Rest in peace, sir. God bless.

You have given me more hours laughter than I can count.

The ultimate man movie. Blazing Saddles.
Funny man. I hope he had a nice life.

2008 has been a very sad year for Hollywood. All of the greats are passing; We won't see their likes again. Truly a golden age is fading away.

I fell in love with him on Carol Burnett's show when I was a little girl.

Blazing Saddles is one of the funniest movies made ever. And, in our PC world nothing will be made like it again. Harvey Korman will live forever thanks to this movie.

14 Cognito  Thu, May 29, 2008 8:06:09pm

Mm.

Fond childhood memories of sitting on the floor in front of my parents' console television, watching Korman on Carol Burnette's show, slowly letting a laugh leak out like steam.

He made my parents laugh, which made me laugh. Rest in peace.

"Gosh darn Mr. Lamar. You talk pretier than a twenty dollar whore."

Harvey was a great actor. I loved his work on the Carol Burnett Show. They just don't make them like him these days. Thanks for the memories.

Way OT, but in the spirit of the previous KOS thread, DUmmies postulating the theory that marines conducting urban training in Indiana is preparation (false flag operation, in lunatic lingo) for marines to kill Americans, and presumably install martial law, no doubt at the behest of Darth Cheney, leading to the impending cancellation of November elections, coronation of King McBush...well, you get the picture.

Oh, and the %u0447%u0435%u043B%u043E%u0432%u0435%u043A who started the tin foil hat thread has a Barack picture as its symbol. Shocking, I know.

Ya gotta' watch!

Okay, okay. So the clip features Tim Conway; but it's wonderful to see the two work together and to watch Harvey try to keep from cracking up!

22 RUMCROOK  Thu, May 29, 2008 8:10:08pm

watching comedy with him in it was like eating comfort food when I was a kid. it allways made you feel good.

One of my favorite Korman/Conway sketches. :)

Korman couldn't stop laughing!

24 Dahveed  Thu, May 29, 2008 8:11:02pm

I posted this earlier but it bears repeating: Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were perfect together. When Conway would do or say something unexpected, Korman would just start laughing. He could not control himself. Those scenes were absolutely priceless.

RIP Harvey Korman. My favorite thing you ever did was the Carol Burnette show that I watched just about every week when I was a kid. I especially loved the stuff with Tim Conway. Oh geeze, how many times I thought my dad was gonna have a cardiac laughing so hard at that show. Ha. Man the guy can laugh! and I saw all the great Mel Brooks movies All classics. Man, what happened to comedy? Seems like so many people are too bored to ever laugh or maybe they just forgot how.

But its not just the passing of Harvey Korman but the passing of the whole genre of variety-comedy TV. Harvey Korman was the perfect guy for that scene. Sing, dance, act, improvise, the stars back then could do it all. Now, not so much.

I went to elementary school with Tim Conway's kids back in the early 1970's. I remember playing with Harvey Korman in the Conway's yard as a kid.

Trust me on this, the DUmmies are 10 times more insane and clueless than anyone on KOS or HuffPo can ever hope to be. There is one Marine on that thread who is quite patiently trying to explain why it is that marines need to conduct training in American cities in preparation for urban combat overseas. He is getting called every name in the book, and these are hard core Obama supporters. And many communists (admittedly) as well. I love these guys.

The problem today is that we are so ready to laugh at others, that we have forgotten to laugh at ourselves. Being human means that we are going to make mistakes, going to be stupid from time to time, going to do dumb things.
Being human is just funny. Even if we are the ones being funny...

Goodness, there is about 1/2 the world that hasn't learned to laugh at themselves....and that is really the problem with the world.

I was at the Renaissance Center in Detroit on a work related road trip and got to stand on the riverfront and watch airplanes practice for the Red Bull race thats taking place on the River this weekend. It was Spiritual.

Dudes were flying through the targets flipping their planes in circles and making hard turns. Way badass. One guy climbed straight up almost out of sight and then just shut it down and flopped down to Earth like a sheet of loose leaf for about 30 seconds before he regained control by going straight down pulling up within 30 feet of the water.

I am old enough to remember the F1 cars racing on the streets of Detroit every year they did it. But the Red Bull cropduster racing looks way cooler.

I bet Will Ferrel could learn to dance and do skits with Tim Conway.

I hope not, Mel Brooks is still alive.

I'm having a vision of Harvey, Cleavon Little, and Slim Pickens sharing some yucks at the Great Comedy Club in the Sky.

You have to have a certain persona to be a star, you know, and I don't have that. I'm a banana.
Harvey Korman

Rest in peace Mr. Korman, and God Speed!

Ah. We finally hit post #100 so I feel I can ask this OT question:

Has Mark Steyn appeared before the Canadian court yet?

re: #92 DesertSage
Hey Sage! Yup, Mel Brooks is still alive, LOL! It is a real shame about Harvey Korman though. He was a masterful straightman and funny even on his own.
And most of the stuff he did with Tim Conway was absolutely fall down hilarious!

103 Adrenalyn  Thu, May 29, 2008 8:59:53pm

yes, this is sad

I will play Blazing Saddles in his honor at the grand opening of my saloon next month

The publisher, who is in George Soros' back pocket. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Realwest, Regarding Steyn, what powers does a court have that a commission does not have? If it is a commission, does Steyn defend himself (presumed guilty?) with a phalanx of lawyers, just as in a court?

sorry....the Sierra Nevada's in Northern California
Placer County to be specific

the county with more CCW's in Ca than all others
I think more than all others combined if I am not mistaken
many of my neighbors have them
one has a daughter who happens to do the background checks for the Sheriff
it's a very polite area I tell you
not sure if there is a correlation

129 hermeneutics  Thu, May 29, 2008 9:18:00pm

From Jaunte's reference:

Canadian Human Rights Tribunals have a 100% conviction rate on “hate speech” charges. According to the BC Human Rights Code, decisions brought down by that province’s Human Rights Tribunals have “the same force and effect” as “a judgment of the Supreme Court.”

So, “when the British Columbia ‘Human Rights’ Tribunal finds us guilty,” writes Steyn, “they are statutorily obligated to issue a cease-and-desist order that will have the effect of preventing Maclean’s running any writing on Islam by me or anybody of a similar bent — even though the plaintiffs have not challenged the accuracy of a single fact or statistic or quotation.”

I think Steyn does indeed have a right to appeal from the Human Rights Commission to a Canadian Court, though I don't know what powers a Canadian Court would have regarding the findings of the the Commission - don't know if they could overturn that decision or not.

re: #12 MandyManners

I fell in love with him on Carol Burnett's show when I was a little girl.

Really? He used to drive me nuts. Loved carol and Tim, but Harvey was just that good. While working to aggravate the hell out of the others in their skits, it'd just come through and get me too, I guess.

But it didn't seem to bother me too much when Carol and Tim would do it to him when he was playing it straight. Go Figure.

145 tommygum  Fri, May 30, 2008 12:45:50am

He played a great Bud Abbot to Buddy Hackett's Lou Costello in a TV movie.

146 Maximu§  Fri, May 30, 2008 1:06:47am

Harvey could make people laugh just by making an expression, he was that talented and not many actors/comedians could pull it off.

Other actors who could do this were Jackie Gleason, Jack Benny, Bob Hope and Archie Bunker.

Man, I remember seeing him as a kid on the Carol Burnett show. He was always trying to keep a straight face while Tim Conway was going off on some ad-libbed tangent.... Watching him "not laugh" was usually funnier than whatever was going on in the skit.

He'll be missed.

BTW
Abe Vigoda is still alive!

Rest well Mr. Korman -- what a wonderful talent he was.

157 Land Shark  Fri, May 30, 2008 7:07:16am

This sucks. Harvey Korman was an amazing comedic actor. His work on The Carrol Burnett show, his roles in those classic Mel Brooks comedies like Blazing Saddles and History Of The World Part 1 were awesome comedy. He was a genuinely funny man and will be missed.

Rest in Peace, Harvey, and many thanks for the laughs.

Some of Harvey's best lines from "Blazing Saddles":

Taggart: I got it! I know how we can run everyone out of Rock Ridge.
Hedley Lamarr: How?
Taggart: We'll kill the first born male child in every household.
Hedley Lamarr: [after some intrigued consideration] ... Too Jewish.

Taggart: What do you want me to do, sir?
Hedley Lamarr: I want you to round up every vicious criminal and gunslinger in the west. Take this down.
[Taggart looks for a pen and paper while Hedley talks]
Hedley Lamarr: I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists.
Taggart: [finding pen and paper] Could you repeat that, sir?
169 Tigger2005  Fri, May 30, 2008 12:57:05pm

He did an awesome Robert Shaw impersonation in Carol Burnett's "Jaws" take-off...loved him as Rhett Butler too...and Ed, Eunice's husband...and who can forget the fat lady medium from "As the Stomach Turns"...and the director of the "Institute for the Very Very Nervous" in Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety"...

170 Barry the Baptist  Fri, May 30, 2008 1:05:34pm

'Sir you look just like the piss boy!'

'And you look like a bucket of sh*t!'

Great line. Great actor. He will be missed.

171 Gmac  Fri, May 30, 2008 1:53:48pm

He defined 'teh funny' for so many years, "Blazing Saddles" was his best imho.
I'm sad that he's gone but know that God just picked up one of the best comedians out there.

172 Dr. Mabuse  Fri, May 30, 2008 6:06:27pm

I'm so sorry to hear about Harvey Korman's death. A few months ago, I happened to see a program-length commercial for a special release of the best of the Carol Burnett Show on dvd. Korman, Burnett and Tim Conway were all together reminiscing about making the show, and they showed some extensive clips from it too. I was struck by the fact that this was a weekly variety show, and they employed a full-size dancing chorus. Just watching some clips of the musical finales they'd end the show with, I was stunned by the huge, elaborate sets, the costumes, the choreography - it was so lavish, where do you EVER see something like that on TV anymore? And they did it every week during their season.

I remember Harvey in drag in 'As The Stomach Churns', though I remembered him as a Jewish yenta, not a medium. Just thinking of him lumbering about with those enormous boobs, then sitting down on the couch and half-lying there like a beached walrus, makes me want to laugh. And I clearly remember some Western drama they were spoofing, where Vikki Lawrence suddenly pulls a gun on him and orders him to draw. "I can't draw on a woman - it's the Code of the West!" BANG! "WHAT A STUPID CODE!"
