpire for future reference.

I'm not even interested in trying an experiment like that. I've already experienced what blog comments can be like if you don't take charge (the pre-registration days at LGF), and I'm not a masochist.

That's completely understandable given the stature of LGF, the high volume of comments, and the higher number of lurkers ready to pounce.

I just read through the comments on that experimental thread, all 39 of them collected during a 14 hour period. 4 of them were from the blog editors themselves. In the other 35 comments, there were scattered remarks critical of Kennedy's political positions, his behavior at Chappaquiddick, and the Kennedy "mystique" in general. I didn't recall seeing anything "over the line".

Can we PLEASE get the UN out of our country. Released today..

PRESS CONFERENCE TO LAUNCH NEW REPORT ON THREAT OF GLOBAL TERRORISM

Just 1 per cent of Afghans felt strong support for the Taliban, and in north-west Pakistan, Osama bin Laden’s popularity had dropped from 70 per cent in 2007 to just 4 per cent in 2008, he said. That could lead to the conclusion that, as terrorism went up, support went down. The fact that about 2,000 people a year were killed in terrorist acts should be put in perspective. An estimated 500,000 people were murdered annually and one million died from traffic accidents. The threats of Al-Qaida were real, but terrorism posed no threat to civilization.

And this :

Whether Iran supported or even exported terrorism was hard to say, he said, in response to another question, noting that such statements were based on “murky” intelligence and depended also on the definition of terrorism. Iran certainly did not support the Sunni Al-Qaida in Iraq.

We are destroying ourselves from within allowing this to continue.

I left a parking garage with valet service this week with a 40-something attractive blonde woman holding a high-end shopping back as she waited for her car. She seemed nice enough, even when she caught me looking at her a second time (hey, I didn't stare, but she was attractive). Her vehicle showed up and it was a black Lexus SUV. Cool enough.

My car was up next. I get in and as soon as I am out in the sunshine I see an Obama sticker in her rear window.

Quoth Robert Gates, in this story Commander: Al-Qaida in Iraq is at its weakest

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the Islamic extremist movements like al-Qaida have been "built on an illusion of success" yet in some ways pose a more daunting challenge today than on Sept. 11, 2001. Gates described these extremist groups as more diffuse and less reliant on a single figure like Osama bin Laden.

"It has become an independent force of its own, capable of animating a corps of devoted followers without direct contact," Gates told an international conference sponsored by U.S. Special Operations Command. He said this adversary is now "capable of inspiring violence without direct orders."

Boy I wonder what the "it" is that can inspire diffused devoted followers to commit violence in its name, without any direct orders.

Was born in Bangkok Christian Hospital, Silom Road. 1955.

Lived in Lopburi and Bangkok after that for many, many years.

Can you make real khaophat? I can't, but I cannot abide by paying over 10 bucks for a plate of it at a wannabe restaurant that has no Thais in sight when I go in...

I have a friend who used to work as a nurse at BCH. But I thought it was on Convent, closer to Sathorn? Close to Christ Church? Oh well. The Silom area has a couple of decent Irish pubs. And more than a few Asia Books.

But there is a good Indian place on Surawong called "India Hut". They took over a Pizza Hut location and used a bit of their logo.

Ah, I miss it.

I don't know about that...while my age might be a detriment here, I think I can come up with some examples...

Nixon/McGovern: wow, there was a real inspiring match up
Bush 41/Clinton/Perot: in a world of choices, none seemed more than a plurality.
Ford/Carter: Uninsipiring vs. the hick peanut farmer?

Seems like a few cases of "the lesser of two evils".

I was thinking of the '76 election myself. Although I don't think anyone considered either Ford or Carter evil at the time. I still don't think there's anyone that believes that Ford was evil.

OMG! That guy is a complete fucking moron!

He said part of the decline was due to tactical successes in the “war on terror” -- sanctuary denied, leaders killed and networks disrupted -– but mostly because Islamist terrorist organizations had “shot themselves in the foot”. Al-Qaida in Iraq, for instance, had angered even Sunni Iraqis by its indiscriminate violence against civilians, and some recent polls showed that “100 per cent” of Iraqis thought the attacks were unacceptable

No dumbass. They didn't shoot themselves in the foot. A 2000# JDAM landed on their "safe house". Or with a Hellfire missile hit their car. Or they got shot up by the infidels.

So the story has gone from "We can't win" to "It was no big deal". What a dick.

I think the phrase "lesser of two evils" is a bit elastic. I don't think most of these guys were evil in an objective sense (although Jimmy Carter is really campaigning hard in his post-presidency), I think it also means a choice between uninspiring candidates with flaws-either political or personal. So "evil" isn't really "evil". Alright?

There's so much wrong with that piece of toilet paper, it's a pick and choose...

Stressing that the drop in terrorism was a net decline, he said incidents in Algeria and Pakistan had gone up, but terrorist activity in Algiers was small compared to what it had been in the 1990s. Islamist terror groups lacked the support they had enjoyed in that decade as they had alienated the population to such an extent that it had started to cooperate with the authorities.

But that didn't happen in Iraq...

As of 2007, Chapman has been married to Mary Beth Chapman (they shared the same last name prior to their marriage) for 23 years. The couple met in the early 80s at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana and married in the fall of 1984. They currently live in Franklin, Tennessee, and have three biological children (Emily Elizabeth, Caleb Stevenson, Will Franklin) and three adopted daughters from China (Shaohannah Hope Yan, Stevey Joy Ru, Maria Sue Chapman). Chapman and his sons recorded under the name of "Stevenson" for the 2003 Veggie Rocks CD. (Song: "I Love My Lips", VeggieTales).

I'll worry about any Moslem refugees from Europe, when, and if, the Europeans actually succeed in driving them out.

1. Europeans aren't reproducing. Before too much longer, the immigrant Moslem populations are going to outnumber the native born European ones. How are they going to amass the army necessary to drive the Moslem population out? Or, are they going to ask the good ol' USA to come save them again?

2. Even if they do attempt to drive them out, there's no guarantee the Moslems are going to go without a fight. In which case, the refugees we'd be getting would be European ones---and, probably, Jews, either fleeing from the jihadis, or having been kicked out by the Euros, in a futile attempt to pacify the Islamists.

What have they actually done, by the way, aside from questioning the Holocaust (that'll stop the jihadis!), making speeches and forming weird alliances with each other? If they really want to help their countries, why don't they join their respective armies, police, or work to scrap their welfare system? Ok guys, sorry, I tried. Just can't play along after hearing about Steven Curtis Chapman. It really got to me.

See you tomorrow. Listen to this, for tonight for the Steven Curtis Chapman story...

[Link: www.youtube.com...]

at least for me.

I dig that, FBV. I cried, and prayed, and cried again. And felt peace.

May their family feel tonight and in the days to follow that all-encompassing peace that goes beyond our understanding.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that story from the other day----European Nazis, beating up feminists. You go, guys! THAT'LL show those jihadis! Woo-hooo, I'll bet that's got all those car burning French "youths" quaking in terror!

/Sarc.---what else?

I am sooooo (*(*&&^^%%&^& sick of hearing how these guys are Europe's only hope. If that's the case, Europe's finished, toasted, stick a fork in her, she's done!

(Not.)

I promise, I'll have the government buy services from small, innovative small companies.
And I'll support backing private ownership of resources in space; that's the only way we'll get there economically.

"why don't they ...... work to scrap their welfare system?"

Socialism (and their socialist political parties) won't permit it.
But that would get rid a LOT of them, if only they would be re-accepted in their home country.

239 MandyManners  Wed, May 21, 2008 8:54:36pm

I DON'T FUCKING BELIEVE IT.

At least seven people attending a festival promoting feminism were assaulted on Sunday evening by a group of neo-Nazis in a small Swedish village.

One man was left needing hospital treatment after he was attacked with a metal pipe by an unidentified gang in Österfärnebo in east central Sweden.

“The men drove around the area in a car, shouting ‘sieg heil’ and doing a Nazi salute,” police investigator Kalju Poltrago told newspaper Upsala Nya Tidning.

And, that thread got ONE comment?

I'm disgusted.

I just saw the video that someone stuck up on the Russians getting killed in Chechnya.

I know they were russians because i just happen to understand Russian. So watching these Islamic butchers do their thing while the Russian soldiers underneath them are pleading for their lives, it might as well have been Americans.

I watched it the once. And I dont think I am going to let myself forget.

Not one iota.

re: #239 MandyManners

Mandy, sometimes it's all some of us can do to keep up with the topics of the current threads and google all the stuff that is mentioned in the posts! I don't hit on the spinoff links much, because I'll get lost in the topic that's currently being discussed.

It's not that I don't care that this happened, I just didn't know it did.

245 jaunte  Wed, May 21, 2008 8:57:54pm

I have to make a comment about MacGregor's spinoff link upstairs:
My business partner, who has spent the last 15 years or more with a cell-phone near his head, has had two brain surgeries recently to remove "schwannomas," and is now deaf in one ear. Read the whole thing, and be warned. Use the cell sparingly.

Acoustic neuromas, also called schwannomas, are a non-cancerous tumor that develops on the nerve that connects the ear to the brain. The tumor usually grows slowly. As it grows, it presses against the nerves responsible for hearing and balance. Radiosurgery is usually the standard treatment.

Signs and symptoms of acoustic neuromas may include hearing loss, usually gradual — although in some cases sudden — and occurring on only one side or more pronounced on one side, ringing (tinnitus) in the affected ear, dizziness (vertigo), loss of balance, facial numbness and tingling. The tumor also may press on the brainstem and in rare cases, it may grow large enough to compress the brainstem and be life-threatening.

StevieRay are you lurking? That is a great article about fauxtography posted in the top rated links/blogosphere. LGF/Charles mentioned several times.

I've been in and out of here this evening. The article also gives bigtime kudo's to Zombie, Jawa, Allahpundit, and a bunch of others. Apparently, the blogosphere is both emulating and updating the best of academic research. Follow the link Killgore posted in comment #218 to view the article. As they say... read it all!

Well, to be honest, I don't look at every spinoff link. Sometimes I don't look at any all day, mainly because I get caught up in the main threads and forget to look.

The story is awful, though, and I'm grateful that Sharmuta posted it and you've brought it to the forefront- these are the type of guys that the BNP and BV are looking to for the hope of the Continent. Sick.

Students of the Students Association of the Austrian Freedom Party use the university courses for their history revisionism. They always come as a pair, one is bulling the prof's, the other is leading him and down writing everything what is said. The silent one's are always eager to find "Jewish" sources against Islam. Only Jewish sources, they are not interested in "Christian" ones.

Their goal is to use the Jews against Islam. So we have decided not to feed them anymore and discuss everything about Islam among each other or with the prof's per e-mail or phone.

254 Syrah  Thu, May 22, 2008 6:25:21am

re: #253 Gambini

Mayors do not rule nations.

Neo-fascist, anti-semitic and anti-American politicians in Europe can only make Europe an anathema to Americans who would otherwise be inclined to side with Europeans against the Islamist threat.

If, as you suggest without attribution, that Geert were to side with VB or BNP and such like, we would heap scorn and derision on him as much as we do Filip DeWinter and Nick Griffen.

Americans will not side with Nazi's.

255 JungleJim  Thu, May 22, 2008 7:06:58am

So when Neville Chamberlain met with Hitler, did that make him a fascist too?

Just because a politician from Vlaams Belang meets with someone, does not imply that they agree with them on all issues.

This is yet another unsubstantiated smear of Vlaams Belang.

Unfortunately, crappy behavior on the web is not the sole province of the left.

There is no need to bash the man...he has spent a lifetime bashing himself ...& there IS a God. But finally, most of us here will never know what it is to carry the responsibility of the death of another human being, &, two brothers assassinated. He is getting ready to face a merciful & righteous God....so will we all.

re: #255 JungleJim

No, it didn't make Chamberlain a facist.

It made him a fool.

To meet with someone in order to discuss things with them does imply that you think they're reasonable, and that you have things you can talk over with them rationally. It Chamberlain's case, this was a mistake. I think it's a mistake with any facist, anti-Jewish, anti-American group. If Vlaams Belang is doing this, it shows either an incredible lack of judgment, or that they support these groups' goals. Take your pick.

259 TalkinKamel  Thu, May 22, 2008 8:29:10am

You guys just don't get it. We keep saying America will not side with facists, and you guys keep coming back with, "But what if. . . !" "But suppose Geert Wilders (or any other prominent European) supports them?" "But they're the only ones. . . " "But---but---but.. . "

You just don't get it, do you, even though we keep telling you.

266 pankukas  Thu, May 22, 2008 10:42:37am

Mr. Johnson,

At a risk of having my outlook *ahem* fingered, do you not think including the following quote:

"They were two short. Claeys, already nervous, had pulled out as had Morel, so it was just the beasts without the beauty."

would clear it up for some readers that Vlaams Belang people did not attend?

However credible source about the mental state of Claeys or his and Morel's reasons of not attending one of the anti-BNPactivists "main moles in the BNP hierarchy" might have been, the article says the Flemish folks were not there, yet the way the quoted part is worded might leave a mistaken impression that they were.

268 TalkinKamel  Thu, May 22, 2008 1:46:58pm

re: #267 Thanos

It's pretty obvious that these guys are going to go after Gypsies, Roms, anybody they consider "untermenschen", feminists, and, of course, Jews. I seriously doubt they're going to go after Islamofacism. In fact, if memory serves, the Nazis were firmly allied with Islam during WWII.
