Congressman Keith Ellison: 'America is an Imperial Power'

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 12:51:51 pm PDT

At the far-left National Conference for Media Reform, Islamic congressman Keith Ellison talks about how Ronald Reagan made him sick—but not as sick as George W. Bush makes him. (Applause.)

He calls America an “imperial power.” Then he suggests that the country should get rid of “hate radio” and Fox News.

This speech is incredibly over the top. Is Ellison feeling emboldened these days by the success of Barack Obama?

Note that the people at this conference are so whacked out, they believe the media are slanted right.

(Hat tip: Bill Amos.)

We're an imperial power how? If you draw an analogy to Rome, it doesn't hold up. If you draw an analogy to the 19th Century powers, it really doesn't hold up. If you refer back to the Persians, the Chinese, various Indian dynasties, it doesn't hold up.

But of course, you need at least to be conversant with the outlines of history to understand that.

And to note that an American politician is suggesting restricting speech is flat-out terrifying.

We're an imperial power how?

I just got around to listening to Hugh Hewitt's Memorial Day broadcast where he had a 3 hour interview of Victor Davis Hanson and a discussion of military history. It's clear Ellison and his ilk have no clue.

To call the US an imperial power is particularly specious. Of all of the major and dominant military powers in the history of the world, the one that is the least imperialist and arrogant in the use of it's power is the US. We don't even ask for land from those who we sacrifice our treasure to free from tyranny to bury our dead anymore.

"Is Ellison feeling emboldened these days by the success of Barack Obama?"

For an American, yes. Foreigners like the newly-elected UN General Assembly President, Miguel D'Escoto Brockmann (who, you'll be happy to know, endorsed Barack Obama for president), have always felt more at home slamming Reagan/the US:

In a 2004 interview, D’Escoto called Ronald Reagan, who was US president in the 1980s, an “international outlaw” and “the butcher of my people.” “Because of Reagan and his spiritual heir George W. Bush, the world today is far less safe and secure than it has ever been,” he was quoted as saying.

That's 2004, not 1994 or 1984...

Ellison is the *real* Obama. Next January 20th, it is now certain that one of these two men will be taking the oath of office as the 44th President of the United States: John McCain or Barack Obama. I urge anyone who has any doubts about McCain to consider what an unparalleled disaster an Obama presidency would be for our country. Even Carter's would pale in comparison, and believe me it's not because I have an ounce of regard for that creepy, nauseating antisemitic little prick.

if the Catholic church isn't in total reform mode it should be and start doing some housecleaning. Didn't they make the congesspriest, Drinan, from Massachusetts quit? And the "priest" Pflegler, speaking at Trinity ( I know he's got a time out for now). I mean if you have a heirarchy and rules and regulations, use 'em. The liberation theologists/marxists had their day and nearly destroyed the church's witness in the world. The lesson should have been learned by now.

Well, I think the only way to protect ourselves and win is to become more politically active. It's amazingly easy to join your party's county committee. I just walked in one night when they were meeting and found out there was no one in my precinct. I became a precinct captain by default.

One advantage of joining is learning more about the people in your area. It's good for advancing your own political agenda as well as other like minded people. Anyone who refuses to join the political sphere is already surrendering.

If you can get even 6 people to go with you and raise their hands behind you, you can win.

How many have been completed. Communism never lost, it just came in the other door.

963 Communist Goals
The following was entered into the Congressional record by Albert Herlong, Jr. (a Floridian who served in Congress from 1949-69) in 1963.

1) US acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war
2) US willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war
3) Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the US would be a demonstration of "moral strength"
4) Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
5) Extension of long term loans to Russia and Soviet Satellites
6) Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination
7) Grant recognition of Red China, and admission of Red China to the UN.
8) Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the Germany question by free elections under supervision of the UN
9) Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the US has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress
10) Allow all Soviet Satellites individual representation in the UN
11) Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the UN as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo)
12) Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party
13) Do away with loyalty oaths
14) Continue giving Russia access to the US Patent Office
15) Capture one or both of the political parties in the US
16) Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions, by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17) Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for Socialism, and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers associations. Put the party line in text books.
18) Gain control of all student newspapers
19) Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20) Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
21) Gain control of key positions in radio, TV & motion pictures.
22) Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings", substitute shapeless, awkward, and meaningless forms.
23) Control art critics and directors of art museums. " Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art".
24) Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25) Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography, and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV.
26) Present Homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as "normal, natural, and healthy".
27) Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch"
28) Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state"
29) Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30) Discredit the American founding fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man".
31) Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of "the big picture:" Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

111 DoubleU  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 1:24:32pm

32) Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture - - education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33) Eliminate all laws or procedures, which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34) Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35) Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI
36) Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37) Infiltrate and gain control of big business
38) Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.
39) Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40) Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41) Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42) Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special interest groups should rise up and make a "united force" to solve economic, political, or social problems.
43) Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44) Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45) Repeal the Connally Reservation so the US can not prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.

This speech is incredibly over the top. Is Ellison feeling emboldened these days by the success of Barack Obama?

No. He's emboldened by the fact that he's preaching to the choir. Views tend to get more extreme and less polarized when you're in a room full of people that agree with you. I'm not sure Barack Obama would have anything to do with it anyways. It would be a mistake for Obama to align himself with another anti-American after the last fiasco at the church. He'd only have to throw him under the bus, and I don't think either Ellison or Obama wants that.

No- it's not true and it's not the sad part. But what IS sad and true is the sever lack of knowledge about islam and what keith ellison prays to every day. I would place a large amount of money betting on the vast majority of his voters having NO idea about islam whatsoever.

So to say his views mirror the views of the people of Minneapolis is just grossly offensive.

He received the majority of the vote, Sharmuta. That's scary if you have that many misinformed voters. Anytime someone is elected, right or wrong, it mirrors the majority of the voting constituents. Ted drives off a bridge, kills someone and gets re-elected...that's the fault of the voting base...his constituents.

It's not your fault their misinformed Sharmuta...let them sit in their own dirty diaper.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Al Franken has won a resounding endorsement for U.S. Senate from Democratic activists at the Minnesota state convention.

The former "Saturday Night Live" writer and performer beat college professor Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer on the first ballot Saturday. Franken had just given a speech to delegates apologizing for past jokes that offended some fellow Democrats.

First of all- his district IS all of Minneapolis and then some.

Second- he's a democrat, and in the 5th CD- that's all he needs. In order to unseat him, the MN democrats would have to nominate another democrat. Now that he's in- that's unlikely to happen, as the MN dems would not want to lose any ranking keith has picked up even in one term.

Oh. I didn't know M'polis only had one district. Well, if they go for him in the primary soon, I guess he'll be there for life.
This is a typical situation, unfotunately. Yellow-dog Democrat districts.
And this is why it is so disconcerting to see the Democrat elite give these clowns and their ideology a pass.
Judging from their presidential nominee, it's pretty obvious that the elite believes there are no enemies to the left........or in the mosque. Sigh.

I think the problem with the Catholic Church, seen by Cardinal George's unbelievable lack of cojones in defrocking Pfleger, is that they are struggling for priests. I say this as a happy and enthusiastic Catholic, who however isn't blind about her co-religionists. Offal like Brockmann/Pfleger has no place in our church.

From the perspective of a non-Catholic...agreed. Weak management. Still, it's all about $$. Priests are the "sales team" for the church. As long as their parishoners are sending in the long green that outweighs his negative message....they'll keep him in there. Contrast this to the corporate world, it's better to have sales slots unfilled than filling them with poorly trained or unqualified people going forth and mis-representing or poorly representing your organization. Even maverick superstar closers are closely monitored. If their hustle:hassle ratio gets out of whack the organization cuts 'em loose and they're kicking stones. Apparently for now, the $$ he's bringing in still outweighs the headaches he's creating for the church as a whole.

Oh really? Any thinking person knows better. The United States has invaded many countries in it's 250+ year history. It's quite a long list really. France, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Austria, Philippians, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Kuwait, Iraq, I could go on and on. Hell, during WW2, we had more troops in England than the British did.

Now, how many countries have we "kept" for own? How many of those countries are not now self-ruled? There's only one I can think of, The Confederate States of America.

This is one talking point of the extreme left that really pisses me off, it's pure horse hockey, to put it politely. The only things we've ever asked of a country we invaded is to hold elections and for a government so we can GO HOME. And, on rare occasion, a plot of land to bury our dead.

Carter was articulate in that he was a 'folksy Southerner"; someone who spoke what he thought (so it seemed) and was a change from the Watergate era, Nixon, and then Ford's relatively ineffective Presidency (look up the "WIN" button)...Carter was seen as a "refreshing change" from the "stony, yet bumbling" Ford.

Like I said, shades of 1976.

My 2 cents in light of the current political field and rhetoric.

I am sick of the Republican thinking he has to be the 'nice' guy. I want someone with bloody emotion. I want someone to not just spout substance but to be able to hit back and hit hard. I want someone to rage. I want someone who has the guts to inspire and act with conviction. I want someone to have the guts to cross the PC line and make the 'questionable' remarks that are truth. I want someone who realizes that unity will not exist between the parties and toe a line and call out the other side and come out swinging.

'Why are you being so divisive'.
(I'm not. All you have to do is just see things my way.)

I just see empty suits with even emptier rhetoric.

re: #262 spidly

do a bunch of uninhabited pacific isles and atolls really an empire make?

Ellison is speaking in the Marxist lexicon.

My comment on that subject back in October of 2004:

In the marxist lexicon civilization consists of states that treat human beings as hominid livestock and which run up bodycounts in the millions. At last count the death toll due to the various attempts to practice what Marx preached runs from 100 million to 170 million and is still rising to places such as Cuba, China, and North Korea.

In the marxist lexicon arrogance consists of the moral certainty that each person has the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and Property, and such rights must be defended by deadly force either by the individual or collectively through the institution of government.

In the marxist lexicon unwarranted bloodshed consists of the act of shooting back at and ultimately hunting down and killing those willfully inhuman creatures who, in accordance to the ravings of false prophets such as Mohammed and Marx, seek to forcibly enslave and murder human beings.

In the marxist lexicon idiocy consists of looking at the world through one's own eyes, thinking for one's self, and refusing to believe the immense load of ideological excrement left by Marx, Engels, and their intellectual heirs. (Yes, I know, calling them intellectuals is a contradiction)

In effect in the marxist lexicon reality is unreal.

In short Charlie Brooker and his fellow marxoids are an example of the kind of people that George Orwell spent his last dying breath to warn us about.

Marxists in general have apparently mastered the practice of doublethink, the treatment of concepts as opposite of their true meaning.

The doublethinker worships despots such as Fidel Castro and the father-son team of the Kims as liberators and saviors while the United States and it's allies, the true liberators of Afganistan and Iraq, are treated as conquerors and murderers.

The doublethinker treats literally bloody handed murderers like Saddam Hussein and his virually demonic sons Uday and Qusay as innocent victims while willfully ignoring the mass graves of hundreds of thousands of helpless men, women, and children found in Iraq.

The doublethinker treats the society of contract and consent, for which Marx invented the perjoritive term CAPITALISM, as a slave system while SOCIALISM, which in practice requires compulsion, slave labor, and the outright murder of those who resist, is called true liberation.

The doublethinker treats the acts of robbery and murder as just while the act of self defense is punished as the foulest of crimes.

Ultimately the doublethinker treats the United States of America, the greatest and most morally advanced nation on Earth, as vilest of evils, fit only for destruction.

As an individual the doublethinker is merely insane, as a political activist the doublethinker is a mortal hazard to individual persons and to Mankind in General.

I honestly don't know what the returns are other than monetary. You'd have to see the "real" set of books from the Chicago Diocese to see what it's worth to them. Like I said, I'm a non-Catholic and I have no trouble making the distinction between a "bad" priest/congregation and a "bad" religion. The MSM on the other hand, seem unable to do the same with any other Judeo-Christian faith. Witness biased characterizations of Mormons, Catholic priests, the FLDS folks, and continually portraying the Palestinians as victims in the Israeli-Palestinian equation. (Anti-Semitic)

Right now, hating America is big business.

America is an imperial power.

Promoting and fighting for an Empire of Liberty.

And an Empire of freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom of belief, freedom of movement, and even the freedom of utter assclowns like Ellison or Obama to spout their anti-American delusional drivel about this last, best hope for humanity.

Nothing wrong with Empires, as long as they aim to liberate people to express and accomplish their greatest ambitions and dreams.

Balkanized hordes of uncoordinated little countries, all eternally wrestling over minutae, is hardly a desirable alternative.

Otherwise why not let every organ of the body go its own way, instead of being under the imperialism of the mind?

Its strange, but people on LGF have personalities to me. They've become bigger than their text. Even though I'll never meet posters, I have images and ideas of them. In short, LGF posters have become real people, not mere nics -- with quirky personalities, health issues, kids, spouses, problems, successes, occupations, geography, etc.

So it grieves me to see someone banned, though I know Charles is judicious and fairminded in this decision. A quasi-death. (i'll miss your words, Savage, even though I've never even sparred with you online or met you in any way.)

I'm not sure why I come here. It is comforting to know that my political vision is shared by someone ... anyone. I travel constantly so the posters here are a form of social continuity. And, I like the wide range of personalities and backgrounds and, of course, the unvarnished opinions.

I don't think it has anything to do with money.
Who says the parish makes money for the diocese anyway? A lot of parishes in "under-priveleged" neighborhoods get more from the diocese than the other way around.

I'm guessing it's all about fear of the press and PC wimpiness.

Yeah - just so cute that the requirement to be a "resident" of Missouri is fulfilled even if your residence is your grave. If you're a democrat, that is!

It's hard not to take it personally when it's my friends ad family getting belittled. Perhaps it would be best to rip on his voters instead of an entire state, or all the people living in his district. I don't rip on every Californian for nancy pelosi. There are a good number of Minnesota Lizards here, and this thread makes me sad for them. I know they're all trying to combat MN moonbatism, just as all Lizards are trying to combat the moonbats in their states.

Fair enough. Your frustration is not unique. Charles is doing a huge service to provide a single forum for so many like minded anti-idiotarians to coalesce. So, after coalescing, exchanging ideas, and agreeing....what's next? I kind of view this and sites like FreeRepublic like doorway sites to kind of show people what the problems are.

I don't know of any that have a "plan" to organize nationally, and get involved. I know a few lizards like Ciao, and Zombie, and a few others have of their own gumption gone out and done some "recon missions" and their after action reports are usually pretty on spot and my hat's off to each and every one of them for doing so!

Just thinking on screen...This pajama clad blogger phenomenon is new to all of us. Shouldn't there be a next step? Somewhere, somehow? I just think that after identifying a problem, a plan needs to be constructed and implemented to deal with that problem. I'm just not sure yet what the next best course to pursue might be?

It's back to that figurative pick a frequency thing, refine the signal to noise ratio and broadcast.

The only thing I've come up with is...alert your elected representatives about creeping Islamification but many seem unwilling to acknowledge its existence, you know Religioin of Peace and all.

I don't know, maybe my brain CPU's overheated today. Rant off.

You have established a track record of patience and consideration before banning people and do not do so without a valid reason. You are right to protect yourself and the blog.

When the lines that are drawn are crossed then action has to take place. There is nothing unfair about that.

Thanks for letting us know that you had to take this action and why.

re: #322 wolfie

I don't think it has anything to do with money.
Who says the parish makes money for the diocese anyway? A lot of parishes in "under-priveleged" neighborhoods get more from the diocese than the other way around.

I'm guessing it's all about fear of the press and PC wimpiness.
If Pfleger had a poor white parish and preached anything that could remotely be considered anti-black, he'd would have been canned in 20 seconds. Just my guess.

I was thinking this too initially. But each day he goes to work, opens his mouth, and the cameras zoom in...he further tarnishes the Catholic church and the media eats if up. It makes no sense to keep him on, out of fear of a bad media image. Cut him loose. Yes there will be a media controversy, (forget, there is one already) but every interview from that point forward will be prefaced with Defrocked Catholic Priest...Think of it as an inoculation. There will be a slight pinch at first, but the long-term benefits to the Catholic church outweigh the upfront sting.

IMHO.

I like cheap gas as much as the next guy. Makes a good rally cry....but, could be a tough sell to: the anti-corporate types, (big oil's rippin' us off and all) the hard-core granolas, and big city living folks, (although those that heat with oil would be an easy buy-in.) With a little education for most of these folks that simply demonstrates that higher energy costs increases exponentially, costs of everything else derived from it, and goods derived from those goods...uniting under a "cheap gas banner" could work.

Commuters, and suburban types that actually drive to work each day, and have kids that do stuff, are on board already. Independent truckers would be a group to lock down early, AND once done they do a great job of spreading a message.

Tough part will be getting out the message to all the other "Bricks and Mrs. Bricks" out there. Don't count on cooperation from the MSM other than paid spots. The media will do its best though to ignore it as it runs counter to their conventional wisdom that Global Warming is the next "thing." Also, look for them to spin this as bad for the environment, bad for the country, bad for the chilluns, etc. On a rough look though...I think "Cheap Gas" stands a shot.

Whatever the final banner is...the message has to go BIG everywhere and fast, which unfortunately equals...cubic dollars if done traditionally. If it goes guerrilla style (viral), however directly to people's Email and the blogs they read...it becomes affordable then, which is directly offset by inability to measure the effectiveness as you can't really measure a message's national "water cooler impact" or a message's E-mail FWD factor as easily as you can count the eyeballs tuned in via A.C.Neilsen ratings.

Just sayin'.

That would then be the defrocked or former Catholic priest.

No doubt, you've been right to this point, but surely someone in the Catholic upper food chain has to see that continued inaction guarantees continued harm, but decisive action guarantees an eventual end to the harm and they'll be able to claim the high ground on the issue. I.E. Good Catholics do not condone such things, and if you do you're not a good Catholic. The only reason I can fathom why it's tolerated...is $$.

Also, if push comes to shove...the Catholic church is under no free speech obligation, whatsoever. I don't have a dog in this fight. I just don't understand "leaders" using fear as a justification for inaction when action is called for. Nothing wrong with being scared, but leaders spiritual or otherwise, have to push through that to get done what needs to get done.

One other thing to remember is that the media (TV, radio, and newspapers) in Minnesota have totally sold out to the Dark Side. With the exception of a couple of radio stations. The msm up here is pure bull shite 24/7.

My sister went on a trip to Washington D.C. with our synagogue to lobby congress on pressing issues. She and a number of her schoolmates met with our representative Keith Ellison. I'm not sure this has as much to do with Israel and Jews then it does his twisted view of "American imperialism." Minneapolis and St. Paul are not "conservative bases." Between Minneapolis and St. Paul and the surrounding metro area you're talking about 2 million people. I'd say a majority of them are liberal.
