Jawdropper of the Week: Islamic Saudi Academy Will Stay Open

Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 3:40:45 pm PDT

They’re teaching children to hate and kill Jews and Christians.

A former school valedictorian, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, was convicted of joining Al Qaeda and plotting to assassinate President Bush.

And they’ve been spreading this radical Islamic ideology in the US for decades.

But the State Department has no plans to close the Islamic Saudi Academy in Fairfax, Virginia.

Because they promised to change their textbooks.

State Department officials said Thursday they have no plans to close a Saudi-financed Islamic school in Northern Virginia that has failed to eliminate violent and intolerant language in textbooks.

“They told us they would revise the textbooks by the 2008 school year,” State Department spokesman Rob McInturff said. “We don’t plan to take additional action apart from the discussions that have been going on with the Saudi government.”

Results released Wednesday from a federal investigation into the Islamic Saudi Academy - with campuses in Alexandria and Fairfax - found textbooks at the 900-student private school had passages that blame the Jews for “discord” and say it is sometimes permissible to kill non-Muslims.

The investigation by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom focused on 17 textbooks used during the last school year and obtained from independent sources. The panel, formed by Congress, last year recommended the State Department close the school, though members had not yet reviewed the textbooks. The commission said the Foreign Missions Act gives the Secretary of State authority to “require a foreign mission to divest itself of or forgo the use of property and to order it to close.”

State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos on Thursday cited the Saudi government’s 2006 acknowledgement of a need to revise its textbooks and agreement to do so “in time for the start of the 2008 school year,” which starts this fall.

What do they plan on doing, then?

State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos on Thursday cited the Saudi government’s 2006 acknowledgement of a need to revise its textbooks and agreement to do so “in time for the start of the 2008 school year,” which starts this fall.

The new, improved version will state "This November will see the fulfillment of B. Hussein Obama assuming the mantle of Presidency of the Great Satan, Allah willing."

Mad For Madrassas

The Post went on to quote several students who say they are taught in Islamic studies that "it is better to shun and even to dislike Christians, Jews and Shiite Muslims." One teen told the paper he's taught by academy teachers that it's OK for Muslims to hurt or steal from such "kafirs."

This was the steady diet of hate the Saudi academy fed Ahmed Abu Ali, who joined al-Qaida after graduating and plotted to kill President Bush. Lest anyone think Ali was a misfit loner, he graduated valedictorian and was voted as the "Most Likely to Be a Martyr."

/what's the problem?

DOES ANYONE NOTICE A PATTERN FORMING HERE?!?
from the London Evening Standard, 2007

We do use books that call Jews 'apes' admits head of Islamic school

The principal of an Islamic school has admitted that it uses textbooks which describe Jews as "apes" and Christians as "pigs" and has refused to withdraw them.

Dr Sumaya Alyusuf confirmed that the offending books exist after former teacher Colin Cook, 57, alleged that children as young as five are taught from racist materials at the King Fahd Academy in Acton.

In an interview on BBC2's Newsnight, Dr Alyusuf was asked by Jeremy Paxman whether she recognised the books.

She said: "Yes, I do recognise these books, of course. We have these books in our school. These books have good chapters that can be used by the teachers. It depends on the objectives the teacher wants to achieve."

In another exchange, Dr Alyusuf insisted the books should not be scrapped, saying that allegedly racist sections had been "misinterpreted".

The school is owned, funded and run by the government of Saudi Arabia. Mr Paxman asked: "Will you now remove this nonsense from the Saudi Ministry of Education from your school?"

Dr Alyusuf replied: "Just to reiterate what I said earlier, there are chapters from these books that are used and that will serve our objectives. But we don't teach hatred towards Judaism or Christianity - on the contrary."

During the programme Louise Ellman, MP for Liverpool Riverside and chairman of the Jewish Labour Movement, accused the school of inciting racial hatred and hit out at Ofsted inspectors for failing to discover the textbooks. She said: "This whole situation is unacceptable. It is incitement. It is part of a deliberate Saudi initiative to install Wahabbism extremism among Muslims and in the rest of society. If Ofsted has not drawn attention to this, that is a failing of Ofsted.

"It is unacceptable and we should look to see if this is happening in other schools as well. This is about teaching children. I think the school should take immediate action and so should the regulatory authorities."

In his employment tribunal claim Mr Cook, who taught English at the school for 19 years, has accused it of poisoning pupils' minds with a curriculum of hate. Arabic translators have found that the books also describe Jews as "repugnant".

Dr Alyusuf initially claimed that the books were "not taught currently", saying: "We teach a different curriculum. We teach an international curriculum."

Asked by Mr Paxman, "Would you discipline any teacher who has used these teaching materials?", she replied: "Of course I would."

The principal, who has been in the post just under six months, also claimed: "I monitor what is taught in the classrooms. I have developed the curriculum myself."

Asked by Mr Paxman whether she agreed with the suggestion in teaching materials that non-believers in Islam are condemned to "hellfire", she said: "We don't teach that. We teach Islam and it is important for our students to assert their identity."

Mr Cook, of Feltham, was earning £35,000 a year and is seeking £100,000 in compensation. In legal papers submitted to a Watford employment tribunal, he alleged that pupils as young as five are taught that religions including Christianity and Judaism are "worthless". He also alleges that when he questioned whether the curriculum complied with British laws, he was told: "This is not England. It is Saudi Arabia".

Pupils have allegedly been heard saying they want to "kill Americans", praising 9/11 and idolising Osama bin Laden as their "hero".

The show generally takes the libertarian angle on things. I occasionally agree with their viewpoint (not that their viewpoint matters much), but it can be infuriating mix of far right/far left views...they made Victor Davis Hanson look like a fascist in their "Patriotism" show.

They'll just have two sets of textbooks, one to show the gullible infidels who are desperate to believe the best about everyone, the other set the one they really teach from.

I can just see the meetings they had about this:

"I propose we fund a school on American soil where we teach kids to hate and wish to kill Jews and Christians and replace the American Constitutiion with Shari'a law. We'll keep the American government in line by threatening to reduce oil production."

"Don't be absurd! No country is THAT stupid and self-destructive. Americans will never accept it."

"Well, look. It's only a few million dollars. If the plan bombs, I'll give you two oil wells, five of my prized camels, and ten very beautiful goats."

Check out the curriculum for the "new" high school and international baccalaureate programs. My son is a graduate of the school (in the 80's) and the education he received there was outstanding.

While the state department continues to commit the US towards national suicide perhaps the Virginians could take up the issue with that school and shut it down themselves?

How can Virginia shut down a private school?

Now, the school in Fairfax County is on land leased to them by the county. The lease was just renewed .....last week, I think......by the board of supervisors.
The people in Fairfax County obviously don't have a clue or don't give a damn, because I haven't heard much protest coming from them.

I am increasingly convinced that a disturbing number of people in our government--some elected, some in the civil service--agree with the Muslim "Jews are apes and pigs" line, and are secretly grateful that the Muslims are willing to step up and say it for them. In the case of the elected officials who do not get a secret thrill from Muslims saying what they dare not say, they are afraid of alienating some portion of the electorate which is in sympathy with such statements, and, showing the rubber backbone for which elected officials are famous, remain silent and permit the rot to spread.

I like to think, on the evidence of the posters here, that such attitudes do not reflect the electorate as a whole--but the Obamaphenomenon, and sites like HuffPo, make me wonder.

obviously this jihad school should be shut down. in fact these teacher/terrorists should be arrested. and since that is not happening, i can fully understand what you are saying.
imagine if this was christian school "teaching" that moslems are pigs and apes and 7th century barbarians who are trying to destroy our civilization and have a manual called the koran from which they derive their ghoulish plans for murder. imagine how long that school would last. and how busy the ct. system would be not to mention the hrc. prosecuting christians for that kind of curriculum.

Bystander (#101) is showing up as "blocked," but this offensive comment should be deleted as well.

There's no question that we're being played for fools by the Saudis. They have spent billions of dollars over decades in order to export their hateful form of "religion" by building and staffing mosques and madrassas and funding Near Eastern Studies departments in universities all over the world. They are responsible for the upsurge in Muslim aggression and subversion from within Western societies. It's as if the Nazis had funded a network of private schools and "churches" all over the world teaching the hateful, racist myth of Aryan supremacy prior to WWII. When the hell are we going to wise up?

I don't know that it's a matter of wising up. Plenty of people are shocked by this decision. Our problem comes from the powers-that-be who decide for the rest of us that they are not going to act and will continue to allow this in our country.

Is it so surprising that the State Department won't shut down this school?

Out of all of the parts of our federal government, the State Department is the one that most closely mirrors the beliefs and "wisdom" of the elite college faculties of this nation. The ties between the grad programs and State are deeper than any other government department I can think of, and the two institutions exchange members like you or I change sock. Between visiting professorships and continuing education, most State employees see the inside of the hallowed halls of Harvard more than they see their own kids.

If you want to know what a government by the educated elites will look like, what they will profess, and what they will do, look no further than State. That is government by today's "best and brightest"... and the rights, freedoms, wants, and desires of us regular folk are ignored at best, and mocked at worst.

With his education background, his party affiliation, and his elitist attitudes, State is what the entire government will look like under an Obama presidency. Where are "the first hundred names in the Boston phone book" when we need them?

267 TS  Sun, Jun 15, 2008 9:07:26pm

We'd probably get another 9/11 or something similiar if they closed it down.

Because as you all probably know to create ANY sort of barrier to the spread of Islam and with it Islamic domination (as the two are one and the same) is considered an act of war.

And therefore Islamists would see an attack on us (America) as a defensive act to our 'warring with Allah' by closing the school and blocking the furtherance of Islam.

Noooo bitching and complaining in this forum is not an acceptable solution, and we ALL in our heart of hearts know that.

So i put it to all and sundry. WHAT are you lot.... THE PEOPLE going to do about it?

re: #173 republic

Just remember folks, somewhere ,very nearby every Lizard here, is a mosque preaching hatred and murder to infidels.

They are preaching things that would get any other American jailed for years.

There is no such thing as a "moderate" Muslim, there is only the hatred and murder that is taught in all of islam.

That is close-minded and inaccurate. The Wahhabi sect of Islam bears as much relation to modern mainstream Islam as abortion-clinic bombers have to mainstream Christianity. That being said, this sect, which was originally a small Islamic cult, includes many extremely wealthy members who have paid to set up schools around the world. These wealthy Wahhabists include distant members of the Saudi Royal Family, as well as other prominent and powerful figures in many Arab governments. As a result, Wahhabism has been growing rapidly for many years, spreading hatred and a desire to dominate the world under sharia. However, to accuse all of Islam of the hatred that Wahhabism spreads is both morally wrong and counter-productive. It only fuels the mistaken belief that opposing terrorism is an attempt to eradicate one of the world's major religions.

P.S. Before anyone flames me about the spelling of Wahhabi, the word is in Arabic, and there are many possible transliterations. I've just used a common English spelling.

I can't agree with you ottapooka. Unfortunately you are part of the Islamist problem!

Unless and until folks like your good self finally take off the rose coloured glasses and admit that 'radical Islam' is not the only problem but that the very philosophy that underpins mainstream Islam is the elephant in the room.

I know...I know... that terrifies you. But once you admit to yourself that it's the philosophical roots of Islam that is the underlying problem then one can begin to move on to formulating policies and plans to counter this fascism.

Putting band-aids over the running sore that is Islam and trying to make excuses for this philosophy by casting about for radical variants of this creed is NOT the answer. Islam is like an invasive weed that needs to be either totally isolated or pulled from the ground branch and root and cast into the flames. Offering non practicing (so called secular) muslims the option of apostasy and protection of the western world and isolation for those practicing this fascist creed appears to be the only methodology to prevent its spread and the corruption of the west by its fascist tenets.

Anything less is just asking to get 'surprised' again and again by this pernicious philosophy dressed up as a religion.

283 otterpooka  Mon, Jun 16, 2008 9:35:16pm

re: #282 Aussie Infidel

I appreciate your disagreement, however I do not appreciate the condescending tone of your reply. I had Muslim classmates when I was in college, worked with Muslims in my former civilian career, and have served with others since enlisting in the U.S. Navy following 9/11. I have been to the Middle East in the service of my country, and been treated as well there as I have in anywhere in the world.

I am all too aware of terrorist activities and the madrassas that teach hatred. However to paint this as the whole of Islam only insults and offends millions of peaceful Muslims who just want to get on with their lives. Statements such as yours only give support to those who preach that the West is out to destroy all of Islam. You add fuel to the fire of terrorism that I and all other servicemembers are fighting. It is easy to imagine an Al-Queda imam quoting your statement, "Islam is like an invasive weed that needs to be either totally isolated or pulled from the ground branch and root and cast into the flames." Comments such as yours only make a bad problem worse.

I am aware that there are elements in the Koran that these hatemongers base their beliefs on, I've read them in translation. ( I don't know Arabic.) But, there are also elements in the Bible that can be used to promote violence as well. Have you read Leviticus, for example? As a Christian, I am aware of the elements of my Holy Book which are not compatible with modern Christian philosophy, but I understand the context in which they were written. Credit the Islamic people of the world with the same basic intelligence.

Think about it. Estimates range from 1 to 1.8 BILLION Muslims in the world. Even if you take the lowball estimate, if they were all committed to bringing the world under sharia law, they'd have done it by now. If you claim that even 10% of Muslims are terrorists, that still outnumbers every standing army in the world combined!

We don't want to turn this into a war on Islam, that would in fact be World War III. It simply isn't necessary. The moderate elements of the Islamic population have begun to get tired of the destruction the extremists are causing, and are beginning to take action against it.

If you don't believe me, just go talk to some of the troops who have returned from Iraq within the past six months..

re: #282 Aussie Infidel

Your......'I appreciate your disagreement, however I do not appreciate the condescending tone of your reply.'

So sunshine we get right down to it mate. The ad hominem attach right up front! Are you sure that you are not a troll in a lizard skin?

Your
.....'I had Muslim classmates when I was in college, worked with Muslims in my former civilian career,'..... blah..blah,,,blah smacks of the oldie but goodie.... "some of my best friends are (add the rest yourself mate!)" bullshit that substitutes a reasoned debate on the issues. That said are you scared of debating the issues?

Like you I have a LOT of experience in the Middle East and as you say folks are folks. Hell even seriel killers still go to the bathroom, watch TV,eat and shop at the local 711! That doesn't make them any less serial killers in their pathology.

Your
.....'However to paint this as the whole of Islam only insults and offends millions of peaceful Muslims who just want to get on with their lives. '....
Perhaps it was me mate but i thought that i offered a solution to this problem. Offer them protection from their rejection of their fascist religio/cultural perspective.

hen you attempt an oldie but goodie by trying to smear me with the beush that the west is responsible for the hate within the philosophy that is Islam. With...
....."Statements such as yours only give support to those who preach that the West is out to destroy all of Islam."

That won't wash mate. .... Are you SURE that you're not a troll?

Yet another lod and tried liberal debating trick the call the arms ploy!
Your...
....'You add fuel to the fire of terrorism that I and all other servicemembers are fighting.'...

Like you I happen to be a serviceman but unlike you I an not a liberal.

Finally you attempt to use the tried and true ... moral equivalence gambit'

...'Blah...blah...blah... elements in the Koran ...blah blah blah ...also elements in the Bible.... Blah Blah blah.......as a Christian, I am aware of the elements of my Holy Book which are not compatible with modern Christian philosophy blah...blah..blah

and finally you as insult to injury with this piece of garbage.... 'understand the context in which they were written...... blah blah.blah

Yup folks it's the olde ...Context argument taken dug up and popped back into the microwave and displayed in all its glory AGAIN!.
Are you REALLY sure that you aren't a troll mate?

Your ....' if they were all committed to bringing the world under sharia law, they'd have done it by now'...... Hey 1.7 billion in 1400 years is not bad going!
Imagine what they can do if they put nukes in context as you seem to want to do. Imagine how that'll rock your boat mate?

Then we get to the ...putting words in someone elses mouth ... the strawman debating tactic.
Your....'If you claim that even 10% of Muslims are terrorists,'.....
Awww you didn't think i'd let you get away with that obvious tactic did you sunshine?

It waddles like a troll, it quacks like a troll, it argues like a troll..... You REALLY REALLY sure that you're not a TROLL mate?
