Iowahawk to Redouble Campaign Efforts, Maybe

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 2:47:43 pm PDT

We shouldn’t forget that there is still a third candidate in this presidential race: iowahawk: And Then There Were Three.

“Hey stupid,” I am often asked, “what happened to your presidential campaign?”

For your information Mr. / Ms.Smarty Pants, instead of bombarding you with attack ads and TV spin doctors and donation pleas, I’ve been quietly doing the precise thing a Presidential candidate should do — working on the issues that matter to snide ingrates like you. Yes, while you were mesmerized by the hubbub and fooferaw of the so-called “major party” nominating races, I was with my hand-picked ‘trailer cabinet’ of key policy advisors, putting together our 400-point specific Change Contract For Hopeful American Greatness Renewal. Some of the highlights:

I get the distinct impression his mention of 57 states was a Freudian slip and he had the 57 states of Islam in mind when he said what he did..

It was during the week that the 57 met for the OIC conference and was in the news then. I think you may be right. Too weird a number for just an ordinary gaffe.

From the linked article (thank you very much!)...

In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

Delightfully uncalculated? Give me a break! And, what about Alabama voters? Of course! What was I thinking? They're all a bunch of gun-toting, Confederate flag-waving, NASCAR fans who think a minaret is a fancy tree-stand!

But listen, a lot of kids raised abroad have identity problems. (I'm not talking about military brats who live on bases. I mean kids raised in another culture/language.)
I have a pretty good idea where Obama is coming from in that regard.

People say he can't possibly not know there are 50 states, for example. Well, of course if he were taking a test he'd know that. But right off the cuff? Maybe not.
I'm still liable to say "the 48 states" myself.....if I'm a litttle tipsy, anyway....and I've lived in the US for 35 years.
That's what I grew up hearing from my American father!

Obama "resolved" his identity problem by latching on to black identity politics.

Funnily enough, I'm the opposite. The product of two different nationals, after having grown up all over the place, I chose America as my identity anchor.

The point is, the choice was available to him as it was to me, and he rejected it.

I think so. (then he started talking about shooting himself) I am worried.

Almost sounds like a lance_kates-type breakdown.

Wait a minute, lets think about it.
Obama spends 35 years as a Muslim or whatever he claims.
It is then that he discovers Jesus Christ through Reverend Wright a former member of the NOI, and committed anti American racist.
Obama went to Harvard. Could he really believe that this African Liberation Theology Church is what Jesus planned?

If any of them existed in real life, the 'daughter' was his step-daughter.

Yeah, I do kinda recall that. He does sound like a guy in a lot of pain.

That warms the cockles of my heart! That is my notion of the ideal, at least.

In my case, adjustment was more difficult, despite the fact that my father was born & bred in the USA.
Fortunately, my dad was a patriot and not a self-loathing anti-white, anti-American Marxist like Obama's mother.

I think poor Barry was most unfortunate in that regard, but you are so right about the fact that it was still his choice.

I don't believe Obama is a Muslim or a Christian really. As far as a traditional religious or moral center goes, there's no there there. Empty suit.
It's all about liberation ideology, identity politics, anti-capitalism, anti-white-male-oppression...........the whole leftwing schtick. That's his religion.

Canada an 'enemy'? Not to me....and I wish we had a President like PM Harper.

You're lucky. My dad leans left politically and not being American, was sometimes harsh towards her aims (not overly so, but enough).

The important point is that rebellion towards what your parents believe in, especially for an American, is often more common than accepting it. Obama chose his parents' hippie/intellectual denunciation of his own country. He never wavered in the conviction that America has done a lot of wrong. The times and his mixed background didn't help, but still.

Thanks, Nana. I like Prime Minister Harper a lot, too.

Unlike Obama, Mr. Harper is a man of principle. When he says he supports Israel, for example, his "people" don't call up the media the next day to back-pedal and deny that's what he meant. He means what he says and says what he means.

Josephine,

I liked him when I read about his policies, etc., and seeing him take his kids to school? That was delightful. And I admire him even more, now that he has been in office long enough to really get the measure of the man...and this speech for Israel's 60th birthday? He is a hero to me.

Hussein? He is scaring me, and Shrill still does. I do not trust her as far as I can throw her.

McCain is the man.

Oooooh. I looooooooove his plans for cougar reserves in Berkeley, Boulder, and Madison!

As a Denver-area lizard, I can think of a few bars in the Boulder area that would definitely qualify as "cougar reserves"...

Environment

I will direct the Interior Department to establish wild man-eating cougar preserves in Berkeley CA, Boulder CO, Madison WI, and Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Boulder sits in a huge natural dish. I think Lake Boulder should be established by filling the entire city with water.
