11 mean Gene  Thu, May 22, 2008 2:09:37pm

Well, re lost the ''report" line, so is it related?

12 zombie  Thu, May 22, 2008 2:09:44pm

Help me think out loud here for a minute.

I'm gearing up to start work on my "Obama Rumor, Obama Fact" page, and I need some feedback on some possible formats.

WHAT IT WILL BE

An analysis of all the "rumors" about Obama, one rumor at a time. I will either debunk the rumor, or confirm it, or assess its likelihood of being true. It will be basically in a question-and-answer format. The rumors/questions will be very short, but the answers to each rumor might become very long if massive documentation is required. How long? I don't know yet. How many "rumors" will be discussed? I also don't know yet. What will happen is that information and new rumors will constantly be added to the analysis as the campaign accelerates.

My question is: How shall I organize all this information?

POSSIBLE FORMATS

1. Everything all together on one page. This is how I did my "Red Cross Ambulance Hoax" report, and my "Taxonomy of Fraud" report. It has the disadvantage of being big and unwieldy and hard to load. It has the advantage of everything all being to together on one page, in one handy all-purpose Obama-crushing location. And if everything's all on one page, it encourages readers to just keep scrolling to find more and more shocking facts they weren't aware of before. This would be its own page hosted on zombietime.

2. Have a main "Index" page that simply lists all of the rumors -- click on a rumor and it takes you to a separate page that only answers that specific rumor. Each of these individual rumor pages will of course have links back to the main page and to the "previous" and "next" rumors. The advantage is that each page is itself easy to load and small; and that each rumor is linkable-to as a distinct fact. The disadvantage is that everything is broken up and readers may not necessarily see all the other rumors/facts if they just look at that one page and then close the window and go away. These would all be hosted on zombietime.

3. Just like "2" above, except that I start a new blog devoted to just this topic. Each rumor will be its own blog "page." Advantages: memorable URL, dedidcated site; allows comments and feedback from readers, which will increase the flow of information; can maintain the veneer of neutrality by not being on a known right-wing-neo-con knuckledragger site like zombietime. Disadvantages: Unknown new site will lack history and track record and have less credibility; if it gets heavily linked, the free blog site may not be able to take the traffic; allows comments, which will be overwhelmed by trolls and Obama-bots.

4. Just like "3" above, except that I make it be on zomblog, with all the attendant advantages and disadvantages outlined in "2" and "3" above.

5. Slack off, go smoke a doobie, and let Obama lead us off the cliff into socialism.

Which option should I choose? Or some other option I haven't thought of? Your thoughts?

re: #11 mean Gene

Yes, it's replacing that. The idea is to make it possible to report a post, or promote it (like if you think it's thread-worthy).

#3 and #4 seem to be the best options. There's a blog out there called ObamaWTF that keeps a list of Obama's documentable lies. It's 43 and counting.

/#5 never hurt though.

26 mean Gene  Thu, May 22, 2008 2:13:29pm

Zombie, I really like the #1 idea.
The other day I was looking for fauxtography examples and found that many, many links had died since 2006's Lebanon war fauxtography clusters.
I'd rather see the quotes right up on your page than click a link a year from now and see a ''the page you are looking for no longer exists.''
And, God forbid Obama gets elected there'll be a whole lot of missing pages, don't you think?

27 reine.de.tout  Thu, May 22, 2008 2:13:32pm

re: #12 zombie

One additional "disadvantage" of option #1 is that having everything on one page can lead to some confusion for SOME OF US (moi!) as to where one item ends and the next one begins. I like your option #2.

Snopes uses the index idea with an icon that shows the status of that rumor. You might want to do something similar (although, for all I know, that's where you got this idea). That way, I can look in one place and see the status quickly and only read more if I need to.

McCain Dumps medical records on holiday weekend !

As Americans kick off the first holiday weekend of the summer Friday, Sen. John McCain will release 400 pages of his medical records to a handpicked group of reporters who can neither photocopy nor keep the documents, illustrating the sensitivity the campaign places on the 71-year-old candidate's age and health.

Better late than later, McCain rejects the endorsement from the shudder-inducing Reverend John Hagee.

It still renders whatever vetting process used by his campaign when seeking endorsements questionable, at best.

But at least a little bit of McCain's pandermonium has flipped. Or is that flopped?

The "!" button appears to be the new "report" button.

The heart button was explained awhile back - you can set up a list of your favorite '"stuff" from LGF. To access your favorites, look in the upper left corner of the screen near where you sign in; once you have some favorites saved, you get to them thru there. You can even label your faves, so if you have a lot, you can find them quickly.

my name is john kerry i'm a vietnam vet
i'm here to tell you how much better things could get
if you just let me be the king instead of that guy bush
i'm a softer kind of fascist when shove comes to push
you know you've gotta love my presidential style
my presidential face and my presidential smile

so vote for me! john kerry!
see the softer side of tyrrany
vote for me! john kerry!
get rid of tweedle-dumb
bring in tweedle-dee!

you can ask my wife and kids i'm the king of the waffles
i'd be the best waffler in the whole oval office
i waffled on gay marriage and i waffled on iraq
i'll waffle on cafta and the patriot act
i'm a real clever guy, yeah my strategy is strong
if i never take a side, how can i go wrong?

so vote for me! john kerry!
see the softer side of tyrrany
vote for me! john kerry!
get rid of tweedle-dumb
bring in tweedle-dee!

well bush is a republican and i'm a democrat
our policies are just the same but who cares about that?
the most important thing is the illusion of change
so you can feel like you're involved while the status-quo's maintained
for you the working class things will probably stay the same
but won't it be nice to have a new guy to blame?

so vote for me! john kerry!
see the softer side of tyrrany
vote for me! john kerry!
get rid of tweedle-dumb
bring in tweedle-dee!

you've got to know, you're more to me than just a statistic
and i know you want democracy but come on, let's be realistic

so don't blame me. my hands are tied
i've gotta keep my corporate customers satisfied and in order to do that we've gotta keep you all in line
waving the flag and the dollar sign
you've got a television to supply you with your thrills
so take some propaganda and a few sleeping pills
if you ever wake up we'll know what must be done
but for now the ballot box is cheaper than the guns

Activist goes to court to ask that Bush be arrested at convention

Long-time Minneapolis peace activist and sometime-gadfly Ed Felien asked a Hennepin County District Court judge on Thursday to compel the county attorney to arrest President Bush when his plane lands for the GOP convention in September.

Felien, a former Minneapolis City Council member, said Bush should be investigated and prosecuted for murder because of troop deaths in Iraq, conspiracy to fix oil prices and conspiracy to distribute drugs by controlling the opium trade in Afghanistan.

I'd suggest a page on Zombietime with a few teasers that all link to the newer blog. After November it'll be easier to toss out the separate blog if no longer needed. Disable comments by unregistered users and follow the LGF registration model.

I would go for option 2. This way every rumor can be extensively covered without overwhelming the reader with a monstrous multi-chapter novel of Obama's dirty laundry. Some rumors may require extensive coverage, and this way you will have more room to breathe.

Update:

We have a name for the UK bomber...

A man arrested in connection with an explosion at a restaurant in Exeter was a recent convert to Islam and may have been radicalised, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall police said Nick Reilly, 22, who was arrested at the scene at the city's Giraffe restaurant, was a vulnerable individual with a history of mental illness.

He is currently in police custody being treated for non-life threatening but serious facial wounds sustained in the blast.

"Our investigation so far indicates [Mr] Reilly, who has a history of mental illness, had adopted the Islamic faith," Deputy Chief Constable Tony Melville told a news conference.

"We believe despite his weak and vulnerable illness he was preyed upon, radicalised and taken advantage of."

Dhimmitude in Nippon as told in the English Lanquage version of the Mainichi Shinbun (aprrox trans: Morning News):

Shipments of popular anime stopped due to offensive scene

A leading publisher has stopped shipments of DVDs of popular animation "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" and relevant volumes of the book after discovering that one of the scenes could offend Muslims.

Shueisha Inc. and animation company A.P.P.P. Co. said a scene in Episode 6 of "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" depicted the Quran in an inappropriate way.

In the scene, Jojo's enemy is shown dropping a book that contains some text from the Quran. The Quran does not appear in the same scene in the original cartoon book, but the staff of the animation company added the Arabic text to the book without knowing that the text was part of the Quran, according to Shueisha.

The companies announced on their Web sites on Thursday that they have stopped shipments of "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" Episode 6 DVDs and the relevant volumes of the books.

"We would like to express our sincerest apologies to Muslims for these incidents. We will work harder to learn more about Islam and Muslims and to avoid giving misconceptions," said the two companies on their Web sites.

The companies will not retrieve the products that have already been published.

"Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" is a popular manga series published by Shueisha that has sold over 70 million copies.

More on the mentally ill Islamist...

He said: "Our investigation so far indicates Reilly, who has a history of mental illnesss had adopted the Islamic faith.

"We believe despite his weak and vulnerable illness he was preyed upon, radicalised, and taken advantage of.

"Bomb disposal experts attended the scene and made safe two explosive devices. These are being forensically examined."

Reilly was last night under police guard and thought to be undergoing treatment at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital.

Last night neighbours of Mr Reilly said that he changed his name last year through deed poll to Mohammed Rasheed and described him as “naive and easily led”.

Daniel Turner, 20, a neighbour, said that Mr Reilly’s nickname is the “Big Friendly Giant” but that he had been “brainwashed”.

Mr Turner said: “He is mentally ill and he probably has the mental age of a 10-year-old.

“He changed his name to Mohammed Rasheed about a year ago at a registry office.

“He was brainwashed into becoming a Muslim by local men. He can’t think for himself.

“Nicky is schizophrenic. We call him the BFG but he obviously met up with the wrong people.”

List the rumors on a front page, with color coding to indicate your judgment of how likely it is to be more or less true.

Or, a number, scale of 1 to 10 or something. Or, a little bar, : if probably false, :::::::::: if probably true.

Then, links to supporting evidence for the conclusion, or a discussion of what you did to probe the rumor, assuming no reliable supporting evidence emerged.

Also, links to other sites if they came to a conclusion on the same rumor.
Maybe, one link takes you to confirming sites, the other, to sites where disconfirming evidence, or denials, what have you, may be found.

This will be a difficult project, because you have to be mostly right, and very cautious in those cases that you cannot be sure that you've got it right.

One seriously wrong call messes with the overall credibility of the site, of your "brand", and of blogdom in general.

Now, do you feel better?

Talk about stupid moonbats these idiots in Portland Oregon admit to disrupting a shareholder meeting by making a "stink" in the room. I'm guessing somewhere in the Oregon penal code there is a law against releasing noxious-smelling chemicals inside public buildings. Protestors Tell Shareholders NW Natural's LNG Plan "Stinks!"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

-Portland, OR.- Protestors from Stumptown Earth First! sneak into shareholders meeting and disrupt with stink devices in protest of the company's investment in proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects slated for Oregon. NW Natural has been making greenwashing claims, including "foreign LNG is a green alternative to the already existing domestic gas." Protestors say "there is nothing green about LNG."

Activists with Earth First! declare that "This action is just the beginning of what's in store for this LNG proposal. We are here to defend the land, the rivers, and the natural habitats, and we will not stop until LNG is dropped!"

I wonder if anyone is even investigating who did it? Did they get arrested at the scene? Nothing in the news yet.

Thanos, so who is this geezer?

To juxtaposition a swastika to a peace movement by definition is inconsistent, no matter how unappealing to your senses the movement may be. I have no affiliation with the â€%u0153Code Pink†peace movement, but to insinuate they have uniformly conspired to commit a criminal act simply because they do not live up to â€%u0153your†sense of standards is disingenuous and shows a true lack of critical thinking and objectivity.

As far as your stated and inferred inculpation of lack of patriotism, if you truly believe in patriotism and the present state of our military conflict the present military enlistment age is 18 – 42 years of age. If you and anyone with your belief system is between these ages and not serving in the military or completed a previous military obligation your words are meaningless and cowardly. It also begs the question if you believe your words why are you not also fighting and risking your life for this countries freedom instead of making unsubstantiated innuendos at the cost of others and to make yourself feel self important?

Get a load of this:

SPRINGFIELD, Va., May 22 --
English First warned fans of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dr. James Dobson and other syndicated talk shows that a proposed FCC regulation would drive their favorite programs off the air.

On January 24, 2008, the FCC published a "Notice of Proposed Rulemaking" in the Federal Register which, if ultimately adopted, would impose a back-door version of the discredited "Fairness Doctrine" upon America's airwaves.

The FCC's proposed regulations claim that radio station "programming -- particularly network programming - often is not sufficiently culturally diverse" and that the FCC seeks "to ensure that broadcasters serve their communities, especially traditionally underserved audiences," such as non-English speakers, whether or not these people actually exist.

The FCC's proposed regulations also suggest a new requirement that all "licensees should convene and consult with permanent advisory boards."

These advisory boards "should include representatives of all segments of the community," a requirement which would empower self-appointed "community leaders," such as representatives of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) or the Center for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), to discourage commercial radio stations from airing discussions of controversial matters such as the costs of illegal immigration or the meaning of jihad.

She had on a T shirt with ARMY on the front with the peace symbol superimposed over it. Seemed really inappropriate for ths weekend.

Would Jesus slash Darwin’s tires?

The cafe’s next speaker, Fresno State professor Dr. Ryan Earley, found his car tire punctured this week and with a nasty note on his windshield saying: “Fuck you Darwinist. Take your car to heaven.”

Earley, who displays a bumper sticker of a Darwin fish chasing a Jesus fish on his car, says its not the first time he’s received this sort of reaction to the sticker he meant lightheartedly. “I’ve gotten a bunch of notes on my car, especially when I lived in Georgia and Kentucky.”

re: #381 missouri boy

Obama supported Washington, D.C.'s total ban on handguns in the home for self-defense; and when Illinois lawmakers introduced a bill that would exonerate citizens for
violating local gun bans if they used a gun to defend themselves in their homes, Obama voted "NO!"

Every gun owner in America needs to alert the public about BHO's record concerning firearms.

Up His nose with a rubber hose!

That is not the worst thing that he did. As an Illinois state Senator he bottled up in committee a bill that would have outlawed FULL TERM ABORTION! The procedure is botched, the infant totally vacates the host mother & lays on the table. In other words a full human being.
Medical care is denied in order to have the baby die.
It does nt matter how one feels about abortion rights, this is infanticide.
O
Pro choice Democrats supported the bill, but not Barry.

Lou Dobbs and a Paul Waldman - a Media Matters hack are going at it on Dobb's show on CNN right now. Media Matters attacked Dobbs (and BillO) and you should hear the screeching from Dobbs. Dobbs was challenged by the Media Matters hack to name a positive story he has done on immigration - he couldn't.

Dobb's retaliated by asking when was the last time MM did a positive story on a Republican. LOLZ

Dobbs: "You are an ideologue and a left wing hack!"

Get the vid when its available - great fireworks!

And Lou Dobbs still sucks.

The problem is that this ruling preempts any determination of the facts of the matter. How many of the mothers are in fact underage?

Who is actually related to whom? Are these mothers the biological mothers? And how many mothers have children by the same man? All these things can be determined with some DNA.

The point of the ruling is to make sure this evidence is never obtained and analyzed. And the point of that is to make polygamy legal for all practical purposes, because even when it involves underage women married off by force, in quantity, to dominant older men, it turned out to be effectively legal.

And where does this leave us if we decide we don't want polygamy-qua-Sharia law here?

I would also have to say that at least one of the people holding a "This Jew does not support..." sign did not look at all Jewish. While this is by no means dispositive, given the penchant of the Left for putting forth phony soldiers as "veterans against the war" it would by no means surprise me if one one or more of "these Jews" were not, in fact, what they claimed to be.

If it were anywhere else I would agree. But this is Seattle. Jews do the lefty, anti-Israel thing very well.

Who knows though. These people are pathetic.

Poor Barry couldn't just enjoy his waffles, his handlers had to get him out talking to Jewish old-timers in Florida because of " concerns" about his position on Israel. There will be a lot more of the same all the way through November. Bet he had to hear a lot of medical complaints and doctor stories from the old-timers until his eyes glazed over.

I had asked other lizards how to find out his kosname, but I still haven't been willing to just ask him. However, he did make some remarks about Savage playing the Dead Kennedys that gave me something to look for. One user's comments are something like his other work-related writing, but, of course, with added profanity.

Anyway, after swimming in that cesspool, I had to get back here to clean off.

I know a Jewish woman back home who read a book about Iran and thinks that the United States is too difficult on them. One of the reviewers of the book was one of the writers of the Walt-Mearsheimer study. She didn't have a clue who these guys were, but they had some nice initials after their name so she thought they must be smart. Never would she think that they were anti-Semitic bastards because they are college professors.

This is so emblematic of the Jews in this country (well at least the 60% that plan on voting Democratic this election). Jews will slit their own throats if only to be thought of as caring people. So many are so busy thinking that anti-Semitism is the fault of Jews.

His reply was

Every time I see him lately he is reading a script - literally. Not even looking up at the audience most of the time. And he does not read particularly well. The other day my mother sent me that old chestnut about how GWB's grandfather--or was it great-grandfather?--played footsie with the Nazis. He was apparently involved with one of the many US banks which had financial dealings with Hitler's Germany.

I asked her what the purpose of sending me this message was; GWB was certainly not responsible for his grandfather's actions--was not even alive when they took place--and will, in any event, be out of office in 7 months.

She responded with something to the effect that she was amused by his speech in Israel against appeasement when his grandfather was "dirty."

Again, I asked her what the two had to do with each other. She could not give me a coherent reply: the Nazis were evil, Bush is evil, his family had a connection with the Nazis; therefore Bush is--well, something. That was the gist of it.

Are you, like, my long lost brother or something?

We (the U.S.A.) will be blamed, of course.

If 1/2 the effort of blaming went into solving, surely the world would be a better place (imho).

I shall take this horrendous situation to bed with me and quiety and sincerely meditate on the suffering these people are experiencing. Hopefully, an answer will come as to how I can help in some way.

Good night good lizards. Y'all are some kind of wonderful. :)

It's the thought that counts. I dinged you up anyway.

I need to catch some zzzz's and wil leave you with a song that in my younger, smoke filled years lulled me to sleep. The local rock radio station played this at midnight, every night and I set my clock by it.

Youth is wasted on the young.

This song now brings different meanings for me since I've matured and see the fruits of it's message. They are not good, hence my statement about youth wasted.

Good night all!

STOP THE ETHNIC CLEANSING OF PALESTINE.

Considering that Gaza is 100% Jew-free and the rest of the Arab world is 99.99% Jew-free, who exactly has been "ethnic-cleansed"?

It looks like nazimedia got about 4 keffiyah-wearing faux "Jews" to attend their "Nakba" party. Not even one "Neturei Karta" freak, they had to settle for a crappy mime.

I agree they should stop the "ethnic cleansing of Palestine". No more "settlements" should be evacuated. If the Palis want a state, they have to give all the Jews there the same rights Arabs get in Israel. If they can eject Jews, then Israel can eject all its Arabs (or must Muslim Arabs) to the so-called "Palestine".
But since the Paliterrorists will never settle for anything less than ALL of Israel, we just have to keep Olmerde from throwing any more Jews out of their homes.

it is so difficult to understand how that can be. i guess alot of older people just get tired and afraid. and feel helpless. those of us in the know need to accept that some will never understand and rise to the occasion. i have some good jewish friends in the city and they get angry at me for my stand on israel. isn;t that crazy. i'm not giving up. i keep hammering the facts that you presented to your mom and they roll their eyes. it just is what it is, to coin a phase.

512 LoFlyer  Thu, May 22, 2008 5:49:24pm

Tested an interested project with my employer that has severe repercussions in the future to the privacy of our citizens. We have two police helicopters equipped with FLIR camera and surveillance systems, and several years ago the police bought an aerial data acquisition unit to transmit the video from the FLIR to ground receivers. Public safety then moved their HQ and lost some key personnel involved in the project, but about two months ago the project became active again and I was tasked with providing a fiber link for the video and remote control functions to the police HQ. Giving the police dedicated fiber for the video would be expensive (I had available fiber, but we charge for it) and poor use of available band-with with zero redundancy. I proposed using a analog to digital video converter and dumping it on our high speed, redundant network. We came up with the hardware to do this and we tested the concept end to end to day with complete success. At present the concept is that the chiefs and special operations people can observe and direct aerial searches for ongoing operations such as SWAT stand-offs, high speed chases and stuff like that.
I fear with new technology and remotely piloted vehicles that we have the capability of the police surveiling large portions of the domestic population via RPV's at low cost and high efficiency. Make no mistake, the current operators have zero desire to survey the population to look at what we do in the privacy of our back yards. However they do take orders from out political leaders, and if they are told to do this they will, under protest...

Fraud-prevention pitchman becomes ID theft victim

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Todd Davis has dared criminals for two years to try stealing his identity: Ads for his fraud-prevention company, LifeLock, even offer his Social Security number next to his smiling mug.

Now, LifeLock customers in Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia are suing Davis, claiming his service didn't work as promised and he knew it wouldn't, because the service had failed even him.

Your mom is actually right about when leftists came onboard to support the effort in WW2.
When the Hitler/Stalin non-agression pact was honored the left opposed US entry into the War.
When Hitler started whacking Stalin, it all changed.
Woodie Guthrie was the poster boy for the duplicity. For them it was all about defending Mother Russia.

re: #489 Alouette

Do you think it is at all possible that this is a generational thing? That younger Jews may be less attached to the party? (Probably not, but hope springs eternal.)

I am thinking of my paternal grandmother from Charleston, SC. She was an arch-conservative (though not a segregationist) and despised hippies, commies, and big government.
I was visiting her on election day in 1972 and remember her putting on her hat and white gloves to go out to vote for......yep.......George McGovern. My father tried to inform her, tried to reason with her, but it was useless.

She doesn't like Obama, but she knows that the war is wrong, knows that Bush is evil, knows that Wal-Mart is bad. I'm trying to find/figure out how she gets moonbat talking points beamed in.

You can't be my long-lost brother, my mom loves shopping at Wal Mart and the "Dollar Stores." She's very proud to get all her moonbat talking points from the LA Times, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and especially BBC and PBS because those are for "intellectuals."

Well, cousins then. Mom pores over the NYT and the Chicago Tribune like she is reading the Talmud. She'd do better to check out the Sun-Times; at least they carry Steyn. She will read Krauthammer, but disdainfully and suspiciously, and always refers to him as "that guy you like."

lol, sorry it's funny. you should write abt, this. a book or something.
