Huckster Joins Fox News

Fri, Jun 13, 2008 at 12:27:30 pm PDT

Blecch.

Huckabee joining Fox News as political commentator.

Maybe Huckabee and Pat Buchanan should have a show together.

I was going to say something but it was a suggestion of comic slapstick violence.

re: #1 Charles,

That'd be a ratings disaster. I can't understand why Fox wants either of them as commentators. Surely they could do better at the local homeless shelter.

But the good news is...

(Maybe) That means he has no chance of being McCain's running mate!

Recent developments seem to suggest a new policy is now operative as regards the difficulty of capturing, housing and feeding prisoners. Couple of weeks ago, there was this dazzling plastic gem:

I'm not sure what he was trying to say--maybe that he was bewildered or nauseated or whatever--but I'd take him as a receptacle for spew sooner than an anchor on the only decent news network.

Problem being that if Obama gets elected, plan on seeing lots of "war crimes" trials for military pilots and artillery troops. Or just plan on never reading about another Predator or Reaper taking out a hive of terrorists because the pilots know that they will be on trial if the bastards were smart enough to bring their kids to their jihad confab.

It is so amusing that the Supremes and the donks want to use EUrope as a paradigm for our laws.
There is no Miranda rights there and I think arrestees can get pretty beaten up over there before the "voluntary confessions'. There is no comparison so what are these twits saying?

He also has a piss-poor command of the language and poor conceptual skills. And he gets inappropriately passionate at some times and reeks of insincerity at other times. I guess he has his moments, but I scarcely tolerate him long enough to notice, anymore. Sometimes it's kind of fun when he tears into someone, but it has to be someone much stupider than him to really work. And since he's an anchor and not an effective commentator, I suppose he shouldn't be tearing into guests at all.

Godwin's Law /prov./ [Usenet] "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups

remember when you use the terms COMMUNIST, STALINIST, NAZI OR FASCIST that the person refered to should be a real one. Other wise read Godwin's law.

He doesn't have a Jewish name so it didn't occur to me to think of it.

Funny, in the disparaging entry in the KOS Encylopedia, his being Jewish is a big deal.

Copied using the Google Web cache feature:

Alan Colmes
From dKosopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Alan Colmes is the suspiciously weak and ineffective "liberal" foil to Sean Hannity on Fox News. Before he was hired by Fox News, the open spot he filled was labeled as "LTBD" or "Liberal To Be Determined." Worse than a milquetoast, Colmes serves as the liberal Stepin Fetchit for Fox. He is a figure almost masochistic in his willingness to give ground in arguments to conservative guests by providing strawman arguments. It is also highly suspicious that Fauxnews picked a Secular Jew to fill the role of a liberal.

Colmes also hosts a late night radio program The Alan Colmes Show.

Here's a few theories to start off:

1) Everyone loves to gawk at disasters
2) Some bozo in medialand thinks Huck has the entire
Christian Right in his back pocket.
3) It's probably Bush's fault.

I only watch select portions of TV. Like I'll TiVO a show

Huckabee is a member of the religious right, part of a large group of Democrats that came over in the last thirty years. Of course he's going to be more left-minded, that was the original stance of the Southern religious community, and they're still heavily affected by their roots. Many of the socially conservative people in the group are still on the left in terms of fiscal and economic policy.

Yes...as a pro-choice, agnostic on gay marriage, biochemist and military wife, I've had to overlook a lot of creationist nonsense in politicians that I supported...GW Bush among them.

I'd still rather have Jindal than Obama, or Sebelius, or any of the lib bunch.

re: #190 Charles

Huckabee is also a creationist, by the way.

As to that, Charles, two kinds of creationists seem to exist (heh, besides all the others). One is the Dennis Prager kind, who believe it is impossible for science and theology to be incompatible--where essentially, science is the search for the theological truth as well as the basic facts. The other kind are the "King James Version" creationists, who believe much of science is a lie.

[Yes that last bit was a huge slander, if you are a staunch KJV type. I invite such friends to take it less slanderously, and consider that I am using a very rough shorthand. Creationism and Intelligent Design are complex concepts, but the distrust of mainstream science is pretty solidly part of the literature.]

Governor Huckabee is a better spokesman for the latter type of Creationism, IMO. This adds to the caricaturish flavor.

Go ahead and believe anything you like. No one is stopping you. The problem with creationists is that they're trying to corrupt science education in the US, with religious teaching disguised as science.

And if you thought better of LGF because you believed I was in favor of anti-science religious agendas being deceptively promoted by fanatics, I guess you were wrong.

I wonder if all of these surreal broadcasting decisions lately could be having an impact on Fox's ratings? If O'Reilly hasn't lost a lot of viewers lately, I'd be very surprised.

I was thinking they've already lost viewers, and this is their cockamamie idea of luring the religious right back to FOX.

I gave up on fox a couple years ago, and ever since- I haven't missed them much. What's more- they keep giving me reasons as to why I should stick by that decision.

LOL Please, man! I do enough screaming at my TV as it is!

This story is in such sharp contrast to the passing of Tim Russert. There simply are no real journalists left. Is that the reason Huckabee got the job? I mean look at Buchanan. He's everywhere. And TV media ponders why people get the bulk of their news from the net. (Or did someone ponder that upthread). In fact, I only watch TV news on Sunday morning and Meet the Press started it off. I'm so saddened to hear of Russert's passing. Who's left? Huckabee? yeesh

Yeah, nothing worse than a person that believes the Bible might be true.

I don't think we need to conflate "belief in the Bible" with Creationism. It's mostly among fundamentalists where you find those who exclude mainstream science, not among the majority of Christian thinkers. Does that mean the non-fundamentalists do not believe in the Bible?

It's true that "evolution" is very poorly understood by those who do not follow science closely, and it is often misrepresented. Unfortunately, typical Creationist publications base much of their polemic on those misrepresentations. In fairness to the Creationists, Creationism is also poorly understood by those who don't study it as an idea. Among many anti-Creationist activists, that poor understanding leads to weakness in their arguments.

As with many competing ideas, the truth is avoided by the most zealous of both camps. The two concepts are not as antithetical as many make them seem.

I hope that turns out to be not true. I have a friend who lives in Shreveport La. and she says that he is really trying to get rid of the long established corruption of that state. If Jindal can clean up La. and believes in strong aggressive non Condi Rice foreign policy and economic positions, I think he would be a strong candidate. Please , no Jeb Bush establishment candidates in 2012. After the Bob Dole, George HW Bush, George W. Bush and (I fear) McCain disasters, we need a credible candidate. I could think of a third F, and possibly a fourth. Too bad Falwell croaked, or there'd be yet another F to add to the Fabulous Fox Fruitbat Fundie entourage.

The lineup couldn't be less palatable. OTOH, I'm sure they can find a way. I wonder... do they have Fred [F]Phelps' number in the Rolodex? Gimme another F!

He really turned this city around, he told the racial arsonists (my former class mate Sharpton) that they no longer were welcome at Gracie Mansion, he understood the threat we face from the religion of peace, he understood the fact that in order to spur economic growth you need to create a favorably business environment by lowering taxes as much as possible and reigning in regulations, he was a tough law & order man. yes he had a healthy ego (and was an annoying Yankees fan) but what politician, athlete or entertainer does not have an over sized ego. He was an ethnic Republican who could appeal to the Reagan Democrats - I too got a feeling of foreboding when his candidacy tanked. John Bolton would have been the type of guy that Rudy would have wanted at State instead of an incompetent Condi Rice, Giuliani would not have had the blind loyalty towards incompetents that GW Bush has had.

I also have problems with those who are pushing ID as a replacement or co-equal "science" with what is commonly called "evolution." But I grew up surrounded by those who took the first part of Genesis to be the literal truth. Not all of them think that the Creationists are correct in waging the battles they wage. Especially in how they go about it.

IOW, not all who believe in the Genesis account want to cram ID down everyones' throat. However, many scientists do believe the Universe was manufactured, somehow. They just want to understand "how." That's a far cry from shilling for--or even accepting--the ID proponents' dogma.
