Oh Good! An open thread!

I gotta wonder what the Red Sox lineup will look like tonight? Coco's looking at a suspension for his role in the other day's bench-clearer- but he can play while it's under appeal- Ellsbury's likely to miss some time with a sprained wrist after that diving catch he made last night, Papi and Dice-K are still on the DL, Manny and Youk are getting into a shoving match...and most of this is just from last night's game! Carter made quite an impression, but that was mostly lost in last night's fireworks

I gotta think that the Sox would call up Moss and Kielty from AAA Pawtucket. I'm not sure how ready Buchholz is to come up from the Paw Sox....

/loppyd? remembertonyc? You hear anything to the contrary?

STARIN' OUT THE WINDOW:

Does anyone think that Europe's recent ostensible "unification" combined with the many decades of America's military presence there has contributed to diminishing a sense of prideful nationalism in the individual countries there?

Could that be part of the reason that why Europeans & British folks are having fewer kids? Not thinking they have anything to live for, fight for, or die for?

Not trying to be contentious, just takin' a risk...thinkin/wondering out loud.

There's another puff piece on him about how he'll be President in 2016 when the Olympics come to Chicago. I think he's forgetting that by then, Obama's sensitivity to Islamic grievance will probably cause him to cancel the Olympics.

re: #26 maddogg

Elect Barry and it will be Friday every day!

We should have a "satarize an Obama supporter contest"
I'll go first:
Obama vs Jesus
Some people mockingly refer to Obama as a Obamessiah, deriding our devotion to him. But it got me thinking, even if you grant the Xianists literalism, who really comes out ahead, Obama or Jesus?

Jesus was the son of God, supposedly. Comes out ahead, right? Not so fast. Obama was the son of a black man. God has never known the persecution inherant in all white Systems like Obama's Dad has. Thus, Jesus could never unify us like Obama has the potential to. Really, God has no more privileges than a white in our society anyway. Plus, Jesus mother was a virgin, while we know Obama was not raised by someone so socially backwards. First point goes to Obama.
Jesus turned water into wine. Well, actually that's pretty cool. Obama hasn't done that yet, score one for Jesus.
Jesus calmed storms and walked on water. Obama will end teh ravages of global warming though, and calm the hurricanes all across the globe that are Bush's legacy. Surely the whole globe out ranks one sea? Another point for Obama
Jesus healed the sick, included blind, lame, and some gross guys. But when Obama oversees federal health care, he will heal over 40 million people dying with out health care! Another point to Obama.
Jesus cast out demons. When Obama takes office, he can remove Bush appointees and prevent another conservative judge on the supreme court. Removing neocons from the government is far more important than saving some kid. Again, Obama.
Jesus multiplyed bread and fish to feed a crowd. But Obama will feed the millions who go to bed hungry each night, not just some villagers one meal, by giving jobs to the poor. And dignity and stuff! Fifth point for Obama.
Jesus preaced a message of love. Obama teaches us of hope. Probably a tie here. We'll go ahead and give it to Jesus since he's behind.
Jesus raised a dead guy. Obama will take the exploitative profits of corporations to fund the stem cell research and reverse the republican war on medicine, possibly bringing millions of people back to life. Even ending death!
Jesus hung around with thieves and tax collectors... uh, lets skip this one.
Jesus came back to life 3 days after dying. Well, Obama hasn't died yet, so it's really too soon to decide this one either way!
So final score is Jesus 2, Obama 6. Now who says it's silly to call Obama the messiah?!

/

We in Ireland can't figure out why people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States.

We in Ireland can't figure out why people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States.

On one side, you have a woman who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer, running against a lawyer who is married to a woman who is a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a war hero married to a good looking woman who owns a beer distributorship.

So, I upgraded my RAM, after my computer became increasingly slow to respond. I have a 2.8 Ghz chip and upgraded from 256 MB to 2 GB (went from the min to the max) RAM, and the fucker is still acting slow at times, particularly when viewing a video. As an example, the youtube D-Day "report" that Charles has a couple/three threads down -- after rebooting and only loading the LGF front page, I clicked on it. Plays fine for about 3 (of 7+) minutes, after which the picture got choppy (like viewing somebody moving in a strobe light). Note that the download status indicates the the video is fully downloaded, so it's not hanging up during the download.

When I play other vids that are playing fine, all I have to do is move the mouse and the video image briefly pauses.

His huge campaign contribution from the banking industry just before the bankruptcy bill a few years back, his love of massive pork, and some very stupid statements (standard democrat anti-war crap) even after his nephew gave his life in Iraq.

Gregoire on White House listsGov. Chris Gregoire is on the list of contenders to be the United States' first female president, a roster receiving new attention Wednesday in the aftermath of Sen. Hillary Clinton's defeat in the Democratic nomination race.

Women hold eight governorships and 86 seats in Congress, according to the Center for American Women and Politics.

Women in those positions often mentioned as potential future presidents include Govs. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas and Sarah Palin of Alaska, and Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas and Claire McCaskill of Missouri.

Gregoire, Washington's second female governor, was mentioned Wednesday as a prospect in The Times of London, following similar citations in the Chicago Tribune and Web sites such as Slate and Monsters and Critics.

The Democrat isn't looking to leave the governor's mansion, said her campaign spokesman, Aaron Toso. Gregoire is in the midst of a re-election campaign against her 2004 rival, Republican Dino Rossi.

Chris the P, almost sounds like a video card problem. Video takes a lot out of a CPU, and a dedicated video card will take most of the load off the CPU. A video card with at least 256 meg memory will help you alot, about 120 dollars about six months ago. There are other things that could be frapping you up also. Make sure you have the latest video driver for your video, also you might want to get into task manager, processes and see if another process or service is eating your CPU capacity. Good luck!

Strangely enough I was having a problem with my cable modem losing it's connection randomly, especially while I was on LGF. I move it two feet away and it hasn't lost the connection in two hours.

Wish you could have such a simple answer. But, I think you may want to look at active processes. A good way to do this is download Hijackthis and post your log that it generates on one of the sites that handles that kind of help. (search hijackthis in a search engine and you'll find a lot of forums.) It sounds like you have one or two processes that are draining your memory.

Regarding Obama's plan to raise the corporate tax rate.

The corporate income tax has always been the darling of the socialist left. For this group, whose true goal is to transfer increasing amounts of revenue from private to government control, it may be the perfect tax. It gives these self-proclaimed champions of the downtrodden a way to tax the very constituency they claim to represent, while leading that constituency to believe the tax is being imposed on its "oppressors." Indeed, corporate taxes are the most dishonest taxes used by any level of government.

Sometimes, its like giving your 'pute a High Colonic, and all of the upgrade hardware is still there. You might just have a real hot rod there hidden under a layer of cyber-crud.

Yep, ACORN had a piece of that. ACORN is in Obama's pocket.

She's a friggin' disaster.

Please Obama take her off our hands!

Dino Rossi is running against her again this year.

Mr. Rossi had better have his pettifoggers briefed and on high alert for this one. Wish him well. I understand she's about as bad as the disaster in Kansas. Maybe B. Hussain will take them both for something or another.

Sounds like your video card is ok. I agree with what others have said... next look for cpu eating processes that windows runs for you [always at inconvenient times] in the background.

Whenever my system bogs down, its the same process... "svchost - system" is grabbing 50% to 75% of the cpu. I haven't figured out what that process does yet, but sometimes I shut it down. Most of those times my pc keeps running -- and running faster -- but sometimes the thing crashes instead. *shrug* Whaddaya gonna do?

Check your taskmanager next time things get bonky, and see if something is chewing up your cpu.

The problem there is that svchost is the function of hundred of different operations. you can have a whole bunch running in one svchost or several. Spybots love to go into svchost.

Hijackthis actually breaks down what's inside svchost and other operations.

If your hard drive is really full, that will slow things down a bunch. If so, transfer the not-so-often-used monster sized files to CD and delete them from the drive.

Otherwise, I'd try going to Windows Update and letting it run through. Sometimes an update will clear that problem up.

Could also be that your WMP database is thrashed. Look for:

C:Documents and Settings[whatever your username is]Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMedia Player

and delete LocalMLS files and current database. They take a while to rebuild (next time you bring up the Media Player), but can work wonders.

I don't remember, but a few dead people "voted". Most of the bad stuff happened during the recounts when they would magically "find" bags of ballots.

2000 more ballots counted that voters that voted in King. Co.

Election board divining the intent of voters who screwed up their ballots. One write in ballot for Christine Rossi (candidates Christine Gregoire and Dino Rossi) counted for Gregoire.

Ballots found 9 times during recounts, usually when Rossi posted a lead. This ballots where not secured, just found.

A strange pattern of ballot disqualification, predominately (R) precincts had more DQ ballots than (D) precincts.

2000 + voters registered across the street at a mail box service. State law requires a primary residence be used for registration.

Ballots marked "fatal pend" meaning they count be verified as valid were counted.

Gregoire won by 129 votes on the 3rd recount.

In 2000 Senator Slade Gordon lost by less than 2000 votes in King Co. to Maria Cantwell. Going back and looking at that race a similar pattern appears.

I consider this election a test run for the national 2008 election.

the worst comment from b.o. for me (and the most telling thing abt. him) is the chilling: 'punished w/ a child' statement.

it occurred to me that he is very disconnected from any true sense of what it is to be a father.
he showed absolutely no concern for those who would be his grandchildren.
how could he be so cold and devoid of feelings. it doesn't seem like he's really engaged in life and in touch w/ regular human emotions .
it concerns me that he could very easily make some bad decisions and just not look back.
people w/ out substance and a good heart are dangerous. they have no conscience.

Have you guys heard about this? It fascinates me!

200,000,000,000 Barrels of oil in North Dakota?

I've heard it could be as much as 500,000,000,000 Barrels (for comparison, Saudi Arabia is estimated to have 250,000,000,000 Barrels)

Awesome, if it really is true. Just don't let the meanie greenies stop drilling!

I don't belive that stuff at all. Well, possibly the part about 3 times as much oil as in the Rocky Mountains --considering how little there probably is in the Rocky Mountains.

The US passed the 50 percentile mark about 1970, for oil production within the lower 48. That's when OPEC thought they smelled blood.

We're waaay past that 50 percentile mark now.

I fear what the leftists' ideas of nationalizing the US oil industry would really mean. I fear it would mean selling off or trading away the industry's assets --which nowadays is not so much crude oil as it is drilling and refinery technology, equipment, manpower and expertise, and information about oil exploration results worldwide.

My worst fears are that an Obama admin would be eager to do such deals with Iran, Syria, Libya, N.Korea, etc, in return for letting them build nuclear reactors for us within our own borders, since we seem to have forgotten how.

I'm not so sure, all over Wyoming they've tapped some dry holes, and they ain't dry anymore. Plus with our new tech we're able to get more out than ever before. But, it used to be accepted fact that once a hole goes dry that's it. It's not working that way anymore. That's why I'm starting to read a little more on the alternate theories of where oil comes from.

I apologize if this site has been mentioned here before, but you can create your own (subversive) Barak Obama logo at Logobama.com and, if it's not too over-the-top obvious that it's an attempt to "troll", it'll end up in the Logobama Flickr photostream.

My putting the Hammer and Sickle in the middle of the "O" logo didn't make the Flickr cut, but, weirdly, my writing "Obama for America" in Russian in yellow Cryllic letters on a red background did.
