IPT: Bedier Reaches a New Low

Wed, Jun 18, 2008 at 8:01:01 am PDT

Former CAIR official (and continuing radical Islamic shill) Ahmed Bedier continues to defend the indefensible, and the Investigative Project calls him out: Bedier Reaches New Low on USF Plea.

On June 13th, Egyptian national and former University of South Florida graduate student Ahmed Mohamed agreed to plead guilty to terrorism charges and is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Mohamed, along with fellow student Youssef Megahed, was stopped by police in South Carolina last August. Police found in their possession explosives and a laptop which hosted an instructional video for terrorists. An analysis of the laptop shows that the 12-minute video, which showed how to use remote control toys to detonate explosives, had been uploaded to YouTube in July 2007 and viewed hundreds of times.

Then CAIR-Tampa spokesman Ahmed Bedier defended Mohamed and Megahed:

Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights organization for Muslims, said family members have told him they think the materials were leftover fireworks Megahed kept in his trunk since July 4.

“Both of them are really naïve kids,” Bedier said.

Lest you think news of Mohamed’s guilty plea would make Bedier reticent about his public apologia on the part of an accused (and now, a soon-to-be convicted) terrorist, the former CAIR denizen instead chose to double down and turn this case of a successful arrest and prosecution of a terror suspect into another “Islamophobic” incident.

On his blog, Bedier writes:

Today former USF graduate student Ahmed Mohamed chose to cut a plea to one count of material support, which carries of a maximum of 15 years in prison, rather than risk spending the REMAINDER OF HIS LIFE behind bars if convicted.
In other words, according to Bedier, Mohamed did not plead guilty because he is guilty (as Mohamed himself asserts on page 7 of his plea agreement), but rather only because he doesn’t want to chance a life sentence.

Next, Bedier directs his readers to quotes he gave the local Tampa-area newspapers. First, the Tampa Tribune:

Local Muslim activist Ahmed Bedier, who has spoken in support of Megahed, stressed that he doesn’t know Mohamed or the Mohamed family. He said the video, as described in court documents, was “unacceptable.” (emphasis Bedier’s)

He said the case is “a reminder to all Muslim youth out there, especially young males, that they have to be very careful about their actions and what they say. Even if they don’t think they’re doing some kind of criminal act, it might be perceived by law enforcement ... that you’re promoting something illegal. That can have some very bad consequences.” Mohamed, Bedier said, “was sent here on a scholarship to do a doctorate in engineering and not to make videos, and now he’s going to pay the price for that.”

So, according to Bedier, Mohamed’s actions are not illegal, they are only “unacceptable.” And he should have just been more careful about what he “said.” And what did he say? After instructing his audience on how to detonate the explosives, Mohamed states (see page 10 of the plea deal):
Instead of brethren going to, to carry out martyrdom operations, no, may God Bless him, he can use the explosion tools from a distance and preserve his life, God willing, the blessed and exalted, for the real battles, unless he was forced to do so.

I recently asked rhetorically in another post what CAIR would say about this. Now we know.

Revealing on more than one level, isn't it?

Typical weasel language from a shill for an admitted felon. Any shill. What makes it worse is that Bedier has to ignore that he claimed that these two were innocent and were simply carrying around "fireworks" when arrested near Goose Creek.

So, he walks back from the innocent part to saying that he cut a deal to avoid life in prison should he be convicted after a trial finding him guilty.

That is the option that many defendants face - a harsh sentence at trial and sentencing, or a lighter one via a plea deal. Mohamed had to allocute to his crimes - admitting his guilt. Again, that's part of the process.

Bedier seems to think that this is unusual?

4 Vergeltung  6/18/08 8:07:05 am reply quote 0

I remember when this story broke, it was all seemingly less serious than it has now turned out to be. I recall many a laugh over the one def's name, "Megahed".

I guess Megahed is taking it all the way to trial then?

They can find out what Obama ate for lunch in the 3rd grade, or how many bowel movements John McCain had last year, but they are missing some facts that should discredit CAIR's ability to have ANY say in any matter.

The ONLY journalists that seem to do even a cursory check on the background and politics of "CAIR" are right here on the web, and that's not only upsetting- it's scary.

Lets take up a collection and use the money to research all the ownership of real estate by the Congress critters and unSenators nation wide.

Then use a map and show "we the people" how much they own,
were it is, the appraised values, where the loans came from, ect.

Then find some way to check out the relationships between the
"earmarks" they allow one another and votes on other matters.

the company

the local appraisal offices will have the values

some of them will have the property in trusts or in Corps but
looks to me like we could track them down.

re: #70 OldLineTexan

I have a Polish Model 44, used to have a Finnish 91 (rebuilt on an Imperial Russian hex receiver), and I also have a Soviet SKS which is similar looking, at least from that end. ;)

MNs are like potato chips. You can't stop at just one. Fin 91, droooool. Soviet SKS, very nice. You are right they do look similar from that end. Had a chinese SKS way back when they cost $79. What a POS. Should have bought a russian one.

TFK, I feel clueless. Haven't heard a thing about any of those incidents here in AZ. Well, the feds can follow me or check me out if they want. They'll just be more bored than usual on a stakeout.

But you don't need either when the American Media will cover up for you.

I saw Ahmed last afternoon on Laura Ingraham's new Fox show, Just in, and I was amazed that Laura went ahead and called CAIR a civil rights group when she introduced him, as opposed to calling CAIR what it is, an unindicted co-conspirator in the HLF trial. I thought she knew better!

Probably has a rule book if she wants to keep her new Fox show.

Fox's new part owner, Prince Ahma Big Dillweed (or something like that) seems to be making some CHANGEs at Fox; lately they seem past any HOPE of recovering.

Darn internet filter! Work blocks websites involving "weapons".

Well, when you get a machine that's away from the filters, ya gotta check it out. At work I had a lot of guys rolling in the aisles and the boss came over to check it out and said, "Right on!".

"Wait for flash!"... heh.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian air force planes dropped a 25-kg (55-lb) sack of cement on a suburban Moscow home last week while seeding clouds to prevent rain from spoiling a holiday, Russian media said on Tuesday.

OT,

Hussein Obama Disses Mohammedans:

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama's rally in Detroit Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women's headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The campaign has apologized to the women, all Obama supporters who said they felt betrayed by their treatment at the rally.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. That's what happens when you implicitly support terrorists and America's enemies. And that goes for both Obama and the Mohammedans.

Along with Michelle's placecard seating to fluff up the appearance of mixed-race attendance at a rally earlier in the campaign, this incident shows that Obama is (rightly) nervous about letting people see where his real base is.
