This Isn't the Bicycle I Knew

Sun, Jun 8, 2008 at 2:26:13 pm PDT

Barack Obama goes for a bike ride in Chicago.

With a flat tire.

I HOPE he doesn’t ruin the rim. He really ought to CHANGE that tire.

Ok, I just looked at the other photos as best I could. To me, it looks like the rear tire is a bit lower on air, but hardly flat. By "flat" do you mean completely flat, or just lower on air than it should be? If completely flat, then the picture is a hypocritical (although still not very important) photo-op. But if it is merely low on air, then this is hardly worthy of featuring. Just saying how it looks from here...

Anyone that rides a bike for anything other than a 'photo op' knows that step one is check tire pressure. I usually take short hops of seven miles or so. If I have about 30 psi in my tires, I make it. Anything less, too much rolling resistance and I wear myself out. That rear tire has maybe 3 pounds of pressure in it. Or Oh'Bama weighs 300 pounds.

re: #111 GregInSeattle

I thought the same thing, then I thought of the power of the image of Dukakis looking like a dork in a tank.

That's why GeorgetownPress is upset.

Relax, it's harmless raggin' on the guy.
No one's gonna decide the presidency based on an awkward photo op.

What type of dork rides a bike in jeans?

I do, when it's 30 degrees outside. What is it, 90 degrees in Chicago today? He must have some 'chicken legs' he's trying to hide.

I'm wondering if he'd ever worn a bike helmet?

That's a nice bike helmet.

John McCain's helmet is still in Hanoi.

I'm not trying to pick on Obama's kids (I would hope y'all know me better than that), but what are their ages? Aren't they a little old to be towed?

His younger daughter is just short of 7, so she may not be confident about riding on her own yet. I don't imagine she's had much opportunity to practice w/ her parents this past year.

At the alley he bowls gutter balls
His flat bike tire has mashed side walls
Yet forth he strides with ears unfurled
In hope of leading the Free World.

Had a trailercycle by Trek for my kids. So easy to use. Great product. Ummm...... it looks like he has stuff typical white people use and like.
