Silly Moonbat Story of the Day

Fri, May 30, 2008 at 12:35:23 pm PDT

The idiots who want to “Recreate 68” at the Denver Democratic Convention, led by the ACLU, are demanding that the city of Denver reveal how they’re planning to stop demonstrators from disrupting the convention: ACLU Sues Denver For Democratic Convention Weapons Information.

The city told them to buzz off.

DENVER (CBS4) — The American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit against the city of Denver after an open records request for information about the purchasing of security equipment for the Democratic National Convention was denied. The group wants to know what weapons the city is buying for crowd control during protests.

“Aren’t you asking the police to reveal their tactics?” CBS4 asked.

“No, we’re not asking the police to reveal tactics, we’re asking the police to reveal how they are spending the public’s money,” said Mark Silverstein of the ACLU.

Panic on the Left.
They know a brokered convention is a disaster.

Democratic contest will end next week, Reid says

SAN FRANCISCO — The race between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination will be over by the end of next week, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Club of California, Reid, D-Nev., said he consulted Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Wednesday night and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, on Thursday morning, and they all agree.

If neither candidate has clinched the nomination after the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee decides this weekend what to do about Florida's and Michigan's contested delegations, or after Puerto Rico's primary Sunday and Montana's and South Dakota's on Tuesday, he'll advise Senate Democrats to end the contest by taking sides as superdelegates, he said. A significant block of congressional superdelegates all moving at once would most likely put one candidate over the number needed to clinch the nomination.

Connoisseurs of moral inversion will especially enjoy #9.

7. Not to publicly criticize the tactics used by other parts of our movement or cooperate with media efforts to be divisive or portray good protester/bad protester.
8. To publicly condemn police repression and brutality.
9. To be conscious that if violence or property destruction does occur, we will do what we can to help prevent it from being blown out of proportion and dominating the media coverage.

67 lawhawk  Fri, May 30, 2008 12:56:29pm

re: #27 jcm

Well, that goes without saying. They're going to try as hard as they can to get Hillary to drop out, despite the fact that they've got an unmitigated disaster on their hands courtesy of none other than Dr. Demento himself - Howard Dean.

His decree that MI and FL should not have their delegates seated is the prime reason for this fiasco. Had he chosen a partial seating back when FL and MI both decided to move up in the primaries, no problem. Had he chosen to stick to his word and not seat those delegations, less of a problem - at least he and the DNC wouldn't be complete hypocrites for calling for every vote to be counted.

But, with this nonsensical meeting this weekend, they're going to rewrite the rules as they go - making it up as they go along.

And Hillary will continue to have a very valid point that those FL votes should count towards her totals - both the popular and delegates, and that Obama still can't possibly win big states.

Obama might lead in delegates - but supers aren't pledged until at the convention, so Hillary could still sneak through.

And everyone knows that both candidates are flawed, which is why they've got this huge mess. They can all see the numbers, and the handwriting on the wall.

In a year when the GOP should probably get trounced because they have repeatedly shown themselves unwilling to act on conservative principles and limit spending (to name just one area), the Democrats are showing just how mismanaged they area and that gives the GOP hope to carry the Presidency behind a flawed candidate of their own - John McCain.

Recreating 1968 (again), Lieutenant Kerry Fires on Commander McCain'!

Lt. Kerry, reporting for duty, frags Team USA:
* * *
McCain Camp Fires Back on Iraq

At a campaign event yesterday, John McCain said, "I can look you in the eye and tell you [the surge] is succeeding. We have drawn down to pre-surge levels." Obama-supporter John Kerry then attacked McCain on his "comprehension" of Iraq:

"It’s very disturbing to have John McCain constantly raise questions about what he knows and what he bases his judgments on,” Kerry said. “If you don’t know the number of troops it’s very difficult to make a judgment on if they are over-extended.” Kerry continued, “It raises serious questions about his comprehension of this challenge.”

Does the Obama campaign really want to go there?

Team McCain just held a media conference call with the campaign's foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann and Senator Jon Kyl, who conclude that no, Obama doesn’t want to go there. "It's instructive that the Obama campaign, rather than deal with that real issue and Obama's lack of experience, is trying to nitpick the verb or the tense of the verb about the surge troops being home," said Kyl. Obama hasn’t been to Iraq since January 2006, and McCain has been five times since then.

"The real point is that al Qaeda has been significantly, significantly degraded in Iraq as well as other places, that the surge that General Petraeus put into place last year has significantly worked, that violence is significantly down, and that as a result of these successes, we are able to bring troops home," said Kyl. Three of the five surge brigades are home and the rest will be home by July, so McCain wasn't incorrect in his statement that we have "drawn down to pre-surge levels."

Scheunemann focused on the Obama camp's dismissive response to the idea of a trip to Iraq with McCain and Obama's numerous gaffes this week. "Senator Obama has said he will follow his withdrawal plan which amounts to retreat and surrender regardless of the events on the ground, regardless of the advice of military commanders," said Scheunemann, responding to a reporter who questioned McCain's verb usage. "If we're going to talk about verb tenses in this level of detail rather than the fact that Senator Obama doesn't care enough about what's going on in Iraq to either meet General Petraeus or to take the time to visit the country in the last 873 days, let's talk about some of the other things Senator Obama has said, like campaigning in 57 states...or...a nonexistent uncle that helped the Red Army liberate Auschwitz."

Jeffrey Goldberg: A final question: Senator Obama talked about how his life was influenced by Jewish writers, Philip Roth, Leon Uris. How about you?

JM: There’s Elie Wiesel, and Victor Frankl. I think about Frankl all the time. “Man’s Search for Meaning” is one of the most profound things I’ve ever read in my life. And maybe on a little lighter note, “War and Remembrance” and “Winds of War” are my two absolute favorite books. I can tell you that one of my life’s ambitions is to meet Herman Wouk.* “War and Remembrance” for me, it’s the whole thing.

Then there’s Joe Lieberman, who lives a life of his religion, and who does it in the most humble way.

JG: Not a big Philip Roth fan?

JM: No, I’m not. Leon Uris I enjoyed. Victor Frankl, that’s important. I read it before my captivity. It made me feel a lot less sorry for myself, my friend. A fundamental difference between my experience and the Holocaust was that the Vietnamese didn’t want us to die. They viewed us as a very valuable asset at the bargaining table. It was the opposite in the Holocaust, because they wanted to exterminate you. Sometimes when I felt sorry for myself, which was very frequently, I thought, “This is nothing compared to what Victor Frankl experienced.”

Finally! A presidential candidate who publicly recognizes Philip Roth’s pretentious drivel for what it is. I’ve never felt closer to or more supportive of the McCain campaign.

Suspect that the following has been posted before, but now it is a Reuter's story:

Muslim scholar responds to “Sharia smear” against Obama

Two recent op-ed articles in the United States presented Barack Obama as a “Muslim apostate” according to “Muslim law as it is universally understood.” Since Muslims were bound to see him as an apostate, they argued, the potential next president could be seen as “al Qaeda’s candidate” because Islamists could whip up popular anger in the Muslim world by portraying him as a turncoat heading a Western war against Islam. He also risked assassination, one suggested, because Muslim law considers apostasy a crime worthy of the death sentence and bars punishment for any Muslim who kills an apostate.
[...]
A respected Islamic scholar, Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im, has now given a Muslim response to the supposed Islamic legal arguments[...]
The argument by Luttwak “is wrong from a Sharia point of view, and false in terms of the present political and legal realities of Muslim-majority countries,” An-Na’im writes. “Those who think Muslims will respond negatively to Sen. Obama based on his presumed religion have an overly simplistic view of what it means to be Muslim today.“

239 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Fri, May 30, 2008 1:45:30pm

Infantilism is the preferred method of political expression of the far left.

The Dems are set to offer the nation (the world!) the farthest left candidate since Gus Hall, the perennial Commie Candidate of the 60s and 70s. Why in the world woudl they want to screw this up, the opportunity of a lifetime?

Obama has a real chance of winning.

Let's assume that our CIA are the same ineffective morons that did not see 911 and figured out all on their own in the NIE that Iran is not working on their nuclear weapons program. Let's assume that Osama wants to discredit Bush and pave the way for BHO to be POTUS; if you think he does not have a dozen or more Jihadis ready to go in NYC alone, you don't understand al Qaeda. We know that a couple of years back he stopped a sarin gas in the subways attack; having kicked his butt in Iraq and Afghanistan, OBL is a vengeful fellow whose ego craves attention. The US border is a sieve and most of the stuff can be found or stolen here anyway.

Since he does not share his plans with me, a shame, I can only speculate but he likes cheap, nasty, showy and symbolic- a series of dirty bombs in several US cities would neatly fit the bill. The cost to the US and disruption to the economy would be huge, the PR value even higher. The question is how the US would respond at the polls. Punish Republicans for Bush's failings or take the military guy? Turn to Obama to "rescue us" from terror or vote to fight the scum to the end?

The cost to the Islamic world, if such an even occurs should not be overstated. The one thing about Osama's Islamic logic (Islam does guide him remember) is he does not appear to understand what the US might do if he does dirty bomb a US city. We held back after 911; that will not happen a second time. The price to the Islamic world if the worst happens will be horrible.

Yet in such turbulent times, the Democratic party is committing both short term and long term suicide with Obama. They are foisting a guy clearly not ready for it as their standard bearer. Obama's connections at every turn to far left fellow travelers is a disaster in waiting. It could cause the electorate to just reject him in the fall. Nevermind the fact that Obama's claimed biggest selling point is getting our troops out of Iraq- now that we have victory in sight!

The real downside is the cost if he wins. Since Carter, only 8 of the last 28 years has seen a Democrat in the White House. Carter changed the US electorate hard to the right. President BHO might finish the party forever.

The only reason McCain is viable is that he viewed as his own man, The pounding Republicans have seen in by-elections has been illustrative of anger towards a party that talks conservative and then loads up on earmarks. The Republican party has so far failed to wake up to the electorate, in some ways they are as asleep at the wheel as the Democratic congressional leadership. When you have an 11% approval rating, one should not be to smug about one's prospects. A centrist fiscally conservative party might emerge that eats the Democrats and Republicans alive. McCain and Lieberman may just found the party to give voters a real alternative that is not beholden to Teachers Unions and oil companies.

Gee whiz, all we ever got to do in grade school was the Duck and Cover drill, and play duck, duck, gray duck...Gosh I'm old...

I'm slightly offended at the anti-opera attitude here, lizards! It's a very nice browser If anyone criticizing Wagner would listen to excerpts of Der Ring des Nibelungen, and consider he was writing in the late 1840's, and compare it to his contemporaries, his music is astonishingly modern.

Alright, he was the nineteenth century of a Moonbat, but his music is beautiful.

Paraphrasing Duke Ellington, There are two types of music, good and bad.

Charles, would you care to weigh in?

Take it or leave it as you will - but liking some music doesn't make anyone an insufferable asshat.

Sorry if I offended you there, I was being facetious in my assessment. I didn't intend to mean someone who like it is an asshat, but was merely posing the question there might some poseurs who wished to fit in some group in society.

Thanks! I guess I feel the same way. BTW does anybody know where I can get me one of those insufferable asshats. I can think of a whole lot of Obamaroids that would benefit from a genuine insufferable asshat.

Thousands of children with recorders playing the Brown Note.

LOL! Mythbusters explored the possibility of the mythical "brown note" and it was unfortunately, busted.

What weapons for crowd control? Hopefully they'll just use the tried and true recipe of nightstick combined with tear gas and mace, apply firehose as needed.

Of course there is always the tried and true favorite, the "hickory shampoo."

It does work -- with fairly frequent applications.

“No, we’re not asking the police to reveal tactics, we’re asking the police to reveal how they are spending the public’s money,” said Mark Silverstein of the ACLU.

Oh don't worry Mr. Silverstein, you'll find out soon enough. I'm sure we'll fast track the consolidation of that material and have it to you no later than early December.
