Obama 'Fight the Smear' Site Pwned on Its First Day - Update: It's a Parody, But Still Amateur Hour

Thu, Jun 12, 2008 at 1:52:44 pm PDT

Amateurish beyond belief.

On its very first day online, the Barack Obama “Fight the Smears” web site has been pwned.

UPDATE at 6/12/08 2:01:50 pm:

I didn’t notice that the address of this site is FightTheSmears.ORG, not .COM ... this is a parody site. But it’s no less amateurish — because what happened is that the Obama campaign’s web people forgot to register the .org domain. Another beginner’s mistake.

UPDATE at 6/12/08 3:56:30 pm:

The link has been removed because it now contains links to porn sites.

At the bottom of the page:
This Site is in no way Affiliated with the Obama Campaign and is just a parody. The John McCain site will be ready soon.

This is going to be fun.

32 Underwhere Underthere  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 2:00:24pm

They did register the .com, they did not register the .org.

And the .org domain is already in the spam blacklist! I tried emailing a couple friends with the .org domain in my message, and it was blocked.

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. And secondly they wouldn't know the truth if it smacked em in the ass.

39 kywrite  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 2:03:01pm

Yup, just a parody. It shows ignorance of how the Web works, not of how to secure a site. Kinda like Whitehouse.com.

40 galloping granny  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 2:03:11pm

You have got to be kidding me! Though this excuse about it being a fake site?

Somebody asked on the previous thread why Obama's campaign would bother to release a fake birth certificate through KOS. Charles I think. It dawned on my while I was pulling weeds that there is a very good reason for that. If it is accepted as his birth certificate, all well and good.

And if it is a fake, the heat is on KOS and Obama can safely throw him under the bus with Grandma!

Thats the amateur part of all this.

re: #25 mama winger

The man is incompetent. Why is he running for President? Who would hire this man to work for them in any managerial or decision-making capacity?

I don't know. I suspect my local McDonald's would not hire him because he has no management experience at all. I know that one of the largest employees in the area would not hire him, because they require all of their employees to have at least one full year of management experience - not community rabble rousing. I am darned positive not a fortune 500 on the planet would hire him as a CEO, because he has absolutely no track record.

You tell me why we should even consider him for what is the single most responsible management position on the planet?

49 Diamond Bullet  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 2:05:19pm

The owners of the parody site should see how much the Obama campaign Soros would pay to get the .org domain back. And donate it to McCain (minus a reasonable commission).

Obama Refuses to ride the Straight Talk BUS Tonight

Please tune into The Fox News Channel tonight at 7PM EDT to watch the first 2008 Presidential Town Hall, broadcast from Federal Hall in New York City. This historic location is where President George Washington first took the oath of office. Tonight it will play host to John McCain while he answers questions from real voters about important issues including the economy, energy prices and the war.

Last week, John McCain invited Senator Obama to participate tonight, hoping to start what would be a series of ten town hall meetings where both candidates would travel the country to answer questions from real voters. Senator Obama has yet to agree to meet us in these town halls. These town halls would revolutionize our political process and start a real change in the tone of politics. John McCain believes in this effort and is putting it into action.

Please tune into the Fox News Channel, tonight at 7PM EDT to witness first-hand John McCain's brand of straight talk with voters.

Supreme Court ruled today that Gitmo detainees have a right to access to U.S courts.
The decision came down 5 to 4. Not clear yet which swing justice sided with the four Liberals.Geraldo was just on Fox with Meygn Kelly screaming like a fool about how this corrected an injstice.
Have to wonder if the Court will next rule that they have a right to vote in November. You know, so that the Obama vote is not surpressed.

Barry's "birth certificate" is now on his website.

And Captain Kirk, along with his crew, will once again have to save the Universe from a horrible fate.

And who's Kirk gonna shag to accomplish that?

Supervillians in Japanese Manga never say bwa haa haa they say kukuku. So therefore KUKUKUKUKUKU! This is too good.

Charles,

Maybe we should suggest that Markos do the security for Obama's site. After all, he's done such a good job of keeping all the wackos off his own site.

Rick Rolled will fight the smears.

Vote Obama for Change! Change to a newer, funnier, sillier presidency! Yay.

117 Pshawalaw  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 3:03:17pm

Is that some sort of Anti-Semite site? I had a bagel with a smear the other day, some folks associate that fare with Jewish delis.

118 Kailen  Thu, Jun 12, 2008 3:03:47pm

As a note: This parody pretty much is just changing the "truth" bits. The original site has the same "lies". And the site itself IS lying. Limbaugh, on his show, only mentioned the tape to say it sounded like "why'd he", and gave it no more attention or credit than that.

Barry's "birth certificate" is now on his website.

It looks real, somehow I expected it to be done in crayon.

Good point, I heard that Rush segment too.

Ron Paul suspends his campaign.

Would I be a jackass for asking,

Isn't registering the domain something that was forgotten when OpenSourceMedia/PajamasMedia debuted?

re: #111 CoCo

When did anyone question his citizenship? Is Barry making up smears to refute? For a guy who's running a campaign, he sure has a lot of free time on his hands.

Geesh.

Geesh.

Well, I do know the astrologers needed it for the exact time of birth...maybe they were complaining.

Most of what I read expressed curiousity about his name (Barry or Barack) and religion (Christian/Muslim/None/etc.). Of course, those bits of info are not included on what he released.

The big todo I recall was the Dems saying that Senator McCain was not eligible, having been born in Panama, but that was shot down.

In today's world, any issue not completely and utterly verified is open to speculation. I have seen questions raised about his citizenship, he would have been wise to release his birth certificate before now. Holding private documents you promise to make public (a pledge he made) is not a good idea; ask John Kerry.

Oh My!

[Link: newsbusters.org...]

For a time this afternoon, MSNBC mistakenly promoted the prank site [Link: fightthesmears.org,...] as opposed to the actual Obama site [Link: fightthesmears.com....]

I hope Crissy Matthews' leg is okay after this disaster!

The guy is a Pornographer. He admits it on the .org website. He took down the parody page and put up a bunch of links to the porn sites that I assume he owns and runs. CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK.

(I think he knows that us conservative bloggers are linking to this).

Despite the .org address almost every smart web designer for something as big as a POTUS canidate would try to register as many variants of the domain they try use as possible.

If the Obama campaign intends to fight smears, perhaps they need to get what the subjects actually said correct.

On the front page:

LIE: Rush Limbaugh says a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “whitey” from the pulpit of Trinity United

When you click through on 'Continue Reading':

On May 30th, Rush Limbaugh said he had heard a rumor that a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “Whitey” from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ.

That's two different things.
Transcript from Rush's show

This is me on May 30th, and this is what I said about this.

RUSH ARCHIVE: There are these rumors circulating — and I don’t know if this is true, but there are a number of people suggesting — and I first heard this, by the way, when I was gone Monday and Tuesday of last week.

RUSH: Okay, stop the tape, stop the tape. That would have May 14th and 15th or whatever when I was out there playing Torrey Pines, so the middle of May. That’s when I first heard this. What is it now? June the 12th. So this is about a month ago that I said this, and all of a sudden now this becomes front-page news, thanks to the AP and the Drive-By Media.

How many people have clicked through instead of just reading the line on the front page that is obviously false?
