Thu, May 29, 2008 at 4:09:06 pm PDT

An amazingly hateful anti-Hillary, anti-white tirade at Barack Obama’s church in Chicago by Catholic priest Michael Pfleger. You won’t believe this. Michelle Malkin has a transcript.

In regard to Hildabeast, he is correct.

They just played a clip of this 'sermon' on the Chicago local 6 o'clock news. No favorable comments, either.

Just saw this on Fox.. very strange Obama's church seems to insist on derailing his run. Or perhaps they just can't help themselves.

Someone should let the good Rev in on a secret: He will never be Black no matter how hard he tries.
How sad.

They are what they are. This is their authentic self. This is what Obama supported for twenty years. It's interesting that the rest of us are shocked by it. Him? Not so much.

When Obama was asked that, he said Wright was no longer the Pastor ( I guess he does not understand what Pastor Emeritus means? ) and moved right on. You know kinda like I am eating my waffles-leave me alone?

11 vapig  Thu, May 29, 2008 4:15:01pm

So is this the new and improved Pastor at Obama's church? The one that's replaced Wright?

I see a pattern here and this seems to be what the people in that church want to hear. Sad :^(

This isn't the replacement pastor ( HE is a nutcase just the same).

This is a local 'priest' that has been a community agitator in the city of Chicago for a long time. A thorn in the side of the church - he has made a name for himself by being outrageous. sort of like Jesse Jackson, but white and Catholic. A good friend of TUCC - but not it's pastor.

"Give up the benefits"
Yup, they are not even hiding that they want 100% taxation anymore.
If you give it all away to them freely, you may miss the "racist" designation.
Otherwise, as Barry's wife said, when they take power you will have to live with less.
Lots less.
Except peeps like Michele O, Pelosi, Jefferson et al. They will still get to keep theirs.
But they are doing it for our ow good, so we can be free of the guilt of being hard-working and successful on our own honest terms.

Why hasn't the Catholic Church tossed his lily white *** under the bus? In the Seattle Archdiocese we hear almost the same stuff, the last Archbishop, Hunthausen was known for chaining him self to the sub base gates out at Bangor.

Oh, my. That's ridiculous. I'm no fan of Hillary, but to think that the woman sat there thinking "I'm WHITE!" and "A BLACK man is stealing my show!" is ludicrous. She was thinking "I'm HILLARY!" and "SOMEONE ELSE is stealing my show!" Honestly.

His parish, St. Sabina, is in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city, where gangs basically rule the street.
A few years ago when parents from other neighborhoods refused to allow their kids to go into his neighborhood for little league games because they were concerned about their kids' safety, the asshole said it was because the parents were racists. Pfleger can go fuck himself, the piece of shit.

Liberation theology is simply Marxism with a God twist and a little extra hate thrown in for good measure.

If a priest spoke like this at the Catholic church which I attend, I would stand up and walk out....across the front of the church.

Thankfully I've never heard a priest say anything remotely close to this sort of thing at my church.

IIRC correctly JPII chastised Seattle's Hunthausen. I lot of mainstream denominations suffer from a liberal activist invasion.

I've got two ancestors one from each side who were on Gen. Washington's staff in the revolutionary war.

I've got one ancestor whose home was on the underground railroad.

Previous to that my roots can be traced to the minister of the first Protestant Church in Kent England. One of the early focal points for the anti-slavery movement.

My ancestors where anti-slavery when it was considered treasonous.

Phlegmer, I've got a couple verses for you.

I wonder if you've seen them before.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3:28

Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Colossians 3:11

Phlegmer your words are anti ethical to the gospel, they are not God's words. In the spiritual realm there are two sources God and Satan.

Your words are not God's words.

Illinois may be headed for serious trouble, with the anti-gun legislation they are proposing. There are probably 30 major firearms maufacturers in Illinois, who have all vowed to move out of state if this legislation passes.

Add, up to several million of Illinois best taxpayers to the list of people moving out of state, and that state would be in serious financial trouble, especially considering that the IL Democrats have bankrupt the state already.

Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina’s Church, went way over the top this week. During a protest against Chuck’s Gun Shop, Father Pfleger twice threatened to “snuff out” the shop’s owner and threatened the same fate for legislators who oppose his ------------- on gun control.

“We’re gonna find you and snuff you out,” Fleger said about the gun shop owner, likening the man to a “rat.” He later repeated his threat to “snuff out” the owner.

“We’re gonna snuff out legislators who are voting [garbled] against our gun laws and we’re coming for you because we are not going to sit idly.”

With that kind of violent mindset and hateful rhetoric, it’s no surprise that Father Michael Pfleger is so close to Louis Farrakhan. Or that he’s used violent rhetoric when threatening critics of Obama.

So Father Pfleger is out with a warning: “Do not touch this man [Obama],” he says, “for if you do, you will answer to us all.”
Or that he’s tried to carry water for him. Father Michael Pfleger like Jeremiah Wright has a close relationship to Farrakhan and a close relationship to Obama. A closer one than he does to his own Cardinal Francis George who has questioned whether he should even be a priest and at one point reassigned him entirely.

A quick Google search yields thousands of results on this guy, he seems just as bad as Rev Wright, and his "blessing" replaced Wright's on Obama's site once Obama threw Wright under the bus.

132 wanumba  Thu, May 29, 2008 5:05:24pm

One of the problems of the Christian Church, Catholic and Protestant branches, is the lack of will to discipline. It's a function of the popular culture, being "tolerant" is the meme. Jesus was not tolerant. He was generous, patient and loving and FIRM and FORGIVING, but TOLERANT? No. It's impossible for God to be tolerant of evil, for that's what the world is demanding when it says, "tolerant."
The popular culture has twisted the concept of intolerance from something positive, as in "Intolerant of evil" to the surrender of "give up solid moral principles to curry short term favor."
So, when people in the church badly abuse their positions, they are given slaps on the wrist, or a talking to (which they pretend to absorb), because Christians have been taught it isn't NICE to be tough or be "judgmental" which has been corrupted to mean one can't make any common sense judgment calls on anything. "Meek" can be translated as debonnaire, which evokes a completely different and savvy temperament than a mousy, withdrawn "meek."
A debonnaire Christian would have hauled those guys out by the ears, tarred and feathered them with a boot in their asses, with a, "Don't come back unless you've reformed! And we'll be the judge of that, not YOU! And don't even PRETEND to think you're getting ANY responsibility EVER again. GRUNT for you!"
No "healing" no "dialogue" no wishy-washy.

He is a priest. Pfleger subscribes to Liberation Theology, which the Church has been trying to get rid of for over 20 years now. The Archdiocese wants to get rid of him. The problem is, they can't pull him from St. Sabina's for another 4 years or so due to the fact that pastors need to complete a 6 year term. Pfleger's been there for 20 years now. A standard term for a pastor is no more than 12 years (two 6 year terms). Pfleger just won't effing leave.

They were all busy being persecuted themselves in Europe while anything he was claiming could have been happening.

That's true of an awful lot of white people the racist hatemonger rants about. Meanwhile, the TUC church crowd is just about having a collective orgasm enjoying seeing a white Catholic priest kissing up to them, trying to act like a black preacher, and feeding them the stuff they love to hear about their monopoly on victimhood at the hands of their evil white oppressors. None of their present problems could possibly have anything to do with anything under their own control, or that they have any responsibility to fix, of course.

Most of us outside St. Sabina's really dislike the man. Pfleger has managed to grow some sort of deep roots there, and is a PITA to remove. Looking in from the outside (I'm in the Diocese of Joliet, Pfleger is in the Archdiocese of Chicago), it's hard to understand why he's gotten a pass for so long. Patton was right, 90% of staff can be worked with - move people around to better positions where they can shine, some need extra training, a few need just some guidance as they mature, but 10% are incorrigible and should be fired as soon as it's determined that they are one of those 10% types. To keep them on wrecks the cohesiveness and productivity and morale of the rest of the staff. Classic. The churches have the same problem, alas. The officers wanna be liked more than wanna keep to the discipline.

The movie Twelve O'Clock High is standard fair for management classes, addressing directly the failure of likeability in leadership. Under new management in the squadron, slackers were sent to the plane renamed, "THE LEPER COLONY" until they worked themselves out to the other planes. Warm and huggy mush was killing the crews, tough kept them alive.

I don't know if any of my ancestors were involved in slavery but let's say for the sake of argument they were. How far back do reparations go? There were quite a few Africans that were enslaved before the United States began practicing slavery. There were a number of Africans who enslaved other Africans. And there were Africans that enslaved Semitic tribes.

Taking this to its logical conclusion, Americans of European descent that were involved in slavery have to pay black Americans of African descent money for slavery who then have to pay each and Africans of African descent for slavery who then have to pay Jews for slavery for the work done in Egypt. Let's just cut out the middle man and just give the money to Adam Sandler and call it square.

Obama "deeply disappointed" in Father Michael Pfleger. UPDATE Pfleger apology.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said in a statement he was "deeply disappointed" in Father Michael Pfleger, after the priest --in a scene caught on videotape-- mocked Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y) from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago--the home church of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. UPDATE Click below for Pfleger apology

“As I have traveled this country, I've been impressed not by what divides us, but by all that that unites us. That is why I am deeply disappointed in Father Pfleger's divisive, backward-looking rhetoric, which doesn't reflect the country I see or the desire of people across America to come together in common cause," Obama said in a statement.

Response of Rev. Michael L. Pfleger of statements made during a sermon on Sunday, May 25, 2008

"I regret the words I chose on Sunday. These words are inconsistent with Senator Obama's life and message, and I am deeply sorry if they offended Senator Clinton or anyone else who saw them."

re: #172 Mormon Doc
Hmm. Maybe the question should be: "What price would you pay for you and everyone you love to be freed from slavery?"

So, if it was "the world" or "my right arm" or "an arm and a leg" or "a million dollars," or "everything I own," then how much have you saved because by the grace of God, you were born into a society that ended slavery over a century ago?

185 Mormon Doc  Thu, May 29, 2008 5:45:16pm

To be clear, I am saddened by this priest because in my view he damages the entire Catholic church and I think he could injure people. I remember when I was searching for my own spiritual path and the various times I attended Catholic mass. The priests were always genuine and sincere men of faith who spoke of God and submitted themselves to Him.

I can't imagine running into someone like this priest in hopes of finding spiritual guidance. Either I don't understand the role that of a priest with respect to preaching the Good News or Mr. Pfleger (and I used Mr. on purpose) doesn't understand it. People who turn to ecclesiastical leaders are often in a very vulnerable state. My guess is that these people don't find very much Good News when they turn to him.

This is one of the most disingenuous and self serving statements I have read in my entire life. What a low impression he has of Americans who saw his wretched bile spewed forth. To assume for even a single moment that this statement is more reflective of his beliefs than his "sermon" requires, to borrow a phrase, the willing suspension of disbelief.

207 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Thu, May 29, 2008 6:22:48pm

I found this revolting in every respect:

First, this nation has spent trillions and fought wars to liberate the former slaves.

This nation kicked open freedom's door and made the slaves full citizens

This nation has transformed itself in every way to build a just and equal society. This same nation is taking a hard look at electing an African American president.

Who is this man to dare say one word against such a nation? If this is not a righteous nation, then what is? Cuba? Saudi Arabia? How about Sudan? By what sense of justice shall we punish people for having done the right thing? I hear this man's words and know that no amount of giving, voluntary or involuntary would ever satisfy what he thinks must be given.

For bonus questions:

Will former descendants of black slave owners be denied their share of the giant wealth transfer or do they get their "fair share?" How would we even figure out who the slave owners are?

My family did not arrive to this country until AFTER slavery, as Jews who actually helped the civil rights movement and took extraordinary measures to help our local African American community, how is it justice Father P when we were neither "beneficiaries" nor ever victimizers.

If Jesus taught people to love others, how is it love to demand all their possessions? While I can understand the poor asking for help and think people should be generous and give- I find it offensive in the extreme for this Bozo with a collar to insist on a justice that strips the donor of everything.

But one thing is clear, he does belong on the pulpit of this nice mainstream church.......

This Fr. probably thinks Christ returned in the collected writings of Karl Marx and Che Guevera, I am going to ask a Rabbi I know for his analysis of this very special vid.

A few years back I had to undergo an operation. There were some major risks in the procedure and the downside risks in the procedure would have a major negative impact on my life. As I sat in the OR awaiting my knockout drops, an African American pastor walked in and asked if I wanted a prayer. I told him, "Reverend, I am Jewish, but right now, I need all the help I can get." In America, we can always find a way to pray together.

The "Great Whore" is code for the Catholic Church. Some fundies interrupt parts of the Bible as referring to Rome. I won't supply you with links but if you Google:
"Great Whore Catholic Church"

I'm the descendant of Italian peasants and Swedish tenant farmers who arrived in America decades after slavery was abolished...as well as Welsh miners and Creek Indians who had absolutely nothing to do with the "peculiar institution." I grew up lower-middle-class, and became the first (and only) person in my family to earn a college degree. To date, I haven't seen any of the 401ks or other inheritances of my Evil White Ancestors this prick insists must exist.

Pfleger, you disgrace the Church of Jesus and His Apostles even more than the pedophile priests ever did. They merely destroyed individuals in the name of religion -- you are trying to take down an entire nation and civilization with your ignorant and hateful spewings. You are nothing more than a cheap, vicious demagogue hiding behind the respectability of the Christian ministry, and deserve to be both scorned for your sick rantings, and laughed at for your patronizing shuck-n-jive caricaturizing of Black Evangelical homiletics.

I was asked to donate to this idiots "children" the other day. I live in Chicago. I told the person that there was no possible way I would give any money to that person. Now, I hope the Catholic church takes a hard look at him.

How in this day and age can anyone speak about white entitlement? I mean, white kids have a tougher time getting into selective colleges. I have white daughters applying to schools-minorities don't have to have the same grades or standardized test scores as whites-they get a pass.

Obama and his wife were recipients of this largesse.

This "hate whitey" propaganda coming from the pulpit of this church I hope is not the standard for all black churches in America. It's disgusting.

I don't support Obama for a lot of reasons, none of them have to do with his skin color.

There is a word that starts with "w" that sounds like the "n-word" that i have heard come out of the mouths of some teens on the street. I am not sure if it is politically correct to use since it refers to a white person acting like what some would say is a typical un-white person. I have never ever used the term, but for some reason, this preacher made me remember that word. Thanks a Lot! I really despise BHO and his church for exacerbating racial fears and hatred. Oh, to stay with the theme of this thread.....my family did own slaves at one time in North Carolina, and Mississippi. After the War between the States, they didn't.

I learned in my history books that the war ended in 1865. I was born almost 100 years later, in the north.

How much do I owe, and who do I write the check out to? Is is tax deductible? After I write it, can we end all entitlement programs-forever. Can we have a flat tax? Can we end affirmative action? Can Jesse Jackson get a real job? Can we end all the hate bs and all the white guilt that the black establishment has used to enrich itself in America?

I am in. I will be fine in the end. Just end all the bull crap.

Ironically, when I lived in the suburbs-I was more tolerant. Now that I live in a city, I am not tolerant. The bums that panhandle from me every day on my walk home, virtually all black. The people that I cross the street to avoid-virtually all black. I am becoming less tolerant-and I don't like it. But if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.

At some point the failure of succeeding generations of blacks is not my fault. Not when they won't turn in the gang bangers that terrorize their streets. Not when they don't even show up for high school much less graduate. Not when they are grandparents when most people in America are having their first children. Not when they continually look to the government for a handout. That's not my problem.

Shelby Steele is correct. Thomas Sowell is correct. Bill Cosby is correct.
Barack Obama and the ones that think and act like him are incorrect. They will damage yet another generation.

226 REDSTATE  Thu, May 29, 2008 7:04:22pm

It is a disgrace that any Christian church allows - and even ENCOURAGES - this hateful speech from the pulpit.

The message of the Gospel is about forgiveness and redemption. It's about the love expressed for the human race - of all ethnic groups - through the amazing sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross.

Preaching divisiveness, vengeance and hate from the pulpit is not something I would want to have to explain to God. I don't envy these pastors when that time comes!

I pray that this church finds it's footing and returns to that message of love and peace.

What upsets more than this jerk is the reaction of the congregants. It is the same reaction we heard on all of The Rev Wright's tapes also. For Obama to say he did not know what was going on in his church is laughable. Why doesn't anybody call him on it?

That's what I find profoundly interesting. There are no jeers, shocked sounds of dismay, boos, nothing like that. The camera pans over the audience showing the congregation standing up cheering. How in the world can Obama and his wife say they never heard anything like this when the rest of the congregation seems completely happy to hear it?

[Link: www.suntimes.com...]

I tried posting this to the links but it said it is already posted but I couldn't find it.

"The biggest challenge, I think, is always maintaining your moral compass."

Friends and advisers, such as the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church in the Auburn- Gresham community on the South Side, who has known Obama for the better part of 20 years, help him keep that compass set, he says.

"I always have felt in him this consciousness that, at the end of the day, with all of us, you've got to face God," Pfleger says of Obama. "Faith is key to his life, no question about it. It is central to who he is, and not just in his work in the political field, but as a man, as a black man, as a husband, as a father.... I don't think he could easily divorce his faith from who he is."

re: #114 Mo86

I am embarrasssed on behalf of my city.

But... hasn't anyone told this guy that HE IS WHITE?

I have never understood this ranting and raving about how horrible and racist white people are towards blacks, when the person doing the speaking is white too!

Well, the Jews have people like Norman Finkelstein, Noam Cholmsky, and the Neutra Karta nut jobs who show up to be photographed in support of every anti-semitic tyrant and terrorist on the planet.

There were even blacks who were members of the Ku Klux Klan, and who were willingly used to betray other black people. ( [Link: secretsocieties.tribe.net...] ).

So it's only fair that Catholics should have an equally despicable white priest who spews out racial hatred of all white people.

Bingo! I was thinking about how to make that point but I would have never done as well as this.

Pastor Hagee apologizes for anti-Catholic remarks May 13

"In my zeal to oppose anti-Semitism and bigotry in all its ugly forms, I have often emphasized the darkest chapters in the history of Catholics and Protestant relations with the Jews," Hagee wrote. "In the process, I may have contributed to the mistaken impression that the anti-Jewish violence of the Crusades and the Inquisition defines the Catholic Church. It most certainly does not."

Hagee has often made references to "the apostate church" and the "great whore," terms that Catholics say are slurs aimed at the Roman Catholic Church. In his letter, Hagee said he now better understood that the Book of Revelation's reference to the Catholic Church as "the apostate church" and the "great whore" are "a rhetorical device long employed in anti-Catholic literature and commentary."

He stressed that in his use, "neither of these phrases can be synonymous with the Catholic Church."

I see you evaded the "seven hills" question. Why don't you explain that? You know you want to. Throw some links out to back up your argument, too. I'm sure you've got them and are just itching to use them. The floor is yours. I'll check back in the morning.

What do you want me to say bigot? I can't take anyone who calls the Catholic Church the "Great Whore" or "Great Slut" or the "Great Harlot" based on some acid trip interpretation of Revelations seriously.
You've done it in the past and had your posts deleted, and now you just want to change a word and get away with your bigotry. I'm not wasting my time on you. But please feel free to explain that 'seven hills' thing to anyone that is interested.

Step back from the ledge......

Isn't it kind of strange that nearly all of the events mentioned in the Bible occur within a couple hundred mile radius, yet the "seven hills" are somehow magically transported a thousand miles away to some area relatively unknown to the residents of the Holy Land? Like you say, fundy stuff.

What this priest is doing is scandalous and wrong - it clearly goes against the teaching of the Church. He's almost certainly on the wrong side of the canon law, too.

Here's how to fix this: The first step is to send the transcript to his bishop, along with a letter asking if the bishop would consider the views of the priest to be racist, and if so, what kinds of sanctions can be expected. I would also suggest sending also a letter to the diocese's Anti-racism Committee, headed by Rev. Kendall Haynes, whose e-mail is listed at the link.

All letters should be polite, well-reasoned, and temperate. What's more, all actions should be taken with demonstrable good faith. A combative legalistic approach will not work very well here. What we have is a priest with a moral, spiritual, and perhaps even a psychological disorder. The bishop will seek his recovery before his punishment.

This should receive a quick response, but if it doesn't the next step is forwarding the copy of the of the letters and responses to the appropriate folks at the Vatican (probably to Wm. Joseph Levada at the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, start by inquiring at the cdf@cfaith.va). It might also be good to retain a good canon lawyer in the unlikely case that the bishop is totally unresponsive - the folks at the Saint Joseph's Foundation will probably be happy to help, although I'm guessing it won't come to that.

I guess their eyes "offendth them" and they plucked them out.

And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

Because if you really want to literally interpret the Bible, that's what one would do.

re: #233 song_and_dance_man

The subject of the Great Slut cannot be left aside to be determined for a later date.

She is the one who entertains the world with the guise of religion. All her prostitutes assume the pose and accepts the values of everything wordly that is contrary to God, with the exception the hostel must assume some semblance of religiosity.

She is found everywhere wherever He is not found nowadays.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.

This had me confused at first but now I see; you are talking about Islam! Right?

Ok. then. The New Testament in the reinterpretation of the the story of Mithra with an anti-Roman slant. There's now way the original authors woulds have known they would eventually destroy the temple of Mirtha on "Vatican Hill", replace it with the Vatican, and take over Rome. Of course there's anti-Roman stuff in there. That's the whole point of inventing the religion in the first place.
Am I helping?

I was asking you a question is all. I have defended you at times.
I am not your enemy. I have never in my life seen a priest act as this one has. I am Catholic yes.....and nearly turned my back on the Church (but not God) at one time because of a priest mentioning the suicide of my father-in-law at mass. God quickly turned me around.
I do not consider one Christian better than another. I am Catholic and will remain so. I have learned from protestants also.
I know you saw that post. I simply do not like people degrading the Catholic Church....it has it flaws as do all humans. But I have never degraded other Christians simply because they weren't Catholic.

The Whore may come from a religion but not one that pleads the Blood of Christ and continually mentions The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Nor one that mentions Jesus Christ as the Savior.
If God turned me around from turning my back on the Catholic Church..
The Whore will not come from the Church.
I was lead through the darkness at that time....I took the steps forward not knowing whether or not I would fall off the cliff and on faith I stepped forward not knowing whether God should give wings or solid ground. He did. I have no fear of the future because by keeping in contact ( by prayer) I will be lead through the darkness unharmed.
Many people who are not Catholic and even Catholics themselves do not understand the Church. I recieved a quick understanding in my late 30's.
To say ugly things about the Pope is what? Being Christian?
The Catholic Church is not the enemy.

I've been listening to this asshole Pfleger since the time I lived lived in Chicago in the earlt 80's. I'm Catholic, and this guy Pfleger is a fuckin' POS, and he always has been. He actually called for gun shop owners to killed.

I'm Catholic, too -- and frankly -- I have NEVER seen a Roman Catholic priest say things like this or behave like this --

How about a call to Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago? Can't he tell this fool to get back to business doing the Lord's work, instead of preaching and prancing like a crazed lunatic?

In case people haven't seen it before, here's a link to Cardinal Ratzinger's thoughts on liberation theology (ca. 1984 or thereabouts).
Preliminary Notes on LIberation Theology

While the specific topic was liberation theology in Latin American Catholicism, many of the objections raised also apply to Pfleger's ideas.

The Pope is on record as calling your theology false and exclusionary, Father Pfleger.

295 Gmac  Fri, May 30, 2008 1:57:25pm

296 EC Marm  Fri, May 30, 2008 2:40:34pm

Pfleger taken to woodshed by Cardinal George:

Chicago's Cardinal Francis George on Friday said that Rev. Michael Pfleger, who mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton from the pulpit of her opponent's South Side church last weekend, has promised the cardinal he will "not mention any candidate by name" in the future.

"To avoid months of turmoil in the church, Father Pfleger has promised me that he will not enter into campaigning," George said in a statement. "[He] will not publicly mention any candidate by name and will abide by the discipline common to all Catholic priests.

"Racial issues are both political and moral and are also highly charged," George said. "Words can be differently interpreted, but Father Pfleger's remarks about Senator Clinton are both partisan and amount to a personal attack. I regret that deeply." [Link: www.chicagotribune.com...]
