Great news coming out of Iraq this morning proving once again that the President just needs to keep changing generals till he finds the right one. The AP (al-qaeda propagandists),of course, shows their bias, loud and clear, in the title but this is good news. Even as deaths plunge the AP remain convinced the US will lose

Deaths in Iraq Plunge, but Will It Last?
U.S. military deaths plunged in May to the lowest monthly level in more than four years and civilian casualties were down sharply, too, as Iraqi forces assumed the lead in offensives in three cities and a truce with Shiite extremists took hold.

But many Iraqis as well as U.S. officials and private security analysts are uncertain whether the current lull signals a long-term trend or is simply a breathing spell like so many others before.

And in a completely unrelated note.

French minister's visit shows new stance on Iraq
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner met Iraq's president on Saturday during a visit officials said showed Paris's renewed commitment to a country whose 2003 invasion by U.S.-led troops it strongly opposed.
[snip]
Kouchner discussed the possibility of French companies investing in Iraq at the meeting with the Iraqi officials in Nassiriya, said Abdul Hussein Dawod, spokesman for the provincial governor.

I knew we could count on the French to back us up as soon as there was almost no danger and money to be made. Thanks, for the help mon amie. The US could have used it five years ago but better late than never.

The Alamo... important because it slowed the Mexican advance on its way to capture New Orleans, and with New Orleans, the whole Mississippi-Missouri watershed of 17 (would become) states...

The Alamo was THAT important... I missed that little detail in my youth, only picked it up a few years ago...

Does Hillary have an Alamo she can put in Obama's path?

Awe inspiring aren't they. Spent some time up in Sault Ste Marie, Canada version once in the summer and once in the winter. Seeing two sides of the lake give you a whole appreciation for the song. One bone of contention with the words. Superior wasn't called Gitchee Gumey(sp), that was the name for the monster/witch that lived in the lake. There's a rock on the lake in Lake Superior provincial park that has a pictograph of the first voyage across the lake to settle the north shore. Hmmm, might be online some where. Be right back going to yahoo. ;)

They created a Sophie's Choice. If they deny Obama the nomination the blacks will walk away. If Hillary doesn't get it, a percentage of women will be ticked enough to vote for McCain.

I believe they're calculating that the women will return someday, while the blacks would be lost forever.

Time for a laugh
There are lots of different kinds of sex when you get married. For example, when you are newlyweds, you have kitchen sex--the passion is so intense you can't wait to go to the bedroom, it's right here right now, might be on the kitchen counter or the dining room table.
Next, there is bedroom sex. This is after a number of years of marriage, maybe a kid or 2, and you are limited to Saturday morning cartoons hour in the privacy of your own bedroom.

After that comes hall sex. That is when you have been married a LONGGGGGGGGGGG time and you pass each other in the hall, and your spouse says, "F*** you." And you reply, "No, F*** YOU."

(Author unknown)
Age old question,
BARACK OBAMA:
The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

JOHN McCAIN:
My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON:
When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure -- right from Day One! -- that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me...

DR. PHIL:
The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems.

OPRAH:
Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

COLIN POWELL:
Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN:
We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JOHN KERRY:
Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

NANCY GRACE:
That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN:
To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART:
No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS:
Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY:
To die in the rain. Alone.

cont.

JERRY FALWELL:
Because the chicken was gay! Can't you people see the plain truth? That's why they call it the 'other side'. Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And if you eat that chicken, you will become gay too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media white washes with seemingly harmless phrases like 'the other side'. That chicken should not be crossing the road. It's as plain and as simple as that.

GRANDPA:
In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS:
Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the
chicken tell, for the first time, the heartwarming story of how it
experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE:
It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON:
Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace..

ALBERT EINSTEIN:
Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken ?

BILL CLINTON:

The Alamo

/revisionist history

From Wikipedia

El Degüello is a bugle call of Moorish origin notable in its use by the Mexican Army during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. According to James A. Michener's book Texas, the original meaning of the Degüello call was an appeal to an enemy to surrender or else they would die by the sword. General Antonio López de Santa Anna of the Mexican Army used it to signify that no quarter would be given to the enemy.

According to various English-Spanish dictionaries, El Degüello means no mercy. The literal translation is slit-throat. Michener's book translates it as The Beheading.

Another great contiribution to Western culture from the Religion of Peace.

99 J.D.  Sun, Jun 1, 2008 5:47:55am

Just got back from a wedding and sitting next to 2 Obama "supporters". They don't know why.

It is to laugh.

...Democratic women are feeling metaphorically battered by the Obama campaign. "Healing The Wounds Of Democrats' Sexism," as the Boston Globe headline put it, will not be easy. Geraldine Ferraro is among many prominent Democrat ladies putting up their own money for a study from the Shorenstein Center at Harvard to determine whether Sen. Clinton's presidential hopes fell victim to party and media sexism.

How else to explain why their gal got clobbered by a pretty boy with a resume you could print on the back of his driver's license, a Rolodex apparently limited to neosegregationist race-baiters, campus Marxist terrorists and indicted fraudsters, and a rhetorical surefootedness that makes Dan Quayle look like Socrates.

"On this Memorial Day," said Barack Obama last Monday, "as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes – and I see many of them in the audience here today."

Hey, why not? In Obama's Cook County, Ill., many fallen heroes from the Spanish-American War still show up in the voting booths come November. It's not unreasonable for some of them to turn up at an Obama campaign rally, too.

Steyn just has a way with words...

Apologies if you've already seen this in Obama bus thread 2...

Hugh Hewitt recently did a wonderful takedown of Obama's rhetorical style which you really ought to listen to. It's funny, but also extremely incisive. Bottom line: most of the time Obama has no idea what he's talking about.

Go here. The clip you want is number 29, hour 2 of the May 20 show (clip number 28, which is hour 3, is titled 'Obama audio' but it's clip 29, 'Dean Barnett', that you want).

The essence of Hugh's analysis starts at around 7 minutes and lasts about 3 minutes, but you should listen from the start to get the context, and listen to the rest of the hour, and hour 3, if you have the time.

Someone with more time and expertise than me needs to put this on YouTube, with a slideshow of shots from Obama rallies.

Yup, I'm waiting (probably in vain) for someone to propose to the good Mayor, that all wine, beer and "Spirits" be taxed at the same level as Cigs - after all, I'm sure that the AMA has said alcohol consumption - or, more accurately, OVER consumption - causes as much if not more health care problems (and thereby increases the costs of health care) as much as cig's do and, in fact, if you count all those poor folks who are killed by drunk drivers - even in NYC - alcohol should be taxed higher than cig's to preserve life and limb (and make more tax money for NYC which is what this is all about). I mean what the hell, the good Mayor has already banned smoking in Bars, why not increase the price of a shot of booze by - oh, I dunno - $3.00 a shot and beer $1.50 per glass?

I thought during the am session it was interesting that all 4 of the Dems who removed themselves from the Michigan ballot signed affidavits... and that this was ignored when the rules committee made their decision.

It was very interesting to view, with a couple "oh no they didn't" moments. One of the most interesting was during the Michigan discussion when it was mentioned briefly that there was an effort to vote "uncommitted" on local radio and that a couple of the candidates handed out hand bills encouraging Dem voters to vote uncommitted... Obama was mentioned.

But not surprisingly, unless it came up in the debate, there were no further questions and they let it pass.

The Iraqi Upturn Don't look now, but the U.S.-backed government and army may be winning the war.

...If the positive trends continue, proponents of withdrawing most U.S. troops, such as Mr. Obama, might be able to responsibly carry out further pullouts next year. Still, the likely Democratic nominee needs a plan for Iraq based on sustaining an improving situation, rather than abandoning a failed enterprise. That will mean tying withdrawals to the evolution of the Iraqi army and government, rather than an arbitrary timetable; Iraq's 2009 elections will be crucial. It also should mean providing enough troops and air power to continue backing up Iraqi army operations such as those in Basra and Sadr City. When Mr. Obama floated his strategy for Iraq last year, the United States appeared doomed to defeat. Now he needs a plan for success.

Veterans share their stories, urge an end to the war in Iraq

By LISA STIFFLER
P-I REPORTER

One former soldier recounted an interrogation of an Iraqi by his fellow combatants so brutal he likened it to "a frat house gang rape."

Another was still troubled not by his close brushes with death, but by the times he nearly shot innocent Iraqi civilians.

And a third was exasperated and puzzled by being asked to fulfill what he called "ridiculous" orders to harass Iraqi residents and was discouraged to help those in distress. He called the war "immoral and absurd."

All came together Saturday afternoon at Seattle's Town Hall to share their troubling and sometimes graphic war stories in the hopes that they will inspire and motivate a largely silent public to call for an end to the military occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pews you can lose [Mark Steyn]

As one of the early trailblazers for the Rev Wright put it, greater love hath no man than to lay down his friends for his life. In among all the usual presidential ditching of inconvenient associations, I can't think of anything to compare with Obama's dumping of Trinity. It's like Jimmy Carter renouncing his Baptist Church in Plains, Ga - although Carter never went so far as to title his campaign-launch promotional book after one of his preacher's sermons. Perhaps it's closer to Howard Dean quitting the Episcopal Church in Burlington, Vt over its objection to a proposed bike path - although even that arcane theological dispute seems more principled than Obama's wholesale abandonment of Trinity, its congregation, and the man who married him and was entrusted with the spiritual education of his children.

Over at Powerline, Paul Mirengoff says: "Obama left Trinity Church for the same reason he joined it — political opportunism." Faith-wise, Obama would seem to be closer to Dean than Carter - an essentially secular figure whose genuflections to religion were driven more by political expediency. In Governor Dean's case, this involved flying down to Georgia in the last primary campaign to appear with President Carter at church in Plains. A little obvious but it was just for one desperate Sunday morning when the numbers were wobbling. Senator Obama has 20 years of Sunday mornings: in effect, he's asking the media to give him a pass on unloading virtually his entire adult life. He's demanding an industrial-strength version of Herblock's famous "one free shave" to Nixon - in this case, a full head-to-toe depilation.

Will the media give it to him and continue the fawning iconography? Or will Bob Herbert, Joe Klein, Garry Wills and the other bobbysoxers resent being made to look like saps over their this-is-the-greatest-speech-since-Gettysburg hooey and confront the fraudulent nature of the image they've promoted so assiduously?

Gee, that's a tough one...

re: #187 gettinby Huh, just came across this:

Economic cost drives Senate climate debate
WASHINGTON - The possible economic cost of confronting global warming - from higher electricity bills to more expensive gasoline - is driving the debate as climate change takes center stage in Congress.

The Senate will begin considering legislation Monday that would mandate a reduction in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from power plants, refineries, factories and transportation, cutting heat-trapping pollution by two-thirds by mid-century.

The debate opens as Americans are reeling over $4 gasoline and soaring expenses to heat and cool their homes. That's making it all that harder to sell the merits of a bill that would transform the nation's energy industries and - as its critics will argue - cause energy prices to increase even more.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., one of the chief sponsors of the bill, says computer studies suggest the overall impact on energy costs could be modest with several projections showing overall continued economic growth. The measure calls for tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks to offset higher energy bills, its sponsors say.

Returning from the Memorial Day recess, lawmakers also have to fix the international food aid and trade components of a farm bill that, through a printing error, were left out of the parchment version that President Bush signed into law last month. And the House and Senate are still working on a bill to fund the Iraq war another year, expand G.I. Bill college benefits and strengthen New Orleans levees.

While this week's Senate debate on global warming is viewed as a watershed in climate change politics, both sides of the issue acknowledge the likelihood of getting the bill passed is slim, at least this year.

One police officer arrested two American ministers in Birmingham, England for entering a "muslim area" and trying to preach there.
He is going to be ''re-educated" as to what a ''Hate Crime" really is.
[Link: www.telegraph.co.uk...]

At least the news media didn't extrapolate it into all police officers doing it......like they did when A soldier shot at A koran in Afghanistan.

They said when the officer realised they were American, although both have lived in Britain for many years, he launched a tirade against President Bush and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr Cunningham said: "I told him that this had nothing to do with the gospel we were preaching but he became very aggressive.

"He said we were in a Muslim area and were not allowed to spread our Christian message. He said we were committing a hate crime by telling the youths to leave Islam and said that he was going to take us to the police station."

Good morning!
Do you remember back in the day when Obama led Hillary in the popular vote, but she allegedly led him in superdelegates? His "message" then was that it was for "the people" to decide, not some fat cats in a cigar smoke filled room.
Well now that Hillary is leading Obama in popular vote but apparently trailing in superdelegates, you don't hear much about that "let the people" decide, do you?
And on top of that, apparently people in Michigan and Florida are missing half of their bodies, cause they're only gonna get half the delegates they should get.
Obama "grew up" politically in the Chicago Dem Machine - why on earth would anyone think he's changed now (especially cause he can't throw the Chicago Dem Machine under the bus, they own the bus................and him, too).

Zbigniew Brzezinki's military assistant during the Carter years, is dead.

Lt. Gen. William Odom, 75, had a heart attack.

"He was both a fighter and an intellectual" said Zbig. Odom became a Russian specialist, was posted to East Germany, and served as a military attache in Moscow, then worked with Zbig's "Research Institute on Communist Affairs" at Columbia University in NYC

Odom's son, a Lt. Col., was wounded in action in Iraq.

Odom opposed Pres. Bush's Iraq intervention, and wrote several anti-Iraq articles, most recently this Tuesday, co-written with Zbigniew Brzezinski himself.

Subject: BILL COSBY ON REV WRIGHT
Article from Wall Street Journal:

Rev. Wright epitomizes the thoughts and actions that have prevented and continue to prevent black America from moving ahead and achieving their potential as a people. He suggests that this United States of America made up of sons and daughters of immigrants (I’m talking of the millions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation immigrants in this country) of every race, creed, color and religion, each and everyone of them who had nothing to do with slavery, somehow owe something to a group of people who have never been slaves?

Its amazing. It seems everyone is to blame for the shambles black society is in with its violence, drugs, high school drop out rates, misogyny, and a host of other real and virulent problems, except for the very people who engage in such behavior.

Enough. As a society, culture or people, they should look within themselves and fix their problems. When did this man become the spokesman for the black church? And of course his church is different, but that doesn’t mean his message and philosophy is acceptable, or productive, or non-offensive, or not-racist or indicative of our greater cultural behaviors, values and norms as Americans.

And yes, the link between this man and Obama really does matter. At a very minimum, it provides insight into the political and philosophical strain that Obama adheres to.

Good morning Kenneth! I've seen that poster all over the 'net since Obama quit his church (*snort* *giggle*) yesterday! And I have to be honest with you, I still don't get it!

It only took 20 years sitting happily in Rev. Wright's pews plus a couple months of an election campaign scrutiny for Obama to realize his "religion" doesn't sit well with most Amercians. So he did the only honest thing, lied about his past, threw his friends under the bus, and said "Now let's move on". What a man of integrity!

At least now everything is clear for Obama to revert to his original faith, Islam.

Where are all the Catholics? Why aren't we hearing from Bill Donohue about Obama's gross Catholic bashing in his news conference yesterday?

May 2006: When Meeks ran as an Independent for governor of Illinois, he announced: “Come on with me, white churches. Call me and tell me to run for governor. You’ll have [Republican nominee], who believes in abortion and gay rights and [Democratic Gov.], who believes in abortion and gay rights. Theologically, politically, for the white conservative voter, I’m their guy. I have their philosophy. 7”

October 2006: Meeks’ church sponsored a “Halloween fright night” which “consigned to the flames of hell two mincing young men wearing body glitter who were supposed to be homosexuals.”8

February 2007: A newsletter by the SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER (SPLC) included Meeks in its “Top Ten leading black religious voices in the anti-gay movement.” According to their profile:9

“Last year, he ran for governor as a virtual single-issue candidate, drawing national support from Christian fundamentalists by boldly vowing to fight marriage equality at every turn.”

Despite his virulent anti-gay stance, in June 2002, Meeks invited accused sex offender R. Kelly to sing at his church’s kindergarten shortly after the singer was released on bond for child pornography.

Typically brave behavior from Barry:

Jan 2005: During the critical moments when the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill to prevent LGBT discrimination, Meeks actively campaigned against the measure - and then delivered his vote: Nay. Obama was apparently unable, unwilling or uninterested in lobbying Meeks to do otherwise – even to vote “present” on the measure. The bill would have failed had it received one less vote.

But Barry wouldn’t be comfortable in lots of Roman Catholic Churches because they are so intolerant toward homosexuals.

One more time:

In April 2004, Barack Obama told a reporter from the Chicago Sun-Times that he had three spiritual mentors or counselors: Jeremiah Wright, James Meeks, and Father Michael Pfleger-for a change of pace, a white Catholic preacher who has a close personal feeling for the man he calls (as does Obama) Minister Farrakhan.

There's an interesting new term from Obama's preacher Otis Moss Jr.
It is "koliba."
Apparently whitey is never supposed to learn what koliba is.

Part of an Otis Moss Jr sermon was a little “mythic tale of truth” about “misplaced trans-Atlantic Africans” . . .”the story of the people who could fly
. . .
”mislabeled slaves, ”who ask . . .”is it time preacher?” . . .
Here’s the curious answer:

In order for the Joshua generation to fly there must be a Moses word in them – if you want to take flight. . .That word is an ancient West African word: Koliba. . . We are called to bring this word: Koliba

What exactly is Koliba?
That’s something that Otis Moss Jr may know, but it surely isn’t intended for White ears.

“There’s another Koliba and his name is Jesus . . . “

Huh?
What could he have meant?

Then the entire congregation rhythmically chanted the word “Koliba,” as they held up their right arms with palms facing out in what looked the Sieg Heil salute. The congregation appeared to be enraptured. It was chilling. [Link: www.theafricanamericanpulpit.com...]
[Link: forthardknox.com...]

Anyone know anything about this term, "koliba?"

Once elected, Obama will go, as he has pleadged, and meet with the leaders of the Muslim world to apologize for America's sins. At that time he will publicly revert to Islam. The Muslims will adore him, the Europeans will applaud him and the Amercians will have to live with him. Everything has been pointing in that direction.

I think it depends on skin tone, location and blood clotting factors. I can scratch a mosquito bite and get a bruise almost immediately. Then again, I have no platelets. lol

btw - did you see that picture I posted for you upthread? It brought your son to my mind.

What Debutant said makes me wonder if blood-thinning meds can encourage easy bruising.

No, I didn't catch that photograph. I'm sorry.

Scott McClellan on Meet Da Press this AM. What an insect. He was press secretary, and he is now complaining that he was given a job to do in selling a position. It's above his pay level if that decision was yes or no, he's not expected to have any expertise above the average citizen, in whether the decision was yes or no, and he shows no signs of having any more expertise than the average citizen. The President was always going to come to him with a lie at some point, a little white one or a big rainbow whopper, it goes with the territory. Russert said none of this.

The nerve of Russert anyway, who stabbed Scooter Libby in the back with lies and half-truths on the Valeria Plame thing.

actually not really that painfull. Quick pressure applied to a small area by a grip will leave a grip bruise, where you can see the whole hand gripping the area. What I call fingertip bruises. Not bruises to the fingertips.

Mother who defied the killers is gunned down in Iraq

Five weeks ago Leila Hussein told The Observer the chilling story of how her husband had killed their 17-year-old daughter over her friendship with a British soldier in Basra. Now Leila, who had been in hiding, has been murdered - gunned down in cold blood. Afif Sarhan in Basra and Caroline Davies report on the final act of a brutal tragedy[.]
* Afif Sarhan and Caroline Davies
* The Observer,
* Sunday June 1 2008
Leila Hussein lived her last few weeks in terror. Moving constantly from safe house to safe house, she dared to stay no longer than four days at each. It was the price she was forced to pay after denouncing and divorcing her husband - the man she witnessed suffocate, stamp on, then stab their young daughter Rand in a brutal 'honour' killing for which he has shown no remorse.

Nuclear engineer? Well he was enrolled in a nuclear program, but there is zero evidence he finished the program or graduated with some sort of certification. We can take his word for it, if so inclined, but I'd rather not.

* * *
Jimmy Carter graduated from the Naval Academy as an engineer, back when all naval academy graduates were engineers, not English majors & political science people.

Carter graduated much higher in his class than McCain, who was near the bottom.

Carter was chosen by a genius Admiral to be part of some select nuclear sub thingy.

Carter still screwed our country big time by his cowardice & cowering & prayerful meditation about what to do in the face of evil, like Obama prayerfully trying to leave a putrid twenty year abomination, but not being able to do the right thing.

Carter was chosen by a genius Admiral to be part of some select nuclear sub thingy.

Admiral Hyman Rickover. Father of the nuclear sub program. Ardent supporter of nuclear power for both military and civilian uses. Warned of the danger of US dependence on fossil fuels as far back as 1957. Probably one of the most brilliant people who ever served in the US Military. He was a Polish Jew.

I've often wondered if Carter's animosity towards Israel is motivated by the fact that Rickover may have had him passed over for a promotion or some other award or advancement.

It could be the missing link. Rickover nominates Carter for the nuclear program. Carter attends program but no evidence that he ever finished the program or graduated.
Could be that Carter was f'ing up all over the place (looking at his history, not much of a leap) and Rickover yanked him out of the program faster than a fuel rod from an overheated reactor.

Bush Administration Negotiating With Terrorists

[Link: abcnews.go.com...]

Under the radar, the Bush Admin has continued to negotiate with the terrorist nation of Libya, a nation worthy of regime change if there ever was one. Not only did the Bush Admin fail to demand democracy when they gave up their (real, in fact) nuclear program, the Admin is now reached an agreement with Khadaffi to pay him money for the "victims" of our purely defensive actions in the 1980s. Another betrayal of America, its values, and of Reagan. Where is the outrage? We negotiate with the enemies that have real nuclear programs (Lybia, North Korea) but have destroyed a country that didn't have one.
