Obama Throws Campaign Finance Promise Under the Bus

Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 8:22:25 am PDT

Barack Obama has decided to break his promise to use the federal public financing if John McCain did the same thing. The BBC sees no evil, and hears no lies, and simply states that Obama “reversed” his promise.

Democrat Barack Obama has said he will not take public financing, allowing him to raise unlimited private funds in his campaign for the US presidency.

His decision means he will forgo more than $80m (£40.5m) that would have been available for him to fight Republican John McCain for the White House. Candidates who accept public money cannot raise funds from private donors. Mr Obama set records raising money for his campaign for the Democratic nomination during the primary contests.

The decision reverses his earlier promise to use the federal public financing system if his Republican rival also did so.

Proponents of an Israeli-Palestinian accord are praising the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas that went into effect this morning. Yet even if the agreement suspends violence temporarily -- though dozens of Hamas rockets struck Israel yesterday -- it represents a historic accomplishment for the jihadist forces most opposed to peace, and defeat for the Palestinians who might still have been Israel's partners.

I seem to remember that John McCain did not want to forego matching money but the commission that was supposed to rule on his financing did not have a quorum and the dhimmies would not appoint a replacement to it (on purpose of course) so John had to skip the Fed money. Barak of course has no such problem now does he?

Rope-a-dope McCain into making an issue out of using public money (which McCain is on record as advocating) then bail out on the deal and out-fundraise the sh*t out of him. BO knows the MSM will give him a pass on this so now he can outspend McCain, and if McCain tries to back out of public funding BO can use his MSM mouthpiece to scream HYPOCRITE at him from now to election day.

Pretty clever ploy...

Then, part of Sympathy was posted, I followed up with some of my lines, and got some additional ones from Occasional Reader.

So here is the result, Sympathy for Obama

Please allow me to introduce myself
Im a man of hope and change
I've been around for few short years
But I'm the object of a new faith.

People think I'm Jesus Christ
Bringing hope and change
Made damn sure that no one
Knows what that change will bring

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my (middle) name
But misleading you
Is the nature of my campaign

I went to Washington
When I saw it was a time for a change
Turned the US socialist
The people screamed in pain

I cut back tanks
with my C-in-C rank
while the jihad raged
and our response, it stank

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my (middle) name, oh yeah
Ah, misleading you
Is the nature of my campaign, oh yeah

I watched with glee
While the Reverend Wright
Damned America and
Put down Jews and Whites

I shouted out,
"who's the next Kennedy?"
and made y'all think
it was truly me

Let me please introduce myself
Im a man of hope and change
And I played all the race cards
And threw all my friends under the bus

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But misleading you
Is the nature of my campaign, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my (middle) name, oh yeah
But misleading you
Is just the nature of my campaign

Just as every pol is a criminal
That the spinners make into saints

To end this tale
Elect me President
And I'll lay your world to waste

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or Ill lay your world to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed (middle) my name, um yeah
But misleading you
Is the nature of my campaign, um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what's my (middle) name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my (middle) name
Tell me voter, what's my (middle) name
I tell you voters, you're to blame

Mr. Obama portrayed the decision to opt out of public financing as one that would limit the influence of special interests in the campaign.

What is it with left wingers and violence?

My Congresswomen, Loretta Sanchez posters up during the last election says she was going to "Fight for Me"

I would be happy if they were fighting terrorists, but when they fight Republicans, they are beating up on my people. Why do they think I would support that?

"Momentum" is just code for which way the media is leaning. . .really.

I don't know that the media is leaning for McCain now, but I can say the second they stop shilling for Obama (if that ever happens), he's toast.

I hope McCain rakes Obama over the coals for this one.

149 R.A.D. Dad  Thu, Jun 19, 2008 12:04:23pm

Wow, so Obama did what I think EVERY candidate should do, he said no to sucking off the taxpayers to try and get elected.

I can't imagine WHY ANY conservative would even think the idea of taxpayer funded campaigns are ok? like we are footing the bill for enough things these days? We need to be ELIMINATING programs that ARE NOT what the government was intended for, getting back to the basics. We need to be CONDEMNING those who celebrate sucking off the government tit because "that makes it fair". Fairly poor, for fairly much everyone, that's what all this non-essential government spending is.

Yeah B.H. Obama went back on his word, big surprise, and big deal. That Johny boy WANTED to go that way, and the crap bill he got passed that screws with campaign financing, well it serves him right if he gets shafted by it. Rule number TWO should be to never TRUST a liberal, but rule NUMBER ONE should be NEVER TO ACT LIKE ONE. He broke both rules. We're screwed, he's screwed, and shame on us for letting it come to this, we should have never been willing to settle for a phony conservative to begin with.

150 Lizard by the Bay  Thu, Jun 19, 2008 12:31:28pm

As much as I'm sure Obama will break every promise he's ever made before this is all over, Charles may be wrong to call him out on this one. Obama promised to use Federal funds only if McCain did also. But according to some, McCain has already refused to take the money, opening the door for Obama to do the same. No dishonesty there.

Now, I can appreciate that there is some confusion, since this BBC report, dated 6/19, says:

Mr McCain has said he is likely to take the public money.

But this article, dated 6/17, seems to indicate that the decision not to take federal monies had alrerady been made by the McCain camp:

Democratic Party officials plan to file a new lawsuit to compel federal regulators to investigate whether Sen. John McCain violated election laws by withdrawing from public financing.

The Democratic National Committee announced Tuesday it will sue next week in U.S. District Court. It will ask the court to order the Federal Election Commission to examine, within 30 days, the legality of McCain's decision to reject $5.8 million in taxpayer funds.

I don't know what the true story is, but it's perhaps too soon to call Obama a promise-breaker here.

151 the_flying_pig  Thu, Jun 19, 2008 2:17:45pm

Obama will throw America under the bus! Mark my words!
