Is this the end of the innocence? Eagles Star Henley Pays Tribute To McCain.

U.S. presidential hopeful John McCain has picked up an odd endorsement as he prepares to battle either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama - from Eagles star Don Henley.

While many celebrities are flocking to support the Democrats, Henley insists Republican Arizona senator McCain has impressed him.

The rocker tells Rolling Stone, “I have a lot of respect for John McCain. I’ve met with him on various issues and testified before the Senate Commerce Committee that he chaired.

”He was very fair. I like the fact that he doesn’t always go along with the extreme right wing of his party."

It also appears Henley can see through Obama's Lyin' Eyes, and can Take It Easy with McCain.

Second best Mojo Nixon Song:

Don Henley Must Die Lyrics
Mojo Nixon

This is the sound of my brain.

Then I said, this is the sound of my brain on Don Henley!

Then I said, 1 2 3 4...

He's a tortured artist
Used to be in the Eagles
Now he whines
Like a wounded beagle
Poet of despair!
Pumped up with hot air!
He's serious, pretentious
And I just don't care
Don Henley must die!
Don't let him get back together
With Glenn Frey!
Don Henley must die!

Turn on the TV
And what did I see?
This bloated hairy thing
Winning a Grammy
Best Rock Vocalist?
Compared to what?
But your pseudo-serious
Crafty Satanic blot
Don Henley must die!
Put a sharp stick in his eye!
Don Henley must die!
Yea yea yea

Quit playin' that crap
You're out of the band

I'm only kidding
Can't you tell?
I love his sensitive music
Idiot poetry, swell
You and your kind
Are killing rock and roll
It's not because you are O L D
It's cause you ain't got no soul!
Don't be afraid of fun
Loosen up your ponytail!
Be wild, young, free and dumb
Get your head out of your tail
Don Henley must die!
Don't let him get back together
With Glenn Frey!

Don Henley must die!
Put him in the electric chair
Watch him fry!
Don Henley must die
Don Henley must die
No Eagles reunion
The same goes for you, Sting!

So I'm kind of surprised to see him say anything positive about a Republican, even a RINO like McCain.

It is interesting, in all places, he makes this type of statement in Rolling Stone.

The fact he has even gone on record, is confusing at least.

What should be read into the statement, is voting with the extreme right of the party.

Could someone point me in the direction towards the extreme right of this party?

I frankly don't see it anymore. Platform that is.

What would really impress me more, is actually seeing one of these guys opining to heavy leftward lurch of the other party.

For what it's worth, it is an interesting departure for Mr. Henley from his usual script.

I admire his conservation efforts at Walden Pond in MA but IIRC he owns a 14,000 sq ft home in Dallas and petitioned the City a while back to have a variance of the fence ordinance so his fence could be 8 or 9 feet tall. I've met Joe on several occasions, when one of my Sisters was his significant other and lived with him for a number of years, and if he had not been so badly burned in a previous relationship, he could easily have been my Brother-in-Law. His understanding of politics is superficial at best, he reflects the attitudes and opinions of people that surround him and those people have a tendency to be the same type of shallow thinkers, which strikes me as typical of many celebrities. Critical thinking is not high on their list of skills.

48 tempestman  5/22/08 11:39:54 am reply quote 0

Wow...I am at least encouraged by this interesting development. Henley, whatever you may think of his politics, is a terrific song writer...his, dare I say it...mushy love songs are some of the best ever. His last solo album/DVD "Inside Job" had a song entitled, "Everything is Different Now" about his meeting his now-wife was fantastic and just happened to coincide with a similar development in my life when I met and eventually married the gal that I can't wait to come home to everyday :) .

But then on the latest Eagles album "Long Road Out of Eden," the title song (by Henley) has lyrics referring to "The road to empire is a bloody, stupid way"...which I'm sure is about the U.S...although he does use the song to decry our self-obsession with ourselves, too.

Mr. Henley...if you're out there...thank you for at least realizing that liberalism is not necessarily the best way to go in every situation :) ...

Newsbusters

The new album from The Eagles, Long Road Out of Eden, is just one long, sustained attack on the integrity of the United States and is as bad as any loud-mouthed Dixie Chicks diatribe. With songs prosaically about Global Warming and the evil American “empire,” seemingly the only one of the band who just wanted to entertain the fans was Joe Walsh, the others too puffed up with their own sense of superiority to bother. Unfortunately, what we have here just another exclamation from pampered rock stars that they are smarter, more environmentally friendly and more caring than the rest of us... but be sure and buy more albums for gifts folks! This album should have been titled “Long Trip to the Bank” because for much of it the band seems to be on autopilot and too much of it seems like a cynically geared ploy to sell plastic as opposed to a solid attempt to entertain. It seems that they consciously wrote this one to appeal to sectors of the radio market -- the country market, adult contemporary -- so much so that the album lacks freshness. Several of the songs are so obviously written to have a country sound in an effort to get airplay on America’s country stations, for instance, that it’s a bit hard to get past the obvious ploy to enjoy the tunes.

This two disc set starts out with a short, whiney little piece that is a blatant plea to appeal to those worried about global warming. “No More Walks in the Wood,” penned on autopilot by Don Henley, from a poem by John Hollander, it ridiculously whines that his walk in the woods ain’t so cool anymore because “The trees have all been cut down.” Hollander’s poem tried to be clever with a globaloney reference, but it just ended up sounding clumsy. “This is the aftermath,” Henley warbles, “Of afternoons in clover fields, where we once made love... where we made our own weather.” Naturally, we ruined it all, man! It laments that “now they are gone for good” as if we could destroy all the clover fields and trees in the world. This little piece is not very subtle, but it is thankfully a short one at two minutes.

Sometimes, I forget how preachy and boring Frey and Henley can get.

I never forgive people who slander my country! Never!

He adds, "I didn't say I was going to vote for him. I just respect him as a human being."

He will probably end up voting for Barry when threats of social isolation begin from his left coast pals.

Liberals should support McCain, after all he wants open borders, voted for free medical care for illegal immigrants, wants to fight global warming, and will ensure that foreign sovereign wealth funds, like those of the UAE, continue to buy our infrastructure...

And he will not drill for oil in Anwar or off the US coast.

Beside the WOT and Iraq what does he have in common with republicans this fall?

I respect Neil Young as an artist, but otherwise, he's a f****** insane moonbat.

Neil Young can play some mean guitar but he's an arrogant puffed up prick

I remember a local radio host here in Dallas (Mark Davis) talking about a Don Henley concert he went to last year. Seems that old Don changed the words to "Boys of Summer" to somthing about Cheney and Bush lied, people died. Mr. Davis said he almost screamed "shut up and sing!" He took this very personally and didn't appreciate plunking down his hard earned money just to hear an anti-Bush diatribe during what was supposed to be a concert. I don't take an endorsement from Henley as anything other than yet another bad mark against McCain. Unfortunately in a barrel full of rotten apples he's the least rancid. I'll hold my nose and vote for him come November but I don't think all the Lava soap in the world will help me get the stink out.

I agree, I go to concerts for the music, not social commentary. I was pleasently surprised the last time I saw Dave Matthews; he urged the audience to register to vote, period. No endorsement.

I remember being appalled that Neil Young was pro-Reagan, back in the days when I was, shall we say, more lefty than I am now.

Now I find myself all the more appalled that Young has gone moonbat in a big way.

I guess I'll never be in sync with Neil, but I can live with that.

He comes across badly in an interview in the Jim Jarmusch movie. Self important and churlish with a complacent smirk on his face. Sad really. I still love those early albums like Everybody knows, After the Goldrush and Harvest....great songs.

Glad he did this. Henley has a fine family too. His cousin is an orthopedic surgeon in New York City, who treated my sister for a bad ankle break, and she is a truly amazing doctor, like you used to see in the movies, intelligent, talented and compassionate.

Not in sync with Neil? You must be a (Neil Young voice): Sutherrrn ma-a-ann.

Don Henley won't vote for McCain, even though he has kind words for him. It's not that Henley is becoming less liberal, it's more a sad sign for the Republicans that a moonbat like Henley has taken a liking to our RINO candidate.

”He was very fair. I like the fact that he doesn’t always go along with the extreme right wing of his party."

Unfortunately, the extreme right of the party isn't so enamored with him.

I have serious concerns about McCain's ability to beat Obama, who is both the most highly funded candidate in American history, and one with a strong demographic appeal.

92 DesScorp  5/22/08 5:25:05 pm reply quote 0

Read the article. Henley says he "won't necessarily be voting Republican" for the Presidency. Henley just thinks McCain is a swell liberal, that's all. He's still voting for Obama.

So where's Alice Cooper's endorsement? I've read that he and McCain take in a basketball game now and then.

Or not. Perhaps he's for whoever Don Henley's not supporting.

From an August 2004 interview given to with Sun Media up here in Canada where Mr. Cooper endorsed the President:

When I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't’t already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that’s a good reason right there to vote for Bush.

though later, he ended with the caveat:

If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal.

Henley has been one of my favorite songwriters for decades. He's a smart guy, and his lyrics often have a kind of Southpark Conservative message to them. Garden of Allah, one of the coolest pop songs of all time, for example, is hilarious and has a very witty and sarcastic message. There are tons of others.

Henley and the Eagles wrote "Dirty Laundry" which was a swipe at the MSM. And didn't the Eagles distribute their last album exclusively through Wal-Mart, the company that liberals love to hate?

I would say that Henley is a liberal, he just doesn't always follow the party line.

Heh.... I have a Don Henley story.

MCAS Beaufort, SC late 80s... one of my fellow Marines realized he was spending more money than he was making, so he ended up going AWOL on a cross-country trip to make some "real" cash to pay back all of the people he owed money to. He ended up in Colorado, working a ranch that Don Henley was neighbors with. Don happened to notice that said ranch-hand's car had a valid sticker for a Marine Corps base and confronted him about it, and once he figured out what was going on, dropped a dime on the wayward Marine.

Nothing like getting ratted out by a celebrity, eh?

Unfortunately, second chances didn't suit the Marine, who ended up going on a check-spending spree, and once caught, brig time and a Big Chicken Dinner for the Corps' troubles. He avoided civilian prison thanks to a stepfather who paid off the bad checks he wrote before he got out of the brig.

He may be a social liberal, but I bet he fully supports our country and the troops that protect its interests.

re: #32 galtg

in the Eagles farwell tour DVD , joe walsh , during his "life's been good to me.." song, comments in a very moonbatish way against the war in iraq..

guess henley didn't get the memo and decided to think for himself

good for him!

Actually, all Joe Walsh sang was: "I have a limo, ride in the back, I lock the doors and watch the war in Iraq". Hardly "moonbattish", IMHO.
