Zombie: Israel in the Gardens 2008

Tue, Jun 3, 2008 at 1:38:29 pm PDT

Zombie’s latest is a photo/video report on the annual “Israel in the Gardens” festival in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens, with the usual pro-Palestinian demonstrators and hand-wringing moonbats with giant puppet heads: Israel in the Gardens 2008.

Yep, here's the article:

Cardinal removes Pfleger from St. Sabina parish

BY KARA SPAK Staff Reporter
The firebrand pastor of St. Sabina parish was effectively removed from his duties there Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

In the statement, Cardinal Francis George says he asked the Rev. Michael Pfleger, 59, to "take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties." The statement said Pfleger "does not believe this to be the right step at this time." "While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Church's regulations for all Catholic priests," George said.

The recent statements in question were video clips broadcast on You Tube where Pfleger mocked Hillary Clinton for crying on the campaign trail. He suggested her tears were due to "white entitlement" leading Clinton to believe the Democratic nomination should go to her, not Barack Obama.

Pfleger has been a priest for 33 years, serving nearly all that time at St.

Sabina's in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.

Fr. William Vanecko, Pastor of St. Kilian's parish, will be temporary administrator of St. Sabina's, the statement said.

"I ask the members of St. Sabina's parish to cooperate with him and to keep him and Fr. Pfleger in their prayers," the statement reads. "They are in mine."

Hallelujah!

Also, from the Archdiocese website,

STATEMENT OF FRANCIS CARDINAL GEORGE, O.M.I.,
ARCHBISHOP OF CHICAGO
June 3, 2008

To put recent events in some perspective, I have asked Father Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabina’s Parish, to step back from his obligations there and take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties, effective today. Fr. Pfleger does not believe this to be the right step at this time. While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Church’s regulations for all Catholic priests. I hope that this period will also be a time away from the public spotlight and for rest and attention to family concerns.

I hope also that the life of St. Sabina’s parish may continue in uninterrupted fashion. Fr. William Vanecko, Pastor of St. Kilian’s parish, will be temporary administrator of St. Sabina’s and will assure the full complement of ministerial services during this period. I ask the members of St. Sabina’s parish to cooperate with him and to keep him and Fr. Pfleger in their prayers. They are in mine.

Yes, way too long. In fact, he has never been to any other parish. He started as an associate pastor there, and became pastor. He also stayed there too long as pastor, being as this was his fourth term. A term is 6 years, and a pastor is only supposed to stay 2 terms, 3 if there is a petition, but that's it. A fourth requires a sign-off by the Vatican. They did not get Vatican approval for Pfleger's fourth term.

Here's another one from CBS2:

Indications are that another Chicago priest would take over at St. Sabina, while plans for the permanent reassignment of Father Pfleger, who's been there far longer than is customary in the archdiocese, would be accelerated.

Pfleger has been pastor of the predominantly African-American St. Sabina parish, at 1210 W. 78th St., since 1981. He has gained notoriety for his political activism on behalf of gun control, racial and social equality, and intervention against youth violence.

Personally, I think he's a certifiable psychopath.

re: #100 Ward Cleaver

There's quite a cult of personality that surrounds Fr. Pfleger at that parish. If they move him permanently, the face and personalty of St. Sabina's will change dramatically.

I wonder how many of his parishioners actually live within the St. Sabina parish boundaries, and also, how many are actually Catholic?

Now that's a jolly good question. I have a funny suspicion that there's a fair number of non-Catholics there who have not gone through RCIA yet.

Cults of personality are nothing new around these parts. Daley's got one of the biggest ones.

Makes sense. Those are the people who inspired the classic joke:

Paul Larudee of ISM lives near me in El Cerrito, where he masquerades as a "piano tuner".

I've often thought of picketing his house with a sign saying "Did you know your neighbor is a terrorist-supporting Jew-hater?"

Careful. Someone who looks that unstable seems capable of snapping at any given moment.

re: #107 scott in east bay

That's odd. Commie Brit socialite and longtime East Bay resident Jessica Mitford's hubby, the late, disbarred lawyer Robert Treuhaft, also moonlighted as a piano tuner. Wonder if there's a connection?

(BTW, the Mitford sisters are a fascinating study in familial moonbattery. Of course, the two Nazis have been vilified by history, whereas the two Reds have been virtually posthumously sainted by the Anglo-American leftist literary establishment.)

Israel practices "apartheid"?
-How many Jewish "palestinian" "citizens" are there?
-Who insists that for peace, the other racial group had to be ethnically cleansed completely from their territory?

They are the whacked out Cindy Sheehan's of Israel who caused the pullout from Lebanon and all ways support any Pro-terrorist stance. Aiding and abetting the enemy Israels fifth column now in the USA

in short a woman in black = Moonbat central

The first group was formed by Israeli women in Jerusalem in 1988, following the outbreak of the first Intifada (Palestinian uprising)...wearing black clothing in mourning for all victims of whatever side and holding signs with the slogan "Down with the Occupation".

Thanks for doing all you do Zombie.
Can you imagine what would happen if anyone paraded around with their great big Rainbow flag in Gaza?

A: None, hippies screw in sleepingbags.

re: #103 zombie

You've done many fine eyewitness reports in the past, but this one is your very best. It has a flavor, a "tam", of its own.

The link to ISMAEL KHALDI (who, I must say, presents a rather unique, but reassuring, posturer for a diplomat )is well worth read.

Your eye for contrast, and irony is legend, and this particular photo-journal displays it to the fullest. I especially enjoyed the juxtaposition of the hate filled, rabid protesters, and the children dancing to Hava Nagila. Jews, enjoying moments of Joy, is precisely what enrages arab terrorists most!

Really great work! Kol haKavod, All Honor to You!

I want the Queers for Palestine to go to Gaza with ISm and hold hands or kiss in public. I wonder how pro Palestine they will be from jail or after the beatings- if they survive. I really feel that the Palis can't count on their support unless they go on over there and prove they mean it.

Hey check this out.

The scumbag at the HuffPo, Sam Sedaei, who argued "Whack"minijad was not saying he would wipe Israel off the map wrote another garbage laced anti-Israel "article". I wrote a response to it, and the response to me was so vitriolic and anti-Semitic...

...that is was named as a "HuffPO's Pick" by their editors.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Zombie! I saw one of my family members in a couple of pictures on your site... (three of us were there, all told)

And for those who were concerned about the boy in the picture - his dad and big brother were close by, along with several cops, and it was a completely peaceful protest - so you shouldn't worry. I heard that some teens later crossed the street to confront the real thugs... but the cops shooed them back.

I had fun telling the Jewish "(Men and) Women in Black" they were a "shanda" and an embarrassment. They were supposed to be silent, but one guy finally got irked and came up with a real snappy comeback: "YOU'RE an embarrassment!" Me? I was standing peacefully with my big American flag... My husband mostly told the women they'd look good in a burqa - or "How would you like being wife #3?"

Honestly, I had to restrain the urge to smack the smug, superior expressions off their faces. 60 years of expulsion? Of occupation? Their signs didn't even make sense. I started chanting "End Hamas' occupation of Palestine" whenever I saw one of the "occupation" signs. And when the thugs chanted "Free, free Palestine," my husband shot back with "Whine, whine, Palestine". Heh.

Zombie:

Yet again, my heartfelt appreciation for your ongoing coverage of Bay Area moonbattery; bravo/brava!

(I lived in S.F. from '78-'85; when folks ask me what it was like, my usual response is it's a criminal waste of a beautiful city and I sure don't miss playing "bum hopscotch" on my way to work in the Financial District.)

Forget Gaza - I'd settle for them to stand and kiss each other in front of any mosque in the USA wearing their non political peace scarves.

A number of us (myself included) were loudly addressing the BAWiB as communist Jew haters as they smugly paraded in front of the us.

This is the same group that has called the cops on us numerous times for simple standing on the same strip of sidewalk as they or for facing them from a different direction at the Saturday counter-protests.

It's worth noting that a majority of them are also Jews, albeit, self-hating ones.

I'd also like to take time to give a big middle finger to the SFPD. Jerks.

138 aunursa  Tue, Jun 3, 2008 7:34:50pm

I was there for most of the event. Lots of singing, children's activities, good food, and plenty of information about Israel. My family thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Inside the festival you could not see or hear the protesters. They were a non-factor. Plus there are several entrances to Yerba Buena Gardens, so many festival participants never even noticed that there was a protest.

139 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Tue, Jun 3, 2008 7:55:35pm
