RetweetBreaking: Jim Johnson Under the Bus!

Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 11:44:47 am PDT

MSNBC is reporting that James Johnson has stepped down from the Barack Obama VP selection committee...

John F. Kerry shows his exquisite sense of timing again: Kerry Defends Obama Veep Vetter.

CHICAGO — John Kerry defended Barack Obama’s Vice Presidential vetter James Johnson today.

“Jim Johnson is a very experienced, very discrete, very capable individual who is performing a voluntary function without pay, without any interest,” Kerry said on a conference call. “He’s not seeking a job and he is acting completely independently to gather information about somebody.”

Johnson served on Kerry’s vice presidential search committee in 2004.

I guess someone finally vetted the vetter. Well, at least he’s still got Eddie Vedder.

JustMyView - Bottom line on this story: A few newspapers carried the story and that was it. As with anything negative about Obama, the MSM may mention it, then the story dies. It is the bloggers who are doing most of the research on Obama and driving the story.
IF the MSM was responsible, we would see a whole lot more on Obama and his ugly secrets and ALL of the MSM would then follow along. Instead we see fawning coverage of him and almost nothing on the huge amount of scandals surrounding him. It is the bloggers that are doing the work and many, many people know this.

As I've pointed out earlier, the only purpose of the freedom of speech is to protect unpopular or controversial speech. (Speech that everyone agrees with requires no special protection).

So in fact the freedom of speech exists solely to protect potentially offensive speech. Freedom of speech and the right to offend are, in fact, virtually synonymous.

It's no dishonor to bloggers to acknowledge that the MSM sometimes gets it right. What, exactly, have bloggers done to introduce the details of this story?

The "few newspapers" that carried this story are the most prominent news outlets in the country.

Bloggers are great. I read lots of them. But very few do any original reporting. That's not a crime, but it is a fact.

It's taken in the 70s, so conversion from 2.9M DM (at ~4:1 Dollars at the time) to dollars to Euros, I leave as an exercise from more mathematically inclined individuals.

Clearly, though, there would be plenty of room under this bus. Excellent return on investment, if I may be so bold.

The man has such a short record, so we must judge him on what we know and what we know is he has terrible judgment. There's just something wrong with him that I can't put my finger on yet.

One of the problems is that the guy is totally green.

He's only held national office for three years, and he's spent fully two of them running for President. He has no executive experience, and never in his life actually run anything of substance.

He's making all sort of "newbie" mistakes, from bad policy pronouncements, to bad hires, to bad handling of scandals (like Wright).

All this *should* have been caught and corrected during the primary season, where vetting is *supposed* to take place, but it wasn't because the left was so focused on unseating Hilary Clinton that they overlooked Obama's flaws.

re: #149 Lizard by the Bay

This whole "under the bus" phenomenon is, admittedly, us having a go at Obama both ways. We criticize him for his poor judgment in associates, and then we lambaste him for distancing himself from said associates, thereby getting him as he's coming and going.

Mind you, I'm not complaining on Obama's behalf; I'm rather enjoying the whole spectacle. But should we perhaps give him some faint praise for at least (finally) acknowledging that these under-bus dwellers are not any part of the mainstream of America?

Nah, I guess not.

It's actually not a Catch-22. We heckle Obama for his, shall we say, exceptionally poor judgment in choosing his various associates AND total lack of loyalty to said associates when they are of no further use to him. Faint praise might be owed if Obama at least had the spine to stick by people he stupidly affiliated with, but instead we are treated to the spectacle of a man with atrocious personal judgment plus the ability to mercilessly jettison his minions at any perceived infraction. Narcissim at its finest.

Today, the heat is so bad, the guy resigns.

A couple of items: (1) If you are "tangential" why do you need to resign? (2) If you aren't paid, why do you need to resign? Couldn't you just leave?

Finally, John Kerry shows us why he is the cappo de tool.

“Jim Johnson is a very experienced, very discrete, very capable individual who is performing a voluntary function without pay, without any interest,” Kerry said on a conference call. “He’s not seeking a job and he is acting completely independently to gather information about somebody.”

OH! So its a book report he's doing? Not a VP search? And without interest? Shame on us for assuming otherwise.

What is funny is his lack of any loyalty, even after, as in the example of Reverend Wright, he has pledged loyalty to them. The case of Johnson is even more bizzare because he hired the man to vet potential VP candidates, but did no research into his background before he gave him the position.

This is an amature's mistake. Obama isn't ready for prime time. Of course we will mock him for it. But it is kind of frightening. If this is an example, his cabinet (to say nothing of his Supreme Court Nominees) will be a disaster.

Not ready for prime time is a drastic overstatement. He has already achieved his level of maximum incompetence as a US Senator. No point whatever in putting him in position to do any more damage.

Not ready for prime time is a drastic overstatement. He has already achieved his level of maximum incompetence as a US Senator. No point whatever in putting him in position to do any more damage.

I reserve the maximum incompetence label for my Senator Patty Murray! Rumored to be on the Veep list, I wonder if the list went under the bus with Jimmy Johnson?

LBTB

This whole "under the bus" phenomenon is, admittedly, us having a go at Obama both ways. We criticize him for his poor judgment in associates, and then we lambaste him for distancing himself from said associates, thereby getting him as he's coming and going.

Mind you, I'm not complaining on Obama's behalf; I'm rather enjoying the whole spectacle. But should we perhaps give him some faint praise for at least (finally) acknowledging that these under-bus dwellers are not any part of the mainstream of America?

Nah, I guess not.

What you are missing is that he is only throwing these people under the bus once they become a political liability. He always tries to defend himself at first with the dubious associate by either stating that they are not as bad as we are making them out to be or by stating that they are really not associated with him. Then when that doesn't stick he switches to "I guess I didn't know them as well as I thought."

Ayers - just a guy in the neighborhood who is an English professor, not acknowledging his earlier statements of close friendship and numerous boards served on together. Also tried to distance himself from Ayers by stating that Ayers' terrorist acts were when Obama was a child, by implication making it ok to hang around him.

Rezco - we were friendly and he made a few donations, but we did not have much to do with each other, a lot of people contributed to my campaigns. Truth - Rezco bought him a friggin piece of property that he would have been otherwise able to afford.

Rashid Khalidi - Obama describes him as a guy from the neighborhood who is a professor and whose kids go to school with the Obama kids. Truth - nights around Mona's and Rashid's dinner table that opened doe-eyed Barry to his own biases (i.e. he learned to start believing in the Palestinian cause); gave a going away speech on behalf of Rashid when he went to take the Edward Said chair of Jew Hating at the Bir Zeit on the Hudson.

Samantha Power - not really an adviser regarding anything offensive she might have believed; truth - midnight text messages which now appear to have been replaced by Scarlett Johanssen;

Robert Malley - not really an adviser, just a guy who gave some advice;

Jerimiah Wright - this is big one; It went from he is my moral compass and spiratual mentor to - I never heard anything negative from him it was all peace and love to I heard him say "controversial things" but that is just a small part of who he is to I don't agree with him, but he is retiring and he was just a guy at a church I went to sometimes to hey whitey, proud african americans talk like this, you better get used to it you intolerant racists; to I never really knew him.

Church - it is like any other church to its a black thing, you wouldn't understand to I must leave it to protect it.

This is not a man who dumps something to reflect his own values but rather he dumps something because it does reflect his negative values and he doesn't want the mask to come off. Whenever someone is thrown under the bus by the messiah it is only after there presence becomes politically inolerable to him. It is the old, "I'm sorry for getting caught." He only threw his spiratual mentor and church under the bus after it became politically intolerable for him, and not as you suggest because they are out of the mainstream (something he won't admit to this day). Thus he still hangs onto Tony McPeak an Zbig Brezinski and Susan Rice. There is absolutely nothing to be lauded by his actions.

What is the evidence of that? Are there bloggers who have brought new evidence against Johnson to light? If so, which? The MSM is quite obviously not covering up for Obama. I didn't see that use. I saw:

At a news conference in St. Louis yesterday, Obama was asked about Johnson and the fact that the candidate has often criticized the activities of Countrywide. Rather than defend his choice, he sought to suggest that the role Johnson is playing is only tangential to his campaign and that it is impossible for the campaign to vet the vetters.

"Jim Johnson has a very discrete task, as does Eric Holder [another member of the VP search team], and that is simply to gather up information about potential vice presidential candidates," Obama responded.

Seriously, if you don't have any of your own children, you really can't appreciate something like this. It like the pecking order backseat one-upsmanship. It reminds me of my kids in the car.

Whether or not is solely bloggers who have brought this to the forefront, the bigger picture is tantamount. What drops most people's jaws is the fact the msm has not been on the website issue we have watched unfold over the last couple of days is astonishing.

This guy has clinched the Democrat nomination, the amount of baggage he is dropping everyday is unprecedented, and you haggle over who gets credit for what instance.

Btw, I have to say that Obama is really showing presidential judgment in finding his allies. He picks shady people, sticks by them, sticks by them, and then when he can't take it anymore, they are gone.

Good to know.

Apparently we may both be right, here.

Except that the post you and I both responded to (#285) asked whether "Kerry or CB[S]" has used the "discrete" spelling. Which refers to, uh... Kerry's quote, not Obama's. Senator Obama kinda puts his foot in his mouth by commenting that the high price of gas isn't a bad thing; it's only bad because gas went up so quickly. He prefers a gradual increase in the price of gas.

My wife grew up in Argentina, where, according to her, they speak "real Spanish."

Darling, there's a reason they call it Spanish.

To which she answers, "I don't care."

My Spanish teacher was from Argentina. He taught us Argentian Spanish, Castillian Spanish & Mexican Spanish while warning us there were over 300 more different languages called "Spanish."

This was really brought home to me a couple of decades back when a friend of mine moved from Puerto Rico to New England to teach, bringing her children with her. Thinking to be kind to her eldest son, the school system enrolled him in Spanish. The poor boy came home in tears and when I asked what was wrong wailed that instead of having to learn just one foreign language, they were making him learn two!

JMV, that was never the inference of my posts. It is your predictability in finding any opportunity of a pissing contest. That is why I made the comment of predictability.

Someone makes a 2 sentence comment about bloggers being on this story, and you are just waiting to jump on it. You do this all the time.

I don't want an echo chamber, but you need to know, you are predictable.

If I am predictable, it's because it bothers me when people say things that aren't true. And in this case, it simply wasn't true that bloggers were responsible for surfacing the info that brought Jim Johnson down.

And I particularly object to the idea that the MSM never produces any information of value. Again, I like blogs of all sorts, but blogs rarely generate new information. It happens, and sometimes it's important, but it's rare.

This is another reason it's wrong to teach immigrant kids "spanish" in the USA--it's likely a FOREIGN language to them, since central American immigrants speak very different languages than "standard" European-based Spanish taught in the USA.

Teaching English to non-English speakers in our schools is the kindest & best favor.

As for the Soros connection, I don't feel I have an obligation to track every article about Johnson to see whether it's been mentioned. My original response was to a particular incorrect statement. I didn't claim that there were no additional relevant details that hadn't been covered.

Wait a second.

You made a statement that they are looking for good stories.

Now considering how many journalists/reporters/msm types are out there, it would be incumbent upon them to actually relish in such a story.

They are silent. Too many are ideologues, committing the sin of omission.

It should also bother you, that a free media allowed to report on anything they wish to would spend so much time beating an Iraqi prison story to death for years, but not raise an eyebrow about the instances you were given.

The public has decided to respond the mainstream outlets. The proof is in their financial. If it was just about good articles, they would appreciate at least half the country is not to the left, and they would choose to avert financial suicide.

Again, predictable.

re: #446 formercorpsman

It should also bother you, that a free media allowed to report on anything they wish to would spend so much time beating an Iraqi prison story to death for years, but not raise an eyebrow about the instances you were given.

Are you implying that anonymous comments on Obama's blog are more important than the actions of our uniformed military at Abu Ghraib? Because that would really be a statement to make jaws drop.

I don't know how I missed this...

An Inconvenient Truth, the Opera, for La Scala

Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth,” first a film and then a book, is now becoming an opera. Officials of the Milan opera house La Scala say the Italian composer Giorgio Battistelli has been commissioned to write it for the 2011 season, The Associated Press reported. Mr. Battistelli is currently the artistic director of the Arena in Verona.

Hi, FBV !
We're going into Salem tonight to see an Avalanche game!
Can you make sure it doesn't rain?

I mean, you DO have connections there, don't you?

BTW everybody. Salem is the town in Virginia where Borat butchered the National Anthem at the Rodeo for the movie.

Wolfie, if you're still there...look for me. I'll be wearing my green "Viva Le Reagan Revolucion" T-shirt.

This may have already been pointed out, but is there a list of all those that have been thrown under the bus?

If there isn't, there should be. Also their combined weights to determine whether Obama can successfully halt a moving bus by the sheer mass of bodies flung under it.

Dead Horse

This is not the way I planned it
I wasn't supposed to feel this way
Coming down from the physical high
Falling down to the beer stained floor
This is not the way I planned it
I'm losing without ever keeping score
Tearing down your impenetrable walls
Only to find there are 23 more

I'm fading
I'm failing at staying the course
Wasting time
I'm flailing
I'm beating on a dead horse
Wasting my time

This is not the way I planned it
You're crushing me without a word
This is not the way I planned it
Thrown under the bus without a ticket
This is not the way I planned it
I'm sorry that you don't want more
This is not the way I planned it
I'm leaving now so you can go get some more
Wasting my time

re: #423 JustMyView

Actually not. I've written to them from time to time. I don't always get a reply, but I sometimes do. Reporters are interested in good story ideas, so why not find out whether they think your idea is worth pursuing?

Or, better yet, why not write an op-ed about how Soros is funding pretty much everything that happens in relation to the Democratic party and other America-undermining activities such as the McClellan book?

Or better yet, post that info on a blog, where it would be original reporting?

Hey wait, that happened.

480 JSK1121  Wed, Jun 11, 2008 2:05:24pm

I love Pearl Jam and actually saw them at one of those Vote for Change concerts in St. Louis in 2004. I was dumb and in college then, what can I say?

My biggest problem with them, other than the fact that Ten, their first release, was probably their best album, is that they are crazy Moonbat liberals. Especially Vedder.

Then again, most entertainers are in the same boat.

It would seem that Mr. Johnson has been a bad boy especially when he was with Fannie Mae. A scandal has surfaced of cooked books that were cooked to allow Mr Johnson and his buddies to get bonuses they did not deserve. Actually, he got $1.9 million, he did not earn or deserve.

Obama theme song by Queen.
Another One Under the Bus

Chorus
And another one's gone,

another one under the bus.

That bus needs a theme song!

Well consider this, when Obama no longer finds Hanoi John Kerry useful, Kerry won't be tossed under a bus, he's going under a Swift Boat.

re: #484 Dustyvet

Well consider this, when Obama no longer finds Hanoi John Kerry useful, Kerry won't be tossed under a bus, he's going under a Swift Boat.

Are you ready for Secretary of State John Kerry?

Just when I thought I couldn’t like Obama more, the ultimate pot sweetener.

Kerry aides insist he’s not angling for the job and point to his long involvement in foreign affairs. It started with his famous testimony as a 27-year-old veteran questioning the Vietnam War before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It continues today, at age 64, as the No. 3 Democrat on the same panel.

But envisioning him in the post would hardly be a stretch given Obama’s chances at securing the Democratic nomination, a general election shaping up as a “change” campaign and Kerry’s relationship with the Illinois senator.

Kerry would likely face competition from Sen. Joseph R. Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee; Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, a former Peace Corps volunteer who also sits on the panel, and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, a top Obama adviser.

re: #448 galloping granny

Actually McCain is very good when it comes to off the cuff kind of stuff - town hall settings. He doesn't make a great speech. So what? Obama sounds just great when he has cobbled together the speeches of others and uses a teleprompter. And he will reverse every word he said within hours.

For what its worth, President Bush is a pretty lousy extemporaneous speaker and not a particularly skilled speech deliverer either.

But he still won election twice.

McCain may not be great on either count, but I think on both counts he's better than Bush.

I think the the American public is sophisticated enough to separate what is being said from how it is being said.

So...how long is this damned bus? The laws of physic's--as far as I know--still do apply, ie., can we start putting some luggage on top? The chickens, boxes of baby pigs, maybe a gold calf or two, etc., etc..

491 LeonidasOfSparta  Wed, Jun 11, 2008 3:39:26pm

I know the thread is dead-- or nearly-- but Hugh Hewitt is using the Harry Potter theme music and likening the Obama bus (underwhich lay a multitude of folk) to the Harry Potter "Night Bus" while airing clips of all the "under the bus" tosses BHusseinMohammed Obama has made since he started his campaign. It's pretty hilarious.

The Obamessiah must believe that his closest advisors, his campaign blog, and anything else that not longer suits the exigencies of the moment can just disappear like magic after he's thrown them under the bus (Magic Bus). But they won't. Like the Great Oz, when the curtain is pulled back, the Obamessiah is exposed as the fraud that he is.

And it's finally dawning on them that that means them, one day, too.

re: #190 Kansas

John F. Kerry shows his exquisite sense of timing again: Kerry Defends Obama Veep Vetter.

No one mentioned that John Kerry served in Viet Nam.

Hanoi John Kerry still owes his fellow Vietnam Veterans an Apology , and the release of the rest of his military records by signing that Standard Form-180. Kerry only served in Vietnam for three months. His three Purple Hearts, two of the three are for self inflicted wounds.
