Bolton: Obama the Naive

Sat, Jun 7, 2008 at 7:04:37 pm PDT

John Bolton takes Barack Obama to reality school: Obama the naive.

It’s in the Los Angeles Times, and I’m reluctant to link to them because of their overweening leftist bias, but this is a good op-ed. Follow the link from this Google News search page to get around their registration wall: ’Obama the naive’ - Google News.

It is an article of faith for Obama, and many others on the left in the U.S. and abroad, that it is the United States that is mostly responsible for the world’s ills. In 1984, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Jeane Kirkpatrick labeled people with these views the “San Francisco Democrats,” after the city where Walter Mondale was nominated for president.

Most famously, Kirkpatrick forever seared the San Francisco Democrats by saying that “they always blame America first” for the world’s problems. In so doing, she turned the name of the pre-World War II isolationist America First movement into a stigma the Democratic Party has never shaken.

This is yet another piece of history that Obama has ignored or never learned. There may be one more piece of history worthy of attention: In 1984, Mondale went down to one of the worst electoral defeats in American political history. We will now see whether Obama follows that path as well.

2 itellu3times  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 7:06:07pm

Yeah I read that the other day, and I probably agree with it all, but Bolton would be a lot more effective if he turned it down from eleven now and then.

John Bolton rocks. I sure hope he gets a position in the McCain administration.

Remember, Bolton dealt with these people for years. If he's set on 11, it's for a very good reason.

I suspect there are many others like myself, who will not vote for Obama.

Roaring Defeat, we will see, IMHO.

Plus I don't like more or less being called a "typical white person", especially as all should be respected for who they are, and none of us the same as any other.

If McCain has a lick of sense, he will appoint Bolton as the SOS. Of course the Dems will have a fit and deny the appointment. It is a nice dream though!

It's on 11 because those who need to hear this are almost deaf.

13 Palandine  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 7:11:11pm

*sigh*

I'm now enthusiastically voting for McCain despite previous misgivings, but I'm concerned Obama's going to win.

I'm a Department of Defense civilian. He won't be able to gut the DoD his first year, but I fear downsizing that second year, being forced to move to another town, away from my elderly relatives.

I was still a liberal during the first Clinton administration and didn't believe that "I loathe the military" line attributed, probably correctly, to him. But I do fear that the son of a Communist lecturer, raised on 20 years of BLT, may in fact loathe the military and the DoD. We'll see, and hope we never have to find out.

15 Silhouette  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 7:13:21pm

If America is responsible for all the ills, stopping her will bring world peace. So Obama will pull us out of Iraq, disarm our military, and capitulate time and again in all his meetings with Iran, Hamas, etc.

And then he and our countries enemies will declare that there IS peace at the same time the wars worsen and thousands upon thousands are killed or enslaved.

20 John1979  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 7:14:59pm

Hey, that's two sane op-eds from the L.A. Times this weekend. They also ran TV critic emeritus Howard Rosenberg's lambasting of Keith Olbermann and "Countdown", so maybe in the wake of Hillary's departure from the primary race, there is a brief moment of clarity.

As for Bolton, he's one of those names that triggers Pavlovian reactions of derangement on the left, in the Bush/Cheney/Rove/Lieberman mode, so while he's stating the obvious about Obama's Carteresque naivety, his supporters will tune out the message and stop reading the moment they see Bolton's name.

21 itellu3times  Sat, Jun 7, 2008 7:15:09pm

The way to peace and love isn't through hippie methods. So you're still for peace and love.

No one is more against war than those of us eager to fight this one. But we know the only way to end trouble is to defeat those that make trouble, not reward them.

BDS sufferers will vote for Obama, assuming that they are not stoned on election day.

Bolton is too much of a conservative for McCain to appoint to any significant position. McCain will also no doubt have a Dem-controlled House and Senate to stall any and all appointments, as a reward for his many years of "reaching across the aisle".

Obama's following is entirely cultic and reveals a sad commentary on the masses who refuse to be governed by wisdom and critical thinking. For too many in America his youth, charisma, and oratory skills are good enough to make him President...

Another bit of History BHO must've missed

Obama's VP Search Mistake

On his first day as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama made his first clear, serious mistake: He named Eric Holder as one of three people charged with vice-presidential vetting.

As deputy attorney general, Holder was the key person who made the pardon of Marc Rich possible in the final hours of the Clinton presidency. Now, Obama will be stuck in the Marc Rich mess.

Co-written by Dick Morris, no love in his heart for either Clinton, but how do you miss this ?

as:

When Kirkpatrick described the San Francisco Democrats by saying that “they always blame America first” for the world’s problems she was effective, even turning the name of the pre-World War II isolationist America First movement into a negative that has stuck to the Democratic Party ever since.

Actually, that whole point about "America First" is obscure and should be cut.

Remember, when the LA Times runs a right-wing article, as often as not (more like all the time) it's in the hope that the author will make a fool of himself and turn off the already left-leaning readers.

Here's a number McCain's people need to work on changing. Apparently only 55% of the polled sample think Obama is "liberal."

The campaign showcased an intriguing chart that compared poll results whan Americans were asked to describe themselves ideologically and then describe McCain and Obama. McCain’s graph largely matches the public – 17 percent see themselves as “very conservative”, and 17 percent of the public describes themselves the same way, on through “somewhat conservative,” moderate, and liberal.” Obama’s chart is very discordant; very few Americans see him as very conservative, and 55 percent see him as “liberal” – a much higher percentage than the 21 percent of the public that sees themselves as “liberal.”

All of Barack Hussein Obama's adult life was spent in close association with the Blame-America-First crowd of the Democrats. Now that he has the Dem nomination sowed up, he will pivot and present himself suddenly as a man of the political center. But he has spent his adult life on the Left, with the Blame-America-First crowd of the Dems, and his flip-flops should be understood as a politician saying what he needs to say in order to get elected. His flip-flops should not be believed any more than his repertoire of changing stories regarding his relationship to his 20-year mentor, Jeremiah Wright.

I'm not voting for Obama because I am not a racist.

If I did vote for him it would be soley because I think it would be nice to finally get a black man in the White House and be done with this chapter in our nation's history. But, he is so obviously NOT QUALIFIED, I can't vote for him.

Does that make sense?

I might vote for Bill Cosby. He is, I think, far more qualified.

Remember, Bolton dealt with these people for years. If he's set on 11, it's for a very good reason.

Bolton gives us a clear-eyed vision of our enemy. If John Bolton had foretold the depravity of 911, many would have told him to tone it down.

While Bolton deals with the Megladon sharks of politics, Obama wants to sit with his feet hanging over the edge of the boat, watching his fishing line, hoping the fish will bite.

Not a good idea.......

Last summer I got a few direct mail fundraising requests from the McCain campaign. I sent every one back empty with "GET IT FROM MEXICO" on the front. I said I would never support the guy.

Never say never....

The new trendy humanitarian crisis is Burma/Myanmar. A few days ago the TNR ran an article asking if it was time to do a "humanitarian invasion" so the storm victims could get their aid. Yeah, limited "humanitarian" military action in a heavily jungled hostile nation is sure to go well, and cause zero collateral damage casualties.

These people are morons.

Yeah I read that the other day, and I probably agree with it all, but Bolton would be a lot more effective if he turned it down from eleven now and then.

It's the "let's turn it down" towards and "let's try to reason with" the opposition that has allowed the opposition to generally control both the language and the argument for so long... some folks don't get it, won't get and will refuse to get common sense even if the world tries to beat it into them... not turning it down allows some folks to at least hear it and have the opportunity to hear it unobfuscated before trying to reject it...

Eh. President H.W. Bush met with Libya after they were responsible for Pan Am 103. They only difference is he had some sort of bargaining chip, which I don't think we have now. Obama cannot appease Iran, and I think he knows that. The next president is going to have to reconcile how we deal with the Middle East, which means finding a powerful coalition of countries that are truly willing to put the screws to Iran and other rogue nations supporting terrorism in the region.

Obama is playing the highly-strung instrument of the anti-American uber-left like a political/machiavellian Edgar Winter/Glenn Gould.

He knows all the tunes they love from "Big Muddy", "I Ain't Marchin' Anymore", "Fortunate Son", "Born in the USA", to "Not Ready to Make Nice", ad nauseam.

His minions cannot hear anything but the siren songs of the Messiah Mahdi.

To busy humming their "hate AmeriKKKa" hymns, they fail to notice that their chosen one has unveiled contempt for them, and only uses them as cheap and handy tools for his metastasizing "makes Bill Clinton look modest" ambition.

This cultic Ophenomenon must be fought and defeated.

It is an article of faith for Obama, and many others on the left in the U.S. and abroad, that it is the United States that is mostly responsible for the world’s ills.

And, of course, according to the Left, since America is responsible for all the world's ills, that's why the rest of the world hates America.

I just heard (for the billionth time) that Obama is "gonna fix that" and "restore" America's "image -- and all the other countries around the world will just "love" America once again. As I laugh. Now there's a whole 'nother set of naive thinking going on there. (What I fear is that if the Obamanation becomes Prez, in order to get other nations to "love" America, he'll disarm America -- the Obamanation's first priority will be to render America defenseless, so then other nations can "love" America.) (what the Obamanation doesn't consider is how certain other nations express their "love.")
