Portland Rose Festival Fleet 2008

Mon, Jun 9, 2008 at 11:25:18 am PDT

It’s nice to see that not everyone in Oregon is a raving anarchist: Portland Rose Festival Fleet 2008. (Great photos of US and Canadian Navy ships.)

This is probably a silly question,

But does anyone know what triggered our fearless leader's move from moonbatism to common sense?

I seem to remember he was a self-described former moonbat, converted to a thinking person.

Although I may be wrong.

Has Charles ever blogged about this?

Thank you Charles for all the good news today.

Great Event~Gooooo, Navy. (I love it when McCain wears his NAVY hat. One McCain son may have just graduated from the Naval Academy, the other McCain son is still a young Marine just back from Iraq.)

Too bad some of these ships are defanged, when we need MORE fangs:

Those weren't morons. They were Allah's Army--all volunteer force.

They were highly indoctrinated, madrassa to masters degrees, in radical ideology.

They had rehearsed for years, with a trial run during Pres. Clinton's first month in office.

Let us not underestimate the threat posed by those highly motivated folks.
Let us not underestimate Senator Obama's campaign.

You are correct about the moonbats. Most of my Oregon relatives have moved out of Portland. My cousin, a Vietnam vet, got sick of Portland and moved to Baker City. They are very patriotic over there.

God, I love warships.....The raked bows, built for speed and the deadly firepower packed into these ships is awesome. I even spent 9 months building a large model of a Kidd Class destroyer. I detailed the anti-sub Seahawk Helo and that model looked great on the fireplace mantle. Sadly, I came home one night and my little one had it in the bath tub...:(

All I could do was laugh.....

It's important to realize how little support liberals really have, not just in the hearts and minds of Americans, but in pure numbers. Even in the cities they "own", they're greatly outnumbered by good people who love this country.

I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and I quit trying to go to fleet week several years ago because it's just too crowded even though it's a multi day event held at several locations.

There's always plenty of room at all the moonbat events though.

Dear BDVM--

Matchmaking lizards could be a whole new field for Charles,, but he's busy helping save civilization.

There must be available marriage minded model-making beer drinking victory monkey wanting women on this blog alone. Also among FOX News Cable viewers. Also at local republican political gatherings--heck, republicans drink beer & meet in bars to discuss hawkish subject, I know because I've gone to such things before, even in moonbat areas.

That Canadian boat looks a little like a T-AGOS boat (just barely, it's grey and floats). I did a short deployment as an observer on the USNS Stalwart, a T-AGOS boat back in the early 90's. The skipper told us that we hit sea state 8 (45' seas) for a bit. Holy crap, I'll never forget that! The hull of the boat was jumping out of the water!

Good to see support for the military from a part of the country that lots of us (esp me) mistakenly assume are mostly leftists.

It is akin to giving the dog an old shoe to chew. The dog now thinks chewing shoes is okay and cannot tell the old from the ones you still like.

/your mileage may vary

61 markie  Mon, Jun 9, 2008 12:14:59pm

The Fleet is smaller than in the past, but always good to see. For the most part, the sailors get a good welcome, but there are always moonbats about, and some know how to swim.

I got to ride an old destroyer escort all the way from Portland to Astoria when I was in high school. What a ride! They opened it up a bit to catch up while on the lower Columbia and threw a 8 foot wake that chased people off the riverbank for several miles. I think they got scolded by the Coasties when they stopped in Astoria to let us off.

62 Sequel Mpls again  Mon, Jun 9, 2008 12:33:27pm

That link ha gone bad.

Portland is my home town, I grew up there, but left because of the 9 month rainy season and moonbat infestation. I wanted to see those pics, the rose festival is the highlight of the year for the normal folks.

63 svxr8dr  Mon, Jun 9, 2008 12:38:55pm

Having grown up out here, it's disappointing to see the fleet get progresively smaller over the years. I to can confirm many a moonbat can swim lol.

Ouch,

I live just outside of Portland. This is by far the most leftwing place I have ever lived. This area is mostly lefties. Democrats get 80% of the vote in Portland proper. Obama got 70,000 to come to his event here. Nowhere else in the country gave him that kind of support. Just about every moonbat rally gets huge numbers here.
The rest of the state outside of the populated Willamette valley are normal people, unfortunately just over half the state population lives in the valley and they are mostly moonbats. Even the republican candidates here are left of center.
I may be somewhat jaded since I work in the public college system which is more than 95% lefties. I know how to deal with adversity, lots of practice.

68 Magalaga Ding Dong  Mon, Jun 9, 2008 3:01:28pm

#67 crow:
I live right outside Portland, and I work in downtown Portland. As you probably know, one of the most popular bumper stickers here is "KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD!" It's always been pretty weird, and that's been its appeal for me for the past 20+ years, but I believe strongly that it has taken a sharp left turn (even lefter than before) in the past few years. I'm seriously looking around for new locations. I do not think I can stand this place any more.

Any suggestions?

re: #68 Magalaga Ding Dong

There is a magical thing that happens at the Oregon/ Idaho border. People turn normal again - though I'm sure they are normal in Eastern Oregon also.

Try any town in Idaho. If you don't enjoy a real winter (lot's of snow), try Boise or Lewiston. If you do, McCall is heaven.
