Barack Obama’s ad hoc, make-it-up-as-we-go foreign policy is so pathetic that even the Associated Press is beginning to notice: Obama’s outreach to US foes is questionable.

When I hear Bobby Jindal speak, he sounds so real and down to earth. Obama on the other hand sounds so overly polished, phony and full of major hot air. He gives me the creeps! Jindal on the other hand would be a shoe in for McCain! I've listened to Bobby on local radio over the years before he was gov - he always checked in to let us know what he was doing and how things were going. He is a very dedicated and hard working, sincere man who I would feel a lot of comfort if he takes up the offer! He loves Louisiana and he loves the US.

Clinton called him naive. She said she would not risk the prestige of the presidency by negotiating directly with countries such as Iran until they had agreed to change their ways.Obama called that a case of old Washington thinking.
Well, in this case, I happen to like "old Washington thinking" and I'm guessing I'm not alone, as millions of American's agree. Even Hillary- man... that's bad.

I had those on my wedding day. But my brother in law to be was late ( should have known taken that as a hint ) so I started drinking. I was pretty happy by the time the Rabbi said he had to leave soon because he had a funeral to go to. I told him the stiff wasn't going anywhere and my brother in law soon arrived. I don't remember much after that but I guess i went thru with it, I am still married 25 years later.

That sword cuts both ways, if Hillary were to get the nomination at the convention she would be harder to beat than Obama. If she were to take the VP spot (unlikely IMHO) that would be bad for us. If her intention is to destroy Obama in the general election, more power to her. If the Dem. Convention becomes a bloodbath, thats best of all!

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton plumbing the depths of Obama's ignorance on foreign policy
here's the some of the transcript:
JB: I think the, we haven’t plumbed the depths of that ignorance yet, but I wouldn’t count on the mainstream media to do it during the course of the campaign. Look, he has led a very cosseted, privileged existence in his life, that this is not somebody born in poverty who was risen by his bootstraps. He’s had, basically, a fairly comfortable middle class life. He’s gone to Ivy League universities, he’s lived in a liberal bubble in Chicago. And you know, you don’t have to acquire a lot of knowledge to be acceptable in those circles, and I think what we’re seeing is, as he emerges from that bubble, we’re seeing his view of reality. And I think it’s right there for Senator McCain to go after.

Here's the deal. Obama is a lightweight socialist-minded inexperienced nancyboy.
There's no "there" there when it comes to Obama's own knowledge and expertise. All he has are vague principles, which he clothes in (surprise) vague language. He relies totally on his advisors, most of whom are from Brookings.
Ordinarily, this would be marginally acceptable: nobody can be expert in everything. The problem with Obama though is that he is so inexpert, so ignorant, and yet so overreaching in his feelings and rhetoric, that we have no way of knowing how he will evaluate the advice he's given. What does he have to test that advice against? His knowledge? No. His experience? *snort* No.
To some, he's appealing because he's "open" to doing things in a new way, but this is tantamount to admitting he doesn't know what the hell he's doing. And he doesn't. All he knows is that people seem to like him, want to back him (and get plum positions), and he's running for president dammit! He has these feelings that he's somehow important, and that's supposed to be enough for us.
All Obama is, is a vector for socialist/statist aspirations and desires to see America reduced in power and influence. That's it.

re: #33 maddogg,
Yeah, the Dems have really screwed the pooch this election cycle. It should have been theirs in a walk, but no, they had to make it interesting :-) There's really no way that Hillary can take the nomination that will be seen as legitimate by the followers of the Obamessiah. Any manuver with the superdelegates or Florida and Michigan's votes will be seen as stealing the election from Obama.
But the Obamessiah is already seen as having stepped on Hillary's natural right to be the nominee. After all, this was supposed to be a coronation, not a contest. Worse, the Obamessiah will max out in the Bluest of the Blue areas, but he won't win a single State that W won in '04. Obama will likely lose in the general election. Worse, by telling Florida and Michigan to piss up a rope in the primaries, they are giving McCain a leg up in the general. McCain won't win in a landslide, but he will get the magic 270 Electoral votes no matter how many L³iberals Obama gets in Oregon.

Granny's Popcorn Recipes -
Real Popcorn in the Microwave -
Put two small handfuls (a scant 1/4 cup) of popping corn into a brown paper lunch bag. Fold the top over firmly 1/2 inch, then fold down twice more. Microwave on high as usual, 4-5 minutes. No oil required, nothing more need be done to the bag. Yes, big popcorn has been ripping you off for years!
Southwest - add a teaspoon or two of grated lime rind to the butter as it is melting. Toss with New Mexico powdered chile and salt to taste.
Vermont - Add Maple Pepper instead of salt. Or grate in a little bit of maple sugar & add ground black pepper.
Cheese - Sprinkle with powdered cheddar from the dairy aisle or steal the cheese package from a box of mac & cheese.
Italian - Add a handful or two of freshly grated Parmesan or Romano and a splash of garlic powder.

Here's the deal. Obama is a lightweight socialist-minded inexperienced nancyboy.
All Obama is, is a vector for socialist/statist aspirations and desires to see America reduced in power and influence. That's it.

He certainly does not seem to understand that he is on a year+ long job interview for the single most powerful position in the world. Every word out of his mouth, every thought in his head, everything he has ever done or ever written, anyone he has ever associated with and all of their thoughts/words/deeds are ALL fair game, the more so because he has absolutely NO track record at anything (which seems almost deliberate.)

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton plumbing the depths of Obama's ignorance on foreign policyhere's the some of the transcript:

I had a bad feeling about Kennedy when I saw him on the news last night, leaving the hospital. His gait was somewhat unsteady, and it made me think, "He's dying". We're having less rain than we did at this time last year, but I am seriously starting to wonder if it will be warm enough in 8 days to put in the tomatoes and peppers - if they are even big enough to put in. As far a Iwo Jima was concerned, the black soldiers were confined to the Army soldiers attached to Marine Divisions. They were mostly Amphib Truck (DUCK) units tasked to bring in the heavy artillery. My dad was a Captain of the 476th Amphibian truck Company attached to the 4th Marines. The other units were the 471th attached to the 5th Marines and the 473rd. There was also a 138th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group but I am not sure if it was integrated. The Amphib units were all Black with whiter Officers. I was upset also that they were not depicted in Eastwood's movie.

What can the Obamanation offer Iran? After all Iran wants the US out of Iraq precipitously, so it can take over the Basra oilfields, as it attempted to do earlier this year to no success thanks to the US and Iraqi Army units, and so it could cause chaos as the troops leave.
But BHO has already promised to do this WITHOUT any concessions from Iran about any policy or behavoiral changes. So Iran could up the ante significantly, and if Iran breaks any promises it makes? A very stern letter will come from BHO's Secretary of State, Djimmah Carter.

Well, in my opinion, Holllywood has an obligation to accurately reflect the composition of America's troops who've served our country if true historic events are depicted on film.
Troops defending the USA are the bravest & best among us.
If liberal directors DON'T accurately depict true historic events, that is taking liberties for liberal reasons--perhaps to hide or denigrate our country's rich diversity united for freedom & defense of liberties.
Sorry, I don't buy there's no reason or there's a shortage of actors to reflect our military's true colors.

Reports: Obama Begins VP Search
A veteran Democratic activist who helped John Kerry select a VP has been picked to start the search, according to CNN.
Thursday, May 22, 2008
By Paul Westcott
National Producer
Just days after John McCain announced he is searching for a VP candidate, Barack Obama is doing the same.
Former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson, who helped select John Edwards as John Kerry's running mate in 2004 will lead the search. Johnson also lead the search for Walter Mondale's VP.
Johnson told CNN the search is "at a very early point" but that campaign workers "have been informally thinking about it for a while."

But last night some racist agitator was on Fox News screeching that America is massively racist because Clint Eastwood failed to include black soldiers in his fanciful depiction of Iwo Jima. I'd be shocked if there were more than a tiny handful of blacks who participated in the battle.

Yes! The 12th Amendment to the Constitution.
No, sorry Sharmuta. The kiddo and I read every word of it a couple of weeks ago re the John McCain eligibility flap raised by the Obama camp. Not one word about spouses. There is an age requirement and a citizenship requirement. There is also a specific statement that no president can serve more than 2 terms, even if one of those partial terms is an inherited term and even if there has been a haitus between terms.
Thus Bill Clinton cannot ever serve as POTUS again and so also cannot serve as VP.
Re John McCain's eligibility, at the time that John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, the PCZ was a territory of the United States of America in the same way that Alaska and Hawai'i were and that Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands remain. He is without doubt an American citizen by birth not an American citizen naturalized at birth (which he would have been if he had been born on an Army base in Europe) or a dual citizen, which Obama was by way of the Kenyan citizenship of his father.

Letters is from the Japanese viewpoint; there are almost no US Marines in it, actually.
Flags is less of a war story than the story of what happened to the men that raised the flag on Suribachi, from what I can gather.
Spike Lee is playing the race card for free publicity, as he always does, and the movie reviewer is acting as an echo chamber.

IIRC, in WWII the black soldiers were segregated into seperate units.
The U.S. military was not de-segregated until a presidential order from Harry Truman.By the way, it was a black unit that liberated Buchenwald. The former Chief Rabbi of Israel has recalled how, when he was eight years old in Buchenwald, a black soldier gave him his first piece of chocolate.
In the Navy, blacks could only serve as stewards (galley workers, essentially).
That didn't stop them from fighting, when all hands were needed to man antiaircraft guns, or in submarines. They served honorably, despite the way they were treated.

But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

But I saw neither movie. What was most offensive was his description of "Massive Racism" in America, multiple times. To hom there is only one racist: white people. I'm far less knowledgable about the war in the Pacific than the war in the Euro theater but there were virtually no blacks serving on the front lines in the Euro theater (this is of course a stain on the military & our society at the time & not the fault of black soldiers).
But last night some racist agitator was on Fox News screeching that America is massively racist because Clint Eastwood failed to include black soldiers in his fanciful depiction of Iwo Jima. I'd be shocked if there were more than a tiny handful of blacks who participated in the battle.
re: #166 Nevergiveup
There were not many.

From my reading, Black Soldiers made up a large part of the service-and-support battalions in WWII in both the ETO and Pacific. And in the ETO limited integration of combat units was an expedient in the latter stages of the campaign, due to a reluctance on the part of FDR's administration to extend the draft in order to maintain the level of industrial production.

ANYONE saying ANYTHING negative about this guy gets labeled as a racist. 90% of blacks vote for this guy (nothing racist there). So are the 10% of blacks that don't vote for the chosen one racist as well? I thought that black people could not be racist. I am truly confused.
I listened to this issue being argued on some pundit's show. The Obama representative "explained" that voting FOR someone on the basis of race or gender; was not the same as voting AGAINST someone on the basis of race or gender. So, it was OK to support someone by those criteria(a positive actiion); but an indication of racism or sexism to withhold(a negative action) your approval because of the same.
The same people argue that the actions of oppressed minorities can't be labeled "racism" due to their status as "powerless" against those with the power. In other words, they argue that only the groups with the economic and social power are capable of oppressing others with "racism". Hence, a black american screaming "kill all the honkies who are evil oppressors " can not be a racist.
A very convoluted theory and in my opinion; rank nonsense.

Sorry, Granny, but the 12th states that he cannot choose a VP candidate from his own state. See my #258 with the text for the amendment.
And it's even a part of Article II, Section 1, Clause 3:
The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not lie an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves. And they shall make a List of all the Persons voted for, and of the Number of Votes for each; which List they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the Seat of the Government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate. The President of the Senate shall, in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the Certificates, and the Votes shall then be counted. The Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be the President, if such Number be a Majority of the whole Number of Electors appointed; and if there be more than one who have such Majority, and have an equal Number of Votes, then the House of Representatives shall immediately chuse by Ballot one of them for President; and if no Person have a Majority, then from the five highest on the List the said House shall in like Manner chuse the President. But in chusing the President, the Votes shall be taken by States, the Representation from each State having one Vote; a quorum for this Purpose shall consist of a Member or Members from two-thirds of the States, and a Majority of all the States shall be necessary to a Choice. In every Case, after the Choice of the President, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes of the Electors shall be the Vice President. But if there should remain two or more who have equal Votes, the Senate shall choose from them by Ballot the Vice-President.
The 12th changed some of the proceedures, but left the voting for people in the same state intact. For example, say Obama were to win Illinois, if he were to choose a running mate from Illinois, the electors from Illinois would be prevented from voting for his running mate. Thus, it is de facto that he must choose a running mate from a different state.

Riiiight. Who's going to be her running mate, Dr. Phil?
And now this gem:
An Idea: Is George Bush a n*****?
People talk about President Clinton having been secretly black and that’s a cute little meme, but wrap your head around this: if George Bush were black he’d be an old school n*****. He’s an alcoholic, or a dry drunk, who proudly refuses to read and brazenly mangles English on a daily basis, who runs from war but, like the n***** who pulls a gun for stepping on his sneakers, he wants to beat up any country that twitches wrong.

Sorry, Granny, but the 12th states that he cannot choose a VP candidate from his own state. See my #258 with the text for the amendment.
I saw that. My bad. I was thinking of this one -
Amendment XXII fn14 [ Annotations ]
Section. 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President, when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
Sec. 2. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years from the date of its submission to the States by the Congress.

Patton's advance would not have been possible with out the Red Ball Express.
Nearly 75 percent of all Red Ball Express drivers, like Rookard, were African American. That's because well before and during the war, U.S. commanders in general believed African Americans had no mettle or guts for combat. Consequently, the Army relegated blacks primarily to "safe" service and supply outfits and the Navy assigned them as mess stewards. All Marines are combat troops -- the Corps refused to take blacks at all until 1942.

Yeah, I think Jindal's got a great future ahead of him. But I hope McCain doesn't tap him for VP. Why? Let Jindal show what he can do by cleaning up Louisiana, which will also give him a few years of actual management experience under his belt. Jindal's young, yet. He just needs a little bit of seasoning. That's one of the right's big gripes about Obama: he has absolutely no management experience. Let's not tar ourselves with the same brush.

I think Bill Richardson really wants to be the VP. He was on Fox & Friends yesterday morning, trying to explain that when Obama said "preconditions" he really meant "preparations." It was laughable. And I never heard Richardson speaking with such an accent as I heard yesterday. It was like he wanted to make sure everyone knew he has latino roots. You know, the dems don't vote substance; they vote political correctness.
Does he have latino roots? Bill Richardson looks American Indian to me.

I torn on Jindal.
On one hand I want him to have a good term as Gov. and run for POTUS in '12 (I don't think McCain has two terms in him) as an experinced executive.
On the other, his being in the veep slot is nothing but good and set's him in the front set for a run as POTUS when McCain steps aside.
All in all I think Jindal would be the best choice McCain could make.

Certainly it can't mean "come to bbq tomorrow, we'll chat -- don't worry about whether you are firing rockets at Israel tonight or tomorrow" but what is the line? What is nonnegotiable -- what could a foreign leader do that would ensure you (as POTUS) would not meet with them (directly) until they completed a task.

Even a bunch of leftist moonbats knows that Obama's ideas about negotiation are foolish.
In his inaugural address, President John F. Kennedy expressed in two eloquent sentences, often invoked by Barack Obama, a policy that turned out to be one of his presidency’s — indeed one of the cold war’s — most consequential: “Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.” ...
Senator Obama defended his position by again enlisting Kennedy’s legacy: “If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy led by the president of the United States, then they can explain why they have a problem with John F. Kennedy, because that’s what he did with Khrushchev.” ...
Despite his eloquence, Kennedy was no match as a sparring partner ...
Khrushchev’s aide, after the first day, said the American president seemed “very inexperienced, even immature.” Khrushchev agreed, noting that the youthful Kennedy was “too intelligent and too weak.” The Soviet leader left Vienna elated — and with a very low opinion of the leader of the free world. ...
A little more than two months later, Khrushchev gave the go-ahead to begin erecting what would become the Berlin Wall. Kennedy had resigned himself to it, telling his aides in private that “a wall is a hell of a lot better than a war.” The following spring, Khrushchev made plans to “throw a hedgehog at Uncle Sam’s pants”: nuclear missiles in Cuba. And while there were many factors that led to the missile crisis, it is no exaggeration to say that the impression Khrushchev formed at Vienna — of Kennedy as ineffective — was among them.
If Barack Obama wants to follow in Kennedy’s footsteps, he should heed the lesson that Kennedy learned in his first year in office: sometimes there is good reason to fear to negotiate.

I actually agree with the poster I was replying to: I'd rather do some good with my vote (get someone that I agree with, mostly) instead of sitting out an election and let others have full control over my destiny.

The MSM has gotten so excited about the Messiah that they can no longer contain themselves:
Linda Douglass, a longtime network news correspondent in Washington now working as a contributing editor to The National Journal, said Wednesday that she would leave the magazine to work for Senator Barack Obama’s campaign.
In an interview, Ms. Douglass said she would spend most of her time on the road with Mr. Obama as a traveling strategist and spokeswoman, a position created as the campaign expands operations for its expected involvement in the general election.
Ms. Douglass said she decided to be part of the story she was covering, because “I just thought I couldn’t possibly sit on the sidelines any more.”
“I’m somebody who really cares about good government,” she said. “It’s kind of my soapbox. When I see someone come along who is really sincere about making a more responsive government, I really respond.”
Good taste requires me to stop. I wonder if they have to taser the press bus at night to get them to calm down.

re: #368 sattv4u2
agreed. Thats why I can't figure Repubs and/ or Consrvatives who say they'll sit this out. I figure I'd rather have 60% of what I would want instead of 100% of what I do not want!
People that want to stay home and skip voting should read this Matthew Yglesias article that he posted yesterday " [Link: matthewyglesias.theatlantic.com...]
"I'll be ready to write the conservative movement's epitaph when (a) Barack Obama is inaugurated, and (b) Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid enact some stuff with more lasting impact than the meager results of 1977-80 or 1993-4. There's real reason to believe a congressional party much less dependent on the votes of white south moderates will, in fact, be able to deliver more. But I'll believe it when I see it. I think it's very plausible to imagine a conservative movement that's still strong enough to frustrate progressives' main legislative goals,
Note to any intending to "sit out"; that's the PROGRESSIVES not just the plain old "liberals", who are planning to impliment their agenda once they gain control of Congress and the Presidency.

Re: Bill Richardson.
His father was a white US American, his mother is Mexican. She still lives in Mexico City. Bill was born in Pasadena, CA. His father didn't want any questions about his son's American-ness, so he made sure Bill was born here. Then they went back to Mexico, where Bill spent part of his childhood.

re: #382 sattv4u2
1) ,,,, DRAINED to do your "civic duty" by voting, either for someone or against someone? As far as money, give what you can afford, or nothing at all. What percentage of people do you beleive contribute to any candidate ?
We are certainly in agreement on the civic duties.
The contribution is not necessarily about the common-man donor. Looking at the numbers (and from what I have read) generally high-end donors have limited their contributions to candidates up and down tickets this election cycle. That is a symptom of something, giving up (possibly) or (maybe) just malaise.
2) I have never heard anyone "ridiculed" for voting for Kerry. I have disagreed with people for voting for him (knowing him as well as I do) And even IF someone was "ridiculed" for their choice of vote ,,,, I seem to recall something about "sticks and stones,,,,,"
An entire episode of South Park was dedicated to voting for a "douchebag" or a "shit sandwhich". Not that I take all my understandings of election cycle politics from Commedy Central, but it is a good weather vein.
Agreed about "sticks and stones", but there is no doubt that ridicule takes its toll on some people and reduces (some people's) desire to participate in an way.

Guinness loses quite a lot in flavor when it "comes across the water" as the Irish say. Also, have not been in Belfast for many years, but even during the worst of the terrorism they were the warmest people I have ever met.I hear that Belfast has been cleaned up, and if you go don't miss the Antrim Coast. Spectacular and pristine!
