It started out being used in the South and I live in one of the whitest states in the country, so I just never heard it anywhere except on blogs with a national readership. And I do travel a lot, but never found myself in a situation where I'd hear that kind of thing, I guess.

I actually had to ask that a post containing the word be taken down from a post on TripAdvisor where it had sat for over a year. (They did, very quickly, kudos to TripAdvisor.) I don't know if that is apathy or, if people who use travel websites are likewise racist or simply don't realize what it means. Like we're kinda clueless about "baby momma" and things like that.

That being said, people appearing on national news shows almost certainly know what it means and it is inexcusable to let it slide.

The Hannity show isn't much use when Hannity is talking, actually, just background noise, but he has a steady stream of guests, and for the most part he lets them talk.

Me. People say all kinds of things when they think they are among friends. Add to that the delusion prevalent on the left that they are automatically above reproach, and that only whites can be racist, and you've got a situation where someone as angry as Michelle Obama could easily pop off. Few things loosen the tongue and tap the hidden recesses of the brain more than righteous indignation.

I still say its 50 - 50 that a tape exists... maybe not the speculated Mrs. Farrakahn/Trinity tape, but something similar and damaging. Just look at the way Trinity church has dealt with Barack's leaving... they blame politics instead of themselves. There hasn't been a shred of soul-searching about the rants of Reverend Wright or the divisive nature of his teachings. In an atmosphere like that all sorts of things get said, and some of it gets recorded.

Isn't it all possible that the "whitey tape" was a last desperate attempt by a Clinton operative to salvage her nomination. The
spin now by her camp is "she didn't lose the nomination, the darn media
is SEXIST". It's all part of the same campaign that spread the rumor that Obama was Muslim, "as far as she knew".

Hey Charles - sorta drive by post here - but maybe You should let Michelle Malkin know about us - she's been on Fox substituting for O'Reilly, and at other times and AT LEAST she ought to give Fox hell for that Bob Beckel’s scurrulous "reporting" or "Commenting" cause LGF gets it correct - always HAD it correct and she ought to know that (I don't know if she reads us or not and don't even know if she has us on her blogroll - you can see I don't get over there much, since for some reason she didn't approve my application to register there).

I think Yma has cracker as welsh slang for something really good.

He should never have used it, and as he did someone should have picked him up on it.

That I couldn't tell you. Fox does seem to "break" an awful lot of stories shortly after they've appeared on LGF. Hard to believe that it's just a coincidence.

Oh yeah David, I've thought for quite a while now that SOMEONE at Fox reads LGF daily. Charles breaks stories or investigates the "sound bite" stories of the MSM and FOX comes on over, reads about it and whammo - there's something on Fox about it! LOL!
I'm also reasonably sure that Rueters and other news organizations read LFG quite frequently.

These are troubling developments. An Obamaton barrage of whine, first the supposed whitey tape,the Obama smears site, the "cousin" problem, what next to blame on conservatives? Fast and vicious seems to be the order coming from the Obama camp.

Bobbie Beckel is such a loud, overbearing, obnxious jerk I can not understand why people even use him on TV to represent the Dems viewpoint. The minute he starts talking his bias trash I tune him out as I am sure many others do as well.

Someone said on another thread that he and his wife recently divorced. I wonder what she will do with his trunk full of suspenders.

Even if there was a tape of Mrs. 'Amazing Barry' referring to whites as 'whitey', 'cracker', or 'peckerwood'.......it wouldn't make a darn difference. The media would give it scant attention.

Whats really sad is that this story could be passed off as true because of Michelle's previous statements.

I tried to put the facts about the origin of the smear on the NYT's Caucus blog, but it got "moderated" into oblivion. I guess it didn't fit the narrative.

The person who really needs to know this is a smear against 'conservative' blogs is McCain. He's big on jumping into the fray and scolding conservatives and I could so easily see him doing this. He's on such thin ice anyway and how is anyone on his campaign of missteps going to find out the true facts without them being shoved in his face?

This is so true of McCain, he actually believed that a Koran could fit down a toilet, he natural tendency is to accept the complaints of the Left without researching the legitimacy of those complaints; he will no doubt do the same on this issue.
