What Cognito bashing thread? I was all over a thread where Reuters was whining about squabbling and bickering. I guess I've missed the side show.

BTW ALL Y'ALL - speaking of music, there's a stupid commercial on TV now, that starts with a guy looking for a new TV set and the background song is "We want it all, we want it all, we want it all, and we want it now!" and I know I've heard that song before (no, it's not the DNC national anthem! LOL!) but can't remember the group or name of the song, though for some reason I think it was Queen, but Imeem searches show nothing at all!
Anyone know what I'm talking about and/or who the artist (a group I believe) are or song title is?

As a healthy, wealthy and wise man once said, "That is a rule up with which I cannot put."

No, YOU didn't make it about you, but all the time wasted trying to get a simple point about blatent media bias rings like a church bell.

And I sometimes have that problem with YouTube also. I finally got rid of it by dumping cache and cookies and all temp internet files - a thorough cleaning and now YouTube works fine - maybe a question of available RAM ?

Here's an optimistic photo that a typical Dem would utterly despise. How dare those greedy evil corporate types try to unite people!
Its a cap toss with the highest achieving seniors from all the Metro Detroit high schools. It flies in the face of Democratic party mentality. 1) It included kids from all high schools, including religious and charter schools. 2) It rewards high achievers, not victims 3) Selection was based solely on merit.
That picture sums up whats wrong with the Democratic party. They would NEVER endorse such an event.

So, apparently, the only reason Obama won his election to the IL State Senate was because he got all of his opponents disqualified, including one because some of the signatures that got her onto the ballot weren't in cursive. "Count every vote" my ass.
Couple that with the fact that he only had to beat Alan Keyes in '03 and Obama's never had to fight in an election before.

Luckily, it's never gotten that far.
I've never gotten the slightest indication that these people have a clue where I live -- they're not even sure what American state I'm in (despite the give-away evidence in the photo section of zombietime).
I take that back -- a couple years ago, I did get a creepy Mo mail sent not to my zombietime address, but to my private email address. Really really freaked me out for a while -- how in the world did they find it out? I worried for a while but nothing ever came of it. I later realized what they did, and it was reassuring -- somewhat. I can't reveal it, but I knew then that they still didn't know who I was. Silence ever since then.
That was the one and only breach of the zombie/[real name] barrier. A fluke.

If Hillary throws in the towel before the election, and Obama is already a done deal, then I can't really see the purpose of going -- other than to document the moonbats in the streets, but I guarantee there'll be 1,000,000 cameras there doing the same thing.

Honestly, I don't think without your presence there that anybody is going to get a well-rounded sense of the DNC. Most of the media will just gloss over any problems so that the Dems look united. Even Fox will probably go easy on them(given that Murdoch has already admitted to promoting bias in his news organization's reporting).
And that leaves...zombie...as our only hope.
Seeriously.

As for Denver -- no plans at all yet, but I'm not 100% ruling it out. Someone would have to really really convince me.
If Hillary throws in the towel before the election, and Obama is already a done deal, then I can't really see the purpose of going -- other than to document the moonbats in the streets, but I guarantee there'll be 1,000,000 cameras there doing the same thing.

You need to remember: NO ONE in my private life knows I'm "zombie" or that I even have a Web site or anything along those lines. I can go off to a protest and it's easy enough to cover my tracks excuse-wise, but how will I explain disappearing for an entire week (which this would entail)? I've never watched even one second of it.
But everything I've read about it says the same thing:
It's a show about gay men in New York, but as a gimmick they used female actresses to portray the men. I thought this was universally known, but to my astonishment I just discovered that many of the show's fans don't even know it's about gay men.
The writers (all gay) have openly discussed in interviews how the show is their attempt to "queer the culture" and introduce straight people to gay urban lifestyles -- using the trick of making it seem to be about straight women.
Also, they purposely chose actresses who look like men in drag. That's part of the in-joke.
I'm still surprised not everyone knows this.

Well, from what I read, the show's writers write the whole thing imagining gay male characters -- their personalities, the behavior, their speech, and so on. And then the script is later edited so the lines make sense being said by female actresses. But basically, the show is about gay men, as portrayed by females (whether or not those females seem like trannies to the viewer).

By the way, there are no Uno humans, there are zero human purebreds in modern human reality, we are all, in fact, genetic mutts. You can continue to use "race" as a descriptor of differences in human appearance but it has little genetic meaning. What you can't do is put up a living human being as the prototypical example of any given "race", like Uno, for the purebred beagle, because no such human exists. We've been interbred too much over the centuries and there's no going back, there are no purebred human "races".

While I agree that most people are mutts, I think that there still are some "purebreeds" around. Just about everybody in the Americas is likely to be a mutt, but somewhere in the Australian Outback there is a 100% aborigine, and somewhere on a mountain in Yunnan province there is someone who's a close to being 100% "Asian" as you can get, and so on. Not every group has been globalized and interbred (though most have).
In the end, our dispute may just all come down to a difference of opinion on terminology -- some people (understandably so) find the term "race" offensive due to historical abuse. I accept that. I just use it because it theoretically describes what we're referring to, instead of the cumbersome "(originally) geographic-based differences in appearance passed genetically from one generation to the next" or some similar unwieldy phrase.

Not sure, yet. Sometimes in the inner city these things can result in a little gun play. My old-school stucco is pretty much concrete, so I'm cool as long as I lay low. Right now, it's a very low-tempo back and forth, from distance, which actually makes me a little more nervous.
It's away from me, and I have a fenced yard, which makes it undesirable as a possible escape route. There's just one significant condition, considering the direction, that could put me in a potential line of fire if it were to come to that.

I saw that earlier today. Astounding that there are still tribes that have never been contacted by civilization! In another article on that tribe it said that there are estimated to still be 100 tribes in Brazil and Peru (Peru? Crazy!) that have never been contacted.
In the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami three years ago, the government of India tried to check up on the well-being of the Solomon Islands, to see how many people were killed there, and on some islands the government helicopters were chased away by bow-and-arrow wielding tribes that had apparently never had any contact with the outside world yet either.

Well we're in full agreement on that.
In an American context, the old racist attitude is the "one drop rule" -- even one drop of African blood in your veins means you count as a "black" person. Which of course is completely ridiculous (and was a racist custom designed purposely to discourage interbreeding). For reasons I've never understood, that attitude has persisted to this day, and children (such as Obama) who are half of one thing and half another are encouraged (commanded, actually) to self-identify as "black," even though they could just as easily self identify as whatever else race is in the mix.
In the last few decades the concept of identity politics has spuin out of control. The days of "Pinky" are long gone. Obama would be laughed out of the race if he announced he considered himself "white," even though there's no reason he shouldn't have that option open to him.
The only bright spot is that there are so many mixed-race children in the up-and-coming generations that being "mixed" is now emerging as a category all its own. So kids aren't bullied into choosing a category. Hopefully that trend will continue.

The majority of those instances can be attributed to the maintenance of the vehicles I've driven (fresh brakes, fresh tires, tight suspension, ect.) just as much as they might be attributed to my instincts.

Having blurted out, probably accidentally, that the surge was in fact successful, Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants now scrambles to credit the enemy nation murdering our troops with the victory our troops accomplished through blood, sweat, tears, and more blood.
It's not our troops. It's not Petraeus' leadership. It's not the Iraqis turning on the Al Qaeda murderers. No -- it's Iran's goodwill.
Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn’t happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians.

Along the lines of speciation and dubious purity...
Meet Homo Stupidicus.
Society today is composed of two distinct species. The first, Homo sapiens...what we consider to be normal intelligent logical people who understand cause and effect, people that understand nothing is free and everthing costs something.
The second species is Homo Stupidicus. This species believes that they are entiteled to have all the wonderful things in life but that they should not have to work for it. The believe that they should not have to risk anything but still reap success. They believe that government can create money out of thin air and should give it to everyone that doesn’t have enough.
Homo Stupidicus has grown, prospered and bred to become a majority of the populace because Homo Sapiens had a minor brain fart and created welfare, social security and modern medicine. Prior to these inventions Homo Stupidicus rarely lived long enough to breed.
We have shortcircuited the filter in the gene pool....Homo Stupidicus is now breeding rampantly and has reached a critical mass where the members of this species outnumber Homo Sapiens. They continue to demand more and more from the productive species while becoming less and less capable of self control, self direction, self reliance and at times self awareness.
The two species are virtually indistinguishable physically. You cannot determine which species you are confronted with by simply looking at them. You have to listen to them to find out whether they are sapient...intelligent, or stupidicus. Homo Stupidicus will invariably make their presence know by the socialistic bleatings they utter.
Most Homo Sapiens are politically conservative or independent. Homo Stupidicus is almost exclusively liberal or apolitical....meaning they don’t care who is in charge as long as the food stamps and welfare check shows up every month.

We have been doing a mint julep night for the last 3 weeks. not served martini style, but in a hurricane class with fresh mint etc.

not even the same thing....
fresh mint in the bottom of the shaker, add ice
good vodka from the freezer, and simple syrup.
2 shots vodka and anywhere from a tsp to a tbls of simple syrup, depending on preference. add the vodka first, or the syrup will freeze to the ice.
shake vigorously, and pour through fine mesh to catch mint leaf pieces.
adjust mint volume for flavor preference, as with the syrup.

Political Foes Turn Screws on Musharraf
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — For eight years, President Pervez Musharraf dominated Pakistan and charmed the West as a straight-talking ally in the war on terror.
Now his political foes are in the driving seat and the former army chief is a beleaguered figure, under mounting pressure to resign.
Yet he retains the support of U.S. President George W. Bush, and Musharraf seems in no mood to give way, even though the parties in the new civilian government are arrayed against him.
In a significant shift this week, Asif Ali Zardari, the leader of the largest party in the coalition that took power after crushing the president's allies in February elections, explicitly called for Musharraf's resignation. He had earlier appeared willing to work with him.
"We believe Musharraf must go because the people of Pakistan no longer want him," said party spokesman Farhatullah Babar.

"Mint Julep Martini"
by good i meant "not that $9/1.75L schise"..... the Burnett brand at Trader Joes is quite serviceable straight or mixed, and that's what's in the freezer currently. as for syrup, i just use some of the hummingbird crack we always have on hand..... it's a bit stronger than simple syrup, but it's always fresh and it saves me the trouble of making up a separate batch for bar tending.

i've got 20 feeders in the back yard, and they last ~2 days at most. during migration and winter cold snaps, i'm refilling them daily or more.
everyone says to make nectar 4-1, water to sugar. i'm running 2-1 or so, sugar to water. on the batches i get carried away on, i get floating crystals when it cools and i have to add a skosh more water to get in all in solution. i buy my sugar 50#s at a time from Fart & Smile, and a bag lasts 3-4 weeks max.
upside is, we have *lots* of hummers year 'round, and 2H6 is a birder.

What's with the "new" youtube volume control? It's partially been around for awhile but it's on most videos now. It's annoying, harder to manipulate etc. For those of us that still don't have a Cray Computer and a home T1 at least we can still right click and select Quality=Low until the liberal "programmers" take that away soon. The youtube video 'positioning' bar is still coarse and not very granular. Wish the (Youtube/Google) liberal "elite" would test their own software once in awhile.
