Jimmy Carter's Peace Partners Attack Israel Again

Thu, May 22, 2008 at 8:10:01 am PDT

This time it was a four-ton truck bomb, stopped by vigilant security guards before it could cross the Gaza border: Palestinian truck bomber attacks border crossing.

GAZA (Reuters) - A truck laden with four tonnes of explosives blew up near an Israeli border crossing with the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Thursday but only the suicide bomber was killed in the blast heard 30 km (18 miles) away.

Amazingly, even after this, Reuters Palestinian propagandist Nidal al-Mughrabi still parrots the Hamas talking points about opening the border:

Egyptian efforts to secure a Gaza truce to end Israeli raids and cross-border rocket attacks by militants have so far been unsuccessful. Hamas said Israel’s refusal to agree to reopen borders as soon as a truce goes into effect was delaying a deal.

Isn't this the crossing that Condi Rice has been hammering the Israelis to open up?

There will be no peace as long as there is Hamas. The destruction of Hamas is the first step on the road to true peace.

That would be all of them. But at least she isn't demanding Israel drive them to their targets. Yet.

Looks like you need to make a correction Charles.

"A spokesman for Islamic Jihad said his group carried out the attempted attack in cooperation with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an offshoot of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's more secular Fatah faction. Jihad described it as a successful martyrdom operation."

What is funny is that we - as in the US Government - is now working with a "palestinian insurance company" to provide "insurance" for their "exports." Up to $75K per shipment. Are we going to pay off on this kind of shipment too?

Slightly OT

Speaking of Israel's "peace" partners -- and of the Hezbollah in Lebanon -- it appears that the government has caved in to a Hezbollah demand. Hezbollah now has veto power (never before in the constitution of Lebanon has a single ethnic bloc been granted any powers over another ethnic bloc) over government decisions. (I figure it's the equivalent of a non-violent coup...)

No way, 4 tons of explosive could have taken out much of Gaza City- and I'd be happy to see it go at the hands of Hamas. Of course, then Israel would be blamed because of the difficulty of allowing these "products" into Israel.

Here's what it says on the OPIC website:

The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) was established as an agency of the U.S. government in 1971. OPIC helps U.S. businesses invest overseas, fosters economic development in new and emerging markets, complements the private sector in managing risks associated with foreign direct investment, and supports U.S. foreign policy. Because OPIC charges market-based fees for its products, it operates on a self-sustaining basis at no net cost to taxpayers.

Those policies better have a laundry list of disclaimers - or a hell of a price tag.

The balls to simultaneously take a potshot at Israel while reporting a 4-ton truck bomb perpetrated most likely by HAMAS is stunning, but not surprising. As long as AP and Reuters along with the maintstream Western media continue to consume their "reports" (propaganda) are ideologically tied with terrorism then this won't stop. Leftists have to decide which is worse: Islamism or Conservatism.

It's a no-brainer, but I'm not sure they're capable of seeing what happens to Leftists when Islamists are in power.

I thought 'secular' sunni or even shia 'insurgents' such as the PA or Al Aqsa, could never cooperate with 'islamist' groups like Islamic Jihad (are we allowed to say Islamic and Jihad in the same breath under the new rules, or is it now the ROP Personal Improvement Organization that set off a four ton bomb?) Thank God only the homicidal maniac got killed. I hope he is roasting like a marshmellow in hell right now.
As for Al Reuters saying that bad and mean old Israel is refusing to remove checkpoints in the same story about how that checkpoint stopped a four ton bomb from being allowed to commit mayhem inside Israel proper (one wonders where its final destination was) is a real candidate for a Fiskie Award For Dhimmi Reporting in fauxjournalism.
And it's the height of chutzpah to boot.

52 Maine's Michael  5/22/08 9:18:16 am reply quote

Jeez, but Hamas won their election fair and square. They are a democratically elected government, and we are all about democracy.

Condi told us that we had to let them run in the PA election, and that if they won, it would have a moderating influence on them because they would then have to pick up the garbage, run the schools, and so on.

As Condi and W are never wrong, I can only conclude that this truck filled with 4500 lbs of high explosive did not really explode.

Even besides the craziness of insuring Palestinian goods (which is pretty crazy), does anyone actually believe that the government can be a competent insurance company? Don't we have a private sector for things like this?
