My.BarackObama.com Goes Offline - Update: Back Online

Mon, Jun 9, 2008 at 1:32:06 pm PDT

That’s right: Failed to open page.

Something’s going on over there. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Has Barack Obama thrown his community web site under the bus? Stay tuned for the next chapter.

UPDATE at 6/9/08 1:35:13 pm:

It’s back now. But I couldn’t even ping it for about 20 minutes.

UPDATE at 6/9/08 1:57:46 pm:

It might have been related to this, if they’re using Amazon Web Services.

A "war room"?

Again, image is more important than reality.

The reality is that the Obama campaign is very friendly to America's enemies, and that this derives directly from Obama's inexperience, muddled thinking, and 20+ years of listening to the likes of Rev. Wright.

Out, damned spot!,

It's not going to go away because of some "war room."

When they deny that the "ugly" stuff was

A)from Obama supporters or
B) approved by Obama,

we need to pin them down on whether they agree the content was objectionable and just plain hateful.

"That doesn't reflect Obama."

"So, you admit that support of Mumia, the cop killer, is ugliness?"
"So, you admit that support of Marxism is ugliness?"
"So, you admit that support of anti-semitism is ugliness?"
"So, you admit that support of the Black Panthers is ugliness?"

You got 'em on the run, Charles! Good work! :-)

OT: I found this very interesting while looking at National Review Online today:

An Unconventional Fix for Fuel Prices

An astonishing thing happened last Thursday and Friday: oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose by almost $17 per barrel, or roughly 14 percent. At the same time, the wholesale price for unleaded gasoline added another $0.36 per gallon, or 11 percent.

Media and analysts were quick to blame this unprecedented spike on the declining value of the dollar, on brewing tension between Israel and Iran, and on increasing demand for oil in China, India, and other expanding economies. But this was a market event, not an economic or geopolitical one: Futures trading and speculation is unquestionably putting upside pressure on oil prices.

He proposes some fixes that might work. Comments?

Meh, this happens all the time. Generally when they have large fund drives the my* pages seem to be off-line.

My suspicion was that those resources were directed to campaign contributions.

At one point I noticed header links manually change away from the my* pages (manually because I could see the links commented out and later they forgot to comment one of them back in when they restored the resources).

I think it looks flakey and I can't explain after the number of times this has been done why they haven't come up with a better solution.

Mucking around with the free market isn't a good idea, though I think the *concept* of doing something to burst the bubble is a good one.

There are several things that *could* do that:
a. Announcing exploration offshore and/or in ANWAR.
b. Bush announcing he's going to stop filling (or start tapping) the strategic petroleum reserve.

On Krauthammer, I think he's a sharp guy, and I often agree with him, but in this case, I believe he's off his rocker with respect to establishing a tax to set a floor price on gasoline. That helps nobody.

Off topic, I know, but has this been discussed? Nice of Time to take sides.

Crazy Global Warmers.

Gotta log in now so that they can make sure you are not someone who will let the world in on their little secrets....

Hey guys, got something to hide?

This is why they took down the site: [Link: www.barackobama.com...]

That link no longer works. They are probably sick and tired of Charles finding indexed directories. Silly Pinkos, Interwebz are for Nerdz.

Damnit, Bob Dylan! Of course you like Obama. Heh, imagine Bob Dylan as Obama's running mate?!

Too much smoke for me.

re: #76 dsrtegl

Huh. They were using PWS when I checked a few hours ago on this page , no Apache.

No more…

re: #75 keithgabryelski

Meh, this happens all the time. Generally when they have large fund drives the my* pages seem to be off-line.

My suspicion was that those resources were directed to campaign contributions.

At one point I noticed header links manually change away from the my* pages (manually because I could see the links commented out and later they forgot to comment one of them back in when they restored the resources).

I think it looks flakey and I can't explain after the number of times this has been done why they haven't come up with a better solution.

You can't explain it?

I can.

They're a bunch of incompetent buffoons.

re: #59 vagabond trader

Gad, the Obama is now promising the "middle class" tax breaks on their mortgages. Betcha in the small print it only applies to selected minorities and deadbeats.Because he cares soooo much.

How about allowing homeowners to deduct ALL of their mortgage interest? At present, if you make above a certain amount of money (and it's not all that much), your deduction is limited. Between that and the alternative minimum tax, we have been seriously screwed several times. Apparently, "rich" is now defined as a middle-aged married professional couple who are finally earning decent money.

That's not the web site he used to know.

110 Redline  Mon, Jun 9, 2008 2:14:04pm

I think the SEARCH feature has been removed from the menus. At least I can't find one.

But the search link posted on LGF still works and can be used to search the site.

re: #110 Redline

Actually, it is there. You just have to click on a blog post first. I thought there was a search listed on the regular menu before.

I bet they are optimizing for something different you. In general they seem to collecting A LOT money and doing that reasonably well.

Their my* pages are of tertiary (at best) concern.

It's really about satisfying the needs that must to be satisfied and mitigating the rest. It's called good management.

It's a purge.

Stalin used to edit people out of old photographs. Obama just deletes their pages from the database.
