Obama Fans Upset About Hate Speech, Lefty Blogs Defend It

Sat, Jun 14, 2008 at 11:31:23 am PDT

Quite a few of Barack Obama’s own supporters are disturbed by the amount of antisemitic hate speech and other assorted craziness at the my.barackobama.com web site.

But that doesn’t stop the fine folks at the aptly-named Crooks and Liars from defending it anyway.

The left seems to be intent on blowing themselves up in short order. It amazes me that the party is still around. I think if this lunacy continues, the vast majority of clear thinking American's will not vote for Obama.

Exactly, they are upset because this type of exposure will diminish the great marxist uniter's chance for victory, not because they disagree with it.

You can always rely on the Left to defend the indefensible, to be tolerant of the intolerant, to apply a standard of no standards. They are vacuous, vapid, and have the emotional maturity of a 10-year old.

40 jaunte  Sat, Jun 14, 2008 11:54:56am

Maybe some lights are coming on, even at "Crooks and Liars."

Commenter mike says:

I’m left, I’m pro-Obama. I cannot speak to the truth of the claim that anti-semitic or other posts are being made on Obama’s site. But I can say that the right wing blog has it right when it says that it is no excuse to say you are running an open forum.

If you are running for the Presidency, then everything that appears on YOUR web sites is YOUR content. If you don’t delete it you endorse it. PERIOD. There should be no argument about this. You have no business being in the business of running a free market of ideas. Furthermore, if you DO delete some comments (and I’ll bet the Obama campaign does, then you have all the less legitimacy claiming “open forum” for other comments.

Again, I don’t know the facts of how many such comments are on Obama’s site, and I don’t know whether they are “really” antisemitic or anti-Jewish or anti-Israel... usually it is pretty much the same thing in my experience... but if Obama’s campaign doesn’t delete them I for one am going to have to assume they consider such views to be within the realm of reasonable discourse. I can’t see any other way to interpret it.

I hope more are reading and beginning to understand what the concern could be, rather than just passing it off as "right wing dirty tricks."

I happen to think that Obama is a decent guy but he is in over his head and he has made too many compromises over the years, allowing him to gain national prominence well before he was really ready.
Right now, he is completely losing ideological control of his campaign as he seems either unable or unwilling to rein in the crazies.
Compromising with crazies (Wright for example) is one of the things that got him this far and he may not quite realize that things are very different at the national level. This is very likely to bring the Democrats a disaster of historic dimensions in November.

70 Arbalest  Sat, Jun 14, 2008 12:13:08pm

From the Crooks and Liars site:

The practice has always been rather self-defeating. In fact, about a year ago, Kevin Drum came up with a sensible maxim: “If you’re forced to rely on random blog commenters to make a point about the prevalence of some form or another of disagreeable behavior, you’ve pretty much made exactly the opposite point.” Eventually, the practice was even given a name: “Nutpicking” (emphasis mine)

The implication of “random”, as used in the C&L post, is what? “atypical of the posts in the blog/thread in question”, “noticeably different in viewpoint from the majority of posts”, perhaps “cherry-picked”?

Yet C&L then posts this LGF quote (of C.):

A search of the official my.barackobama.com site for “Jewish Lobby” reveals an enormous amount of antisemitic hatred being posted.... There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of posts that refer to the “Jewish lobby” at the Obama site. I stopped looking at the results on page 10. [...]
(again, emphasis mine)

hundreds, possibly thousands of posts” is clearly not the same as “random” as used by C&L. Literate readers know this, the writer should too.

Side question: suppose that repeated, randomly picked (perhaps a Monte Carlo simulation), questions from a site/thread.etc., show some sort of bias; does this then indicate the values of the site?

Perhaps Kevin Drum is wrong. It looks like C&L loses again.

Then this:
There are a couple of problems with this approach. First, the Obama campaign (to its credit) created an open online forum. Anyone can “post a blog there,” and it’s not the campaign’s fault when someone adds offensive content.

“(to its credit)”? Ha. Ha.

“...not the campaign’s fault ...”?
- What is the job of their moderators?
- What is the bias of their moderators?

Second, the campaign has moderators to delete the truly ridiculous posts and comments, but it’s hard to keep up with the level of abusive text.

The moderators seem unwilling “ to delete the truly ridiculous posts and comments”, the hundreds /thousands of them (for months), until the existence of comments is publicized. Then the posts disappear with no apparent “logistical problem”.

That’s just a practical, logistical problem, but it hardly speaks to bigotry within the campaign or among the campaign’s supporters in general.

Actually, it points the finger of agreement with the posts in question at the campaign.

Indeed, “Crooks and Liars” seems appropriately self-named.

I really doubt that Obama is a decent guy . He lies constantly and denies his background. He chose to consort with an unrepentent terrorist. He chose the racist anti American Church & despicable Reverend.
He chose to marry a racist.

The socialists and liberal elite hate having their whitewashed facade ripped away. They are worried about losing the support and votes of those who are liberal because it sounds nice if you don't think too much and liberalism give them warm, happy thoughts.

Hate speech from the mouth of Obama!

Mobster wisdom tells us never to bring a knife to a gun fight. But what does political wisdom say about bringing a gun to a knife fight?

That's exactly what Barack Obama said he would do to counter Republican attacks "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun," Obama said at a Philadelphia fundraiser Friday night. "Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I've seen Eagles fans."

This is grossly irresponsible. For any one to talk about bringing a knife or gun to the political campaign even figuratively is threatening in that there are people crazy enough to follow the words of Obama and do just that and literally try to harm McCain. What a stupid, ignorant, irresponsible thing to say in a presidential campaign. And the fact that the words came from Obama is just unbelievable. Again, Obama clearly demonstrates his total lack of judgment.

On Obama's anti-smear site it debunks the rumor that He has ever been a Muslim. The claim is that he is a commited Chtristian.
Their assertion is very false. After Fox ran with the story that Barry attended a madrassa in Indonesia, one of the networks sent a crew to dispeove the story & they did. I believe that it was 20/20.
The headmaster of a public school had records of Obama sttending from grades 2 through 6 , registerd as a Muslim. He recieved 2 hours of Islamic instruction daily.

For the record, my place and my office are lighted by CFL's. As the building is metered on one meter I cannot tell you the exact savings. As I have had conventional fluorescent bulbs at home and workplaces for years, and yes have had broken bulbs, I highly suspect the danger of a broken CFL to be Highly Exaggerated. As to the power of Congress to regulate lightbulbs - THINK COMMERCE CLAUSE - as currently interpreted.
As to the "Made in China" only aspect, I suspect that will change with Vietnam as one of several alternate sources.
What gets me angry is the sound-bite of OBAMA on ABC Radio talking about 100mpg cars as being technically feasible and their absence only due to "lack of leadership." In the words of the Great Bugs Bunny - WHAT A MAROON! Not only will OBAMA heal the sick, provide jobs, feed the hungry, and clothe the naked - he will go beyond the Presidential Veto Power AND REPEAL THE LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS!

"ab" -
The Hungarians have been in the lightbulb business here in the US for about 20 years - were they incandescent or CFL.

Another thought - realize that OBAMA can easily get his mileage figure by doing it the "Common Carrier Way" - seat miles/per gallon - as in take my Focus, averaging about 25 mpg combined X 5 Passengers = 125 "smpg" right now. For good measure, he can also get the price of gas to the approximate $1 level - just sell it by the liter.

There seems to be too much storm and fury here over Obama's mass appeal. He certainly is a "uniter". His problem will unfortunately be who he is uniting under his Messianic banner.

Obama's "folks" will make "typical" white people ( and actually reasonable people of all backgrounds ) very, very uneasy, and Barry, remember, is pretty much an unproven and unknown item.

As a result a Republican Presidential candidate which should have no chance to get elected this year, has a much better chance.

They are posting babies? Instead of comments, or along with them?

I work in the woods, we occasionally get a laugh out of "greenhorns" looking for a nice, tender pile of leaves and using these things. Sore butts for a month and a zillion tiny poisonous needles.

The tree huggers want you to pack it out now in some wilderness areas. I don't get the idea cause "it" is biodegradable. I like the woods as much as anybody but I am not packing out my doo-doo.

re: #166 abolitionist

Check the label for a voltage rating. If it's 230v, you can expect those to last indefinitely in the US. Downside is they'll put out significantly less light than others designed for 115v or so. World Electricity Standards

Need a 75W bulb @ 115VAC then get the 150W bulb @ 230. You are correct that they will last forever. I know an electrician who had a client (elderly woman) who complained about having to constantly replace the bulb in her china cabinet. Told him to put a diode in series with the lamp, put in 2x Wattage, and he would never get another call from her. It worked. Also later got me a job I wish I had never had.

OT: re: #193 Perplexed

I've done that diode thing too. Got tired of replacing a heat lamp.

The info at the page I linked may be fine (World Electricity Standards - almost certainly plagerized), but the rest of the site is kinda nutty, for example: Water Vortex Magnetizer

And via a redirect, Advanced Bio-Photon Analyzer Matrix 3

ONLY SUBTLE ENERGY INSTRUMENT ON THE MARKET THAT . . .

* Offers simple operation by setting two or three switches
* Allows you to make antidotes to any substance by placing the known toxin (such as chemtrail particles collected on a coffee filter) into the Substance Well, and then creating the antidote in a small vial of spring water placed in the Solution Well

That'll learn me to check out sites I link to. Maybe. Hope CJ will forgive me if I screw up occasionally.

Here is what the left is saying about the comments their people post on Obama's site.

Steve @ 1:

And fourth, nothing prevents conservatives from posting offensive material on liberal blogs, and then reporting their findings.

Amen, brother, that’s exactly what I was thinking. I have little doubt that RWNJs (Right Wing Nut Jobs) post their own hateful crap on Obama’s site (and others) so they could turn around and make an issue of it. Those pathetic creeps have nothing affirmative with which to prop up their own terribly flawed candidate and their vacuous GOP ideological bullshit, so they gotta resort to setting up straw man arguments to distract the public. They just can’t bear to see their treasured ideologies and stupid, narrow worldviews go up in the smoke of W’s miserable failures.

A tiny little bit of doubt would be in order here. Maybe, just maybe, it's not a case of post and grab? Maybe the offensive post has been up there in plain view for weeks or months, which sort of torpedoes the idea that conservatives snuck it in and then screengrabbed it quick before anybody could notice.

There's also the matter of style. How many conservatives are fluent with all the little ways that liberals signal their contempt for conservatives? How many would know that it "rings true" to a liberal, to speak of stupid, narrow worldviews when referring to conservatives.

This sort of corrosive hatred is bad for the country, gentle reader. This sort of readiness to believe the worst of the other side is bad for the country. We are in this country together, and we have enemies whose dream is to hit us with nukes. We need to accept that internal politics is not the only measure of winning and losing.

re: #4 Jetpilot1101

It's because they are enabled by both the MSM/Universities and the tendency of people to be hardwired into not really want to change how they perceive the world, i.e. politics/religion tends to be ingrained in the brain from years/decades of thought patterns and takes near literal (mental anyhow) dynamite for someone to change their minds about it. That's a large part of how the extreme left has crept into and taken over the democrack party over the decades, very much like a frog in the soupwater who doesn't realize or want to know the temperature is changing in a bad way... some leetle froggies will succumb to the heat while a very few will realize it and jump for it... In the obamasama's case though the cook has turned the heat up a bit to much to quickly for many and there are a lot of dems looking around and saying wtf happened to the party etc...
