While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama’s event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan’s correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, “Get me more white people, we need more white people.” To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, “We’re moving you, sorry. It’s going to look so pretty, though.”
“I didn’t know they would say, ‘We need a white person here,’ ” said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. “I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn’t know it would be so outright.”
I feel sorry for the women. You put in all that effort for somebody you think is a good guy and then you realize you've been duped. Hopefully the voters will learn the same lesson earlier rather than later.
I can certainly understand why the Obamyites don't want obvious Muslims in their picture, too much truth too soon. They could do the same good for Obamy's campaign as a photo of "The Radical Lesbians for Richards" did on Ann Richard's victory night photo in Texas.
His excuse: If it wasn't for racist xenophobic Republicans I wouldn't have to pander to them by not being seeing with women wearing headscarves as I try to move to the middle.
Damn Charles - beat me to it - just finished commenting on the last thread, and here you go posting already.
/shakes head.
So, let me repeat what I said in the prior thread:
I actually feel sorry for those two women who were shuffled off to a place where they could not be photographed. They were betrayed by a campaign who wants their support, but can't do so openly because it would alienate another group of voters it seeks - the Jewish vote. You can't get both, even though Obama is flip flopping his way through the attempt.
His excuse: If it wasn't for racist xenophobic Republicans I wouldn't have to pander to them by not being seeingseen with women wearing headscarves as I try to move to the middle.
The follow issue here is going to be the non-issue the MSM makes out of this. I imagine it will go nowhere. HOWEVER, we can only imagine if it were McCain who didn't want to be seen with (burqa'd) Muslims.
THose volunters didn't think of that rule all by their lonesome. THey were told waht to look for by someone who has power in the campaign. Nice try Nobama! Maybe next time.
This is the kind of tolerance, diversity, inclusiveness, and unity that we can expect from this particular political party. Backed up by thugs to remove undesirables. yipee....
I have to be honest about this: I sort-of sympathize with the Obama volunteers' situation. If Obama is photographed with a couple of hijabistas behind him, or near him, it will be all over the web, to Obama's detriment.
I don't understand. Is this a defense of women's right to wear the hijab?
Those women do have the right to wear the hijab if that's what they want. The Obama campaign just doesn't want people to make the connection between Muslims support and Obama because that would be bad for Obama's media persona. Someone might get the idea that Muslims support Obama because of where he stands on issues relating to the Middle East.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there Lawhawk....are you trying to insinuate that "The Jews" had anything to do with this choice, &/or Jews are the only people that would be put-off by seeing Muslims with Obama, &/or that Jews would be put-off at all by seeing Muslims with Obama.....
I usually agree with you but your undertones here are actually offensive. I have been on many sites on the web, and there are many people who would consider not voting for (possibly Muslim - or so the claim goes) Obama if he were seen with burqa'd women.
This has nothing to do with "The Jews" or "The Jewish Vote"! It has to do with people from all faiths, that would not want to vote for a POTUS (Muslim or not) that was seen to be too closely tied to indiviiduals that look just like those that are trying to destroy our Country and have attacked us.
I repeat: This has nothing specifically to do with "The Jews" as you insinuate.
This really doesn't shock any of us, does it? I mean ALL Obama is about is appearance. That's all he CAN be about because he's truly not just inexperienced but he's also totally out of touch with anyone who isn't far to the left in this country.
I have to be honest about this: I sort-of sympathize with the Obama volunteers' situation. If Obama is photographed with a couple of hijabistas behind him, or near him, it will be all over the web, to Obama's detriment.
I think we're talking about headscarves on professional women...not a black sack on a woman who's not allowed to leave the house w/o escort. Now, that might raise an eyebrow...
The Democratic White House hopeful [Obama] has scheduled the inaugural meeting Wednesday of what he’s calling his Senior Working Group on National Security. It includes former members of Congress and high-ranking Clinton administration officials.
Among them are three who advised Hillary Rodham Clinton and had served in her husband’s Cabinet — former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Warren Christopher and former Defense Secretary William Perry.
I have to be honest about this: I sort-of sympathize with the Obama volunteers' situation. If Obama is photographed with a couple of hijabistas behind him, or near him, it will be all over the web, to Obama's detriment.
Obama's hypocrisy has painted his campaign into a corner. Anything they do now will be to their detriment.
In a classic case of projection, expect a major speech from Obama pointing his finger at intolerant Republicans in the next few days. Maybe he'll drag his crazy uncle down out of the attic and toss him under the bus this time.
There are many here that believe that the Burqa is a form of oppression on women, and should be banned. (see any burqa thread). Thus if Obama is not FOR the burqa, he must be against it...and thus he is on the same side as many posters here on LGF.
Not insinuating anything about Jews being behind this - the campaign clearly doesn't want to alienate anyone who might vote for Obama, so they engage in all manner of torturous pretzel logic to do so. Making those two women exit stage right so as not to be in camera range fits that.
As if this is going to stop Michigan from voting leftist.
C'mon, y'all, they're only worried about the visual the media will send out for attention-deficited folks.
Actually, this year, they might vote the other way. Obama's spending so much time there right now because he is very afraid he'll lose the state. He's pissed off many Democrats there with his games regarding the convention and the delegates. Let's also not forget the minor implosion of the Dems there. Granholm is showing how ineffective she is at fixing the economy (what she was elected and re-elected to do), and Kwame is indicted. Two of the biggest Dems are in deep shit.
I don't think that can be inferred from this example, though. He may very well be all for the burqa, but his staffers realize it would not be politically expedient for him to be photographed with women in hijabs. Note to Obamaniacs: Not that it matters. At this point, there is nothing that is "politically expedient" for him. His goose was cooked long before Shrillary gave her swan-song non-concession speech.
he knows it will sink his campaign.
so under the bus they go. head scarves and all.
this really shows what a devious manipulative person he is.
the great uniter is hiding his moslem followers because he knows they are a liability.
b.o. is a weak willed cowardly phony.
re: #81 HelloDare Hey there - speak for yourself - I ain't under Obama's bus and I'm not gonna be thrown under there, either.
If any of the folks he's thrown under the bus had any sense of self, or their own dignity (ok, that does leave out Wright, Ayers, Rezco and......uh,
nevermind) they wouldn't have allowed themselves to be thrown under the bus.
If Obama would just stick to what he says he believes in then the burka girls would have been seated behind him. Like his former preacher Jeremiah Wright said about him "he's a politician and he does what politicians do" Reminds me of that old saw "oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive".
I enjoyed some of it (I expected and ignored the political crap).
Though I did tell a friend that the chances that a man can catch a bullet in his nostril are infinately greater than a Palistinian chick being allowed to dress that way if she came from an Islamic terrorist family.
Some very interesting stuff going on at the my.barackobama.com web site today. They're trying to quietly crack down on the crazies, before anyone in the media notices what's been going on there.

I agree that it was a a "controll" issue so that Obam'uh wasn't seen in the same frame as burqa'd women, because of the campaign's belief that Americans are racist and thus would never vote for someone associated with "those dang Muzlims". But you specifically stated that it was a choice between the "The Jewish Vote" and some other vote. It was this that I took issue with.
From my experience, for right or wrong, Jews would probably be more likely to vote for a Muslim POTUS than any other religious groups would be. (excluding Muslims, of course)

If the media hasn't noticed by now they aren't going to. At this point it isn't that they "haven't noticed" it's that they are "actively ignoring".

Yes, I am aware, and probably should have been more specific when describing it. Thank you for the clarification, as you are most likely correct that it was a hijab and not a burqa.
Ugh. Don't bring that topic up. Over the weekend I had to listen to a used-to-be Ron Paul supporter who has now switched to BHO. This guy, I just know, has 'Stormfront' as his home page on his computer. I can't figure it out.

They think that a black man as president will make us "crackers" wake up about African Americans or even start a race war.
F'ing insane those people.
I think it's poetic justice. The Muslim Community has been politically disenfranchising the black community for generations. Do you know how many progressive, black Muslims have been shoved out of political events by the hijabi crowd simply for being black or for not covering up?

I think BHO is where most of the RonPaulians went after they realized their candidate would lose to John McCain.
Is CAIR going to take to the airwaves and make a federal case out of this or will they let it slide because Obama is their guy?
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, they know that he is only doing what he needs to win the campaign - you know, like the whole NAFTA fuddle he caused with Canada.
BHO: Shhhhh...you know I don't mean it, relax. Have some Kool-Aid.
did whoopie really wet herself when michellemabelle was on the viewfromtheleft today? Rush started talking about it then I got a phone call and missed what he said.
No Hijab and United Jewish Jerusalem?...Obama is Zionist infultraitor and verily, one who makes gods out of G-d. Off with his head!
--"Moderate" Islamist
Nothing for Obama's people to worry about here. There's an easy, sure-fire solution. They can just get in touch with CAIR and have CAIR's Photoshop experts add headscarves to some folks in the pictures. Then they can pretend that this never happened at all.
I'm suffering right here with you, brother. "But just wait until you see the next five years! It'll blow you away" ... literally.
Not an insult! I repeat! Not an insult!
Everytime I hear someone use the word "brother" in a sentence like you just did, I hear the voice of Randy "Macho Man" Savage, and other professional wrestlers.
Just had to tell everyone that. My posts are "Mostly Harmless".
Forces loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr have told Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki they won't offer resistance when an expected offensive to take control of Amarah, capital of Maysan province, begins this week, USA Today reported Wednesday.
In a change of strategy, the Iraqi government gave ample warning to Sadr's militia forces they were coming to retake the city, which until recently had been in control of the militants. An Iraqi military official told the newspaper militia commanders decided not to fight and ordered their soldiers to pull improvised explosive devices out of the ground.
I suppose that turbans & prayer hats are out of the question?
If Barry is elected , we will witness him with lots of Rop'ers, Che admirers and flat out racists.
Ya, think that Reverend Wright & cousin Railla might be reahbilitated?

Esperanto was devised by a Jewish physician in Warsaw during the 1880's. But it wasn't (and still isn't) just a made-up language; it served as the embodiment of a cult formed around the ideas of "internationalism, anti-sectarianism and cosmopolitanism," in the words of Soros biographer Michael Kaufman. (p.12)
Esperantists believe that a new world order of harmony and cooperation will be ushered in through the adoption of their made-up, one-world language. They see language as the vehicle that will enable them to re-create the world according to their own specifications.
It's not Obama's blackness I object to. It is his anti-Americanness, his lack of experience, and the generally scary things he says on the National Security front. And taxes. And social issues.
Michelle fist-bumped the entire View panel. Whoopi goes, 'what does that mean?' Whoopi then went on to say that the fist-bump is better than say, a chest-bump.
Michelle is trying to present her 'softer side', but without the tears

It's a shame that argument will be met with a eye rolling "yeah right, you right-wing racist bigot".
It will be very telling whether or not CAIR goes crazy over this discrimination. If it was John McCain that did this, I think we know exactly what would be happened right about now.....

On July 26, 2008, there will be a gathering in San Jose for lizards and bar-flies (Baen's Bar) at my house.
If you'd like to attend, please email me. My nic is lit up. Please do not use the web-site's email, because the little server we are using is not happy with us.

I know George will appreciate receiving warm wishes from loyal supporters on his special
day. If you have not yet had a chance to sign and return your card to the RNC, please take a moment to add your name to the RNC's e-card.
And if you can, please consider commemorating President Bush's 62nd birthday with a gift our entire Party can share. Your secure online gift of $62 or whatever you can afford -- $25, $75, $100, $500 or even $1,000 -- will go a long way toward helping the RNC promote our Party's responsible agenda and electing a Republican president and Congress in November...."

I notice he still speaks English.
Speaking of Star Trek, did anyone see the story that Mr Sulu married his boyfriend yesterday? I used to be such an Trekkie when I was a kid and this kind of thing makes my head hurt.
call Bluebird-- BHussein needs A BIGGER BUS.
(chuck the volunteers AND the Muslim women-- why be picky at this late date?)
"These, uh, uhm, aren't, uh, uh, you know, uhm, the volunteers I knew" Hussein was heard saying as he mumbled in front of a crowd in downtown Deeetroit.
When he's done tossing under the bus everyone that gets in his way, and IF he wins the race for POTUS-- can you imagine what his foreign policy will be like?
"Excuse me Mr. President, the Iraqi's are demanding that you live up to your pre-election promise to remain in Iraq until the country is secure from Iranian invaders."
Yet, as the loonyliberal Winnie the Pooh foreign-policy advisors shake their heads and point to plummeting popularity polls, BHussein calls for yet another fleet busses to accomodate the entire nation of Iraq.
Oh no doubt, it is the left that insists we recognize race at every opportunity. We cannot move past noting race no matter the situation, as if it has some import. Somehow not noting someone's race...is racist, and we therefore must note their race, and confer on them some sort of special status simply because of the color of their skin. This is somehow not racist, as long as it isn't white people being conferred any sort of special status or treatment.
Speaking of Star Trek, did anyone see the story that Mr Sulu married his boyfriend yesterday? I used to be such an Trekkie when I was a kid and this kind of thing makes my head hurt.
No, they got the marriage license. The ceremony is in September.

No, Elizabeth and Michelle had a 'Rodney King' moment, but it was a love-fest amongst the other regulars and Mrs. Obama.
I think Michelle is on a short leash for this appearance and to be honest, she is handling it quite well -- meaning she WILL NOT make news.
Yup, they really need to refine Michelle's image. She is pretty jagged around the edges. Bad news for the Obamas though, there is enough video of Michelle saying really despicable stuff for the 527's to have a field day.

Ugh. Why would you subject yourself to such a thing? I'm not that big a masochist.
On another note, I am completely unsurprised to see the Ronulans switch their allegiances to Obama, to be honest. If their big issue was the war and hating George Bush, they don't differ a whit from Democrats.
I don't know about you, but I can't listen to Elton John and NOT picture him singing love songs to his domestic partner as opposed to a female. I, in my younger more tender years, thought everyone was straight.
Knowing that Mohammed personally killed hundreds, possibly thousands, for example, in one day personally beheading between 600-900 bound and defenseless captive Jews, do you consider Mohammed to be a peaceful man?
In Islam today, slaves and sex slaves are allowed per the Koran. Any comments on this?
In Islam, husbands are allowed to beat their wives, all 4 of them, and their sex slaves. Comments please Obama.
Hope someone at his site sends him here to learn about Islam and Mohammed.

The funny thing is, this type of stuff knocked all the flood and disaster related news to second or third place on the TV networks. Honestly, I don't give two shits about it, but I would think that massive flooding on the Mississippi River and in Iowa affecting thousands upon thousands of people should take precidence over a silly story about gay marriage in a state I couldn't care less about.
Hollywood GIANT Cyd Charisse died yesterday. If you haven't seen this partner of Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly's clip on you-tube, please do: Find the "Broadway Melody" sequence in "Singing in the Rain."
Sorry y'all - got unexpectedly called away for a while.
Has anyone mentioned that Michelle Obama was on The View today and that, according to Bob (who me?) Beckel was "terrific" - she responded to critics of her statment of being ashamed to being an American by saying "No, I'm not ashamed of being an American, where else could I have lived the life I live?".
Isn't that just precious?!

Well, gee--it's clear to anyone who listens that "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is being "spoken" by a kept boy walking out on his sugar daddy. It's not like he was hiding much even way back when.
Well, like I said...I was young and went to Catholic School...I actually had teachers who were nuns.

That's why I checked their website. I was not surprised to see that they had said nothing about it. No Ibrahim Hooper on every network, nothing.
Just Dawud commenting on it on his own blog, and no seething even there.
I love EJ. IMHO, "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is a perfect song.
I agree with you FBV (but he like a lot of entertainers need to heed Laura Ingraham's advice and shut up and sing). "Meal Ticket" is also an excellent song from that album.
I still have the "Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy" LP I bought in 1975. Remember the great artwork and the poster that came with the album?
re: #285 alegrias
Yes but Cindy McCain won't be asked to appear on The View anyway! LOL!
Oh, and Michelle said, in response to a Baba Walter's question that she will have no input into her husband's selection of a running mate. And she said it with a straight face!
I'm telling all y'all, they do get better with experience.
I just don't want a POTUS who has to get his experience doing OJT!
Well, like I said...I was young and went to Catholic School...I actually had teachers who were nuns.
Nuns, huh? I had them too. They had so many pockets in those habits with all kinds of stuff.
I really believe that you could have said, "Sister, I need a tire iron" and she could have reached in there and produced one.

Yes, you'd think that - and it would be true if the Iowa flood victims were anything other than primarily "ordinary white people". You have to remember the progressive media news hierarchy: gays trump OWPs.
re: #284 The Pulchritudinous Patriot
I couldn't stand his singing at Princess Di's funeral, "Goodby English rose" instead of Norma Jean. It was pathetic. In fact, that was a very gay funeral!
The Government Accountability Office on Wednesday backed Boeing’s protest of the awarding of a lucrative contract for refueling tankers to Northrop Grumman and a European partner, saying the Air Force made errors during the process.
The $40 billion tanker program is the Air Force’s No. 1 priority, designed to replace a fleet of aerial refueling tankers — which provide fuel to fighter jets and cargo planes in mid-air — that date back to the Eisenhower era and which are being stressed in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

re: #315 Russkilitlover
Sorry, but I think it was a very celebrity driven funeral and Prince Philip was right on that one. Read Debbie Schlussel's column on that and other celeb funerals.
re: #327 Fat Bastard Vegetarian
True. I can make a list of celebrity couples that did not get along: Lucy and Ethel. Ethel was younger than Lucille Ball and didn't like being pegged as the "fat old neighbor".
Rights are not subject to the will of the people, or a person. That's the whole point of the Constitution.
No I'm not - if the will of the people of the state of California wanted to make gay marriage legal there was a process that they could have utilized through the Constitution.
This is a case of judicial fiat - imposing upon the people values they had rejected twice. They had already made sure there was equal and legal recourse under the law. That wasn't good enough for these judges even though they acknowledged no harm was being done them.
What you are embracing is a oligarchy - rule by Politburo. The few over the many. Our Constitution rejects this.
This past week has really upset me regarding the judges in this country and I don't see a solution before they can cause more harm. It also disturbs me that more people aren't upset by this. I mean, why even have an executive or legislative branch when we have the supremes?
True. I can make a list of celebrity couples that did not get along: Lucy and Ethel. Ethel was younger than Lucille Ball and didn't like being pegged as the "fat old neighbor".
She was also required to be overweight per her contract.
I mean, why even have an executive or legislative branch when we have the supremes?
Supreme Court Justices can be impeached. I don't believe it has ever happened, but when the Supremes themselves rule in an unconstitutional manner thats what should happen.
Now, if that isn't proof of idol worship then I don't know what it. The way I see it, the point of a Kippah is out of respect to G-d, and the point of a religious service is to give respect to G-d. An Obama kippah? Yea I see who your god is.
I have no issue with Gay Marriage itself....but the ramifications it is going to have on society is what concerns me. For example, I do not want my male child to go to pre school, or elementary school, and be asked by his teacher if he is going to grow up to marry a boy or a girl. Or, whereas now the teacher would tell "little Bobby" that "boys marry girls" when Bobby states that he loves his best friend Gary and wants to marry him, in the future the teacher is going to say "that is great, you should marry Gary, he is a great guy, and boys are supposed to love and marry eachother." Lastly, its the instance where there is no longer "Father's Day" or "mother's Day", or where they will be teaching homosexuality to little children as an "option" (to those that would have never considered it in the past), or where the homosexual "option" is advocated and taught.
It's not Obama's blackness I object to. It is his anti-Americanness, his lack of experience, and the generally scary things he says on the National Security front. And taxes. And social issues.
And everything else he stands for.
His race doesn't matter to me at all.
I couldn't agree more..We can be divided about our politics and/or ideas but americans should never be divided over race...
Nuns, huh? I had them too. They had so many pockets in those habits with all kinds of stuff.
I really believe that you could have said, "Sister, I need a tire iron" and she could have reached in there and produced one.
Thank you. I believe that most proponents of Homosexual Marriage are only looking at the immediate, emotionally based aspects of it. Ie: "why shouldn't they have the same rights to love eachother", or "how does their love hurt you", etc.
And on these points they are mostly right. If a 28+ year old individual wishes to marry another concenting adult of the same sex...then GREAT, I wish them the best in their perverse behavior, they are right, its not my business....BUT by making homosexual marriage legal, it will have a ripple effect throughout everything in society. It ISN"T only about the two people in love.

Hi astronmr20!
I was responding to this line:
It's not Obama's blackness I object to..
Thus the comment about race..I've never talked about islam here at lgf. Nor the ID stuff ( boring )
But i imagine some day i will..

Team Obama approaches marketing Obama as a movie star..and they set up every speaking engagement just like a production company structures a movie set and the extras. I have to admit they know what they are doing- too well. It's all so celluloid. And every fool in our nation is falling for all the tinsel.

Would love to see the Obama with his friends at the alternative lifestyle fest in SF. Forgot the name of the gathering.Lots of leather, stilettoes, and folks getting their freak on.
Slightly OT, but I have yet to see an uncropped picture of Obama on his bike ride through Chicago - one that shows what he was pulling behind his bike. I know it was probably just a kiddie trailer, BUT there ARE things such as bike stabilizers for people who cannot ride a bike that hook on that way, and I just wonder why all those pictures were so closely cropped. Wouldn't a nice kiddie trailer, especially with a little tyke in it, be a positive image? Something funny here.
Both Barack and Michelle have made stong first impressions. It may be difficult or impossible to overcome these first impressions. Everytime they try something new or do new seating arrangements it will always bring up the earlier posturing by both of them. Whoever they truely are, they are working as hard as they can to keep that a secret.
Given that decision by the "Human Rights" Panel in London awarding nearly ten thousand dollars for 'hurt feelings' of a muslim job applicant who was denied a job in a hair salon due to her refusal to take off her scarf at work, Obama may be facing a discrimination suit for his callous treatment of these muslim women. More women being thrown under the Obamanation Express. I wonder if the Obamanation will take any more photographs with his Kenyan muslim relatives?
This smells like a typical Muslim/CAIR grievance set up. Get someone to claim discrimination and bring in the CAIR apology police to teach everyone about "true tolerance". Anyone talk to the actual volunteer who was said to have done the dirty deed?

Well, gee--it's clear to anyone who listens that "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is being "spoken" by a kept boy walking out on his sugar daddy. It's not like he was hiding much even way back when.
FWIW, almost all of Elton's lyrics at that time were written by a straight guy named Bernie Taupin. A straight guy with an interesting imagination (I always thought the "Alice" song was a little weird and sad).
