Well, what the hell difference does it make if he knows what is right, if he doesn't do what is right?

Weird anti-Semitic rant of the day

Hugo Chavez already has paranoia, stealing food from the starving, plundering his country's economy, and using terrorism to destabilize a neighbor on his dictatorial resume. However, no mad tyrant's career can be considered complete without a bizarre  anti-Semitic screed.

In its May 15, 2008 edition, Moscow News published an interview in
which Ambassador Navarro Rojas said that among those involved in a
failed coup d’etat of April 11, 2002, aimed at overthrowing Hugo
Chávez, there were "many Mossad snipers, who were Venezuelan citizens
but Jews."

Protocols of the Elders of Caracas?

Dear heavens you do! I don't think I've ever seen such a thing.

BTW, I read somewhere a couple of days ago that studies show that those who are strict observers of the islamic prayer schedule manage just 27 productive minutes per day. All of the rest is taken up going to , coming from, preparing for or praying. No wonder their countries are all third world holes.

re: #56 MandyManners

Here is Saint Patrick's morning prayer for you:

Saint Patrick’s Breastplate:

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through the belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension,
Through the strength of his descent for the judgment of Doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In predictions of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

Richard N. Weltz

Once again, Barack Obama has demonstrated serious gaps in actual knowledge of the subjects on which he so charmingly pontificates.

The Democratic candidate, who prior to the past years or so, seems never to have had a problem with friends who didn't like Israel, stood up before a meeting of the America-Israel Public Action Committee (AIPAC) yesterday in Washington, DC, and spoke every pro-Israel platitude he judged that the crowd wanted to hear.

The only thing that gives me some confidence is this. Good morning lizards, 64 degress and foggy here along the Lake Michigan shoreline... I'm listening to the wail of the foghorn as I enjoy my first cup of coffee. If the fog burns off before 10, I'll probably take the dog down to the lighthouse for a walk.

We've had a lot of rain here over the last couple of days and everything feels damp. It's a bad time for my basement dehumidifier to be pooping out, so first order of business this morning (after the DDT) is to open it up and try to fix it. I know nothing about small appliance repair, but it never hurts to open it up and take a peek in case its' something obvious.

Had a call from my Marine last night... it was very good to hear his voice. He's going to be home for a visit on the 22nd, and will probably stay through to July 7th.

I see that the US is finally sticking it to the UN.... good on us. If only we could find the balls to go all the way, and pull out completely.

Just one nugget from the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, "Instruction on Certain Aspects of the ‘Theology of Liberation':

"...it would be illusory and dangerous to ignore the intimate bond which radically unites them (liberation theologies), and to accept elements of the marxist analysis without recognizing its connections with the (Marxist) ideology, or to enter into the practice of the class-struggle and of its marxist interpretation while failing to see the kind of totalitarian society to which this process slowly leads."

I like McCain's idea of starting a league of Democracies. It will be interesting to see who ponies up the cash for the UN when the US pulls out. Let's see, Saudi Arabia, China or Russia? My bet is the Suads will come up with the cash, China and Russia are to damn cheap......If they don't the UN will fall apart....

Big pull quote from the article:

Obama was raised by his mother, the agnostic anthropologist, to regard religion as "an expression of human culture...not its wellspring, just one of the many ways -- and not necessarily the best way -- that man attempted to control the unknowable and understand the deeper truths about our lives." (Audacity of Hope; p. 204)

However, when Barack Obama met Jeremiah Wright in the mid-eighties, between his years at Columbia and Harvard Law, he found a "faith" perfectly accommodating to his already well-formed worldview.

From The Audacity of Hope:

"In the history of these (African people's) struggles, I was able to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death; rather, it was an active, palpable agent in the world." (p. 207)

As Obama explains further, it was Wright's (and presumably Cone's, as required of new members at Trinity) peculiar form of Christianity that Obama found palatable:

"It was because of these newfound understandings (at Trinity under Wright) -- that religious commitment did not require me to suspend critical thinking, disengage from the battle for economic and social justice...that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity...and be baptized."

Wright's vision of Christianity was perfectly appetizing to Barack Obama; he didn't need to change a thing.

Well, that's just sad. It's not the Barack Obama that I know... ;)

Another good pull quote, this one from Part 2:

After 20 years, Obama has resigned his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ. He did so after Rev. Michael Pfleger's rants against Hillary Clinton's white privilege made such a splash on the internet and television news.

But Obama's attempts to distance himself now from Trinity, Wright, Pfleger, Farrakhan and Cone mean nothing to me. He can, in my mind, no more disown them now, than he could months ago.

The Black Liberation Theology of TUCC that he chose as an adult is the only religious foundation, save the Islam he learned as a young child in an Indonesian school, that Barack Obama has ever had in his life.

Discovering Black Liberation Theology in Wright's church was the one thing that enabled Obama to see that those believing in a far left political ideology could also have religion. Obama's mother had taught him this wasn't the case.

Wright showed him another way, a Third Way.

They already are...see Real Clear Politics and this story from yesterday: I'm Not Totally Sure We Can - Kurt Andersen, New York Magazine...here is a quote.

8. The evil in men’s hearts. Every time I watch him work the crowds, I cringe a little, dreading the lurching nut and pop-pop. Any assassination is horrific; the murder of Obama could be a national trauma beyond reckoning. Similarly, beyond my own preference, I think an Obama loss in November would be particularly disheartening for the country. It would amount to a national statement concerning our racial divide: Nah, we can’t.

Uh, yeah, he is talking about the assassination of Senator Obama. Notice what he says about Obama losing. See? It has already started.

Goddess, it seems to me that Senator Obama is the 21st century version of a waffle Rorschach...you see whatever you want and ascribe to him whatever qualities/positions/ideals you wish.

How else do we describe the support he gets from disparate groups...(i.e. environmentalists v. union people, students v. older people)?

I may be wrong but, I don't ses the rank-and-file union folks panting for him. I think the top was bought off.

It's gonna' be a rough two weeks. The Kid disappeared last evening while I was finishing up some chores after we got back from dinner. I hollered out the back and out the front. I hopped in the car and tore off down the road. I turned around with an awful feeling, and went back past the house to find him in the neighbor's pool, in the three-foot end, with our Yorkie.

I was beyond livid. I knew I couldn't spank him 'cause it would've been in anger. So, he's grounded from his PSP, his cable and the park for two weeks. (I'm letting him keep his PS2 and PS3 'cause he needs some electronic stuff.)

y'know that makes me wanna weep. In this monstrosity of a society we've created, a boy can't even be a boy, and we wonder where all the John Waynes have gone! I can remember leaving after breakfast with my dog in hot pursuit, running all over the neighborhood (fences were rare then) playing all day, us taking turns eating a sandwhich for lunch at whomever's home we happened to be playing at at noon, barely taking time to go to the bathroom, then about dark a parent yelling out the door or sending a sibling to tell us to come eat. What have we become?

Mark Steyn had me laughing out loud this morning with this column.
Obama, Political Viagra Perhaps Comedy as a form of entertainment is in such a lull these days because the best comedic minds have moved to covering politics?

The short version of the Democratic-party primary campaign is that the media fell in love with Barack Obama but the Democratic electorate declined to. “I felt this thrill going up my leg,” said MSNBC’s Chris Matthews after one of the senator’s speeches. “I mean, I don’t have that too often.” Au contraire, Chris and the rest of the gang seem to be getting the old tingle up the thigh hairs on a nightly basis. If Obama is political Viagra, the media are at that stage in the ad where the announcer warns that, if leg tingles persist for over six months, see your doctor.

I understand your point completely, and agree that the severity of the punishment should fit the severity of the crime. But in this case - with so many kids overweight and unhealthy from lack of excercise because they're sitting in front of a TV or computer or video game console all day - I think denying those things but allowing supervised swimming this summer is the way to go in this case.

re: #241 Mich-again

Granny, there are at least a thousand ways for kids to get hurt doing something that seemed safe and if you think you can shield them from injury by carefully choosing their activities for them thats just nuts. Better get rid of the bicycle, never play sports, never swim in a pool or lake and just stay indoors all day.

I don't think that at all and I do not in general choose children's activities. Trespassing on the neighbor's property and swimming in the neighbor's pool when you do not yet know how to swim well without the knowledge of either your parent or the neighbor in question is not the usual "activity." It is in fact a crime that some neighbors would prosecute and so irresponsible as to have held a real danger of severe accident or even death. (Mandy's son is only 7.) Right up there with taking the car for a joy ride.

Agreed. ANy punishment that takes a kid away from physical activity and leaves them sitting at home instead is not in the best interests of the kid. Discipline for a child that young is more about teaching, not so much punishment. And any punishment that extends more than a week past the offense is counterproductive.

Who ever said leave the kid sit at home? Make the kid watch everyone else swim, just like when they misbehave in a restaurant they get to sit in the car while everyone else eats. Taking away half of the video game systems just isn't quite the same.

Make the kid watch everyone else swim,

The problem with that is every time someone sees him sitting there they will say "Why aren't you swimming with everyone else?" and then mom will retell the story over and over about what a dumb thing he did. And when a kid hears a million times how dumb he was he will start to believe it. I think not letting a kid swim all summer because of that is a very bad idea for a punishment.

Iranian forces shell Sulaimaniya border areas

Border villages in the area of Bashdar, Sulaimaniya province, came under heavy Iranian artillery shelling on Friday morning but no information on casualties is available yet, the spokesman for the Iraqi Kurdistan region's guard forces said.
"The villages of Kokaz and Khandoura, both lie at the foot of Mountain Bashdar, (160 km) northeastern Sulaimaniya, came under heavy Iranian artillery shelling, which is still going on," Jabbar Yawir told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).
"No information is yet available on possible casualties resulting from the shelling," Yawir said, not giving more details.

Iraqi PM leaves to Tehran

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki left Baghdad on Saturday heading for the Iranian capital Tehran where he is expected to meet Iranian top officials.

“Maliki left Baghdad today topping a large security and military delegation for Tehran to meet the Iranian officials on consolidating the bilateral relations between the two countries,” a media source from Maliki’s office told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

If Maliki returns from Tehran with his tail-between-his-legs we oughta be pretty damned pissed off.

Pt. 1, Pt. 2

Some interesting info from your link:

...I have visited perhaps 100 various Christian bookstores, both Protestant and Catholic. In all of those places, one thing tied together the books for sale: Christianity.

Not so in Obama's church bookstore.

I spent more than an hour perusing available books, and found as many claiming to represent Muslim thought as those representing Christian thought. Black Muslim thought, to be specific.

And the books claiming to support Christianity were surprisingly of a more political than religious nature. The books by James H. Cone, Wright's own mentor, were prominent and numerous.

Now that I have read a number of the books that presumably Wright's congregants (including Barack Obama) have also read, I can only conclude that the thing tying these volumes together is not Christianity, nor any real religion, but the political philosophy of Karl Marx.

Obama is steeped in this shit.

Which is precisely why Cone and his disciples are able to boldly proclaim that if the Jesus of traditional Christianity is not united with them in the Marxist class struggle, then he is a "white Jesus," and they must "kill him." (Cone; A Black Theology of Liberation; p. 111)

And Cone brings it all the way home with this proclamation of liberation from traditional Christianity itself:

"The appearance of black theology means that the black community is now ready to do something about he white Jesus, so that he cannot get in the way of our revolution."

Move over Jesus and make way for Cone, Wright and Obama.

The LBJ quote is interesting.

Apparently, per Justice Clarence Thomas, George Bush I told him the exact opposite, saying *KNOWING* the right thing to do was usually easy, but having the fortitude to actually DO it was the difficult thing.

The difference is in having, or not having, a properly functioning moral compass.

re: #334 MandyManners

Heart-stopping terror and its resultant adrenalyne rush are mighty powerful.

Heh. Actually, I was thinking of the disabilities of the child don't matter when the problem is big enough. Disabilities raise their own issues, for example:

Our kitchen is pretty big, and my son can wheel himself around without any problems around the kitchen table. However, there's a step down to the basement door, and we've shown him repeatedly that he has to be careful if he gets in that area. Most of the time he doesn't.

Well, he wanted to talk to Dad, and Dad was in the basement. So he wheeled over to the door and the first time he got it open without rolling too far. The second time this happened, though, he went too far and got his wheelchair stuck, with his front wheels down on the step. The result? My husband couldn't open the basement door. He had to take the door of the hinges to get out!

So it looks like we'll be installing a gate of some kind to prevent hiim from doing that again.

A friend of mine lost his index finger on his talbe saw. He didn't touch a power tool for 3 years after that. These things are not to be fooled with. I use mine for ripping big lumber, and do all the small cuts by hand. For a small project, good hand saw works just as fast as a power saw, and without all the time setting up fences and blades. Heck, I'm doing this for fun anyway!

I'm posting the allegation below, though to be clear I do NOT believe the story to be true and I think it IS an attempt to falsely slime Obama:

[Link: larrysinclair0926.wordpress.com...]

Larry Sinclair alleges that on 6th and 7th November 1999 in Chicago, Illinois he met Barack Obama for a social evening which included drinks in a lounge, followed by a drive around town in his hired limousine during which Obama supplied cocaine, smoked crack through his own glass pipe while accepting fellatio from Sinclair.

The next day Obama took the initiative to visit Sinclair’s Comfort Inn hotel room in Gurney, Illinois for a “quickie” version of the previous night’s activities. Both men were 38 years of age. Larry Sinclair was on parole visiting for a few days from Colorado. Barack Obama was a member of the Illinois Senate.

This story has been around for months. Whatever the polygraph results (and they don't look good for Sinclair), ultimately you have the word of a man convicted of fraud vs a seated US Senator, so I think this story will NEVER have traction, unless someone else comes forward with similar allegations.

.

me too. i'm trying to get the last of the warm weather seedlings in. how are you doing w/ the bk flies? are they gone yet. what an insidious pest.

Knock on wood we have not had any here in my part of Vermont. They were so bad down at my sister's on the Mass border a couple of weeks back while Dad was up from Florida that I came home looking like I had been eaten alive.

How come there are never any deep thoughts from Dhimmi Carter to start an open thread?

re: #423 jcm NO - if anyone shoud be outraged it's everyone who thinks jurors ought to at least pass a basic fucking intelligence test.
Where the hell did that juror think ALL criminals get their guns? Go to Walmart and buy fully auto Tech 9's and such?

You're not suggesting that they might *gasp* try to create future events by slanting their news, are you?

Why of course not. Nor will I suggest that Jason Blair is not the only reporter to have made events up out of whole cloth for the "newspaper of record." :)

One juror on camera said, "If anyone should be outrage, they should be outraged at how he got a gun."

Dang. I'm out of Kool-Aid™. After drinking lots of Kool-Aid™, this statement might make sense.

I know hundreds of people who own guns and have never shot anyone.

this killer will be retried and convicted. the facts are conclusive. he will never be found not guilty. eventually a jury will do it's job.
it's just a shame, tho. it will waste more time and money.

The interesting thing here is not Ms. Love's commentary. The interesting part are the comments to her commentary.

[Link: chicagoboyz.net...]

I think Obama has to make sure that the United States suffers an unambiguous military defeat in Iraq, “the full 1975″ with our embassy on fire, and helicopters off the roof, cheering mobs burning the US flag, and our allies being massacred in the streets.

It is an article of faith that Iraq is a disaster and it is Bush’s fault, and that American meddling in foreign places is imperialism and evil. The only conceivable outcome, morally and practically, that his supporters will tolerate is a pullout. I have no reason to think he won’t give it to them. The ensuing massacres, destruction of people who trusted us, etc. is what is expected and desired by Obama’s supporters. Like Cambodia, it will be blamed on our intervention, we “drove them mad” by our invasion.

Lots of people on the isolationist/paleocon/Libertarian Right want this to happen, too, so that the USA never does anything like this again.

With such a broad constituency for defeat, the well-being of the Iraqis is a non-issue. We are not a sentimental people, when it comes to the tradeoff between American lives and foreign lives. The Democrats are going to win the next election and the Iraqis are truly screwed. As Zenpundit recently reminded us, being America’s “friend” usually means you are going to be tossed under the bus sooner rather than later.

The jingo patriot in me wants to rail against this line of thought.

I am restrained from doing so by the past.

Well, I will build myself a snowman whle I pondrr the implications of my acre sized footbrint.

Good move. Redemption is just as easy as buying carbon off sets from Al Gore's company.
that's what he does. He buys them from himself.
I also have a lot of angst about driving, eating, & cooling since it upsets Obama. Wouldn't you love to know how the Obama family lives?

It is kind of like suggesting that because people have been known to kill others with an automobile that no one should be allowed to own an automobile. After all, self restraint cannot be expected of anyone.
