Why are you picking on poor Ahmed Bedier? He is, after all, only a member of the Tampa Human Rights Council.

And who among us -- Diene included -- doesn't love the humans in Tampa?

Those are simple CSS borders, nothing tricky at all. The Firefox beta owns that problem, not LGF.

Well thank goodness for Mr. Diene, I say.

Florida is clearly a third-world state, unable to protect its citizens from contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. And all that.

Now that the UN has arrived, I expect Florida to blossom. I envision a place with sandy beaches, a burgeoning population, thriving businesses and -- dare I dream it? -- a citizenry comprising young and old people, blacks, Latinos, Jews...

A place where people from around the world might yearn to vacation, even. A place where people might seek to spend their Golden Years...

Tow the whole UN in to open water and sink it. It is starting to make the League of Nations look effective. These guys are farce-o-matic. Incitement to violence and "fighting words" are already not particularly protected by the first amendment. This is as it should be. But given the pig swill that comes from the mouths of many a Muslim it might be well if they put their own houses in better order.

I remember An interview with Bedier a year ago when he was still with CAIR, and I can't remember the subject, but he came across as attempting to sound like a reasonable person supporting fundamental Islamic beliefs such as not recognizing Israels right to exist, segregation and regulation of female apparel, voting rights, driving rights, education and most other civil rights enjoyed by females in the west. Anyone not sharing his fundamentalist beliefs was an "Islamaphobe" according to Bedier. It would be interesting to know why he broke his ties to CAIR, there is a lot more to this guy than the MSM reports.

Rather like Orwell's Ministry of Truth, they at least have to know what actually happened before they can tell everyone else how they wished it gone instead.

Charging for access just helps them keep from going farther into the red than they are.

I think this is a far more important issue for the UN to check into - and the US to deal with for that matter. US food aid is being seized by Mugabe's thugs. That food was meant for the children of Zimbabwe (because Mugabe's policies have turned a country that once was the breadbasket of Africa into hell on earth and reliant on foreign aid to sustain its population).

Somalia, Sudan, Myanmar, Zimbabwe. Take a country at random, and if it has a collectivist government, any "inconvenience", let alone any natural or manmade disaster, is an excuse for the goons with guns to seize emergency aid coming in and let people they hate starve. It's cheaper than ammo for their Kalashnikovs.

As P. J. O' Rourke once observed, in the modern world, there's no shortage of food, just deliberate political interference in getting it to where it's needed. And famine, either naturally-caused or artificially created, is now a standard-issue "WMD" with Third World governments who would like to be rid of segments of their captive populations that they either don't trust, or just don't like for what Douglas Adams would call "the usual no-very-good reason(s)".

The only thing that surprises me about Zimbabwe (or, as the late Col. Jeff Cooper referred to it, Mugabestan), is that it's taken them 'til now to get around to this page of the "Third World True Socialist Great Leader's Handbook."

Somewhere in Hell, Mao is scratching his bald pate wondering if Mugabe slept through that lecture or something.

"Didn't I already explain the Great Leap Forward, Bob?"

Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding the jet away from the crowd of more than 60,000 people and ensuring he couldn't save the aircraft. I think this is a far more important issue for the UN to check into - and the US to deal with for that matter. US food aid is being seized by Mugabe's thugs. That food was meant for the children of Zimbabwe (because Mugabe's policies have turned a country that once was the breadbasket of Africa into hell on earth and reliant on foreign aid to sustain its population).

these wimps aren't going to go anywhere and confront anyone who would shoot them in the head. or mugabe's henchmen, who would give them a necklace.

Joe I agree one hundred percent. None of the liberals understand that exporting democracy to the ME is a good thing. They seem to feel that feudal kingdoms and Islamic republics devoid of even basic human rights or dignity and love to kill anything that is not Muslim is a good thing. You don't see NOW or Code Pink demonstrating against Saudi Arabia or Iran, nope they are way to busy demon stating against US Marine recruiters in Berkley. You got to have your priorities! I'm with you Joe, I can't think of any significant change in human circumstance that is not connected to warfare. Guess that is why all those war dates are used in history classes. I agree, buzz. To an extent, you prove my point. The elitists only have "feel good" solutions for Africa- nobody wants to get down to the root causes and come up with real, long term solutions. Why- that might be hard and stuff.

Also, as Alvaro Vargas Llosa, et al., say of their own region in Guide To The Perfect Latin American Idiot, the "intellectuals" in the UN, Europe, American academia, etc., view Africa as just one more laboratory for experiments with their favorite answers to all the world's ills, namely Marxist/Leninist collectivism with a side order of Rousseauian primitivism. The idea being that if they can make even one African country a "showcase" of successful socialist/environmentalist rule, they can shame America into becoming a true "progressive" state.

And if it doesn't work, they can always fall back on their default (and subtly racist) excuse, "Well, they [the "locals"] just aren't 'enlightened' [i.e., smart] enough- we can do it better the next time (after you give us more money to play with and stop looking so closely at what we actually are trying to do with it)."

I don't expect any change in the mindset of those responsible for enabling the kleptocratic regimes of Africa to continue stealing and killing, anymore than I expect the Sun to rise in the West tomorrow morning. Some things are just logically impossible.

A notable exception being, alas, the Belgian Congo in the latter part of the 19th Century. When it was the personal colony of king Leopold II, rubber quotas were imposed and forcibly met "by any means necessary". The "body count" from this apparently runs in the seven digits ;-)

The outcry against the situation there inspired what some have called the first modern human rights movement. Eventually Belgian parliament felt they had to so something, and basically voted through a law under which the Belgian state bought the colony from Leopold II. Under Belgian colonial administration (rather than L2's personal plunder), things shaped up quickly (not that they could go further down).

I think McCain may be looking at it in terms of a successor to the UN. Don't forget, while the UN was formed in the waning days of WW II as a successor to the League of Nations, the League wasn't officially dissolved until a year after the official founding of the UN. Like the LON, McCain may view the UN as a failed organization with a low long-tern survival potential, and thus may be thinking in terms rather like those of the college professor in H. "Civilized nations must take concrete action to curb incitement of racial and religious hatred by supporting dialogue and education."

Mr Bedier,

If you really want to protect Muslims from Islamophobia and promote peace it would seem more beneficial to spend your efforts countering your fanatical brethren who insist of terrorism, anti-Semitism and anti-Westernism as a mode of operation. Seeing as how Islam is a religion of peace you should stand between your crazy ass fundamentalist brothers and everybody else. All that 'caliphate' and 72 raisin talk, the whole subjugation of women, and did I mention the bombings? That's freaks everybody out. Can you blame them for being a tad 'phobic?'

If there was nothing to be phobic about, there would be no Islamophobia, no? Though we like to make fun of others, there's no Swissophobia, or Hinduphobia, or Floridophobia... get it?

Meanwhile, the Canadian Islamic Counsel can't believe "islamophobia" isn't on top of the hate list of crimes in Canada.

So Bedier is back. Good for him, he seems perfectly trained for his new job.

Send this piece of Doudou to any muslim country to investigate their teachings and conduct toward non muslims and/or non arabs. Send him to Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iran, throughout the 57 Islamic Conference, and let him make an 'objective' assessment of the racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and antisemitism prevalent there. Unfortunately, for this piece of deep Doudou, there are only three countries that are 'racist', Israel, USA, and Denmark (the cartoons naturally). Everyone else has paid their taqqiya to their overlords and get a pass from this charlatan.

I'm back, I'm back. After the great computer crash, I was finally able to re-register. Just in time to say that Doo-doo sucks, back to Africa with him! Africa must save itself. Good luck on that. But, I've been done with the apologists about the time I saw all those stories about men raping babies to cure AIDS or refusing vaccines to get back at the Great Satan. Some wacko mother saying that she's ok that her baby is paralyzed from polio cause she didn't want the evil vaccine. She really showed me. How's that working out for you and your kid? If you want to see a lefty's head explode, start comparing Taiwan or South Korea to any country in Africa...
