Democratic Delegate Stuns Party, Shuns Obama

Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 2:34:01 pm PDT

A Democratic delegate from Wisconsin is about to find out what happens to apostates from the party.

Washington - As an avid supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Debra Bartoshevich is not alone in her frustration over Clinton’s defeat.

And she’s not entirely alone in saying she’ll vote this fall for Republican John McCain instead.

But what makes her unusual is that she holds these views as an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer.

“I’m sure people are going to be upset with me,” said Bartoshevich, a 41-year-old emergency room nurse from Waterford in Racine County, and convention delegate pledged to Clinton.

Joe Wineke, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, reacted with disbelief when first told Friday afternoon that one of his state party delegates is now a McCain supporter. “Not a delegate? To the national convention?” said Wineke, who was getting ready for the start of the Wisconsin state party convention Friday in Stevens Point.

“We have a Clinton national (convention) delegate who says she’s voting for John McCain?” Wineke repeated, for clarification. “I’ve never heard of such a thing.”

Wineke said “almost everybody I know who was for Hillary” is solidly behind Obama now. As for Bartoshevich, he said, “my suspicion is she doesn’t know what she’s getting into” because “the delegates to this convention will be very upset.”

UPDATE at 6/15/08 2:39:21 pm:

Now you see her, now you don’t: Delegate Stripped of Position After Pledging to Vote Republican.

The Wisconsin Democratic Party has stripped a woman of her position as delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

That’s after she told a newspaper she would vote for Republican Senator John McCain for President in November.

Last night in Stevens Point, state party members held a unanimous vote to strip Debra Bartoshevich of her delegate status and appoint an alternate for the Denver Convention.

Reminds me of an ancient Israeli joke, which I will "translate":

One morning, Davey comes to school and excitedly tells: "Teacher! Our dog had six Democrat puppies!"

The (public school) teacher wants to capitalize on this and arranges for the principal to visit the class next day.

Next morning, the principal comes into the classroom. A beaming teacher says: "Davey, tell Mr. Principal what great news you told us yesterday!"

"Mr. Principal, our dog had six Republican puppies!"

"WHAT? Yesterday you told me they were Democrats?"

"Yes, but meanwhile they opened their eyes."

I have seen the dynamic work with crowds, hell, I've instigated it a few times myself.

One person stands up and tells the heard that they are full of bull. This person gives cover to others who have had doubts, but did not want to be alone in expressing them. Another will get up and speak, then another, and another, and the flood gates open up.

Whereas if no one had voiced the first complaint, all of the other doubters would have just sat there like sheep, afraid to be the first to say "no."

re: #7 Sharmuta

Here's hoping you have to get used to it!

I suspect he might have to. After a good, long look at the Obameister's agenda, there might be other Clinton supporters, not to mention mainstream Democrats, who might decide to simply tell the DNC, "We quit".

Even if they don't go out and work for, or even vote for, McCain, if they stay home on Election Day, it cuts into Obama's margin, which is razor-thin to begin with. He can't afford to lose anybody, because he's already done nearly as good a job of alienating half the potential electorate in the last three months as the Hildebeast has managed to do in sixteen years of being in our faces 24/7.

According to the AP poll last week, here in OH, Obama beats McCain 49% to 43%. Which sounds great, until they admit that the error factor in the poll is +/- 9%.

Translation;

"We have no f**king idea what will happen, but we have to make it sound like the Chosen One- our Chosen One- is undefeatable, in the hopes that all you stupid Buckeye rednecks outside of Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati will stay home on Election Day- because if you show up at the polls, he doesn't carry Ohio, and McCain will probably win the election. And we just can't have that, can we?"

Figures are apparently similar in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Florida. Senator Oh! runs strongly in "elite" circles in urban areas and college campuses, and elsewhere- he doesn't even succeed in walking.
He's the ultimate "niche" candidate- supporting him is sort of a Rorschach test of how "sensitive" and "sophisticated" you are.

Oh, yes, I support Obama. It's just one of those things you know is right- like which fork to use at a formal dinner.

Funny thing- that's exactly how Adlai Stevenson Jr. lost the Presidency. Twice.

The only guy it ever worked for was JFK. And Obama is no JFK.

This election is going to be a lot closer than anyone imagines. One more good reason to get out and vote.

cheers

This was posted today by that scumbag Lawrence Auster:

Let's put it this way. Johnson and his followers have virtually zero conservative background and formation. Their "conservatism" consists in wanting to defend America from radical Islam and terrorism. But because the left in today's America does not believe in defending America from terrorism, a person who does believe in it is considered a "conservative." It's the one-drop rule of conservatism. Just as, in a white majority society, a person with even a tiny amount of identifiable Negro features is a Negro, in the same way, in a liberal-ruled society, a person with even one conservative position is a conservative, even though he's liberal in every other respect.

The Democratic Party is accelerating its transformation into a pure socialist party that begun in 1968.

During that period they only managed to get Carter and Clinton elected. Carter was a one-term president, probably the worst in American history.

Bill Clinton ran as a "New Democrat" who was going to end big government. He was barely tolerated by the party base and only managed to squeeze into the White House thanks to Ross Perot splitting the vote.

Obama still looks set to win the presidency, because the general public believes the Democratic party is still the same liberal party of Roosevelt, Truman, JFK and Johnson. Big media is framing Obama as a new JFK.*

Hopefully this defection is a sign people are starting to wake up.

*JFK was a lousy president as well imho.

When I turned 18, my mother (God rest her soul) told me, "I don't care which party you join, or if you register as an independent. Just so long as you vote."

So, I looked all th options over, keeping in mind that she had been a Democrat from her first registration (age 21, in 1934) until 1952, when she changed to the GOP after realizing that, as she put it, "nothing Stevenson said in any of his speeches made the slightest bit of sense". And then I went to the Board of Elections, registered, came back, and told her, "I registered as a Republican, and it's your fault."

She nodded, and said, "OK, how?"

"I didn't register as a Democrat because you taught me never to get mixed up with anybody weirder than I am."

I am still a Republican today, for this very reason.

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that In contrast, John McCain's 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride."

Seriously, has anyone done an analysis on where specifcally all the oil is going rather than wave an arm and say "it is 'industry' in the BRIC countries. Perhaps it is futures, paper barrels, and will be the tulip craze all over again.
/admitting that I may not know squat on these things, but these backward countries are buying up oil to do what with it?

WhiteRasta, I'm curious.

I'm 39, and when I was younger, (really, my teens) saw the world with rose-colored glasses.

Went in the military at 20, and pretty much thought about quite a few things, and realized I was a conservative at heart.

On 911, what changed inside for you?

Was it along the lines of having that day culminate? My perception of most self identified liberals, terrorism was out there, but we put some fat, blind santa-hat in jail, and that was terrorism policy.

In a sense, what part of your non-republicanism changed?

Why would anyone be surprised?

"Call it Lieberman's version of tough love.

The Connecticut lawmaker is willing to speak at the Republican convention this summer if McCain asks. He also has been mentioned as a potential McCain running mate.

Democrats have reason to tolerate Lieberman's actions. If he were to caucus with the GOP, the balance of power in the narrowly divided Senate would slip away, especially with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., battling brain cancer. Democrats need Lieberman to maintain their 51-49 Senate majority.

Beyond Iraq, Lieberman tends to vote with Democrats on major issues.

"Joe and I have known each other 40 years," said Dodd. "On almost every issue, Joe is a mainstream Democrat."

There is speculation that if Democrats bolster their Senate majority this fall, they could seek payback by stripping Lieberman of his Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairmanship.

While there's no serious talk afoot about punishing Lieberman, Kerry said, "I can't tell you what happens next year."

Under the bus Joe....

re: #162 BBev

WOW you must be really wearied see what we have to vote for on the right!

I'm about as far "right" as Reagan. Most "social issues" other than self-defense and drug use I consider irrelevant. On the former issue, I believe common sense states that if someone tries to hurt me without just cause, I'm permitted to stop them; if they get hurt in the process, tough. On the latter issue, if someone wants to fry their brain, I say go for it, but if they commit a crime in the process or while under the influence, I don't want them to be allowed to claim "extenuating circumstances". If a drugged driver hits and kills someone, they should be charged with manslaughter, and preferably get it bumped to Murder Two, whether they were flying on crack, pot , or Jim Beam. I don't care- in either case, if someone acts stupid, they should pay; period.

I personally don't care if they have "prayer in schools" or not, and I think "intelligent design" should be taught in divinity school, not public school. (As Dr. Jones once said about archeology, science is a search for facts, not "truth"- if you want to look for truth, study for the clergy or go for a Ph.D in philosophy.)

My attitude toward both abortion and capital punishment was summed up by Clint Eastwood in High Plains Drifter; regarding bushwhacking the three gunnies who were coming to take revenge the town he said, "You do it- and then, you live with it."

My principle complaint with "progressives" is that, like the "far right", they make far too many decisions based on dogma, as opposed to a rational assessment of reality- what the old Red Army used to call "objective conditions". (Yes, I have read Ayn Rand, and generally agree with her on most subjects.) The difference is, when the "far right" claims "scientific" authority for their beliefs, most people tend to look at them with a (deservedly) jaundiced eye. When "progressives" do it, the people (the media, academia, etc.) who should be closely examining their premises don't bother- because they agree with their aims, or simply don't want to be "swimming against the current".

"It just feels right" is never a good enough reason to do anything, in my opinion. But all too often, it's the only reason progressives have for everything they want to do. As for the "right", claiming "divine inspiration" or a "sign from on high" cuts no ice with me, either. Like a Lensman, my motto is, "Prove it!"

And as for the principle of "first of all, do no harm", both lots seem to be disappointed if they can't hurt somebody. And this seems to be how they gauge their own degree of "righteousness".

The two extremes are more similar than I think either of them realize.

And to paraphrase H. Beam Piper's Lord Kalvan, none of their gods are very good gods, and I worship none of them. (Like Captain Kirk, I find one quite sufficient.)

/and both sides probably wouldn't like my conception of Him, either

cheers

There's lots of disillusionment in MA right now due to the "change" governor Deval Patrick (one of the messiah's buddies). My brother has traveled to Toledo, Detroit and Cincinnati over the past two weeks and he says people there aren't voting messiah either. He was really surprised about Detroit. If McCain puts Romney on the ticket I think he can take MI, CO, and NV and possibly even NM. There's lots of disillusionment in MA right now due to the "change" governor Deval Patrick (one of the messiah's buddies). People are very unhappy with him as governor and with Mitt on the ticket McCain might even sway them in MA. Mitt is well liked in MA and NH by clear thinking Americans. Mitt got 51% of the Republican vote in MA.

Mit hase to be his choise, He has the business sense to keep America on a strong Capitalist tract.

I can say, I really disagree with the Democratic party, on some things with them, almost hatred.

There is an old country song, the city put the country back in me.

I don't care for most big cities anymore. It's funny, because I was born in a big city, lived in, and then near a big city, and now in the country.

I miss what the "old" big city was like. Working class folks, sweeping their little piece of sidewalk in front of their row home. Taking pride in what you have. Real community, not politicians using it as a slogan.

I have been to New York. Great one day trip, but not my cup of tea, and most of the folks to me are out of touch with the rest of the country.

I can say, with any doubt, on 911, none of that existed. Knowing the metro-sexual guy who I have nothing in common with, in a split second, knew his life was going to end, became my brother. The sex in the city girl who I could never ever date, became my sister.

There was no divide for me that day. They attacked my extended family. They attacked my country. They attacked the graves at Normandy, and the tombstones at Arlington.

They attacked, without mercy, my brothers and sisters, and their children.

On that day, not a republican, nor democrat existed in my world.

I was a Girl Scout and liked to collect those merit badges. I too am a conservative. My Dad was a politician - ran as a Republican in MA. He won local elections but lost his bid for a State Rep seat. Hey - he wasn't a Dem and he wasn't Irish. Two strikes against him in MA.

I ran in local politics here in NH, but was smeared by lefties who opposed my stance on illegal immigration. I wanted them all deported and was accused of being mean.

Keep up the good fight. They need you up there!

That day on September 11, 2001 I was laying out silt fence for a new apartment building it was no land that I owned so I had a TV in my house that I had kept on. I went inside to get some cold water for the guys and I saw the first news of the first strike so I sat down to see what was going on. I live in the north east so I knew the sky was very blue that day and thought to myself “well it was a freak thing”. Just then as we all saw, the second plain hit and at that point I knew we were at war a war that I saw coming for many years. So many can say that GWB has not been a good President but to me he has been one of the finest President we could have asked for in this time and place. I would vote for him again if I could.

Make an extremely tough decision, with the potential for massive consequence.

This is stunning, but not for the reasons that you may believe:

"Let's put it this way. Just as, in a white majority society, a person with even a tiny amount of identifiable Negro features is a Negro, in the same way, in a liberal-ruled society, a person with even one conservative position is a conservative, even though he's liberal in every other respect."

Isn't the one drop rule what the liberals and the media have been using on the Obamanation. He has six and one half drops of African Negro blood according to his father's birth certificate. He has 43.5 drops of arab blood and fifty drops of caucasian blood yet the dems and liberals call him the African American candidate for president, the one drop racist white majority rule above, but when conservatives and repubs question his african american (i.e. black) status and highlight his arab status or white status THE CONSERVATIVES are called Racist, but the people using the one percent categorizing are called saints and progressives!

re: #119 Peter Verkooijen

"Diplomacy is simply formalized lying in formal wear without the threat of violence accompanying it. I don't think a single world leader contemplating an Obama Presidency thinks he would use military force against them. That is a huge and in my mind insurmountable barrier that should preclude him from being President. Let's hope the rest of America gets over it's school girl crush and realizes that a lightweight is the wrong weight class to represent the United States of America."

HIS FATHER WAS A BLACK AFRICAN MUSLIM FROM KENYA .

WE HAVE SEEN PICTURES OF HIS AFRICAN FAMILY.

HIS MOTHER WAS A WHITE AMERICAN ATHEIST FROM KANSAS .

WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF HIS AMERICAN FAMILY?

HIS FATHER DESERTED HIS MOTHER WHEN HE WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD AND WENT BACK TO AFRICA BY WAY OF HARVARD UNIVERSITY . HOW? WAS HIS FATHER WEALTHY?

HIS MOTHER MARRIED AN INDONESIAN MUSLIM AND THEN MOVED TO JAKARTA WHERE HE WAS ENROLLED IN A MUSLIM SCHOOL .

WHEN HE REACHED HIGH SCHOOL AGE HIS MOTHER SENT HIM TO HAWAII TO BE WITH HIS WHITE GRANDPARENTS AND HE WAS PUT INTO AN EXPENSIVE PRIVATE SCHOOL. HE LATER WENT TO HARVARD UNIVERSITY . HOW? WERE HIS GRANDPARENTS RICH?

HE LIVES IN A $1.4 MILLION HOUSE OBTAINED THROUGH A DEAL WITH A WEALTHY FUNDRAISER. HOW?

HE "WORKED" AS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST IN CHICAGO . HE HAS NEVER HELD A PRODUCTIVE JOB OR RECEIVED A PAY CHECK THAT WAS NOT GOVERNMENT-FUNDED AND/OR TAYPAYER SUPPORTED.

THE PRESIDENCY IS NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS POSITION, NOR IS IT SUBJECT TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION SET ASIDES; ON-THE-JOB TRAINING WON'T CUT IT.

HE ENTERED POLITICS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN THE NATIONAL LEVEL WHERE HE HAS MINIMAL EXPERIENCE.

HE IS PROUD OF HIS "AFRICAN HERITAGE" (A FATHER WHO GOT A WHITE GIRL PREGNANT AND DESERTED HER).

WHERE IS THE PRIDE IN HIS "WHITE HERITAGE"? (A MOTHER WHO FLAUNTED CONVENTION AND DID NOT BELIEVE IN GOD).

SOME MIGHT THINK THERE WAS NOT MUCH TO BE PROUD OF EITHER WAY.

HE BELONGS, AND HAS BELONGED FOR OVER 20 YEARS, TO AN "AFRO-CENTRIC" CHURCH IN CHICAGO THAT HATES WHITES, HATES JEWS, AND BLAMES AMERICA FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PERCEIVED FAULTS. (INCLUDING CREATING THE AIDs VIRUS IN ORDER TO INFLICT IT ON AFRICANS).

HE REPEATEDLY WHITEWASHES THE PASTOR, HIS CHURCH AND THE MEMBERS WHO CHEERED AFTER HEARING VITRIOLIC TIRADES AGAINST AMERICA .

HE COULD NOT CONFRONT HIS PASTOR BUT HE WANTS US TO BELIEVE HE CAN CONFRONT NORTH KOREA AND IRAN ?

YEAH RIGHT ! !

DURING HIS VERY BRIEF TIME IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE HE HAS MANAGED TO AMASS THE NUMBER ONE ULTRA LIBERAL VOTING RECORD OUT OF THE ONE HUNDRED MEMBERS.

HE HAS VOTED CONSISTENTLY FOR BIGGER GOVERNMENT AND HIGHER TAXES. HE HAS VOTED FOR BIG ENTITLEMENTS AND LEGISLATION THAT WOULD SEVERELY CURTAIL AMERICA 'S ABILITY TO FIGHT TERRORISM AND TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS AND OUR NATIONAL INTERESTS AROUND THE WORLD.

BUT, HE IS A GOOD ORATOR. ISN'T THAT A COMFORT?

YEAH, I THINK I SEE HOW WELL HE COULD UNITE THE COUNTRY.

I THINK THE TRUTH IS THAT HE HOPES NO ONE WILL PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR NEW CHIEF PILOT HE HAS NEVER FLOWN AN AIRPLANE, IN FACT, HE HAS NEVER EVEN SAT IN THE COCKPIT, BUT HE SAYS HE HAS RIDDEN ON PLANES BEFORE. WE ARE SURE HE WILL GUIDE US SAFELY THROUGH THE STORMS WE MAY ENCOUNTER ON THIS FLIGHT.

PEOPLE, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD THE STORY ABOUT THE WOLF HIDING IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING SO HE CAN DESTROY THEM FROM WITH-IN ? THE HAND WRITING IS ON THE WALL, DO YOU NOT HAVE EYES TO SEE IT ?

THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR THIS GUY!

Choosing to vote for Obama does not involve thought. It requires rationalization. This is what Liberals substitute for thought.

No, just requires lack of thought. "Seemed like the thing to do at the time."

I had moments like that. Luckily the cops were elsewhere and there were no witnesses.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THE MORE CAPS-LOCKED COMMUNICATIONS ARE, THE LESS CONVINCING THEY ARE.

AND SO WHOEVER IS CIRCULATING THIS IN THIS FORMAT IS DOING HIS CAUSE A DISSERVICE.

To be fair, it came to my inbox in another font. I just didn't take the time to convert it--that's my fault. I did think it raised some interesting points, though.

Yes, it did. Unfortunately the people who have fallen under Obama's spell will not research them and dismiss them as "racist, right wing...you know the drill...propaganda.

Obama is shooting himself in the foot on a continual basis, but his halo has yet to be knocked askew.

I predict (pray for) a major gaffe that even the Moonbats can't ignore.

Gitcher spare buses right down in N'awlins!

And since they're all non-operational thanks to the incredible incompetence of Ray Nagin, perhaps Obama can tow them over the discards with his bike hitch.

Sorry for the all-caps, but I got this as an email from a friend:

DO I HAVE THIS STRAIGHT? --

Of course the Democrats did the right thing here. The woman wasn't thrown in jail. She didn't lose her job or her home. They took away her party privilege for betraying her party. Duh!

If the Republicans had a similar traitor, and they did NOT strip him as well, I would consider them feckless, spineless idiots who would never deserve to ever win another election. Kinda like the way I always view Democrat candidates.

Suppose you formed a neighborhood group to oust a mayor you viewed as corrupt, and a few months in, at one of your meetings, one neighbor said, "I don't like the reform candidate you all just chose. You idiots. You know mine was the better choice. So just to let you know, I'm going to vote for the current mayor. So There! Screw all of you!"

Furthermore, suppose that that's not just a group, but the actual Leadership committee, setting strategies and directing money, controlling volunteers, giving speeches. How in the world could you let such a person hang around and be privy to the inside scene?

Um, so go ahead, and tell me that that neighbor SHOULD be invited back to your next 'Recall The Corrupt Mayor' meeting?

Remember, to the left dissent is patriotic, as long as you oppose what they want you to oppose.

350 Wondering Aloud  Sun, Jun 15, 2008 10:14:37pm

This is absolutely typical and no surprise. The American Fascist Party in action. Everything dictated from above, no dissent aloud, can you imagine the bird that would be had by the media and the Dem's if a Republican delegate was treated this way?

When I was vice chairman of the democratic party in my congressional district back in 1980 I proudly pulled the straight Republican lever. I knew all the bozos running from top to bottom and I wouldn't trust any one of them with any position of responsibility. Some things seem not to change so much after all, and Barrack looks a lot like Jimmy to me.

351 Flavia  Mon, Jun 16, 2008 12:25:30am

My problem with this woman is that delegates are supposed to vote for whom the voters tell them to vote. Unless she's a uncommitted delegate. Then the party has to take its lumps. & since they went out of their way to make sure they'd have the less electable MALE on the ballot, they will take the lumps doled out to them by WOMEN delegates who didn't like that!

I was a moderate until the 2nd Clinton term. Then 9/11 pushed me completely into the conservative camp.
