Well thank goodness for Mr. Diene, I say.

Florida is clearly a third-world state, unable to protect its citizens from contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. And all that.

Now that the UN has arrived, I expect Florida to blossom. I envision a place with sandy beaches, a burgeoning population, thriving businesses and -- dare I dream it? -- a citizenry comprising young and old people, blacks, Latinos, Jews...

A place where people from around the world might yearn to vacation, even. A place where people might seek to spend their Golden Years...

I remember An interview with Bedier a year ago when he was still with CAIR, and I can't remember the subject, but he came across as attempting to sound like a reasonable person supporting fundamental Islamic beliefs such as not recognizing Israels right to exist, segregation and regulation of female apparel, voting rights, driving rights, education and most other civil rights enjoyed by females in the west. Anyone not sharing his fundamentalist beliefs was an "Islamaphobe" according to Bedier. It would be interesting to know why he broke his ties to CAIR, there is a lot more to this guy than the MSM reports.

Rather like Orwell's Ministry of Truth, they at least have to know what actually happened before they can tell everyone else how they wished it gone instead.

Charging for access just helps them keep from going farther into the red than they are.

Somalia, Sudan, Myanmar, Zimbabwe. Take a country at random, and if it has a collectivist government, any "inconvenience", let alone any natural or manmade disaster, is an excuse for the goons with guns to seize emergency aid coming in and let people they hate starve. It's cheaper than ammo for their Kalashnikovs.

As P. J. O' Rourke once observed, in the modern world, there's no shortage of food, just deliberate political interference in getting it to where it's needed. And famine, either naturally-caused or artificially created, is now a standard-issue "WMD" with Third World governments who would like to be rid of segments of their captive populations that they either don't trust, or just don't like for what Douglas Adams would call "the usual no-very-good reason(s)".

The only thing that surprises me about Zimbabwe (or, as the late Col. Jeff Cooper referred to it, Mugabestan), is that it's taken them 'til now to get around to this page of the "Third World True Socialist Great Leader's Handbook."

Somewhere in Hell, Mao is scratching his bald pate wondering if Mugabe slept through that lecture or something.

"Didn't I already explain the Great Leap Forward, Bob?"

There's a line in the movie Sahara where the bad guy says to one of his cohorts, "Nobody cares about Africa". That line has stuck with me, because for all these international elitists- I think it's quite true.

At the risk of being totally non-PC, what's to care about? Most of the nations of Africa have great fertility and/or immense mineral wealth, or at least the natural resource of tourist spots of great beauty--and their societies remain mired in poverty, internecine tribal warfare, and sexual practices which facilitate the spread of horrendous disease.

Those nations which are former Western colonies had in most cases an educated class which was familiar with the concept of equal rights under law--yet even those nations in which those concepts seemed to have taken root are awash in corruption and mob violence at best.

Short of re-colonizing Africa, which is not going to happen, the only way for these nations to ratchet themselves out of the mire is for them to commit themselves to building societies that reflect something other than the late Bronze/early Iron Ages.

"We thank SR Diene for hearing our concerns about the rise in anti-Muslim bigotry in the United States, and we appreciate his concern about Islamophobia's growing threat to world peace," said Ahmed Bedier.

You'll prove my point, soon enough. It's the whole reason ec marm was busting your balls in the first place. I just don't think you're sincere.

I was really not busting his balls. I thought it was an interesting commentary, and perhaps I should have been a tad less snarky. Sure beats what I perceive as knee-jerk contrarianism(sp?).

When is Mr. Diene going to haul ass and check on the conditions of Jews in Syria and Bahai in Iran? When is a formal American delegation going to Mr. Diene's country to explore its concern and respect for human rights?

And as we watch Africa sink into a death spiral of corruption, tribal and religous massacres. We also observe the rise of the domination of the UN by African and ME diplomats, many of the highest positions in the UN are held by Africans, is there any wonder why a global government dominated by politicians from the most corrupt continent on the planet has led the UN to ineffective and corrupt policies?

Was the future that long ago?

Seems like only yesterday.

I always thought it looked better on the ladies than the gents.

UFO; Fashions

Loved the mauve anti-static wigs on the Moonbase ladies. Not to mention their uniforms.

/As Zondy says, however, men in Nehru jackets look like total gits.

Check out the rest of his site, too- if you're into SF, retro-future, etc., it's a hoot. His snark approaches MST3K levels at times.

Ha!

I know.

When people like Bedier claim that they're hated (or, alternatively, feared) in America, it's like a little smarmy guy standing in front of your mortal enemy, and saying, "You look angry."

Get out of the way, Bedier. It's not Muslims people hate, or Islam people want to dismantle. It's Islamists. Islamic supremacists.

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Capt. Christopher Stricklin ejects from the USAF Thunderbirds number six aircraft less than a second before it impacted the ground at an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, Sept. 14. Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding the jet away from the crowd of more than 60,000 people and ensuring he couldn't save the aircraft. This was only the second crash since the Air Force began using F-16 Falcons for its demonstration team in 1982. The ACES II ejection seat performed flawlessly. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Africa has been going down hill ever since the European colonies pulled out. As oppressive and racist as the Europeans were, the population were not starved and killed in the millions as is fashionable today.
Africa needs to get its act together, and its not going to happen. Africa will be a hell-hole for another 100 years.

I tend to agree with you but what if anything do you think will change in that 100 years? More and more as I look at the world,I find more genius in the so called Bush Doctrine as a means to really and finally reshape circumstances in these hell wholes..maybe enlightened democracy enforced at the end of a gun isn't the ideal circumstance but at least it's an effort in the proper direction and not the stand still moralizing of the U.N.,Europe and indeed much of the rest of the planet..of course it will be a long hard slog, but what of value isn't?

I meant that, of course, in the lightest sense of the phrase. I'm sorry if I insinuated any mean-spiritedness in your post.

Tornado warnings; two counties away. By my calculations, the storm should lose just enough energy by the time it arrives, that it will be a magnificent display of lightning and thunder without the messy risk of a twister.

re: #100 buzzsawmonkey

I agree, buzz. To an extent, you prove my point. The elitists only have "feel good" solutions for Africa- nobody wants to get down to the root causes and come up with real, long term solutions. Why- that might be hard and stuff.

re: #71 lawhawk

I think this is a far more important issue for the UN to check into - and the US to deal with for that matter. US food aid is being seized by Mugabe's thugs. That food was meant for the children of Zimbabwe (because Mugabe's policies have turned a country that once was the breadbasket of Africa into hell on earth and reliant on foreign aid to sustain its population).

these wimps aren't going to go anywhere and confront anyone who would shoot them in the head. or mugabe's henchmen, who would give them a necklace.
doo doo etc. want to come here and dine out in fancy restaurants and be the honored guests at elite cocktail parties. and demean america w/ leftist assh*les like the bill ayers terrorist crowd.
that is how these u.n. phony jerks help the world.
and the real victims of prejudice and brutality continue to suffer because it is the weak pretending to be brave.
it is madness.
