 RetweetHaditha Marine Acquitted

Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 8:27:47 pm PDT

The most ludicrous politically-motivated prosecution of US soldiers in the nation’s history continues to collapse, as 1st Lt. Andrew Grayson is acquitted in the Haditha case: Marine acquitted in Haditha killing cover-up case.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A military jury acquitted a Marine intelligence officer Wednesday of charges that he tried to help cover up the killings of 24 Iraqis.

Cheers erupted as the seven-officer panel cleared 1st Lt. Andrew Grayson, who was the first of three Marines to be tried in the biggest U.S. criminal case involving Iraqi deaths linked to the war. The verdict came just five hours after deliberations began.

The judge, Maj. Brian E. Kasprzyk, admonished the noisy courtroom, saying: “There will be no more of that.”

Grayson, who has always maintained he did nothing wrong, was not at the scene of the killings of men, women and children on Nov. 19, 2005, in Haditha. He was accused of telling a sergeant to delete photographs of the dead from a digital camera and laptop computer.

Outside the courtroom, a visibly emotional Grayson said the verdict was an end to a terrible ordeal.

“It’s finally time for me to get to be with my family,” he said, fighting back tears.

Sadly, the Left will continue to try to sap our military's strength by making it investigate and prosecute our service members rather than allow those service members to prosecute the fight against our enemies.

whoa!

Grayson, of Springboro, Ohio, was acquitted of two counts of making false official statements, two counts of trying to fraudulently separate from service and one count of attempt to deceive by making false statements. He would have faced as many as 20 years in prison if convicted of all counts.

Grayson said he refused a deal early in the case that would have reduced charges and kept him out of jail.
"I was the one that had to look at myself in the mirror," he said. "To take the easy way out, you are the one that has to live with that."

Says a lot about this young man.

It must be horrible to be a liberal or media journalist, to suddenly understand these guys are not being judged by a liberal jury packed with oppressed minorities. No these guys are being judged by their peers, and the jury understands the case. Tough shit to Murtha and his media cronies! Same goes to the Al Quadda supporters that brought this case to trial.

Four enlisted Marines initially were charged with murder and four officers were charged with failing to investigate the deaths. Charges were dropped against five of the Marines.

Still to face court-martial are Wuterich, of Meriden, Conn., whose charges include voluntary manslaughter, and Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, of Rangely, Colo., who has been charged with dereliction of duty and violation of a lawful order on allegations he mishandled the aftermath of the killings.

Grayson and Wuterich pleaded not guilty. Chessani has said he didn't order a formal investigation because he believed the deaths resulted from lawful combat. He has not entered a plea because in the military system that is not usually done until motions hearings are completed and a court-martial is about to start.

Now, once the other two are acquitted, I want to see that son-of-a-bitch John Murtha, Fucknut from Pennsylvania, PUBLICALLY apologize to ALL of the Marines that had their lives and military careers completely fucked-up, courtesy, in no small part, to his irresponsible, slanderous, and just plain WRONG remarks concerning these brave men.

Shame on you, Rep Murtha. You are a disgrace to the Marines and to your seat in the Congress of the United States; a disgrace to God and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and a vile, evil sack of shit as a human being.

re: #1 savage_nation

God is good

Amen.

I recently read the book Warlord. About another Marine in the first go around in Falujah who was accused of murder by a real lazy sack o' shiite in his own outfit.

After this Lt got pulled from the front, his guys started dying without him there.

He was later acquitted, but it ruined his military carrier. And took what by all accounts was a suburb leader and warrior away from the front, to satisfy the PC JAG Corps and Jerks like Murtha.

This Marine had been an enlisted Marine in Gulf Part I, and just happened to be in Downtown Manhattan headed to a meeting at or near the World Trade Center on 9/11. By the end of the day he's got his hair cut, and took off to join back up. Went to Officer school and started leading men.

And because he had to relieve a Sargent who was a real slacker from his leadership position before the man got his squad killed. The guy would take his squad into enemy territory and just let them sit down in the middle of a open town square and let them take gear off and smoke or whatever without even bothering to recon the immediate area.

So the LT took over that squad personally and made the defective Sargent the radioman to keep an eye on him. He really was that bad.

Anyway they caught some Jihadi's at a checkpoint and started finding things wrong with their car, they made a move and the LT smoked them.

Sad sack Sgt Shiite bag screamed Murder, just to get revenge. That and the radio was too heavy.

So without a proper warrior LT with his head screwed on straight, good people started dying, and the LT and his family went broke trying fight the fight of his life back State Side.

We the people need to do something to drive this Liberal Socialist Politically Correct Lawyer mentality the hell out of our Armed Forces.

At the beginning of this war Officers were so jacked up, that they were actually consulting Legal council before dropping bombs on target.

I could just tear my hair out!

As for John Fucking Murtha* I don't know if he can be sued (successfully) or not. I do know the voters in his Pa district ONLY keep re-electing him cause he's good on bringing home the pork. But maybe, someday, they'll discover that he's far more of a liability to their district than a benefit (one can hope, anyway). Moreover, I don't think his assuming the role of Judge, Jury and Prosecutor in this matter is going to go over big with the voters anywhere.

* I actually did send him an e-mail after most of the Marines had the charges dismissed against them and referred to him as an "Ex-Marine" (Marines who are no longer in the active reserve always refer to themselves as "Former Marines") and said he didn't deserve to be called anything other than an Ex-Marine.

6 of 8 acquitted Murtha!

When will you be apologizing? Turd.

Murtha's an ex-Marine, not a former-Marine.

104 6pat6  Wed, Jun 4, 2008 9:11:12pm

Murtha is a bag of shit who used to wear the proud uniform of the US Marine Corps. Hard to believe that fucknut made Lt Col! He makes my blood boil. Hopefully, the good people of PA will show that SOB the door and NOT re-elect him this year! If they DO re-elect him, then they deserve what they voted for.

105 gunjam  Wed, Jun 4, 2008 9:16:45pm

Who will pay a price for this? Bush? Rumsfeld? Gates? The USMC Commandant? The Naval Investigators? The Marine prosecutors? This court martial did not get started by "evolution" -- it had creators. As far as i am concerned, they are empty suits all to send men into harm's way and then PROSECUTE THEM CRIMINALLY for defending themselves! Blaming Murtha is a cop-out: Murtha was nowhere in the chain of authority that has allowed this prosecution to go on and on and on.

106 LEGION  Wed, Jun 4, 2008 9:17:37pm

Lee Harvey Oswald also wore the uniform- some nuts slip through everywhere- Murtha is another. Anyhow- hurray for this verdict!

Bullshit! Murtha's public comments ARE relevant and WERE damaging to these Marines! He used his position in an extremely irresponsible manner and needs to be held accountable. Words DO mean things.

re: #40 Inquisitive

Grayson, of Springboro, Ohio, was acquitted of two counts of making false official statements, two counts of trying to fraudulently separate from service and one count of attempt to deceive by making false statements. He would have faced as many as 20 years in prison if convicted of all counts.

Grayson said he refused a deal early in the case that would have reduced charges and kept him out of jail.
"I was the one that had to look at myself in the mirror," he said. "To take the easy way out, you are the one that has to live with that."

Says a lot about this young man.

I live not far from Springboro, and hopefully I'll get a chance to shake his hand. I could not imagine living with the torment of being convicted in the press and by congressional asshats, being called a murderer and worse on the news networks, and STILL being able to not take the easy way out with that deal. I am more than impressed by his courage and character. Semper Fi indeed!

111 Malleus Dei  Wed, Jun 4, 2008 9:33:27pm

This is good news. All of these false charges are going away, one by one.

Hopefully, when the last one is cleared, Murtha will be honest enough to apologize to the men he wronged.

Yeah, right.

Look: I am no admirer of Murtha and I do not like the comments he made.

Nevertheless, no member of the House of Representatives has the authority to conduct a Court Martial.

Last time I checked, President Bush is still Commander-in-Chief.

Like Harry S Truman said: "The buck stops here."

Yet, people keep kicking the dog (Murtha).

The President could have stopped this investigation and prosecution at any time with ONE PHONE CALL.

You are correct, and I heard that Rumsfield may be behind this, but that
does not forgive fatboy for the political and public opinion damage he caused.

116 nadadhimmi  Wed, Jun 4, 2008 9:44:56pm

This is just another treasonous action by the people that brought us other false allegations against the US military to give aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war. Remember No Gun Run, in Korea?, Winter Soldier in Vietnam? now we have Haditha in Iraq. Murtha is a treasonous fuck indemnified against all wrongdoing by the equally treasonous msm. Look for liberal judges to throw out any charges against Murtha.

As much as I admire the President, I think he was right in letting this go un-interfered with. The moment he made such a phone call, he would use up too much political capital. The raving loons such as Murtha have been calling for his impeachment for years. Such a phone call would only add to the already-nearly-deafening uproar.

Quite frankly, POTUS has more important things on his plate. As sad as it may be, the reality is that the legal fate of a few low-level Marines is irrelevant to the mission that the President has, which is to ensure the security of ALL of America. He only has so much time, bandwidth, and political power.

It would be nice if he were perfect, but he is just a guy. I think he's a pretty good President, to be honest. Perhaps he is not Rushmore quality, but he's done a pretty good job in my estimation.

You think Bush is a pretty good President!

Where have you been when he was:

Help the Palestinians rather than Israel;

Leaving the border a sieve for illegals, terrorists and goodness knows what;

Backing amnesty for illegals and is all for giving them unearned financial benefits;

Has let the Taliban set up sanctuaries in Pakistan and the terrorists in Iraq receive help from Iran and Syria;

Plus doing nothing to stop Iran from going nuclear.

These are just a few things that he has done that have harmed this country.

And to Mr. Murtha, I hope you sleep well tonight, asshole... knowing that our finest are putting their asses on the line to protect scum like you.

That you ever wore the uniform of the United States Marines is one of the great imponderables. How you could have ever served and turned into such a scum bag is simply beyond me.

I was right here when he ordered the liberation of the Afghan and Iraqi people. I was right here when he led the Congress into cutting taxes and giving us the lowest unemployment rate in memory. I was right here when he led this country back from the catastrophe's of 9/11. And I was right here when ANOTHER 9/11 did not happen. I was right here when he showed his humanity when he comforted family after family of our fallen heroes.

I could probably list another 100 or so of where he and I differ on policy issues. But compared to Jimmy Carter, or Bill Clinton, his own daddy, fellow Texan Lyndon Baines Johnson, Richard M Nixon, Gerald Ford, or even JFK--he outclasses and outshines them all. The only Rushmore-deserving President of the last half century or so is Reagan, and mostly because he was responsible for ending much of the Cold War.

Reagan made mistakes too: whoppers; some of them. But AFAIC, he deserves a spot on Rushmore. Only time will tell (decades perhaps) whether GWB deserves his place up there as well. But liberating 50 million people is not a bad way to start.

I wonder if he would even notice that slight. There are so many old decrepit geriatrics in Washington with failing minds. Murtha is one, but Dingell and Conyers from MI are just as bad or worse. But the Dems will keep re-electing them until thy reach room temperature (and beyond if they could.) Watch an interview with any of them and its so obvious. The stupid part is how reporters go easy on them because they have failing minds.

i am so glad andrew grayson was found not guilty of these charges.
how disgusting murtha was, to use these men to get attention for himself.
he demeaned these soldiers w/ vulgar statements that they were victims and aggressors, and guilty of murder before they were even charged.
murtha is the criminal.

134 daverx  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 6:33:02am

Can anyone fill us in on how much brig time these Marines had to spend, and whether any who are still charged are still in the brig?

I believe I have read that many of these men were incarcerated for extended periods of time. If so, I wonder when there is going to be a housecleaning at the top of the USMC to get rid of the brass that "briefed" Murtha, and called for jail time for people who clearly posed no threat of flight by virtue of their own code of honor.

It's about time the USMC got rid of the politicized Clinton general officer appointees who have been stinking up the joint, and that probably applies double for the other services!

135 MES41067  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 6:44:01am

Very good news and its time for these politicians that used the Marines for political points pay up.How dare you send our men and women to fight and die for us and slander them before they get there day in court. These men were sent there by you they are owed the respect of a fair trail before you get to talk shit about them for your own gain. This isn't some msn whore fest like OJ or any of the other ones that come to mind WAR is hell and is not pretty.

Tremendously good news here. Now, where do they go to get their REPUTATIONS back?

Sadly, they can't. Even though they were cleared of charges, the case is going to hang over them for good.

As for the remarks about Murtha not being in the Chain of Command: He still made a press release accusing the Marines of murder and claimed that he got the information from the Commandant's Office. If this had happened in the civilian world, murder charges would have been thrown out and Rep. Murtha would have been up on charges.

Basically, he should have kept his mouth shut and waited for events to unfold.

Charles: I am sure this has probably been pointed out to you but what the heck. Soldiers are not marines and Marines are not soldiers, and never the twain shall meet.
Soldiers are members of the Army, just like sailors are members of Navy, and airmen are members of the Air Force. And well Marines are just Marines.
Oh what motivated this tsk tsk reprimand? This

The most ludicrous politically-motivated prosecution of US soldiers in the nation’s history continues to collapse, as 1st Lt. Andrew Grayson is acquitted in the Haditha case: Marine acquitted in Haditha killing cover-up case.

When in doubt it is probably best to use the generic service members.

143 robosoldier  Thu, Jun 5, 2008 9:22:04am
