A Question for Fox News - Update: Beckel Calls Right Wing Bloggers 'Crackers'

Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 5:22:30 pm PDT

I just fired up Eye TV to see what’s going on, and there’s Bob Beckel on Fox News.

Something is seriously wrong at Fox. Beckel was one of the main promoters of the Michelle Obama “whitey tape” hoax. That doesn’t qualify him to be dismissed? Why is this proven liar and shameless fraud still on the air?

I’m starting to get as irritated at Fox News as your average World Can’t Wait moonbat.

OK, maybe not quite that irritated. But this is ridiculous.

Let’s play a game. Since Fox also keeps putting the grizzled old Jew-hater Pat Buchanan in front of the cameras, what would be a good name for a show featuring Buchanan and Beckel? Now that would be must-see TV - for Neanderthals.

UPDATE at 6/15/08 5:37:50 pm:

My jaw has just dropped.

Beckel had the nerve to blame the “whitey tape” smear on right wing bloggers. Wow. A new apex of hypocrisy has now been achieved.

UPDATE at 6/15/08 5:42:17 pm:

Beckel actually claimed that he tried to debunk the rumor. Here’s the video clip, courtesy of Hot Air. Sleazy, sleazy, sleazy: Disgrace: Beckel blames right-wing “crackers” for his own Michelle Obama smearmongering.

UPDATE at 6/15/08 6:08:10 pm:

A quote from Beckel tonight (hat tip: Gilly):

Let these crackers and right wingers prove it before they put it [on the internet] ...

UPDATE at 6/15/08 6:41:15 pm:

Here’s the clip:

UPDATE at 6/16/08 1:42:30 pm:

Some people seem to think I made a mistake when I wrote above that Pat Buchanan is on Fox News frequently.

Uh, no. No mistake. Pat Buchanan’s Presidential Predictions - Bill O’Reilly | The O’Reilly Factor

They can't sack Bob. We're in the middle of a depression.

What is happening to Fox? Really thought they were so much better than others. Now I just don't know anymore.

It's dog eat dog in the media business -- while Fox's share is the best, it's still a diminishing market as there are so many alternatives now. They've gone full tabloid mode and don't seem to care anymore.

I hate the pukes at MSNBC, but 9 times out of 10 if you turn them on they are talking (misguided) politics when Fox is talking about runaway bride and missing blonde coed.

Beckel ought to go over to MSNBC. He will fit right in and he can talk politics

I think they were shifting some shows around during the priamry season, and they stuck Bill Hemmer and what's her smile in there, and ratings improved over John Gibson. Pity. I liked his show - it wqs better before they stuck him with that girl tho IMO.

ED Hill is getting a different slot I think.

Thanks, Mama! Pity about Gibson - I liked his show too. He also wrote a book called "Hating America" - it was pretty good. A fast read.

We have to face the fact that the MSM is just the MSM. You can't tame a jackal and expect not to get eaten when your back is turned. It doesn't matter how grooming you do to it. Fox has been pumping up McCain all during the campaign. Rupert now states that Obama is inevitable as president. All that's going on now is that Fox is now discrediting core conservatism by coddling RHINOS.

Invest in firearms and ammunition and practice, practice, practice.

This country and this world are going to make the insanity of today, look like the good ole days, very soon.

I'm afraid so.

It's not like the insanity of the 60's and the early 70's, followed by the Carter years. The vast majority of Americans were still normal and patriotic and understood basic American principles then, and there were still lots of members of The Greatest Generation around to keep us on an even keel. We elected Reagan and he pulled us back from the brink.

I'm afraid there's no strong steadying adult influence anymore. Even many of those who claim to be "conservative" really aren't. Conservative means sensible, and there's no sense in many of Fox's recent decisions. Or in the way many Republicans in general act, for that matter.

To clarify, I feel like I have honest disagreements with the above two, but could never have an "honest" disagreement with, say, Leahy, Schumer, Dean or McCauliffe, because there's nothing remotely "honest" about them. I haven't seen Beckel in a while, but this video doesn't necessarily change my opinion- he says he is "scared" about the tape and that it might be "big"- perhaps he doesn't know the original "purported source"- then again if he does, and he's lying about it, that would be serious points against him.

Bob Beckel is as dishonest as they come. If his lips are moving he's lying. He's been involved in just about ever shifty maneuver the Clintons ever pulled.

In any case, I don't watch Fox anymore. I kept missing Brit Hume and since he was the only person on the channel I wanted to see (I just don't watch Sunday news, sorry Chris Wallace), I just blew the whole thing off.

I have a warm place in my heart for them for putting Charles Krauthamer on TV though. His commentary is wonderful.

That means looking at reality as it really is. That's not what journalists are trained for in this age. Reality is to be rewritten to give the appearance of legitimacy to Socialist cause. And if a factual statement is actually made it is for the purpose of buttressing a bigger lie.

Actually, I kind of miss the big-nosed princess, a cute young woman with a wild streak who raised some money for charities and had a penchant for embarrassing the british monarchy. What was Russert? A lackey, a fraud, a dim-bulb lazy establishment gatekeeper, paid five million dollars a year to delude us into thinking that jibber-jabber over campaigns was real journalism, at a time when actual journalists are getting laid off left and right.

See Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. We fought the North Koreans and then the Chinese to a standstill in Korea. We fought the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong for thirteen years, and even though we sold out our South Vietnamese ally in the end, the NV never had much success trying to spread their revolution throughout Southeast Asia. And after Americans punished themselves with Carter, they came to their senses and elected Reagan. They stuck with him through difficult transitions in our economy (which led directly to the prosperity of the 90's) and stood firmly with him as he confronted the Soviets. Those were very scary times...I remember how frightened I was when we put Pershing II missiles in Europe to counter the Soviet short-range missiles, how close the unthinkable seemed in those days. But Americans swallowed their fear and let their President do what was right.

No, the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice did not die right after WW2.

What is the origin of the 'cracker' slur?

Check wiki: it goes back to the Old English "craic", and was used by the English to describe Scots-Irish settlers in the colonies.

re: #303 mama winger

Found this:

The true history of the name, however, is more involved and shows a shift in application over time. Linguists now believe the original root to be the Gaelic craic, still used in Ireland (anglicized in spelling to crack) for "entertaining conversation." The English meaning of cracker as a braggart appears by Elizabethan times, as, for example, in Shakespeare's King John (1595): "What cracker is this . . . that deafes our ears / With this abundance of superfluous breath?"
By the 1760s the English, both at home and in colonial America, were applying the term to Scots-Irish settlers of the southern backcountry,
as in this passage from a letter to the earl of Dartmouth: "I should explain to your Lordship what is meant by Crackers; a name they have got from being great boasters; they are a lawless set of rascalls on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas, and Georgia, who often change their places of abode." The word then came to be associated with the cowboys of Georgia and Florida, many of them descendants of those early frontiersmen.

In the vernacular of the South, here's the hierarchy as I knew it:

1. Southern ladies and gentleman--good manners, good breeding

2. good ol' boys/girls: harder drinking and talking, but good hearted

3. red necks: more blue collar, less grammatical, more parochial, more inclined to chew tobacco

4. poor white/Cracker--less money, less education, but good people

5. white trash--need I say more? These are the people who were tacky and bigoted.

I resent his insinuation on behalf of all the fine Crackers I've known.

re: #303 mama winger

What is the origin of the 'cracker' slur?

Cracker

One theory claims that the term dates back to slavery in the antebellum South. The popular folk etymology is based on slaver foremen using bullwhips to discipline African and African American slaves, and the sound the whip being described as 'cracking the whip'. The foremen who cracked these whips were thus known as 'crackers'. [1][2][3]

According to the 1911 edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, "cracker" is a term of contempt for the "poor" or "mean whites," particularly of Georgia and Florida. Britannica notes that the term dates back to the American Revolution, and is derived from the "cracked corn" which formed their staple food. [2] (Note that in British English "mean" is also a term for poverty, with no malice implied.)

Historically the word suggested poor, white rural Americans with little formal education. Historians point out the term originally referred to the strong Scots-Irish of the back country (as opposed to the English of the seacoast). Thus a sociologist reported in 1926: "As the plantations expanded these freed men (formerly bond servants) were pushed further and further back upon the more and more sterile soil. They became 'pinelanders', 'corn-crackers', or 'crackers'." [

No one knows for sure, but I think it's from the middle English use of the word as applied to conversation, which became a pejorative term applied to people who brag or talk a lot. The word was applied as a pejorative to Scots-Irish people in the South.

There are other theories.

Myth.
It was NEVER used to refer to the slave-holding (rich) class.
The derivation is from "craic" and goes back to the Middle Ages. (See posts above for possible colonial uses here.)

Cracker Culture: Celtic Ways in the Old South, by Grady McWhiney
Crackers
Among African Americans cracker became a contemptuous term for a white southerner; among some southern whites it has become a label of ethnic and regional pride, boosted by the election of south Georgian Jimmy Carter to the presidency in 1976. This led to the coining of the word crackertude as a not entirely serious answer to negritude.

Anyway, I went to a Memorial Day celebration in Kansas City, in which the KC Symphony played patriotic music and field artillery pieces were fired on the steps of the Liberty Memorial. There were thousands of people there of all races and colors, and I even saw several Muslims. Veterans and current servicemen and women were cheered, and when a WWI veteran was introduced, the applause went on for something like five minutes. I even saw a young black kid in a bandana, tank top and baggy pants clapping for this old white guy.

I'm not so sure patriotism is dead yet. Perhaps people need to catch a glimpse of what awaits us if we don't pull together.

434 capitalistincharge  Sun, Jun 15, 2008 6:45:45pm

Regardless of the wiki definition of "cracker", what matters is the context in which Beckel used it. It was clearly meant as a slur. I have used the term used in the past and it was always meant as a derogatory name for useless white folks. Now, I should think that Fox will take action against that bloviating Beckel and soothe whitey's nationwide. I mean "Cracker" or "Napy Headed HO's" seem to fall into the same catagory. Doncha think?

Of course Beckel was promoting it. He is a Hillary shill. he actually wants us to believe that the former Goldwater Girl was slimed. Hillary slimed herself in 1974 when she believed that Pres. Richard M. Nixon was NOT entitled to legal counsel as Impeachment was like "getting fired" I dis- agreed with it at the time - I remember the time and was in Law School with Peter Rodino's Son. I make NO BONES about it - I was a Nixon Hater at the time - No apologies - in 1973/4 among people of my education and beliefs - that was NORMAL.

What you guys are saying is that there was already a negative racial connotation on the word before it was associated with the dirty job that those on the Florida frontier were doing. I would love to see something better than both the evidence that I have and the evidence that you have. But, from what I've learned about the history of those original crackers, many of them did not fall under that lineage. I'm not saying my sources are wrong, I'm just saying there's enough doubt on all sides of this argument.

What you guys are saying is that there was already a negative racial connotation on the word before it was associated with the dirty job that those on the Florida frontier were doing. I would love to see something better than both the evidence that I have and the evidence that you have. It just doesn't sound likely to me that it was an ethnic slur before there was a reason for it.

Originally a class slur, not ethnic.

I could not help but notice how those who were eulogizing him could not count on the same wonderful, affectionate rememberances should they suddenly pass tomorrow. He is not supporting Obama.

This is what Murdoch said:

Murdoch’s not-quite-but-almost endorsement of Barack Obama for president. The founder — and defender — of Fox News said he expected Obama to win in a landslide, citing widespread unhappiness with the current administration and his disenchantment with Republican contender John McCain. Murdoch added that after a long career in the Senate, McCain had been forced to compromise too much and doesn’t stand for much. Murdoch even nonchalantly owned up to influencing the New York Post to back Obama in the New York primary.

During the Q&A, I pressed Murdoch — a new U.S. citizen — on whether he would actually vote for Obama in November. He said he was leaning toward it, but would know in the next six months. When I asked if I could call him, he said yes, then joked I could probably just figure it out from reading the Post.

No media bias here. The top link on Drudge right now is an AP story about the President's last few days in Europe. Of course they have to throw in a few insults:

"He hasn't gotten going on a couple of days until 10 or 11 in the morning."

Translation: Lazy dolt.

"...he skipped Berlin in favor of a helicopter straight to the German countryside from the airport, motored through Rome without stopping at the Colosseum and stayed in Paris without visiting the Louvre or Notre Dame just blocks away."

Translation: Intellectually incurious.

"And there's another benefit of traveling as president. Bush doesn't have to deal with the weak U.S. dollar that makes travel abroad so expensive for average Americans.
When on business, Bush has little need to spend his own money except when buying gifts."

Translation: He destroyed the US economy, but no worries since he's rich.

Only a few more months of this crap, then we'll start to hear about the worst ex-president I guess.

He was the TV Media point man for this vicious rumor started out of nothing by Larry 'CIA' Johnson, a Clinton appointee and leftwing insider blogger. I, and many others defended Michelle Obama in these pages, saying that neither her unbringing , education or present employment would lend anyone to believe that she would act in such a fashion as suggested by Beckel. I'm pretty sure that this "Renewable Petroleum™" biofuels process will produce some wastes as well, most notably the sludge of dead organisms in the bioreactor, but if the plants are sited correctly, even that waste can be burned and used for producing electricity.

Another interpretation is that "crack corn" came from the old English term "crack," meaning gossip, and that "cracking corn" was a traditional Shenandoah expression for "sitting around chitchatting."[10] Yet another, and possibly the most popular, is that the chorus refers to an overseer who, without the master, has only his bullwhip to keep the slaves in line. Most etymologists support the first interpretation, as the term "cracker" appears to predate "corncracking", and "whipcracker" has no historical backing.[11] This suggests that the chorus means the slaves are making whiskey and celebrating.

(Sorry Miley, having to listen to Pat prattle on for an hour would probably be the equivalent of child abuse).

re: #638 joecitizen

now there's a linguistics question for ya...origin of 'red herring'?

The term "red herring" originates from the tradition whereby young hunting dogs in Britain were trained to follow a scent with the use of a "red" (salted and smoked) herring (see kipper). This pungent fish would be dragged across a trail until the puppy learned to follow the scent. Later, when the dog was being trained to follow the faint odor of a fox or a badger, the trainer would drag a red herring (which has a much stronger odor) across the animal's trail at right angles. The dog would eventually learn to follow the original scent rather than the stronger scent.

I like how he refers to Obama as a "great man"... I guess they've recently lowered the standards for greatness. I remember when you had to have actually done something to be considered great. I guess that's my oppressive hegemonic white privilege coming out again.

From the corner at national review, 6/12:

"Just what's he done? I mean, what's he done?"
— Congressman Bobby Rush, in a debate with then state legislator Barack Obama, when both men were competing for the Democratic primary for Rush's seat in 2000. Rush won the primary, 61 percent to 30 percent.

In other words, the voters in Chicago concurred with Rush that Obama was not experienced enough or accomplished enough to be their Congressman in 2000. Seven and a half years later, we're told he's ready to be commander-in-chief.

Now, of course, he's become a great man.

There was a certain class to the older films. I particularly like the Marx Bros movies because of their way of disguising the innuendo. The sight gags were great, too.

And I'm a sucker for a running gag.

BTW, Discovery Channel's When We Left Earth is fantastic.

they are so ignorant of the fundamental principles on which America was built, and so arrogant in their ignorance, so convinced of their righteousness that there is no persuading them that they are supporting policies and candidates such as Obama that are completely against their, and our, best interests.

Voices need to be raised. And by that I mean...
If your neighbors house is on fire, would you politely knock on their door , and in a quiet, almost passive tone, inform them of their danger? Or, would you react differently?
The problem is 50% of Americans don't know, and PC has taken the role of Carbon Monoxide poisoning slowly putting folks to sleep, only to finally die. All I can do is tell them what I know, and sometimes I gotta yell to make myself understood!
I will say, that those who are willing to listen have come here to read, and I did get a thank you from one, so...

Around here, it is Volkswagens and Volvo's, usually with Vermont plates, and they still have "Kerry/Edwards" stickers on them in addition to "Impeach Bush". I was on a job in Provincetown last year,(Massachusetts Moonbat HQ) sitting in a beach parking lot, after midnight, waiting for my clients to call for the limo. One of the cars parked overnight there had an "F Bush" bumper sticker on it. After a couple of hours, I could not take looking at it any longer, so, I got out my trusty Swiss Army Knife, and scored the sticker down the middle. Left just "Bush". Always wondered if they lost their moonbat membership when everyone saw it the next day.
(I did no damage to the car.)

No, sorry, I'm not.

Just east of Lancaster.

It so funny though. I am not a pretty boy at all. I use to power lift competitively, so I am big, but not a bodybuilder type.

Especially during the time in the military, I would go out with guys to a club, (many had the tans with washboard abs) and I could always, always have a couple of young ladies dancing, and talking.

It floored them. They could not understand, how they, the beautiful people were striking out, and the bouncer has 2 of them dancing with him.

They never understood.

re: #842 Noam Sayin'

Silly Noam.

Jobling moderates to keep the stormfronters from crashing his little party.

===

What is a "race realist" aka a "racialist?"

It's the part of the White Nationalist "movement" that has come to the belated conclusion that maybe hating Jews and Asians isn't such a good thing after all. Supposed intellectuals of the movement like Jobling, his former boss Jared Taylor, and Lawrence Auster (another Taylor phone tree buddy) who have been trying for over a decade to put a Jew friendly facade over the old school skinhead stormtrooper racism of David Duke, Don Black, and Alex Linder.

Although Duke, Black, and Linder are obviously less then amused by the whole concept, (Jews are White people? Horrors! Asians are smarter than White people? Blasphemy!), that hasn't prevented Blacks storm front website from promoting Taylor and Austers works of race hate.

Thus we find the suit and tie racist defender of Vlaams Blok, Lawrence Auster, squealing about libel and lawyers even as his books are being promoted on stormfront and his words quoted by David Duke.

Yes, Ron Paul has a role to play in this hate theater. So does Pat Buchanan. And so does Paul Belien.

The saddest part is that they have managed to dupe a handful of Jews into believing them. Including some bloggers who were at one time or another trusted friends and even Lizards of LGF.

===

Now then, does anybody have any further questions as to why we went after Vlaams Blok and Ron Paul, exposing them for who and what they really are and always were?

===

Larry,

Sam Dickson might be the only lawyer who won't laugh in your face before he takes your money. But Fred Phelps family of lawyers might have time for you, now that they need money.

See you in the Discovery Phase.

That's how that FNC Global Warming fiasco got going a few years ago.

876 Dotcoman  Sun, Jun 15, 2008 11:08:58pm

I just heard Bob Beckel tonight on the John Cunningham radio show, whining up a storm, how his daddy beat him as a child.

I also recall that I've also heard him complain on FOX a time or two, about being beat up by an now ex-wife.

Typical Liberal, always gotta putting those I'm a victim too creds out there.

Apparently there was ample good reason for the beatings. Too bad they never took hold, and learned him something, for all their effort.

Hmmmm, "cracka" and right-wingers"? i am not quite sure which catagory I fit into. I cannot be a lib because I believe that you should make it through life on your own merits and hard word. Yet, I take offense at being called a cracka, because , really admit it, biracial children are the most beautiful kids on earth. It is all in the way someone wants to direct them. I have a 10 year old biracial nephew. I would personally beat the shit out of anyone that told him he was being "held back" by the color of his skin. I have asked him....Are you stupid? Have you been diagnoses retarded? Is there anything that is holding you back from taking advantage of a free education? NO...that was his answer to all questions. This boy will, with the Grace of God, remember what Aunt Tina explained to him: You are only a loser....if you choose to be. There are NUMEROUS opportunities out there for you....use them!

The only people that bring race into a situation are the ones claiming....."don't mention race!" Stupid bastards abound! God protect my neice and nephew!

878 Dotcoman  Sun, Jun 15, 2008 11:14:50pm

Bob Beckel also claims to be the guy who invented the Super Delegate scheme to screw the Democrat Party Voters and that he did it to prevent Tedd Kennedy from pulling some crap again, back in 1983?

He bragged about it on FNC this spring.

879 bill-tb  Mon, Jun 16, 2008 5:23:08am

[Link: michellemalkin.com...]

There's something weird going on here. I think if a guy went back and looked at Beckel footage at FNC a few months back you'd see him making some cryptic messages about this. I seem to remember him saying something on one of their 11AM shows back when they were trying a sort of round table discussion format. Same time I saw him go OT with the thing about being beaten by his then wife.

He was also on the Hannity Radio program early on talking about somebody having something on Michelle.

I'm kind of wondering if this whole thing isn't apart of Soro's 40 Million attack on McCain filtering down into an attack on
RUSH, FOX, Drudge, Hannity, Charles &LGF, Malkin or anyone else, that might be made to fall for the story.

Notice how they are all Globing on to Rush Limbaugh.
