Nice. But Charles, how long until we can do that on each thread, and choose the level of significance (votes) we want?

I've finally gotten a chance to catch my breath and check out the new feature.

I get down on the ground and grovel in gratitude at the almighty King of Code! I have been begging for a feature like this for at least a year, if not longer.

At last! My dream come true! I can stop throwing virgins into the volcano.

THANK YOU OH MIGHTY ONE!

They're gonna have indigestion figuring out how their candidate will spin this in the fall:
[Link: rightwingnuthouse.com...]

I don’t think there’s any doubt now that Obama has spent a good part of his political career dabbling in radical leftist politics. When did he change his mind and come back to the mainstream? It appears his candidacy for the US Senate convinced him he could get farther without the radicals as he could with them. It is there that he dropped associations with Woods Foundation, ACORN, and probably said goodbye to Ayers, Dohrn and that other radical friend, Rashid Khalidi whose wife’s Arab American Action Network received $70,000 in grants from Woods.

OT: I hadn't read Brave New World in ages, so I got a copy from the library and just finished rereading it. What a strange, odd book. Folks are claiming (on the back cover) that "it was so prescient," but I think there are a lot of areas in world where they would repudiate that.

34 zombie  Sat, May 31, 2008 1:33:30pm

The whole purpose, as I envisioned it, it to provide a reward system for outstanding comments, so people will strive to leave the best/most insightful/wittiest/most devatating comment, and earn a top spot on the "Best Comments" list! The end result: better comments on LGF overall.

Combined with the delete stick and the banning stick, this will lead to the best comments section on the web! (Well, it already is the best comments section -- but it widen the gap between us and the competition!)

Sort of an Adam Smith approach to comments: Each person striving to be the best leads to a better comment environment for all!

Sorry, OT, but seekeroftruth put this up in the spinoffs, and my head is going to explode.

Obama says his ears too big for Rushmore

MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) — Democrat Barack Obama paid an unscheduled late-night visit to Mount Rushmore Friday, visiting the national memorial at closing time and joking that his ears were too big to ever be included in such a display.

Asked by a reporter if he ever envisioned himself carved into the mountain, he said, "I don't think my ears would fit. There's only so much rock up there."

I cannot envision any achievement Obama could even consider an accomplishment that would make him a candidate for any honor mush less Mount Rushmore. Someone, anyone, any democrat, anywhere - please name us one accomplishment Barack Obama has performed that makes him worthy of praise. Please tell us what future potential accomplishment Barack Obama talks to, that may, just may, be worthy of any honor.

Maybe we need read his resume again, but from what I've read, Barack Obama's resume is somewhat scant when it comes to accomplishments.

Congresswoman nervous as husband goes to space

By MARCIA DUNN – 1 hour ago

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — With her husband in command of space shuttle Discovery and on the verge of launching, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords wanted to set the record straight.

She wasn't there as a member of Congress. She was there "strictly as the spouse" — the new wife of commander Mark Kelly — and just as excited and nervous as any of the other astronauts' family members.

"We've been married six months, and the space program is relatively new to me," she said Saturday.

So they got the new Russian toilet pump on board before launch, right? Also an extra case of paper towels and 409 cleaner, I hope.

And some Ozium. Pee-yeew.

When does NASA remove that little tip cap from the shuttle so it can take off?

At the T-2 minutes point. The "beanie" is there to remove the oxygen gas that accumulates as some of liquid oxygen boils off after fueling.

Come on, I trashed the reporter. ;-)

I called him/her hopelessly biased, treating Obama as a god, and then went on to hint the reporter was racist.

(Did end up defending Obama in the process...but hey, I've defended FRANCE in a post before.)

:) roundbout shot at our resident reporter, tis all.

On our last tour, the guide told us that one person has the job of watching the launch pad area with special goggles looking for heat sources, because one of the gases burns in an invisible flame, one that is very hot. Because it is invisible, it would be possible to have a fire that no one sees, and a worker who walked into it would be killed instantly.

Launches still scare me. I guess I'll never forget Challenger.

I was in school when that happened. People still made a big deal out of the space program back then, so my whole school was in the gym/auditorium watching it live.

The shock was palpable, you could have heard a pin drop from a mile away.

So, Michelle O - does the launch of a Space Shuttle make you proud? At all?

no, she's not concerned w/ such things. she can't imagine how it would help her children/

My guess is that would me a hydrogen flame. At launch, there's about 120 tons of liquid hydrogen in the external tank, and some of it is always venting off as it slowly warms (liquid Hydrogen boils at -423° F.) The light produced by a hydrogen flame is mostly ultraviolet, and therefore nearly invisible to the human eye.

I think the venting hydrogen gas is also the reason for the "sparklers" that you see lit beneath the Shuttle about 10 seconds before launch. At that point, they want any accumulated hydrogen to burn off before the main engines ignite.

A rising tide sinks all crappy comments.

In Russian toilet, toilet sprays you.

In space with less gravity, not sure the spills go where you can wipe them.
